Good evening from balmy 37° F Southern Ohio,

Bride tells me it was beautiful today but I slept through most of it, ah night shift.  It was warm enough to come into work this evening without a coat.  It was warm last night too so there were no need to scrape windows this morning.  The reprieve in cold weather is very welcome.

DougM – At those times when all is right with the world, savor those, and use them to get you through the less than perfect times

Banks – Welcome to da Pot

DougDG – Happy Birthday!!! Any new train items?

Roger B – Gifts from God, super glue, Velcro, duct tape, WD-40, zip ties, heat shrink tubing, any others?

Well need to check on the guys and a few things going on.  Check back later

May God bless

Jim

Good Evening All

Kurt, the GV show is ALWAYS the first sunday in march and november. And yes I may have to pay to get in. First time in countless years I did not have a table. I kept waiting to see what WBs was going to do.  I'm sure I could still get a table but I don't think I will.

Cooler but sunny day still have more snow than grass but its getting much better. 40s tomorrow and 50s by Wed. I spent most of the morning talking with Brutus via e-mail and the afternoon just slipped away. Banilla and peach pie tonite unless RT  baked something. get ready, mondays coming....S.J.

If I hang this tin foil out the window just so, we may be able to pull in 'Desperate Housewives' on the scope for Mike.  I've got beer and monkey bread this evening! Just had enough time to snap a high cube Chessie boxcar which just arrived on Sodor. I'll post it tomorrow.

Wife was busy with some projects, so I spent the whole afternoon and evening playing with trains.  First time in a while for that long.  Took some trains off and put on a PRR A-B-A PA diesel with 8 streamlined PRR cars.  First time being run for all.  Everything worked great.  Took the time to lube everything before running and I did add the coupler to the rear of the observation.   Since I had to take the roof off and remove the interior to get to the truck screw, I put some passengers in that car before I put it back together.  Will do the others a few at a time.  Can't make any money running empty passenger trains.  Made a few videos and will post a link if they are any good.

All have a good week.

Okay - how embarrassing!  We have been running around for 2 days and getting the run around on these phones and just finally thought we were through everything.  Ordered a couple Domino's Death Discs for dinner, watched some tv (I Dream of Jeannie) and relaxing....  Finished pizza and the phone rings.  Wife, "Hello?  OH!  We'll be right there!"  Uh - we forgot, it was my Dad's birthday party tonight!  We jumped in the van and got there in time for cake and a good visit, but man!  We sure were embarrassed!  Any of you guys ever do that?  I'm sure we won't live this one down for a good long time Blush

Chief,,,,,,,,You are cordially invited to go ice fishing with some of the good ol boys from Northern Ohio next weekend.  Whistling Please bring your ATV because they are a little short in supply around Port Clinton, OH.

Boy my legs ache tonight.  Feels like I ran five miles or more today.  How are you doing fife and Chuck?

And bring some pallets also to make sure you have a sturdy bridge - Buckeye can engineer it for you!

Had those boys used some Grits the problem would never have happened in the first place!

Went to the big boat show today (already have a boat but it is nice to look anyway) and picked up a lot of info for lake property. Prices will not get much lower and I hear Obama and the dems are gonna give big tax incentives to buy homes this year.

Nice here but cloudy and should rain tomorrow. Apparently we are headed back into another draught this year after only 2 years coming out of the last one. 70's predicted all week! Cool

Mark Martin made the front row for Daytona. Hopefully he has a good ride for coming out of last years' "retirement."

Valentine Day cards procured today - flowers later this week to keep em fresh! Dinner Sat night.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

Regards, Roy

Last Call, Ya'll,

Wife and I visited friends in Derry NH yesterday morning and more in Saco ME in the afternoon.  Racked up 240 miles on the road and didn't get back home until after midnight.  Today was Granddaughter Day at my place.  I'm out of gas.  Puppy hit 4 months old and is still too rambunctious for the little one, so we had to tone things down with the leash in the house.

Took a road trip with the puppy to check out Sir James' green spot emerging from under the snow.  Dog sniffed it, gave it two paws up, and then peed on it.

Bag Balm is working well on the puppies cropped ears, Dennis.  Vet said it was a great moisturizer and anticeptic, just like you said.  Thanks for the tip!  Glad your boy is feeling better.  You must actually know what you are doing. Smile,Wink, & Grin

DougDG.......   Happy B-Day, belatedly.  I'm going to have to go back and check Fife's math on your age.  Perhaps a lie detector test is in order.

