A glorious moment, under the evergreen, a small spot of green grass. No it's the lawn kind.

SJ, That's probably not grass, someone more than likely threw a chunk of Astro-Turf out of the Tardis to just rattle your cage a little. Clown

Buckeye, I won't touch that line about the Beach Bunnies it would definitly get me banned and the coffee pot unplugged permamnently. Blush

Fife, Not til the 11th.

Great day at the museum yesterday, no pileups as Laz would say. But the DCS was being a real pita. Sad

Almost forgot:

Buckeye - Too easy.  It's near the first of the month.  If we all keep working hard, he can try again after 3/1.

LawsonFarms - The Shootout was for Pole Winners, and past winners of the event.  Since Coors is now the official yadayada...poopoo on tradition.  As for watching, I'd rather be there anyday, especially Daytona.

Go 14 7 43 31 44 21 28 and of course...88.

I'll go along with the need for tradition. Thumbs Up

OK on 7, 14, 21, add 11, 18, 20

Dear fifedog:

I'm glad you found my story about the Chief so thorough this morning, however, I would like for you to investigate where he got the $500.00.  I believe you, as the highly trained professional of the CTT Forum fraud unit, should lead the charge.   The hooch is not ready to be sold, so he must be getting the money through Roseyville''s extensive underworld crime families that have settled there recently.

Sincerely,

 Good Mornin All:

Watched a little RFD-TV this morning. Watched a good Train & Locomotive show about the Nickel Plate Road in the late '50's, followed by an FFA Fort Worth Stock Show auction. Champion steer brought $145,000, champion lamb $20,000, champion hog $14,800, champion goat $10,500. Some folks still have money!

My most exasperating plumbing problem was when I replaced the main bath toilet with a "water saver" toilet.......every time we had a large family get together, with 8 grand kids the toilet kept stopping up with toilet paper. I now keep a plunger next to the toilet. Each of them now know how to use it.

fifedog - Is it the Wild Card addition to the NASCAR shootout that you don't like? The digger cam does give a great feel of speed, something you don't get in the stands ether. I much prefer watching on TV than being at the race.

Sturgeon-Phish- I may be odd to, but feed with molasses reminds me of some breakfast cereals.

Good Morning All

A breath of spring, well not exactly but 45/50 degrees after the January we had sure feels good to us yanks. Got about eight inch's of snow on the ground, hoping it will melt in the next few days.

John, sorry to read about your friend. Happens here every winter. and summer its wave runner accidents.

I don't know what today will bring but I'm ready, talking by e-mail now to Brutus so everyone have a great weekend.  S.J.

laz - "Digger" cam is an asphalt surface mounted camera (I think ESPN introduced it sometime back...kept getting waffled). Digger is FOX animated critter. Anyway, really gives you the sense of speed as cars are approaching, something that the pan shots simply can't convey.

CHUCK and FIFE,

Whats this new DIGGER CAM, for NASCAR?  Saw it advertised alot, whats up with this?  Is it for undertakers during crashes?

laz57

Laz, the Digger cam has been around for a couple of years.  It is a camera mounted IN the track, used to show cars running toward and over it.  It replaced some of the cameras mounted at trackside, frequently those cameras you get hit.

Buckeye, you need to bring back your Saturday morning posts, do you still have them in the archives?

Are you guys still contending with a large snow accumulation?  Our weekend storm has dumped about a inch and half of rain so far.  Another colder storm is supposedly coming in tomorrow night, allegedly bringing the snow level down to about 2'000 ft..  that could close a lot of highways.

State had is first forced day off yesterday, no-one seemed to really notice, traffic was a little lighter.  All the devastating impacts didn't seem to materialize.  I mean they have 14 paid holidays, how would a couple of more days hurt.  It may be realized that 4 day work weeks are not an issue for state employees.

Time for breakfast, then fix a flat, and rest of day in the train room.

Morning all. Sunny and going to get to 50 today - hoo-rah! Everything melting, including me. I got a guy to agree to facilitate our mens small group this morning - I've been doing it every Sat. for more than 6 years and was running out of gas. Jack, you are full of wisdom. Have to cut out and save that post. He's still 14 so have to find a motivator that isn't a car for a year or so. Brutus, you remind me to extend an invitation: anyone just let me know if you're ever passing through Chicago - I'm right downtown. Prayers for Ray's friend and John's friend. Snowmobiling sure is dangerous - never been on one. Going off to sign the youngest up for Little League today! Bag Balm is good stuff - used it when working as a dishwasher.  Laz, I have a twelve-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon for an emergency run to Brutus' - come pick me up in the Tardis.

Happy B-DayHappy B-DayBow Happy Birthday to another Doug!

Blueberry - Are you gonna watch the Shootout tonight?  Sure seems what they (NASCAR) did diluted the event.

Morning!

