HI GYZ,

22 and about 2 inches o snow here this morning.  Worked on coal layout last nite for about 3 hrs.  Didn't run trains at all.  I didn't want to do what DON( SHAKE  & BAKE) does.  Thats start working then check something with an engine then keep running the trains.  I fall off of that wagon too DON.  Was working on layout and watching BARRETT JACKSON at same time.  Anytime something caught my interest stopped work and watched.  Saw that the BATMOBILE, a'66 chevy went for $150k!  And one of my favorites a '70 SuperBIRD went for over 500k!  WOW, these people do have money to burn?  And they say us train nerds are wacked?

FIFE, Big Game today!!!!  I gotta side with DA STILLERS, and EAGLES(not FRANK).  I would like to see aPA SB.

Stay FROSTY,

Good Morning from slippery Southern Ohio

Black ice coming to work this morning.  I did not notice temp change until too late.  I spun out and got the front and rear bumper into a guardrail.  I’ll probably wait till spring to have it fixed.  Grandkids stayed over again last night.  We had a lot of fun when I got home from work.

Patrick – Welcome to the pot.

Rich – Gotta love fixing up the AF’s

Don – glad to see your post, I went back and re-read your earlier posts to maintain my IQ as it seems to slip away fast these days

Wes – posted pics of your hopper on the SPF.  I’ll be sure and clean out the bird droppings before I mail it to Rich.

May God bless

Jim

morning all!

I finished blowing the snow off our, and neighbor drives, and it started snowing again as i was putting things away...Thought I was ahead of the game by gettin git done before the sun went down.  DOH.

Made some scenery progress on another area.  Attempting a standing water area.  Spent some time painting ground, mud, and spreading sand and gravel.  Boy this stuff is relaxing.  I understand why people take up painting.  The scenery stuff is very forgiving, and takes awhile to dry, so you can get a small area started, and revisit to review throught the day and make changs.  I'm trying to keep photos of the process.  Watch for them next Sunday.

SJ, Charlie:  See you at the show!  We'll leave right after Church this am, should be there about 11:30am, camera in hand.

 Hey everyone !

Havn't posted in a few days, and I AM SURE ALL OF YOU HAVE MISSED MY PEARLS OF WISDOM !

Been busy at work trying to earn some tax contribution money.  And of course we have a very busy weekend going on.  I did 2 shows today one from 6 to 11, the other from 10 to 5, then back at it tomorrow.  Oh the benefits of trying to do your own business !!

Kay was at Costco the night before last, (similiar to Sam's club), and picked up a DVD for me.  Looks like Im going to become more "cosomopolitan".  The got a DVD titled British Steam, Rare Archive Footage, the video is a full hour and 50 minutes.  COST: $1.30

Have spent most of the evenings this week in the train room.  Working on defining highways/roadways through out.  Trying to get things to make SOME sense.  When I did the initial design the priorities were a. being able to run 72" engines,b. having 2 "Main" lines, to accomodate 2, 72" engines at the same time, c. able to reverse directions both ways, d., maximize switching opportunities, and finally being able to reach everything without using "pop ups" or "duck unders".   So as a result, all scenery and buildings have what tremaining space is available. Resulting in a true "Unplanned Community"!  Then today had some dead time and was reading an article in one of the train magazines about using HElIX's.  And now the ideas are forming, to redesign the layout.  What a quandry that creates !!!  Rebuild everything or at least get the current one down just a little more first.

One of the biggest problems I have working on the layout is, I always find a reason to move an engine or some cars.  Of course that means powering up the layout, and soon as I do that, then a good hour is spent just running the trains, and NO work gets done.

I've gone back 4 pages on the pot and was going to get all caught up, with comments.  But just to tired, falling asleep at the keyboard.

Just a "few" interium things;

Welcome to  PATRICK !  I think you would be considered a Sutherner? right?  If so thats OK.  The Chief needs the help!

John - Really enjoyed the video!  When are you going to do one with your wireless camera?  I need to learn how to put them on You Tube!

Ray - That's really unfortunate about the Fullerton Railfest Days!  We look forward to it every year.  I'm not sure if it would be of interest to you, but there is a small memorabilla show coming up on Feb 8.  It is located in Buena Park, across the street from Knots.  I have found it very enjoyable, usually end up picking up DVD and some modeling stuff real cheap!

Dennis - GLAD your finally getting some relief !!!!  Do you ever need it !!!!

