Dennis--

That's great news for your kids and the Suzuki method of learning a string instrument, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well it works.  I've also thought about that Steinway piano you may eventually own. My only suggestion is---stay after it with dogged determination, it's an amazing instrument and even if it needs to be rebuilt, do it.  We own a very old Baldwin 6'2" grand and we had it restrung 3 years ago, the craftsman that did it said you cannot buy that quality today, took him about 3 months in his shop.

Chief--try not to lose your faith in teachers.  Yes, there are some that end up in the newspaper as they should but I have to think there was at least one teacher in your life that made a difference.  There are bad apples in every profession.

Late mornin' fellas...

Doin' my part to kickstart the economy... AC6000 located, confirmed, purchased, now anxiously awaiting its arrival! SmileThumbs Up

Have 70% of my report mocked up... can't verify content since the data in the database isn't complete, hasn't been updated to match the new report parameters, etc... Banged Head Gotta love when you make a bunch of headway and then slam head first into a brick wall. Oh well, I have 5 more reports to get moving on... and of course I can't finish any of them! Smile I feel like that NASCAR GP38 that's going to be on RT's layout trying to pull all them cars!

Wow, at this pace, might need a new pot every week. It rained a lot last night but clearing now.  Prediction is for very warm temperatures today and tomorrow.  Rain forecast for tomorrow. I hope that the rain doesn't turn to snow, have lots of driving to do Wednesday & Thursday.

Jack...Been there, done that with the grocery shopping.  Karen and I went to a Trans-Am race at Mid-Ohio a few years ago.  Karen made comments about the lack of clothing on many of the females in attendance and she also said that people paid an awful lot of money to have a place to take a nap.

Good (late) Morning from wet Southern Ohio

It rained a good part of the night and morning which is good because it is washing the crud sand and salt left from the snow last week.  Ran trains for a while yesterday.  I like the semaphore on the layout.  I’ll take and post a picture in SPF.  It looks like the bride had been running the trains for company we had while I was at work and had a de-rail.  Maybe she is secretly getting into trains!!!!!

I will bend your ear with a piano story.  About 20 years ago, the bride was taking piano lessons and wanted a piano.  There was an auction in the neighborhood of the home and contents of an at one time, well to do family and a piano was listed in auction listing.  I went over saw the piano came home and described the piano to my bride.  It was an upright, made in 1902, and was painted white.  She was in a rush to go somewhere and impatient so despite my suggesting to go see it she said if you can buy it for $100 buy it and out the door she went.

I returned to the auction and waited for the piano.  Close to the end of the items, the bidding started for the piano, and the opening bid was set at $1000!  No one bid.  The auctioneer kept dropping the bid to $100, and I raised my hand and won the piano.

I called my bride excited about the purchase.  The bride was upset!  She was only kidding about bidding on the piano, never thinking it would sell for $100.  I said, well, we now have a big white piano and I have to get it out of the house tomorrow.

I got some friend from work and loaded the piano onto my truck.  I noticed something very different about this piano.  I had moved pianos before but this one weighed a LOT more.  Well finally got it home and the bride was not happy.  It was painted white, and had a few ivories missing and was out of tune.  I contacted a piano tuner and he came and started the process of bringing the piano into tune.  The piano tuner was very knowledgeable and I asked him about the quality of the piano, and just what did I buy.

The piano tuner said it was one of the top quality upright pianos made and was highly sought after by musicians because it was of a grand piano quality in an upright style.  As it sat he said it was worth over $1500.  Whenever the tuner came back for tuning he would just sit and play after he was done because he so enjoyed the sound of the piano.

May God bless

Jim

DON B.

I heard a good one on The BOB & TOM show this morning going to school.  This comic was on vaction with his DAD, a trucker, coming back from Caloiforia, they were heading through the area that has The WIND FARMs out there.  He says to his kid and nephew," I wasn't to come through here, your not suppose  to see this".  Upon enter the WIND FARM and seeing all the wind mills going he says to them "California has broken off of North America and the Government has all the fans on so it keeps it attached to the country".  The kid and nephew believes him and goes on to tell everyone in their school.  Funny when I heard this.  Is it TRUE?