Dennis:  Great tip on the baking soda!  I need to try that.  We had a similar clog for Superbowl.  I augered it out, pulled out a big wad of hair/grease/goo.  The kitchen drain ran, but I plugged up the shower.  I ended up with a cup of lye base cleaner.  I'll add the baking soda and flush from the Kitchen again.  The guy at the rental center said I couldn't use the claw on a branch drain...the 1/2" rod won't navigate the turns............

Kurt

Mine was a clogged in a run from the kitchen sink down into the basement and across the basement ceiling to the main "out" sewer pipe.  The clog was within 10 feet of the sink.

My plumber of 20 years explained as follows.  The pvc pipe from the sink to the main sewer drain: with garbage disposals, said larger diameter is better.  I think I have 2' and he said too small.  Second, the pitch of this same pipe (mine) is too shallow.

Plumber recommends simply this: fill up kitchen sink with water (he used hot) and then release, any evening before bed if the disposal was used during the day.  So whatever kitchen sink/garbage disposal debris that is laying in the pipe makes it at least to the main sewer pipe.  I told him I used Liquid Plumber gel and he smiled and said  "And how's that working out for you?" as he packed up his tools.  So much for the Liquid Plumber tv commercials where the drain looks like it had been cleaned in an autoclave at Dennis' hospital, then polished.  That being said and depite the plumbers comment, I have found this product very effective on hair clogs.  My wife should be bald.

Re the use of the product "Bag Balm."  Had my wife read one of the POT comments on the product's use and she couldn't stop laughing due to it's suggestive nature.  Told me not to respond. Big Smile

LIVE FROM ROGER's CORNERS!

IT"S SATURDAY MORNING!!!

For the first time in a month we are in for some bad weather.  It is supposed to hit 50 degrees today.  Oh horrible!

In honor of HIS HONOR, MAYOR CHIEF who is off making Hooch at his favorite Hooch House, with his Hooch Hound:

----------------------------------

A busload of Roseyville politicians were driving down a country road when all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field.

The old farmer, after seeing what had happened, went over to investigate.

He then proceeded to dig a hole to bury the politicians.

A few weeks later the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus, and asked the old farmer where all the politicians had gone.

The old farmer said he had buried them.

The sheriff asked the old farmer, "Were they all dead?"

The old farmer replied, "Well, some of them said they weren't, but I didn’t believe them."

---------------------

The Chief and a blonde are sitting next to each other on a long flight from Roseville to Fairbanks. The Chief, never knowing a stranger, leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.

The Chief persists and explains that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains" I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice-versa." Again, she politely declines and tries to get some sleep.

The Chief, now somewhat agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500," figuring that since she is a blonde that he will easily win the match. This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game.

The Chief asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches in to her purse, pulls out a five dollar bill and hands it to the Chief. Now, it's the blonde's turn.

She asks the Chief: "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The Chief looks at her with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references. He taps into the Air phone with his modem and searches the Net and the Library of Congress.  He calls Shake and Bake,  Jon,  and many others.

Frustrated, he sends E-mails to all his CTT buddies. After over an hour, he wakes the blonde and hands her $500. The blonde politely takes the $500 and turns away to get back to sleep.

The Chief, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, so what IS the answer!?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the Chief $5, and goes back to sleep!

------------------------

Busy day today.  Wash car, grocery shopping, clean kitchen, haircut, fix something or other.  Have a good day!!

Ran trains with the girls yesterday!  4-yo ran the crane!  She's getting good at it, but can't seem to hold down the magnet button, and operate the crane.  2-yo sat on my lap and pushed the buttons on the CAB-1, and switched the barrel loader.  One major pile up.  I may have thrown a switch mid train.

Thank you to my forum friends for the prayers for my Washington friend.  I will add them to my own.

Still raining tonight off and on.  My son did a patch job on the roof a while back and it seemed to be OK.  It held up through heavy rain all night last night but then late today decided to start leaking again.  Go figure!  It's just a little drip though so no big problem.  Have to go back up there when the rain stops and look around again.  Either that or call Doctor Roof.

Patrick, not to worry about that old post you referred too.  It was legitimate at the time and probably a reflection of how you felt at that moment.  Been there, done that myself.  We are all entitled to sound off once in a while except Chief.  He can sound off every day if he wants to,

Grandson and myself ran some trains tonight between rain showers.  Grandson said he had a lot of fun.  That's what it's all about and makes it all worth while.  We had three running at same time with Grandson in control with DCS handheld and Grandpa cleaning track.  No crashes either.  That's a switch.

My son went car shopping tonight and found a good deal.  He and his wife are coming home with a new car to replace one that just got totaled out last week.  We all had pizza while waiting even though Grandpa got wet picking up the stuff.

I've been having fun this week trying out my new high speed internet after years of plain old dial up.  I like being able to see You Tube and videos posted on the forum as well.  There are so many links when you view one thing it leads to another.  If you don't watch yourself, you can kill the whole day doing this.

Sleep tight and Chief, don't wake up those bed bugs.

Ray

Jack - all are well, but we had donuts and then a party at work so my tummy is a little off tonight, guess there is such a thing as too much of a good thing?