Doug M - Heard on the radio today Northern Central Illinois had a -32 Today!  I can remember a -20 or so, but never -32.  That's getting dangerous!  BTW, I think our heat wave broke here, It only got up to 78 today!  AND, there is a Threat of Possible rain later this week.

Heard one of the affects of the upcoming Inaugral Event, is that there are over 15,000 Porta A Potties relocated in the area, Nothing available elsewhere, East of the Mississippi !  So would probably be a good idea if all you guys went on a GRITS Diet for the next few days.

Lots more I want to comment about, but will have to wait, too tired now.  Looking forward to SPF. Later !!

The roads are snow covered here.  It took about twice as long to get home from work.  I accidentally neutral dropped the Sunfire when I pulled out from a stop sign, and I hope I didn't do any damage.

Patrick,

Sign - Welcome  You'll find that this is a great group.

Marty,

I finally made it out to the Iron Horse on December 10.  That was the first time in four years.  Tom waited on me, but he didn't seem up for conversation though.  The store really seems different now.   I ended up there by accident, as I got lost on the way to South Hills Village.  I put about 45 miles on the Sunfire  just trying to find my way in the South Hills area.

Good evening all,

It was a cloudy but warmer day in SE Indiana with temps in the 20s.  Miss a day and a half here, miss a lot.  First of all, Brutus, the beacon is lit and the zucchini bread is ready.  Got some cold O'Douls for the designated driver (courtesy of the "saucy wench").  Been busy the last day or so.  Went to the YMCA last night and this morning.  Saw one of "my" soccer girls both times.  Did housework today.   Watched "Numb3rs" last night.  Very good show.  We went to a concert tonight at Westport.  Local lady who went to school a couple of years with Lucas has a bluegrass band.  They did a two hour show and we bought two CDs.  Her name is Olivia Smiley and if there are any bluegrass fans on the pot, you might want to google her.  It was a nice evening.

Roy, I have been in some cold weather during some soccer games and even during snow.  My Norwegian soccer friends put it best, "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing."  Most extreme weather was one when the younger daughter had a high school.  It was pouring buckets and the only two people outside during the game were the athletic director and me.  We had big beach umbrellas and were commenting on the "lovely" weather.  Rachel came over to me and asked why I was not in the car.  I said if she was outside playing, I would be outside watching.  Soccer, you have to love it!

Watched Bob's Train Box and got caught up on all the "issues".  Really looking forward to the new Lionel MTH Tinplate catalog.  Be interesting to see what they make.

I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Howdy guys - nothing much here today.  Hung out while kids were cleaning house, then took my boy with me to Home Depot to pick up some drywall and stuff.  Got one of those sponges to try in the closet - Kurt and my other friend Jeff both liked them, so might work for me too?  Tomorrow will be busy with emptying and then drywalling the inside of the big storage closet for my wife.  She wants her stuff put away for the year, so she will help me organize it all as we do it I hope.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em, John!  Laugh

Tardis is ready - got up nearly to 50 here in the St. Louis area, so it should be warmed up and got a new battery for it yesterday since Mike said he thought it was turning over a little slowly when we were leaving Jim's the other night.  RT found a good deal on it for us.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening All

I sat on the couch reading and watching TV today as I looked out and watched it snow and snow and, well you get the idea, its still at it. Weather guessers say we have already doubled our average for the year. Just my luck, I hate this stuff. No real training today, a little fussin but that was it. Big Big train show tomorrow but I'm not sure how all this snow will affect the show, I have banilla in hand and a spot to land the thingy so Brutus come on over here.  S.J.

Evening all!

Weird weather here. First soccer game of my son's tournament was Fri night at 6 pm - it was 38 degrees. Wore the long johns, 2 sweaters, 2 pairs of socks, and heavy coat with hoodie and after an hour fingers and toes were numb. Next game was this morning at 7 am - it was 46 degrees - was able to shed a sweater for this one. Next game today was at 4 pm - 65 degrees - a sweater and a windbreaker did the honors.

Mike C - you guys for soccer season at least have a snow blower right?

Supposed to be very nice tomorrow. 60's again. Big train show here and I am working it for our club all day - get to run trains on the display layout and some show duties. Should be fun!

Doug M - I assume it has been so cold up there this year no point in talking about it any more. Bring on the global warming!

Have a great day tomorrow all!

Regards, Roy

Welcome Patrick!! You'll have a good time here...

Quick synopsys for the day then I'm off to Panera for soup and bread - wife & son out for dinner, daughter at sleep over.