Rich......prayers that the kids are feeling better.  And for Dave.  I know he'll get a shot of natural adrenaline when he finds out you've been doing what you can to help out.

Banks....belated welcome.

Patrick.....mark my words, this respite in the weather is temporary.  At least in these parts.  Hit 50 today here.  I'm not fooled.

DougM.....14 is none to soon to be dangling the carrot.  Buy your boy a subscription to Road and Track.  If nothing else, it will encourage him to read.

Buckeye.....thought the Ohio boys had more sense than to trust the Lake Erie ice.  They must have been NC transplants.

Kurt......my granddaughter never tires of my reading to her.  If you can get the kids hooked early, school somehow becomes easier and learning more fun.  I'm reading classic fairy tales to the little one now.  Reading before bedtime has become standard operating procedure when she stays over.  Gets the kids to bed easier and helps to wind them down.

Brutus......Maximus wants to know if he is permitted on the Tardis and whether Chewey can go too.  Said you needed dogs to discourage skyjackers and to sniff out counterfeit beverages like Chief's hooch.

Later, gang

Jack

Good Morning, (doubt very many are still up),

The Chief may have fallen in up at the lake, or got caught hotchin, surprised havn't heard from him today, and no post tonight........Strange.

Jim, those "blessed" moments are plentiful.  I can be at the office and get a little frustrated as a result of an obnoxious phone call, or just a difficult problem.  Simply get up, walk outside and look around a bit, and realize how fortunate I have it, and how blessed I am.  Then everything falls into place and problems disappear, and whole day goes better.  Watching children just takes it to an even higher appreciation.   BTW heard an advertisement for the movie on the radio.  I'm looking forward to watching it.

Kurt, thanks for posting pictures of the snow blower, I've never seen one before.  That is awesome.

Ray, I should have gone up to Arcadia today.  The train show in Buena Park was primarily all paper and plates.  Did see a number of lanterns, lights, and locks.  Even learned a little history about RPO lamps extremely interesting.

Laz, Thanks for the workout, I sure appreciate it.  However, next time I won't have new shoes on, it will probably be much more comfortable.  I really enjoyed the snack stop on the way home.  The chocolate wipe out cake was great!

Doug, be careful with that Chessie car!  From what I understand it can drive the cats wild.  We were able to contain it when it was here.  I received Susie Q from Fifey, will need to get some pictures done and post on the next SPF.  (BTW, Thanks for all the comments everyone, will continue.)

John, looking forward to seeing your pictures.  I sure admire your patience.  Around here things don't stay in boxes very long.  That is really tragic that the lady witnessed her husbands accident.

Brutus, when is your wife's birthday?  Post it here and I will remind you before hand.  Remember, Valentines Day is next weekend.

Roy, I just can't believe Mark is still driving, I mean after all he's as old as I am.  I need to pay more attention, just doesn't have the interest it did when there was a # 3.

Closing with some pictures of the highway work I did this weekend.  I'm hoping that as I get things to a "level", I will take on the task of trying to do some "real" scenery.  It looks so easy in the magazines, but artistically I am seriously challenged.

 And finally Murphy's Auto Sales

Do any of you remember that wager that I would have mine sceniced before the Chief would?

Now to go have some Raspberry Rumble Ice Cream.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s today.  Laz, I juggle the soccer ball by bouncing it off any legal point of contact of the body (i.e. anything except the shoulders on down to the fingers, and yes, to answer the question, "that area" is a legal (if painful) contact point as well :-)).  I usually start with one knee for as many times as I can and then switch to the other one, but I have been working on my toe juggles as well.  Watched "Housewives".   It was good.  Drove the truck to work for the first time in a while.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Don, love the layout.  Idea of using the elevated track for the back row on the shelves is a nice touch too!

Jack, thanks, I actually do know what I am speaking of.  Thought of responding to the personal attack, but suffice to say that I have the education and credentials to back up who I am and what I do.  Lot of class using my son's sickness to make such an attack.  Hope this ends here, but if not, I am prepared to fire away, but prefer the humble approach.

Well, have only one case this morning and then I hope to head home.  Have to pick up Valentine's cards and candy for bride.  Already have flowers ordered.  I think folks are going to be suprised by how much they cost this year.

Plan on some layout work today.  Was thinking of asking plant ops at the hospital to cut the lexan for the control panel.  They have all the equipment to do it right.