OT was cancelled for me tomorrow - what a shame, guess I'll have to go check out a local toy train store a buddy told me about - it's just a few miles from here!  Then, wife wants to pick up a cell phone for our son now as he will be 12 next week.  No texting!  I want one with just prepaid minutes for a few calls and emergencies only!

Ray - prayers for your friend as well.

John - also for your friend's family, that's a shame.

Had a little email chatter from RT, but he had to go to bed early.  Sir James and I talked about the phone thing too.

Doug - wife is figuring out something about training in Chicago (tdy) so might be there sooner?  I've been to the Museum of Science and Industry about 10 times I think?  Shedd's Aquarium a couple times.  There is an old-time McDonalds there we visited once?  And I've eaten at Pizzeria Uno and across the street at Due as well - I had one of their t-shirts, but it eventually wore out.  Oh - also the Natural History Museum, love that one too!  Anyway, maybe hook up for dinner or lunch or something?  Have to figure it out when we get a schedule.

Buckeye - too funny!  I thought they "cooked" grits in a bag in the toilet tank to make "squeeze"?  Does Chief still let himself into the local sheriff's cell after he has a few too many?  Sorry - couldn't resist that one!  Maybe I'll pick up one of those St. Louis Style (yuck) pizza's and bring it for Chief tonight, I remember they made a big impression on him when he visited St. Louis last Laugh

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I'll see if I can remember everything.....Jack sets the bar pretty high.

John, sorry to hear of the loss of your church member.  I have seen some spectacular crashes with snowmobiles, people just don't realize how fast they will go.
Jon, both kids do play piano...for fun, no discipline.  Wife plays and kids join in.  I'd really like to get them both playing well as my great grandfather worked for Steinway in Brooklyn.  He hand made a baby grand for my great aunt and we are working on getting it to the house....would be nice to have them play it.  As for Violin, I had heard that the youth sized violin is appropriate for kids.  The girl in his class is very pretty.  She is the daughter of one of our friends (main guy behind the movies).
Jack, I have dealt with that type of clog.  Mix of soap, grease, who knows what else, and held in place with hair and other debris.  One thing that I have done and seems to work well, I drop a box of baking soda down the drain.  Follow this up with white vinegar....it will foam up, but the reaction cleans out the drain.  Follow this up with boiling water.  BIG CAVEAT, can't use this with chrome finish as it will ruin the chrome.
Patrick, We use Bag Balm all the time.  It works great on chapped hands and feet.  It is great during the winter as the dry air and all the hand washing I do throughout the day (go figure), my hands get pretty rough.
As for how the son is feeling, has been a rough day.  He looks bad, eyes sunk and just not himself.  Was rather sedentary until I got home.  Packed up the family and took them out to dinner.  Kids and wife ate grouper and I had the T-bone.  Used that little bit of energy he had to get some good food in his body.

Well, I had better get to bed as I hear we may have a case in the morning.  Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

PS: Rich, any update on your friend at the train store?

Dennis

 John,
Really sorry to hear about your friend.  Obviously he must have been in really good physical condition.  Still very unfortunate.

Also, enjoyed the conversation this morning.  Think I will continue with the story lines, I have saved a copy of them so far.  And, when they are all done, will print them a put them in a book.  I t would be fun.

Tonight on the History Chanels "Modern Marvels" they have been doing a special on locomotives.  I have seen it before but it is still good.  Started off with #90 from Strausburg, and then did a in depth review of theory of operation for a boiler, and how to change tires.  All that done from the maintenance facility at Strausburg.  Really makes it more interesting having been there, and seen it first hand.  One other thing that they had was a wheel crawler for re-railing locomotives that have been derailed in mine operations.  I think I need that as standard operation on my layout.

Glad to see the weekend here, with all the severe weather we are having, a couple days in the train room are easily justified.  Going to work on positioning "highways" on layout, and take time out Sunday to attend a Train paraphanela show.  Have attended it in the past and always found some "fun" stuff.

Hope all you guys have a great weekend!

Later

Good evening,

Since it was Friday, I spent most of the day shopping with the wife. Did make a quick stop at the LHS to pick up a BCR for one of my older MTH locomotives. The original battery will no longer hold a charge. Haven't installed it yet. It was a pretty nice day here, got up to the low 40s. This morning before we left, Jean discovered that a brass valve behind the washer that served as a shut off for the outside faucet was dripping. I checked my plumbing supplies and picked up a new CPVC ball valve to replace it. I did this after we got home and all appears to be well. Our water has a high acid content and tends to eat copper and brass.

Found out today that one of our church members who is a few years older than I, had a fatal snowmobiling accident in upstate PA yesterday. I was told he hit a tree head on. He was very well known and liked in the neighborhood.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Morrning all.  Getting ready to hit the road to the lake house.

Yep...It's hooch season and he off making some new brew this spring at his so called Lake (Hooch) House.   Grits hooch is the worst, but he just loves the stuff.   The next thing we will see is that Roseyville will have a Hooch Fest.  Heaven help us!!
