Not a great snowstorm.  Only 1 degree on the Roger's Corner's official thermometer, and the power did not go out.  Time Warner Cable bit the dust last night, just after I posted my last post.  Does that count as power going out?

Thanks for the congrats!!!  Baby Lionel Buckeye will need a train.  Any suggestions?  I need to buy about six dozen fishing rods, too and a tiny life jacket.

Welcome back Jack. Thanks for the link, years ago (won't say how many) I used to enjoy reading Byron.

Got a bit of a chuckle regarding the deposits being left on your deck, think springtime. The reason for the chuckle, some years back when we lived up in the mountains of Colorado once winter set in everything always looked so white and pure. But lo the surprises that started appearing almost daily as the spring thaw commenced. Smile

I have been so busy that it has been nearly impossible to read the Pot, let alone post.  My apologies for missing so many important posts since the beginning of December.

In this one I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to Bob and Jim at the loss of your precious pups.  Dennis said it so well.  Our dogs become more than a pet or a member of the family.  They quietly become a cornerstone example for the rest of us what loyalty and trust is all about.

Dogs wake up each morning happy and go to bed with the same frame of mind.  They don't worry about yesterday or tomorrow.  They don't carry resentment or grudges.  They love you for whom you are.  They accept that you will make the right decisions; and if you make the wrong ones, you will make that work out too.  They revel in the simplicity of their world and are thankful for the smallest of gifts.  When I gripe about the snow and the cold, they gleefully romp and play like there is no tomorrow.  They give me space when I am mad, inevitably bringing a smile to my face, and they stay close when my spirits are down.  Their faces say "Yeah, sure, rough day.  Glad that's over.  Let's go for a walk!"

I received so many warm and sincere condolences from the folks in this Forum when I unexpectedly lost both of my Dobies within 3 days at Thanksgiving.  I shared the posts with my wife who was grieving terribly.  So many close friends, acquaintances, and family also offered their consoling thoughts.  Even total strangers with whom we do dog training.  My wife and I received scores of cards, emails, letters, and supportive phone calls.  Some even made donations to Doberman Rescue Unlimited in New Hampshire in the name of our dogs who were once inmates there.  These small tokens meant a lot to us, when we needed that morale boost the most.

That got me to thinking.  If I got hit by a train tomorrow, would my passing garner so many warm thoughts and fond memories in others?  Sadly, probably not.  What does that tell you about dogs?  They leave a clear and positive imprint on others that would be tough for many of us to match.

Our dog trainer has a Yahoo blog, and, in memoriam, she posted a picture of one of our dogs on her main page: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/FortunateK9RuffCrowd/

Her caption from Lord Byron said it all.  If you choose, click on the link and take a moment to read it.  A lesson for life.

Jim and Bob, I hope the passing of your dogs brings you the warmest and fondest memories of what they brought to your life and that of your family.  Gone but never forgotten.

Jack

Roy,

If you are in need of a little sunscreen for the soccer game Don or I might be able to spare some. Big Smile  Black Eye

Doug,

It will have to be totally up to you!  Earlier today needed to pickup some sunscreen, went to 3 different stores, nobody had any!  Their inventory level is normally low this time of the year, but everyone was totally out.

The clerks were laughing and said some crazy guy came in bought all they could find.  When asked why,  said something about modifying it to use as an alternative fuel additive and lubricant for cars.  (Makes sense to me, afterall he did design and invent the web.)

BTW, how long is this winter weather suppose to last anyway???  The pool water is only 64 !!

Congrats  Buckeye !! That's terrific NEWS !!!!

Not looking forward to this weekend, have to work a show at the LA Fair grounds.  The issue is there is a major ethnic/American festival.  Over 100 thousand suppose to be there!!!!  Will be a LOT of language issues, and people trying to barter for EVERYTHING !  Strange smelling uncooked food also !!  Maybe should just get sick and not go!   UGH !!!!AshamedAlienAlien

Charlie canceled our train  run

I was bummed too..... Saw 3 cars in the ditch on the way home...one was a hot little number in a BMW yacking on her cell over black ice at 70 mph on M-59.  She spun 5 times before coming to rest in the median.  Dangerous night out there.....

Temps actually went up a couple last hour before the plunge tomorrow.  Hopefully it won't be too cold to be in the train basement tomorrow.  I need a train fix but the cellar at 55 degrees is harsh.  Might have to open up a register.

Nothing like helping the boy study his hated algebra for his final tomorrow after a full day of work. Glad the van started tonight - the tires had flat spots from sitting so long. Glad also I left from the North Western station rather than Union Station where Amtrak apparently derailed at the throat blocking all three commuter lines right at the beginning of rush hour. Happy to be working from home tomorrow - on what is supposed to be the coldest day here since '96. Maybe I'll get to play with the LED Kurt sent me. Prayers for Susan. Congrats to Gramps ... Lionel Buckeye has a nice ring to it.