Hope all is well and May God Bless,

Dennis

Love it.  I have a name for each one of those critters.  I'll let you all guess who is who.

Welcome Banks.

Cheif came home last night from the lake house with a fever over 101 and coughing up chunks of yuck.  Went into crash mode and slept and slept.

New bath is painted, trimed, electrical complete, laminate flooring down and fixtures set in place for the plumber to do his work.

Back to crash mode.  Later.

Morning all. Grey and warmish here - not quite what I expected though downtown - wore too light a coat.  Hope the Chief feels  better! My cold has turned into some sort of sinus crud I must get rid of... Sir J, I am glad the MoW car and crew made its way to your layout - I heard it needed work. It is surprising how far such a specialty car can travel Wink. Valentine's Day? What's that? Is that something special I should do something about? Thank goodness for the countdown - I keep saying to myself when reading Fife's reminder ... I must do something about that...and another day goes by - Ack!  John, I look forward to seeing that spectacular PRR passenger train. Jack, I am envious of your trip to ME - I grew up camping on Mt. Desert Is. though I never went in 'winter'.  Brutus, I haven't yet forgotten something like that - the bride usually tracks it thanksfully, but I've come close... good thing you 'played it cool,' we're on our way...Wink.   Don, Murphy Auto Sales looks great Big Smile

CHIEF, your sick because you were out on Lake Eire when the ice cracked.Wink  Hope you get better.  Rock and Rye!

 Good Morning All:

NASCAR news -fify picks Martin to win the 500. wrmcclellan picks Martin to win the 500. I pick Martin to win the 500. Do you think together we have jinks the man?

Be sides a win in the 500, Martin deserves a Cup Championship.

NASCAR has been somewhat subdued after loosing #3. We do have a replacement comming along in the form of Kyle Bush # 18. Don - keep an eye on him.

Don - Nice layout! To me, a work in progress like yours always looks good because it looks good at all stages of completion.

No benchwork showing, good building distribution, Etc.

I just noticed we have 22 pages to the POT thread, over 4,000 views and 322 replies. Not bad for 8 1/2 days!

Patrick, (and everyone else) Thanks for the compliments.

Its going to REALLY take a lot for Martin to pull that off, Its been a Verrrrry long dry spell for him.  Almost as long as Kenny Schrader had.  Its hard to imagine that Jeff Gordon is one of the "old timers", but he did a good job avoiding trouble last weekend.  I had hoped that Tony Stewart would become a considerable factor, he does let his personality show through.  And, that's about the only place their is some real variance, cookie cutter tracks, about the only differance in the cars is the decals.  I gave up my season tickets to Fontana 2 years ago.  (Anyone need a scanner and headsets?)  Don't really miss them, much better home on TV.  Especially when it was 110-115 in the stands, and 140 on the track.  Fortunately, I've been to Rockingham, Phoenix, Vegas, California, and Daytona (not during speed week though, did do the Petty Experience).

This weeks objective ----  Susie Q,  started working on it.

Have a good one!!

Hi folks

Late today, took wife with me to the grocery store, big mistake, she walked around so slow I put a mirror under her nose to see if she was still with me.

Doug M. Kurt brought your MOW car here with him. he posted it on SPF a few weeks back.

RI I placed a sign under the tree that says its now rated two paws up.

So that has shot my morning, wonder what the rest of today shall be...S.J.

Don, I enjoyed looking at your layout pictures.  Your layout is something like what I have done in that I don't use hardshell scenery.  I have a lot of things sitting around like buildings, railroad infrastructure, trees, whatever.  I did make a little habor scene on my layout using a Lionel Pennsylvania RR tugboat and some docks I picked up at a train show once.  I'm going to have to learn how to post pictures and get a digital camera that won't break the bank to do it.  My son is computer savy but does not have the patience to teach me the fine points like picture posting.

More rain today.  Looks like we are in the monsoon season now.  Small leak still a problem in front room but can't get a clear day yet to check it out.

I am starting a new quest to find some kind of 4-6-2 pacific type locomotive that I can trade for or afford.  It has to be DCS compatible.  I would prefer MTH but can't remember how many 4-6-2's they made.  The ones I recall are the Southern PS4 and a Santa Fe 4-6-2.  I would like to get something that I can paint if necessary to look like an Atlantic Coast Line 4-6-2 in the 1500 or 1600 class.  They were made by the American Locomotive Company and they had a ton of them.  It was the work horse of the "Coast Line" doubling on passenger and freight as well.  MTH made a one size fits all type of 4-8-4 in ACL but it is not prototypical.  K Line made the ACL engine I like but unfortunately sold out before I could get one.  That one came with a train set only I believe. It had TMCC but maybe I could eventually run it with a DCS set up utilizing a cable and Lionel command base.