Worked at the LTS today, (Jim Phish!!) cleaned & lubricated a AF engine & tender today runs great, customer should be happy.  Got a Lionel Line Trainsounds tender up and runner, Have problems on 2 MTH engines (exploded condensors).  Had a kids party in the exhibit and had a great time answering questions from the kids and Moms (no Dads).

Doing a load of laundry, cleaned up the layout and found more room on the shelves and cabinets to get some of the rolling stock put away.

Glad to see Jack posting again.  Up to 50 today, was 17 last night, possibly down to 30 tonight.  A 2 quilter fer shere!!!

I'll check in later, stay warm.

And no Barrat Jackson for me thanks...makes me sick  My Roadrunner convertible is probably worth $100,000 but I'll keep it anyway...

Jack, congratulations on getting another dog....I didn't want one when we lost our two, Kim kind of forced the issue and I am glad she did.  I still miss the two we had, but it is great to have the one we have now too.

Patrick, glad you are here.  Lots of good folks here.

Wife just told me she was reading the instructions on her hair straightener....they warn: "Do not use while sleeping", Well, Ok then....

John, that double header looks great...at least what I can tell through all that smoke!

Well, I waisted a good portion of the day on a much needed nap.  Just got off the phone with the guy we hired.  Should have his state medical license by now.....have to check, but it will be a welcome relief when he is here and ready to go.  Smart guy, renting a house till he can get a good feel for the area and where he wants to purchase.

Hope y'all have a great weekend.

Evening all. Welcome Patrick! Spent the past seven-and-a-half - count 'em, seven - hours at a wrestling meet in Woodstock (set of the movie Groundhog Day) to watch my son. I think he appreciated it. Still has yet to win a match but he's only been doing this for a month or so. Did I mention I ran off to the LHS for a sec  - just to look - somehow a K-Line water tower (only $20) found its way in my hands. The bride is feeling a bit out of sorts though we're still supposed to go to friends for supper tonight.  Bought some new beer too to atone for my sin of wastage...

Just a note to check in with the Pot.  Have'nt been on here for a while.  I finished putting together my Walt Disney Railroad Station from WDW in Florida that I got from E Bay.  It is a beauty and easy to assemble with snap together construction.

I just heard that Fullerton Railroad Days, a railfair, here in Southern California has been discontinued after several years of operation each May with participation by BNSF, Amtrak, Metrolink and others.  Seems like the economy, local politics and lack of funding to build a proposed railroad museum at the location brought on this decision.  Sorry to see it go.  Heaven knows there are not enough railfan and model railroad events in this neck of the woods.

Still have not resolved my telephone problem after two plus weeks.  Have finally identified which company is responsible after going to California Public Utilities Commission.  I talked to the phone company yesterday and they are to get back to me.  I missed their call, called back, no response, will have to wait until Monday now.  Have a good week end Y'all.

GoodMorning All

...........And as all grandfathers know, you are gaining a grandchild, but losing a wife.

Sir James and Buckeye......re the loss of the wife, an upside to everything!  My wife actually enjoys seeing my granddaughter having fun With Grampy Jack.  With my 5 year old mentality, my granddaughter and I  communicate well and have lots of fun. Big Smile

Wecome Patrick! Thumbs Up

Kurt.......the 4 year old running around with underwear on her head.  Hmmmmmm, don't have to ask where she learned that.  And you thought she didn't pick up on your antics.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

Fife.......sweet 16, can remember it well.  My stomach starts churning at the thought of it.  Driving cars and boyfriends to set straight.  And schoolwork that starts to take on lesser importance. Banged Head

GoodMorning All

R.I., that furnace  has saved me lots of money on my gas bill but has the nasty habit of breaking down at nite. It did make it through last winter in one piece but I have lost track of the cold mornings we've had. And yes I am THANKFUL every morning that the thing is still working. Very loud exhaust blower.

A ford Tri-motor eh, first plane I ever flew in, from Sandusky to Middle bass island Ohio. It lifted so slow I thought we were going to have to use push poles to get it in the air.

And as all grandfathers know, you are gaining a grandchild, but losing a wife.

Soaring to 20 degrees today annd already snowing again.

All's well with the cows, water pipes and electric fence.

Came in for a cup of coffee, especially good this AM, and to watch "Trains and Locomotives" on RFD-TV at 9:00 AM here in the East. One of their better weekly shows. Lots of steam action and great track side landscaping ideas, and in color. Section crew of 40-50 men replacing track, wooden passenger cars, hand crank crossing gates and using track torpedoes.

laz57 - Thanks for the welcome.

Now out to the train building for some serious work!