Brutus, the beacon is frozen... I'll send up a flare when you get near.

Bob - sorry for your loss, missed that before.

Banilla sounds good, but maybe some hot fudge on top?  Tardis is warming up with the automatic starter, be there in a little bit....

IT's A BOY!!!!  Yes, Baby Buckeye is having a baby boy.  Of course we have chosen the name:  LIONEL.  Gotta start looking for that first train set.

RT...Haven't forgotten.  Just need to get some peanuts to pack the trains.

Phish.....Have you ever heard of the MOONVILLE TUNNEL?  Wes, how about you?

Beautiful snowy night.  Cars are in the ditch.  It would be perfect if the power would go out, too.

Good evening All

Cold here too. 12 degrees and lots of snow on the ground. we had small snow showers today  but its to cold for salt to work on the roads so the rush hour crowd had a slow go and Charlie canceled our train  run . Which is ok as I would rather he came when the roads were clear and dry. Want to play with trains and not worry about him getting home.

Banilla is froze but I have some ready so lets go...S.J.

Good evening all,

It is cold and snowy in SE Indiana.  Some one please tell Kevin to close the door.  Made it home ok.  Long couple of days.  Lots of activity on the pot.  Once again I had McDonald's hotcakes and sausage for breakfast on the dining car.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Doug - Sounds good.

Fife - Hmmm maybe I can save myself some grief/dough and not have kids?.... Nah... wouldn't be much fun in life if we didn't at least try...

Just got in from another viewing... friend's brother hung himself over the weekend... just so sad. This is the second suicide in less than a month. Been a rough go as of late.

Could use your prayers for Susan tomorrow. She is going on an interview for a new job closer to home. Her company is struggling and she needs to get out before it completely goes under.

Chief - good news on Lucy... now just have to 'train' Mom to stop feeding her that which she should not be fed. My parents never learned. Our cat Panther thinks it is cool to hover over the plate and attempt to take food off the plate while you are eating... I keep pushing him off the sofa... and telling Susan we should be eating at a table, not on the sofa. She likes to watch the news while we eat... thing is you can see/hear the new TV perfectly fine from the kitchen... oh yeah... the kitchen table is for junk storage, not eating...Confused

Good evening everyone.  Oh, what a day!  Very long, difficult case.  Then I had to take care of a bunch of administrative details....paperwork which I hate.  Then I finally got home tonight and bride made some shrimp and noodles.  Was very tasty.

Been trying to download those songs onto the iTouch, still no go, but we will get there eventually.  Have a big day tomorrow with three big cases.  I am about exhausted.   I left the house at O'dark early this morning and it was 32 degrees....Brrrrrr.  Not sure what the temps got up to, but it was cold again tonight when I got home.

Bob, I am really sorry for your loss.  Next month will be 1 year since we lost a great dog and before that, we lost another very good one 9 months earlier....both were tough to take.  Dogs are just great companions and 100% family members.

God Bless,
Dennis

Dogs and burgers for dinner ronight, just too lazy to "cook", need to spend some time here in the train room and run some TRAINS!!!

Late!

Rich, Lucy was sitting in my lap as I read the posts.  She fainted when I read yours. Laugh

Had shrimp and SOUTHERN fried chicken for dinner.  We ate out.  Went to Lowe's and spent a fortune.  I hope the last for a while.  Now to pay bills on computer.

Guys, the "management" is aware of the our problems.  Be patient.

Good night [tired as sat up with Lucy and then was awaken at 5 AM by Mom to check on Lucy.  She is being wild and bouncing off of the walls.  She's well.]

Evening all!

Sturgeon-Phish
I was looking at the fastrack straights I bought today and it looks like there are tabs in place to connect power leads.  Is that correct?  If so it would be cheaper to buy regular straights and wire them yourself and save about $1.50 each.

Yup.  Curves also have the tabs.

Cold here.  I'm so glad we finally have snow.  It's been quite a few years with little snow.  This is what I remember the snow like growing up.  If it's going to be overcast most of the winter here in Michigan, at least we have snow.

Neighbor stopped by to tell me of a new Hobby shop outside of town.  He wants me to disappear with him Saturday...We'll see.

Any way to get the Pot stickied to the top?  I like it up here.

Fife, I always check the cake decorating aisle at Michaels when I stop in. You can find all kinds of characters as well. Especially Disney & Pixar.

Man it is tuff to lose a pooch, been there done that. Unfortunately it isn't any easier with the last than it was with the first. Sad