Jack ... your original post was hijacked by someone else to question my credentials.

Dennis, for some reason you have accused me of questioning your credentials.

I’m curious, as to why you feel this way, since nowhere in my original post were your credentials ever discussed.

The comments about you being a “doctor” were made in a light hearted way, as evidenced by the whistling smiley from Jack, and the winking smiley from me.

Apparently, there is some confusion on the forum as to whether you are a medical doctor. As you yourself have said, however, one need only read your profile to see that you are a perfusionist and not a doctor.

Nowhere in my very short post was your actual job as a perfusionist ever mentioned, much less your professional credentials.

Consequently, your angry response seems entirely unwarranted.

Brent, I have found that on those down times when I am working on paperwork and don't want to be bothered, I put the ear buds in and turn on the iTouch.  People seem less inclined to bother me then.

Only had one case today.  Planning on heading back to the house for a little lunch with the bride.  I am not on call and it will be great to enjoy a few hours with just the bride.

Jon, we are looking forward to getting the piano.  When it was shipped out to phoenix, the bench was shattered, so for the return trip, it will have to be very special transport.  I think the actual date that my great grandfather made it was in the 1920s.  From what I am told, he would stay late and work on it after his normal work.  He was right off the boat from Germany and quite the craftsman.  I think the halls of Steinway were mostly filled with folks like him.

Just because posts are deleted, don't think we haven't seen them, or have copies.Wink

 Hello All:

Couldn't post thus morning. I was at the grocery store doing a Jack thing. One hour shopping took three.

Jim - Do you still have the white piano? Or did you sell it for train money, after giving your bride the $100.00 of course.

rt - Your pics were a great tease for the completed display. You are committed now. NASCAR will be my first purchase of Lionel trains to run on my MTH layout!

Dennis - Any chance there will be a later conversion from violin to fiddle and some good country music?

Chief - 10/4 on the shine running. My special shine runs the truck, remover paint, dehairs hogs, makes hens lay hourglass shaped eggs; and when I take a sip or two it makes all ugly women look like Daisy Duke of the Dukes of Hazzard.

EDW, I, and I am sure the rest of the folks here would rather return to the nice discussions and fun jabs at each other that this thread is known for.  You say that my angry response seems entirely unwarranted.  Well, lets see.  You claim that there is confusion on the forum as to my having my MD as you claim "you yourself have said", Go ahead, find one single time I have said such.  The advice I have given the folks here has been well within the scope of my practice and knowledge base.  I use my knowledge for the good of others, not for my own glory, and not to put others down.

The original comment from Jack, was in response to my son's illness.  I took his comment as toung in cheek and appreciate Jack's contributions to this forum.  Your use of his post:

"Why Jack, are you suggesting that Dennis is not really a doctor?
He certainly has given us that impression on the forum.
Go ahead Dennis, tell him.   "

Is clearly an attempt to discredit me.  If I had the intentions of deceiving people, do you think I would list my profession on the information page?  My knowledge comes from years of schooling, research, and finally practice.  I do not give advise for something to which I do not know about.  As for getting the name "doctor" from some, it comes from giving valued advice and information.  Ask anyone here to whom advice was given, if it was not spot on.  Even some of the MDs that I work with will call me "Doctor" because of the same.  I often get asked my opinions and thoughts on everything from patient care and intervention, to how to fix a pressure washer.

The fact that you used Jack's comment with regard to my son's illness just shows how cold your heart is.  Do yourself a favor and look at the 145 or so posts you have made here since coming on.  See how many negative comments you have made, how many times you have put people down, how many times you just had to show how high and mighty you are and think.  Doesn't give a very nice picture.