Chief, hope you get over that nasty cough quick.  That sounds ugly.  You need to get back here.  They are telling stories about how you are making moonshine or some such thing and using the lake house as a front.  More likely, you are inventing new ways to serve grits.

Patrick, I'm not knowledgeable about NASCAR and all that stuff but I did get to see Richard Petty and Bobby Allison years ago when they were racing at Riverside, California.  I went to the drag races with a friend of mine a few times but that was too hard on the ears.

I think we have snow in the mountains here.  I will let you know when the clouds here lift enough to see it.

Later, Ray

Dennis.....I want to offer my sincerest apologies if I have offended you.

It was never my intention to make a personal attack on you or to question your credentials, nor was I making light of your son's illness.  I put the smiley in there with the "call a doctor" comment to emphasize the absurdity of what I said and to hopefully cheer you up.  When our kids are sick, hurt, or are struggling, we worry.  It was my feeble attempt at levity and I am sorry, honestly.  My expression of gladness over your son's recovery was heartfelt.  My comment about you "actually knowing what your were doing" was equally absurd, and I also put the smiley there to emphasize it.

I think I speak for all the other guys on this forum when I say I have the highest respect for whom you are professionally, as a family man, and as as a person for others.  And I mean it.

Please accept my humble apology.

Aaah ---- great races in those days!

Don Said:

"Don't really miss them, much better home on TV.  Especially when it was 110-115 in the stands, and 140 on the track."

And you can see the close passes, wrecks and bouncing off the walls on replays from 5-6 different angles including the blimp, in car camera and the Digger Cam (sorry fify). This was particularly rewarding during the Shootout.

To bad Jimmie Johnson didn't make enough money last year to buy a razor.

Afternoon all,

Having a fresh Cup o Joe and checking up with my train friends!  I got up after a couple hour nap and installed a 761 Semaphore on the layout that I did a rebuild on.  The only repainting was the yellow on the flag.  I used an off yellow rather than a bright yellow to replicate the aging because the rest of the piece has the original paint.  It was not beat up enough to do a total repaint.  It works great and I reused the control button from the 753A crane I removed.

Chief – Hope you feel better.

DougM – Advice for the sinus crud -  Netti-Pot!  Saline nasal wash.  Disgusting but works

MikeC – Juggling barbells, ShockI have a whole new respect for you!  BowArnold would be proud!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Going to go and wash cars.   It is nice out!

May God bless

Reviewed lots of job postings this morning.  Submitted resume to one.  Then I worked on Federal taxes.  Will  be getting a little money back which is nice.  Thought I was going to owe.  I'm sure I will owe the state.  File state after getting Fed refund.

NHRA eliminations postponed until Tuesday.

NASCAR isn't very interesting to me anymore.   How many times has Mark Martin retired?

GregM - Martin never actually retired, but was convinced to run a limited schedule.  If you can somehow catch his interview after qualifying, he is grinning more now than anythime he has ever been to victory lane.  If he were playing poker, everyone else would fold toot-sweet.

njalb - Dig the avatar...can we muster up Maryanne & Ginger instead...?

Chief - 101? Shock Do we have black spottiness...?

Afternoon All.

Another cold & rainy day in SoCal. Lots of snow up in the local mountains, it has literally poured buckets at times. Had to get out and clean out a gutter between downpours. 49* @ 1300hrs' brrr.

Our daughter and the munchkin came out yesterday morning so she could grade papers and we could entertain him, or is the other way around Approve , and the sil could do some major kitchen plumbing work w/o somebody helping Big Smile . Grampa made waffles and sausage for breakfast and after cleaning up the breakfast mess it was time to start a big pot of sauce with sausage and meatballs for a late lunch.

Then came train time, wrestling, hide n seek, dinosaur attacks and everything else a 3+ yo can think up.

After lunch I had the munchkin give his mother a b'day cake for her birthday, had to remind him a few times not to tell her ahead of time. 3yo's just aren't very good at keeping a secret. B'days, mine=11th, hers=12th .

Now, to try to watch the news without yelling obscenities at the bozo's in D.C. & Sacremento.

Remember the Veterans. Past, present and future.
