Morning!

Dennis:  Great tip on the baking soda!  I need to try that.  We had a similar clog for Superbowl.  I augered it out, pulled out a big wad of hair/grease/goo.  The kitchen drain ran, but I plugged up the shower.  I ended up with a cup of lye base cleaner.  I'll add the baking soda and flush from the Kitchen again.  The guy at the rental center said I couldn't use the claw on a branch drain...the 1/2" rod won't navigate the turns............

Kurt

Mine was a clogged in a run from the kitchen sink down into the basement and across the basement ceiling to the main "out" sewer pipe.  The clog was within 10 feet of the sink.

My plumber of 20 years explained as follows.  The pvc pipe from the sink to the main sewer drain: with garbage disposals, said larger diameter is better.  I think I have 2' and he said too small.  Second, the pitch of this same pipe (mine) is too shallow.

Plumber recommends simply this: fill up kitchen sink with water (he used hot) and then release, any evening before bed if the disposal was used during the day.  So whatever kitchen sink/garbage disposal debris that is laying in the pipe makes it at least to the main sewer pipe.  I told him I used Liquid Plumber gel and he smiled and said  "And how's that working out for you?" as he packed up his tools.  So much for the Liquid Plumber tv commercials where the drain looks like it had been cleaned in an autoclave at Dennis' hospital, then polished.  That being said and depite the plumbers comment, I have found this product very effective on hair clogs.  My wife should be bald.

Re the use of the product "Bag Balm."  Had my wife read one of the POT comments on the product's use and she couldn't stop laughing due to it's suggestive nature.  Told me not to respond. Big Smile

HI GYZ,

Nice this morning already up to 33 to get to 47?  Well we swam out of the major PILE UP last nite.  NO plasticville people were hurt.  No damage to trains or cars but sounded rough when happened.  Today going to play trains after food shopping for the week.  Going to take a day off of running then do a nice 5 miler tomorrow.  To get to 52 then, probably run in shorts?

DOUG DA GRUMP Happy B-Day,how old 39?

Stay FROSTY,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 46 degrees. oing up to 55 today with cloudy skies. Maybe the sun will stay out and warm it up to 60.

Today is a busy day. I have some chores around the house and an errand to run.  I hope to make it down to the train room later.

Buckeye.... I liked your stories. Good farmer.

Dining car was here for breakfast. Cheerios. Then, it was All Aboard for it's trip to the big city and " Points West".

Y'all have a great Saturday.

laz - NTSB asked me to tell you not to move anything until their field investigator gets on site.

Blueberry - Are you gonna watch the Shootout tonight?  Sure seems what they (NASCAR) did diluted the event.

Morning all. Sunny and going to get to 50 today - hoo-rah! Everything melting, including me. I got a guy to agree to facilitate our mens small group this morning - I've been doing it every Sat. for more than 6 years and was running out of gas. Jack, you are full of wisdom. Have to cut out and save that post. He's still 14 so have to find a motivator that isn't a car for a year or so. Brutus, you remind me to extend an invitation: anyone just let me know if you're ever passing through Chicago - I'm right downtown. Prayers for Ray's friend and John's friend. Snowmobiling sure is dangerous - never been on one. Going off to sign the youngest up for Little League today! Bag Balm is good stuff - used it when working as a dishwasher.  Laz, I have a twelve-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon for an emergency run to Brutus' - come pick me up in the Tardis.

Happy B-DayHappy B-DayBow Happy Birthday to another Doug!

laz57

Laz, the Digger cam has been around for a couple of years.  It is a camera mounted IN the track, used to show cars running toward and over it.  It replaced some of the cameras mounted at trackside, frequently those cameras you get hit.

Buckeye, you need to bring back your Saturday morning posts, do you still have them in the archives?

Are you guys still contending with a large snow accumulation?  Our weekend storm has dumped about a inch and half of rain so far.  Another colder storm is supposedly coming in tomorrow night, allegedly bringing the snow level down to about 2'000 ft..  that could close a lot of highways.

State had is first forced day off yesterday, no-one seemed to really notice, traffic was a little lighter.  All the devastating impacts didn't seem to materialize.  I mean they have 14 paid holidays, how would a couple of more days hurt.  It may be realized that 4 day work weeks are not an issue for state employees.

Time for breakfast, then fix a flat, and rest of day in the train room.

laz - "Digger" cam is an asphalt surface mounted camera (I think ESPN introduced it sometime back...kept getting waffled). Digger is FOX animated critter. Anyway, really gives you the sense of speed as cars are approaching, something that the pan shots simply can't convey.

John, sorry to read about your friend. Happens here every winter. and summer its wave runner accidents.

I don't know what today will bring but I'm ready, talking by e-mail now to Brutus so everyone have a great weekend.  S.J.

 Good Mornin All:

Watched a little RFD-TV this morning. Watched a good Train & Locomotive show about the Nickel Plate Road in the late '50's, followed by an FFA Fort Worth Stock Show auction. Champion steer brought $145,000, champion lamb $20,000, champion hog $14,800, champion goat $10,500. Some folks still have money!

My most exasperating plumbing problem was when I replaced the main bath toilet with a "water saver" toilet.......every time we had a large family get together, with 8 grand kids the toilet kept stopping up with toilet paper. I now keep a plunger next to the toilet. Each of them now know how to use it.

fifedog - Is it the Wild Card addition to the NASCAR shootout that you don't like? The digger cam does give a great feel of speed, something you don't get in the stands ether. I much prefer watching on TV than being at the race.

Sturgeon-Phish- I may be odd to, but feed with molasses reminds me of some breakfast cereals.