For me, this is the end of this issue.  I will ignore any further comment from you.  Regarding my anger, I'm over it.  You are forgiven, regardless of your asking for it or not.

May God Bless,

dennis

Thanks Chief!  Yeah, Ole Timer, it is amazing how many of these things we have to look out for.  I will be running a few of the removal tools.  Makes you wonder about the nature of someone who would come up with such bad things.  I don't know, but could the folks who make spyware detectors, etc., also make the removal tools so they can sell them?   Not sure as a number of good sites with free removal tools.

I got  home and there was a package for me with a number of repair/replacement items for me to get some trains back in shape.  It will be a good distraction instead of watching the news.  That'd just make you depressed.

Chief, have a good trip, hope you are feeling better.

Dennis,

We've had some good times along the way, too.

Why, I can recall one of our very first forum conversations, I believe I was giving you some advice about how to go about getting a patent for an idea that you had come up with.

Hey man, what do you say, you wanna hug it out.

Have to agree about AOL as they teach ways to cause virus (IE fwd with out using BCC) I use to have problems about every 3 - 4 months when I was with AOL but since I left them about 7 years ago I have had one problem ( virus wise) and for somereason it seemed to come from ( can't think of company but its avertises on tv and all they do is dial up) them as I had no problems til I switched to them got there stuff out and my putor ran fine again so who knows that was my putor befor this one. But friend I gave it to is still using it.

Well Don you idea didn't work to well I told wife I got a great idea for you today I got a new hobby for you its called raking the leaves well that didn't work to well as about 10 minutes later she showed up with 2 rakes and said she need my instruction on how to do it. I tried to tell her it was her new hobby not mine but that didn't work to well and she mentioned something about I wouldn't like were she wanted to put the rake if I didn't come out and help.

Okay thats not how it happened but it sounded good to me acually she got up early ( 10:00 am) and said she wanted me to help her rake the leaves in the back yard today as its supose to be windy tomorrow.I said good let the wind blow them away just open the gate. well that didn't go over to well either so I ended up raking leaves for 3 hours today.

Good Afternoon, Yall,

How did that trojan get into my pc?  Not where I left it.  Same with my last virus.  Seriously, things go South for me on my pc because my son's laptop is inoperable, and he has been using mine for music and video downloads.  They can eat up space on the hard drive in a hurry, 15gb so far.  Same issue with his Playstation 3.  Keeps screwing up my ISP's ability to recognize my computer.  You guys with kids coming up......like I said, they leave home but keep coming back! Banged Head  And even when they leave, they don't take their stuff with them and your home becomes a free storage unit.  After about 15 years of telling you they really want and need the stuff, they walk in and throw it all away in about 15 minutes having barely glanced at it. Banged Head

MikeC......prayers for your friends' Dad.

RT.......nice Nascar collection.  Can't wait till your layout construction begins so we can "help" you. Big Smile  Doesn't seem that long ago you were house and job hunting.  Re getting the wife into a hobby.  That can backfire on you.  My wife plants annuals and perennials.  She doesn't clear the garden.  She doesn't debone the soil of rocks.  She doesn't dig the holes.  She doesn't drag out all the tools.  And she doesn't do cleanup or put away anything.  Just plunks the stuff in the ground and covers with dirt while telling me I'm not working fast enough and I need to go get the hose.  Nothing else outdoors.  She considers anything outdoors MW (men's work).  When I pointed out the next door neighbor's wife snowblowing a couple of weeks back, I suggested it was a female bonding moment and that she should join her as soon as I got the snowblower out and started.  If looks could kill.  The dog and his training is her hobby, and it's far too expensive.  Plus it is time consuming.  Drove 240 miles Saturday just doing dog training and a puppy reunion of sorts at the breeder's with the other owners.  Her hobby requires my participation, so there is no respite for me there.

Chief.....hope you are feeling better and the meds are helping.  Didn't know hooch was a med, though.  Send me some.  Have you got a fancy label of sorts on the bottles with the Eagles' Nest crest on it?

