Jim,

Some of us prefer to think that you have finally seen the light.  Now it isn't that much further into the light to actually collect Pre War Flyer you know.

One of these days we will have to colaborate on an S gauge thread.  I n eed a reason to get it out of its boxes.  That should help ease your guilt. Wink

Afternoon all from cold Southern Ohio,

Thanks guys for the condolences for Emma.  It is odd not to have any pets.  This is the first time since 1975 we have not had a pet.  The bride and I agree that we will go pet-less for a while.

Did some work on the layout, repaired a broken wire and removed the 583A Electromagnetic Crane and put the 593 Signal Tower Irefurbed in it's place.  I am working toward moving the 766 Animated Station, and making room for the 973milk car and the 971 Lumber Unloader.  Refurb complete on the 717 Log Unloader flatcar and work in progress is the 751 Log Loader.

While downtown went to LHS where bride bought my Polar Express and picked up 6 pieces of Fastrack for $3.99 each.  I feel myself slipping to the dark side .  .  . Whistling

May God bless

Jim

Gee.  You'd think since I stopped posting there would be no problems with the number and length of posts in a single thread.  I may have to resurrect my former personna and show Bergie and the gang what real gridlock is!  Chief.......glad Lucy is feeling better.

BTW.....I need some technical advice.  How do you remove puppy piles from a redwood deck that are partially "cemented" down with ice and snow? Laugh

Evenin' boys.  Tried to stop by last night, but the door was locked.  Been spending this week preparing for #2 princess's 16th bash on Saturday. $$$ (...the engines I could've bought Sigh)  Did discover a source for scenery details.  We have a store called the Cake Cottage, that in addition to wedding toppers and cake decorations, there were shelves of potential scenery objects.  Need roman style columns, check there, palm trees yep, pretty o-gauge brides and grooms, even flamingos.

I tried twice to edit my post above to correct the spelling error.  Both times I got "OOPS" error messages.

I agree, something other than thread length is causing the problems.

Their going to need a new excuse because this forum is not working right. Timed out twice and they can't say too many threads this time.

Charlie:  let me know when you'll be there, and I'll try to meet up, and get a family portrait.

Kurt I'll be with the Glancy Layout or in the area.... Lets trade cells like SJ said so we can get together at the show.

Hmmmm, It seems there are still some problems, or maybe this thread is already to long, been kicked off twice already this morning.

Only thing I can figure out is maybe using the wrong type of coffee, is this the "DRIP" grind, or Electric Perk?  I would certainly belive the Perk would be the preferred!  Chief are you still bringing in all that DRIP stuff?

As far as solutions to the site performance I think maybe we need to "sign up" for a certain time period, so as not to have 2 or more trying to access at the same time.  I can easily handle the late shift.

Sure is strange.  We had 6,400+ posts and nothing said.  Started over again to help the server and now with just a few, thread too long.  Think they have other problems.  I do what they say.

Hi guys,

I'm going to be much more proactive about the process of locking old, and starting new versions of these coffee shop-style threads. It wasn't yours, but rather a thread over in the Trains Mag section (that had 347 pages). We can't have threads that big. Hampers performance.

Thanks for understanding.

Good Morning,

A slightly chilly day here in south Florida near 65 this morning and expected to get down to 48 overnight in the next couple of days. Can't you Yankees keep your cold weather where it belongs? Like up north!!

Cheif, I can understand what your dog is going through as I got a cat that likes to eat people food instead of his cat food. Took him to vet. a couple of years ago because he wouldn't eat anything and kept crying all day. Vet said to feed him a lower ash diet, look for low ash contant in cat food. Also my cat Harley, who looks like the cartoon cat Garfield, will eat almost anything; cookies, cake, cream cheese, ice cream, cheese, sweet potatoes, sweet potatoe fluff, chicken, fish, steak, shrimp, turkey, baloney and lunch meats, milk, whip cream(Cool Whip in plastic container, he don't like the spray can stuff).

Hope this post can keep going, it only had about 32 pages then something happened to it.

Good Morning

Yes Chief I can read, knew my ABCs before fifth grade. So why didn't we just wait till evening?

Cold today 7 now was below zero overnite they say. I started my Ranger thismorning had not driven it since friday and it was froze to the driveway. Gently rocked it loose, don't want to have to buy a tire for that one. there not as big as a full size but big enough.

Kurt, Charlie will be there as he is helping Glancy group set up the layout and we will probably be there about noon. I'll send my cell phone number sat. although you should already have it. Can't just say cell here with these guys, to many memories for some.

Enjoy this day, we never know...S.J.

Bob I am sorry about your lose, stick around they are picking on us.