Dear fifedog:

I'm glad you found my story about the Chief so thorough this morning, however, I would like for you to investigate where he got the $500.00.  I believe you, as the highly trained professional of the CTT Forum fraud unit, should lead the charge.   The hooch is not ready to be sold, so he must be getting the money through Roseyville''s extensive underworld crime families that have settled there recently.

Sincerely,

Buckeye - Too easy.  It's near the first of the month.  If we all keep working hard, he can try again after 3/1.

LawsonFarms - The Shootout was for Pole Winners, and past winners of the event.  Since Coors is now the official yadayada...poopoo on tradition.  As for watching, I'd rather be there anyday, especially Daytona.

SJ, That's probably not grass, someone more than likely threw a chunk of Astro-Turf out of the Tardis to just rattle your cage a little. Clown

Buckeye, I won't touch that line about the Beach Bunnies it would definitly get me banned and the coffee pot unplugged permamnently. Blush

Fife, Not til the 11th.

Great day at the museum yesterday, no pileups as Laz would say. But the DCS was being a real pita. Sad

Doug, happy birthday!  Hope it is a great one for you.

Jack, I think Bag Balm has the instructions on the can to do just as Patrick suggested regarding the Teats.  At least it used to.  Also, you may want to get some as when you have to go outside with your hand-warmer-less- snow blower, your hands will chap quickly.  Just a little dab of BAG BALM rubbed into the hands works wonders.  You can get it either at feed stores, or at pharmacies.  It also has antiseptic properties and is great for cuts, etc.

Well, got all the main wiring done on the layout this morning.  Last thing I need to do is wire the turnouts and control panel.  Wire is there, just need to make final runs and mount to panel.  I have some phone wire switch blocks that a kind gentleman sent.  Will use those for turnout runs.  I also want to make a diagram for all the wire runs so I can trouble shoot with ease.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good afternoon all,

It is cloudy and warm in SE Indiana.  The pathways to the Connor househould are now unvexed by ice and snow.  Went to the YMCA last night and today.  Saw the Honda train leaving the plant as I was at the YMCA.  Wife and I watched Nim's Island last night.  It was good.  We got the housework done yesterday and today, and have enjoyed the peace and quiet this weekend.  Also got the soundtrack from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?".  If you like bluegrass (and we are acquiring quite a taste for it), it is a good CD.  I had waffles and sausage this morning on the dining car.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Thanks to all who commented on the family advice adventure.  The story will be continued.

Prayers and thoughts going out to those who need them.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening all from Balmy Southern Ohio

The snow and ice are melting.  Upper 50's will do the trick.  I am on night shift and the jobs are passed out.  I have a supervisor in training on shift with us.  He will be with us the next four weeks, a full shift rotation, then if he does OK I will move to dayshift and he will take over the shift.  It seems my "skills" are needed on dayshift.  Being on days will seem really different because of the 32 years I've worked here most of the assignment was shiftwork.  Straight days will enable me to do more ministry in the evenings and weekends when most of the world is off.  God works in mysterious ways.

I won a crossing gate on ebay cheap, all the parts there but rough.  Another refurb to do!  Smile,Wink, & Grin

May God bless

Jim

Finally a warm day.....it has been a nice one.

Unboxed my Lionel U30C today to find the front truck damaged...and as I thought its a sold out item so it will have to be repaired.  I emailed SJ for some advice.

I was over on the other place earlier..but had to duck over here as I can hardly handle all of the bashing and negativity...

GOOD EVENING

Charlie sorry about your new engine, I know you were waiting for it.

Happy Birthday Doug

Lots of snow melt today at 49 degrees but the ground is still covered almost everywhere. Course I know Michigan unofficial law, and that means as soon as its all gone we get some new snow. thats the law here. I want to get it changed so that it can snow but must melt on contact.

I spent the morning doing laundry and talking to Brutus via e-mail.  Wife sorts the clothes, her job, the rest is easy.

 Hello Guys.

I've been following you off and on for six months or more. You are are a wonderfull bunch.

I've got an annual pass to the Great Train Expo that expires April 2009. I received it as a bonus for renewing my subscription to CTT.

I'll never use it so I thought I'd offer it to the the POT members. I'll gladly mail it to you if you send me your address and you can use it.

Sign - Welcome Banks - have a cup a joe!

Well, had nice chats with RT and SJ1 last night and then this morning emailed with SJ1 and a buddy in Texas named Larry (not a train guy).  Went to Marty's, a little train store a few miles from here and picked up a prewar caboose and my daughter wanted a Hershey boxcar so we got that one too.  Then to the cell-phone place where wife and I upgraded and moved old phones down to the kids.  The guy doing all the programming and paperwork kept having fits with his computer.  Well, now I'm having fits because he basically charged us 6 times and cancelled 4 of them, so hit us twice for the price.  We'll call him tomorrow when they open and get it fixed or take it to the bank for a dispute -- they are the ones that called us about it!  I am sure it was an honest mistake - so far....

Well, I need to get a "holster" for the new phone and figure out this thing - it has email and stuff on it and a little keypad.  It's made by Blackberry.  Wife got a different one where the keys disappear inside and it has a separate number pad that also goes inside.  Smaller, but I sometimes smaller ain't better, I told her Whistling

Happy Birthday Doug-D-G!  Hope you got something good for your big day?!  Happy B-Day

(Shhhh - don't tell SJ about the astroturf, I did it to make him feel better after all these weeks under the snow....)

K - Tardis is ready!  Mike, you can drive, we need to be sure to pick up Doug M first as he has some supplies!  I want to get to Sir James' place asap too as I have some day old donuts to drop off and need to grab a cupcake!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