DougM.....get off the roads and take shelter. Shock  My FIL had cataract surgery with an iol impanted last week.  He's back behind the wheel.  And reading 3 newspapers a day.  More "up" on everything in the world than any 3 people combined that I know.  Enjoying his HD again.  God bless him.  The miracles of modern medicine.

Jon......if you had people prepare a list of just 3 of the most influential people in their lives, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who didn't have a teacher on that short list. Thumbs Up

Brutus.....sorry for the pile in the Tardis last night.  Forgot my doggie doo doo bag and hoped no one would notice it.  Laz was polite and said nothing when the dog mistook his leg for a fire hydrant, but SJ was somewhat intolerant of the amorous advances. Blush

JimSP.....had to leave the upright piano behind with one of my sisters when we cleared out the folks home after their passing.  Was in the family since the turn of the 20th century and followed the family migration from Canada through Michigan and finally to Chicago.  No room in my place.  I kick myself every time I see it restored to its original glory.  At least it is still in the family, has a good home, and has been improved upon.  No one ever plays it though.

GregM......I used to go around the car races with my wife, taking in the sights with me looking like Marty Feldman with the eyes that point in two different directions.  A real strain on the eyes and got my wife to suggesting I go see an optometrist.  Switched to mirrored sunglasses.  That worked and kept me safe from bodily harm.

Later, gang.

Jack

Greetings from the computer lab where my class is diligently working independently on a major project - so I get to stand up here and say hello. Didn't get outside today but have a beautiful view 'out to sea' - over Grant Park and Lake Michigan because we're on the 13th flr.  I have a nice piano story, if you'll indulge me... My bride was talking about how my daughter would love to take piano lessons but we couldn't get one for now - one of her fellow nurses offered for us to 'borrow' hers for a few years. After another saga renting a truck, finding some friends to move this beast and get it in our tiny house, my daughter loved it - learned to play - and we've had it 'on loan' for the past 12 years. Whenever my wife asked her co-worker whether she wanted it back, she was waved off. I swear this woman wanted to get rid of it.

I recommend running Ad-Aware and Spybot alternatively - there's also a nice free tool called CC Cleaner .  My ultimate solution is to get a Mac...

Have to look out for Jack's dad... I saw Metra's first attempt at 'ad-wrapping' a bi-level today when passing Union Station - imagine a two story stainless car with the big picture of Lincoln. Quite a shock.  I've had some good times at Chicagoland Motor Speedway....

RT & Jack, You guys need to pay better attention regarding the hobbies.  Your going about it ALL wrong.  Need to think about WHAT SHE WOULDN'T WANT YOU TO HELP WITH!!!   That's why the beading worked, IF she is computer savy, then scrapbooking is an idea.  Or just pick up a list of classes from a community college or Sr. Center.  Then check it out, some of the classes have alternative benefits as well, like Modern Dance, (you could always be a supportive admirer at class,) Massage therapist, (You would need to be very careful with this one!  But the class volunteer could really be rewarding as well, just a matter of risk.)  I'm telling you there's a lot of opportunity hidden in those pages!!

Ray, Did you notice the mountains yesterday?  Snow level was down to 2,000 ft I think.  They were awesome!  Never saw that much snow on the local ones before, and the air was so clear.  On the way home I decided to get the camera and find a high spot to shoot.  Got there took 2 pictures, battery dead!

RUMOR CONTROL:  Got this from a guy in our club.  It was a result of me sending out an email regarding a potential combined meeting with Doug DG's group.  "David and I were up at Tehachapi on Jan. 23 to film the Coast Starlight going through the Loop.  We always stop at the train shop in town.  He said he was told Lionel is in the process of moving their stock to a new warehouse in Philadelphia.  His two distributors told him Lionel will now charge the distributors freight charges from the new warehouse to the West Coast for distribution to the retailers (Lionel was absorbing those costs before).  According to him, both of his distributors were dropping Lionel and he's not sure what he's going to do, yet."  This could have a significant affect on shops, availability, and pricing for the western states.  More and More mail order.