Morning, about 27 currently in the Dc area. Received some new diecast cars in the mail yesterday. Will have them on the layout soon. Love Mustangs and cruise with several in a local car club, figured I would add a little cruise-in at a Dunkin Dounuts on the layout and combine 3 things I like, Mustangs, trains and DOUNUTS : )

Morning all. Great Googly-Moogly, but it is cold out this morn and snowy! So glad the van started late last night after sitting all day in the Metra lot. Hope it does so today. Taking the train sure is a great option on a day like today - watching the snow fly through the big windows. Got some insights on winterizing a yard scene - its a lot more snowier - with just thin track lines visible from what looks like a vast meadow - and the low signals popping up green and red out of the murk. Quite a scene.

Glad Lucy OK - must've eaten something bad for her little stomach.

Kurt, so you painted the wheels? I'm presuming just the 'face'. Can't wait to see it.

Brent, the bride told me a packet arrived! I bet you're right about the forum software in relation to servers.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is cold. 12 degrees. The sun is shining. Going up to 22 today. Big deal..

Today is a busy day. Grocery shopping. Food prices have drifted up. Must be a new trend. Gas prices are close to $2.00 a gallon. Here we go again. Must need a bailout for gas companies. LOL

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Jim, I missed the Emma post.  Sorry

Guys, condolences to our friend Bob Keller.  He was out yesterday with a family member passing [dog].  Seems two in the last few months.  Several of us know how that is.

Lucy is OK.  Dr. gave her pills to clear her up.  Told me to tell Mom to stop giving her people food or she will be paying him again [wait, she did not pay this time, I DID Sigh].  Now taking Mom to work.

Good Morning from lower Sibera Sad  the weather is absolutely horrible and they tell us it's going to get worse, sorry Doug.  More snow last night and the winds are howling right now, our low tonight is to hit -14 and that's before the wind.  With last years winter weather and now this Decembers snow total (one of our highest) one has to wonder what the heck is going on.  The weather babe just said our current wind chill is -21  and tonight's wind chill will be -35 to -45, very dangerous situation.

Brent--I wish they would use you and Buckeye as beta testers and give you complimentary subscriptions to their magazines.  These forum issues seem avoidable IMO.   I have a feeling that the forum efficiency is not high on their priority list.  I also understand clearly how newspapers and periodicals are hurting for advertising $$ in this economy, it's not a good time to be in the media business as we are seeing staff cuts weekly.

I do hope the issues can be resolved quickly and again, THANK YOU CTT for making this forum possible.

Morning all!

I agree, seems like the latest new year thread wasn't all that large to bind things up.

Chief:  Hope Lucy is OK.  Glad to see you still starting the pot.  It just seems right.

Sir James:  4-yo still planning to go to train show Sunday!  So I'm still in!

Charlie:  let me know when you'll be there, and I'll try to meet up, and get a family portrait.

Finishing up rail cleaning (tops after weathering) and I'll be running again!  Can't wait!  Weathered wheels on the lionel 5700 cars...turned out well.  I tried weathering the frames on one and it was too much.  Will need to repaint the frame, and the wheels.  4-yo spun the wheels as I brushed on the paint.

Mornin' Fellas.

All I'm going to say about this site is - I've been a member of multiple online forums for years and I've never seen one with as many performance problems as this one. My bet is they are using older servers that don't have the capacity to support all their sites and forums...

I do have a recommendation for the Kalmbach staff - how about inviting a subset of your online community to test out your new site before you go live? I'm sure there are a few of us that would be more than willing to help you out in order to avoid many of these problems... just a suggestion

I would suggest that if we start discussing something that could be useful to others that we take that discussion into a seperate thread for all to read and reference.

Another thought - the search feature is nice... however I think the results page could use some tweeking... and what happened to the 'threads I started' option?

---
Back to the real world

Chief - I hope all turns out well with Lucy

Jim - Sorry I missed your post about Emma - Losing a family member is always difficult, especially those that make such an impact in our lives, be they human, feline, canine, avarian, etc.

GregM - I'm of the opinion that if you are looking for work you should flood every job posting with your resume. I know some will say that is not wise because you look desperate, but in these times it can't hurt. Most companies use those job descriptions as guidelines. If you have the skills to perform the job duties and can demonstrate it, then many companies will hire you. If all you need is the degree, look into an online college. I know University of Phoenix has some online Associates and Bachelors programs for IT, and they aren't very expensive... and you may be able to write it off on your taxes as 'job training' expense... check with an accountant before you attempt that. (and if you decide to go with UoP Susan may be your instructor! Shock I can put in a good word for you... Buckeye on the otherhand would have to do extra work since he gave her flowers for the train layout! Wink)