Morning all!

dadurling, Patrick L, Welcome!  Lots of good advice here, and some even train related, we've grown into quite a family.

Jon:  Mr. Wizard trick a success!  John:  Great looking coupker addition!

Cold Cold here.  Made a run to Meijer for buttermilk for pancakes this am...Car barely started @ -10.

Gearing up for train show tomorrow.  Sir James, Charlie:  What time are yoose planning on attending?....Need to find some more scenery stuff...

Oh my....4-yo just showed up with underwear on her head....Where's my camera.

Have a small group of 18 friends over for Superbowl.  One friend's 8-yo really likes trains, so I'm trying to get things organized for them to run.  I keep giving him HO stuff at Christmas for his loop at home.

Working on some standing water areas on the layout today.

We're havin' a heat wave... a tropical heat wave.  Supposed to go up to 18 or so today.  I was going to the Whelling show but after going last year and really not needing anything it's a bit far for the size of the show.  Maybe if it was a warmer day.

I suppose I'll spend the time in the cellar.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Sunny and a whopping 2 degrees in the Mid-Atlantic region...and I'm getting used to it...Dunce  Black helicopters already passed over, headed N/E.  Two big events in Baltimore today, President Elect coming to town (can't wait for that photo-op with Sheila...), and #2 daughter's SWEET 16 (for which I was mercifully granted leave).

Wow, miss a day = miss a lot 'round here. Shock

First off ----> Culpepper (just fun to say) Sign - Welcome.  Throw us some pics of your layout "palace" on SPF.  Believe it or not, lots of guys like to follow along from the ground up.

RockIsland - Maximus Plopimus in the Extremous...Laugh

laz - Thanks for the YING "tip".  With these extreme temps, would one's lips freeze to the bottle or can faster...Confused

88 - Best o' luck to the "Q"...Angel

Hey, speaking of NASA, caught the movie "OCTOBER SKY" the other night.  Great "guy" flick, with some pretty good railroad action in the backdrop. (2 Paws up)

Ole Timer - If you reside in MARTYLAND, you already know there are lots of vacant housing sites to choose from in Central/South America...

HI GYZ,

Well guess MILLERBURG, PA got into the big time we just went under 0 at -5 this morning in my back yard.  Now I know what it feels like.

JELECTRIC, at least you grabbed a HIENY!WinkShock

DOUGS NOT A GRUMP,  yes watching BARRET JACKSO eary in the week was quite a few bargins.  Seems like friday and saturday brings out alot of the big spenders with money to burn.  Last year watched BJ on sunday afternoon and they had a bunch o trucks cheap.  The one I remember was a 32 Dodge PU that went for 33k.  Totally awesome not all original, maybe 80% but what the heck for a '32 at that price.

Gonna work on new layout later today,

Stay FROSTY,

Wow! 0 degrees, -7 wind chill, this AM on the farm. Nor used to this here in VA. Turned the kitchen stove fan on last night to keep the pipes from freezing. Fan exhausts down under the floor to the outside past the kitchen pipes. No basement so the crawl space gets cold. Need to check the cows waterer as soon as it is light.

Brutus, jsfelectric, dwiemer - Thanks for the welcome.

jefelectric - The 12' X 24' building is all layout except for 3' on the door side and 3' at one end for a work area. I will eventually mix DCS and TMCC, but sticking to DCS for now. I haven't been to the TCA show, but may go this year. I understand MTH is well represented there. Do you need to be a TCA member to attend the show?

RockIsland52 - Congrats on the new puppy Maximus. We have had 6 dogs over the years. None now, but having buries 6 I think we will wait a while (if ever) before we have another. The Mrs. has an unknown number of cats on the farm, some pets, some wild, 2 in the house.

Well, if I don't have to repair frozen pipes or electric fences outside, or work to start the tractor, I plan to work in the train building wiring some houses and landscaping them.

Good Grief Charlie Brown, took forever to get in tonight !!!!!

What a day at the museum, Black Eye Dead, between turnout issues and other derailment issues I am pooped.

Laz, Wow the prices at Barratt-Jackson went thru the roof tonite compared to tues thru thurs. The one that really surprised me was a 1960 Dodge Panel Wagon, $33K Shock. Earlier in the week they had one that I would have loved to have been able to bid on, it was a 1929(?) Dodge Depot Hack, one of the last models done by the Dodge Bros. Kind of an early version of a shuttle, went for a great price, would have been a great set of wheels for a parade.

P.S.  How in the world are they going to auction-off that Ford Tri-Motor, just gotta see them roll that across the stage.......Laugh