Don, on the Other magazine forum, there's a long and interesting thread about Lionel's distribution changes.

I envy youse guys who have 'green thumbs' that produce miracles like Buckeye's magic garden railway and any of you who manage to keep trees and plants - and grass alive. I am very bad at it.

One more hour to go...

Good Evening all

A new record high of 59 today and about the same for tomorrow but rainy. Didn't do much today, mostly just lazed. A friend sent me some DVDs of layouts and I watched one of those, thank you friend. Not up to 100% today maybe from the Chief coughing on us yesterday but I'm hoping it's just one of those days. No trains but just a little tweeking here and there.

Good evening all,

A late night report.  I am surprised Dbaker did not feel the earth move out his way the other day when my daughter and son-in-law took my advice about the vehicle.  As Mark Twain would say about being good, "It will please some and astonish the rest."  Miracles do happen from time to time.  GregM, I have some pleasant memories of Mid-Ohio.  Once I got to watch the Can-Am cars run there once.  The ground did shake when they rumbled by.  I was there Jackie Stewart won with the Lola after the two McLarens both had some sort of failure.  This was before the Penske Panzers drove the series into the ground.  Used to go there once in a while when AJ drove in the CART series.  Been to the last two IRL races as well.  Was really happy to see the #14 car run up front there both years.  I hope everyone has a good evening.  As far as the food consumption on the Tardis is concerned, just say the changes in the space time continuum make us hungry :-)   The beacon is lit.  I can drive again or I can run the trains.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

From what I understand I need to find stronger engines to put under those cabs as there very weak can pull what came with them but not much more and forget grades.

No train news, still looking into cieling fans Sad

Laugh  Okay Jack, remember paybacks are a B(ad thing)!  You can clean it up tonight.  Mike, I feel like driving tonight, so you can run the trains Thumbs Up  RT, you'll have to ask the others about that, as I barely had a dozen of those cookies?  That banilla was great on the side, too!  Sir James said he's under the weather, but I know where he hides the key.  Right then, Mike, RT, Kurt, Don, Dennis, Ray, Laz, I'm not sure what time Doug get's off work, so I'll get you guys first and we can just hang out and watch the trains while we wait for him to get off work okay?  Anybody else want a ride?  Just turn on the beacon, we'll be along shortly Laugh

Wow, eventful day.  Found a job posting for a position that I have the required experience so I submitted a cover letter and resume.  Was quite surprised to receive a response about an hour later.  After exchanging a few email messages I had an initial phone interview in the early afternoon.  I believe I did okay and I think I will be asked to an on-site interview.  We will see.

Left around 4:15 to drive to Wintersville to attend calling hours for one of my uncles, mother's brother.  Saw many family members I had not seen for years.  Seems the only times we get together are weddings and funerals these days and there aren't that many weddings. My immediate family was aware of my upcoming interview in PA so we talked about the company, traveling, how far away it was, etc.  All wished me good luck and a safe trip.

When we got back home tonight, there was a message on the answering machine.  The company that I was going to drive to tomorrow for an on-site interview has decided that they can't fill the position at this time so my interview is cancelled.  Karen is relieved, she did not want to move that far away from family.  She didn't feel that being only 30 minutes from York made up for being so far away from our grandson.

Life goes on long after the thrill is gone greatly diminished.

Well, God knows what he's doing Greg, maybe he wants you closer to family.  I hope that this other interview comes through and you are soon employed!

Jack, can not believe you are not looking at Westminster on USA.  Been on sicne 8 PM.  Lucy standing in my lap barking at the dogs on the big screen TV.  She thinks they are outside her door I guess.

Any one interested in the free link to the free spyware and trojan finder, email me.  It is not a blocker but a scan you run once a week or two.  Recommended by Time Warner computer guru here in the Triangle.

Back to Westminster.  SJ, stil cough cough.
