Wow, checking in this morning catches me with my head spinning.  Rich, didn't know that was going on, but I have already said a prayer for you, and for Mike and Brent.....man, what a way to check in.  Mike, stay with us....at least as a occasional check in.  This is a place of res-peace.  One caveat is that our families come first, so don't spend all your time here when you have a family waiting.

For those interested, the movie we did "Fireproof" is about saving marriage, and lifting it up.  The DVD comes out on January 27th.  If you can't afford it, email me and I will buy a copy and send it, as our marriages are that important.

Got stuck working late again.  Came in and checked the pot, left the computer on and fell asleep.  been a hard week.  Have had lots of tough stories that make me take stock of all that I am blessed with.  Watching a mother, desperate for an answer to save her daughter.....and not a good one to be found.  A woman who, through some bad decisions had her arms amputated.  Her life of drugs have left her without family to comfort her.  And regarding that shooting, while the guy needed to be shot....he had shot at and hit a cop, he still had a mother who is mourning....just tough.  I know that others see these kinds of stories....Fife, ya with me?, anyway, please know that we all have many blessings to be thankful for...and this site, to exchange with you all (Y'all...Chief), is one of those blessings.

Train related, I am currently watching a program on Grand Central Station.  It is a National Geographic show.  Several good shots of old steam and current trains.  Lots of history.

I hope everyone has a great day.

God Bless,
Dennis

Dennis - I went back through the animations book by Roy Everett and it is true, nothing is said about how the transfer table works. The same is true of his coke ovens with their red glow and changing scene, and his "Mousebelly Station" with its flickering fireplace. Maybe he was planing a second book. This one was Copyrighted in 1999.

Chief - I didn't see a response to my free scented smoke post. You do know it was a "Tongue in Cheek" thing. Right? Big Smile

anjdevil:  Wow.  Prayers for you and your Bride.  I mentioned earlier, we are going thru the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace seminars...Christian based, 13 week seminar with small group interaction.  So far very informative, and has brought the Bride back into the finances.  I was doing all the shopping and finances, including trains, food and clothes.  Accountability is a good thing.  Dave also offers a couple of books, that should be worth the effort.

cheapclassics:  Mike, prayers for your situation as well.  I hope you stick around.  You don't need to air your laundry here, simple chit-chat is sometimes a welcome diversion.

Thanks guys, nope didn't throw myself on the fork, it was kinda thrust on me....Black Eye

But I guess this is a wake up call, though not as severe as Mike's seems to be.

Mike, I hope you stick around, even if you check in once inna while.  I found my family not to be as socible as I thought and my sister is working her problems out as well.  This was just added to make this whole experience more "fun", on top of the fun I am having now.Dead Black Eye

Mike, for what it's worth, my friends at home in Jersey and my friends here, provide the support and encouragement (and a needed laugh - thanks again, RT) when you really need it.  Nobody knows what you or I are going through, to be sure, but it's people from here and up there that will help us make it through the tough times.  After all, with Deacon Jim here (and maybe the Chief), we have a little influence from the Maker, don't cha think?Smile,Wink, & Grin

Thanks again, guys.  I might reveal all after the smoke clears ( and wouldn't cha know, my positive pressure fan is in the shop again - - firefighter humour).Banged Head

See ya inna bit!

Mornin' Fellas.

Not much news around these parts... so I'll focus this post on my 'friends'.

Mike C. - Not certain as to what is going on right now, but we'll put you on our 'job prayer list'. We are dealing with a bit of a situation ourselves, aint easy let me tell you. This isn't the first time I've had to deal with this, hopefully it is the last, all I know is this time around my relationship is a heck of a lot stronger and we'll weather it together instead of in court. I kind of wish I had known this group of fellas back then as, for some reason, they seem to be solid foundation for many of us when times are rough. I know this is just words, but I really do find you all to be friends, if you or anyone else here needs to talk, shoot me an email I will provide other contact information as necessary.

anjdevil - You too will be added to the prayer list.

I've been off and on around here for the last 6 months and I do try to keep up with what is going on... just gets tough sometimes.

Fife - shoulder shot? Shock What the heck happened man?

David L - We don't mind you 'hanging out' with us, however it would be nice if you participated. Wink

cheapclassics - This Coffee Pot has been a "mental oasis" for me many times.  Stick around...k...

How true that is.  You will find a prayer for you is already been said [right here at the computer] and I am sure others will follow.  Keep the faith.

Warmer this AM.  Got email and then phone call.  "Can you take Lucy to the groomer this morning?"  "OH, can you pick her up as I car pooled and did not drive?"  She did not drive yesterday either??????  That means I PAY for grooming.  Just like I paid vet the day I took her because she couldn't poop because her Mom had filled her tummy with HAM. Sign - Oops  This isn't my dog!!!!  Like all pets this family evr had, I end up tending to them.  Got to go.  Have a good one.  Remember Mike.  Thanks

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s before crashing tomorrow.  Speaking of crashing, my world came crashing down around me yesterday.  No health issues in the family, but lots of news came my way and none of it was good, mostly job related, but even some information from the YMCA (of all things) was not positive.  Was considering not posting here any more as I think life will be more "interesting" than I can stand.  Right now I have too many questions about my future and way too few answers.  If I do not post for a while (or ever), I want all to know it has been a lot of fun and I appreciate all the support, stories and adventures we have shared.  If and when I post again, maybe I can fill everybody in on what is going on, and maybe I will have some good news.  Two positive notes.  The latest CTT arrived and now I finally understand the track plan on the project section.  Also, enjoyed watching my cousin's son play freshman basketball last night.  They won in a barn burner. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  I hope everyone has a good life (including me).

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 21 (s'posed to shoot all the way up to 47) here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Gotta take down the icicle lights I left up for Festivus.  I also need to mask off and paint my new Meyersdale station.  Three day weekend ahead.

Charlie - Best regards...

anjdevil - YOWZA.  You spoke of coming to a fork in the road...did you throw yourself on it Confused

Chief - If that 135K lure was setting in my tackle box, curiosity would surely set in and I'd have to see if it really catches fish.  I'd tie it on to my spinning rig (totally forgetting the STREN on that spool is at least 5 years old), wind back, annnnnd...you know what happens next.

Hey Guys,

34 this AM (0600) up to a blistering 66 later - but I don't believe it.

Got some more stuff done, I'm really starting to take more control of my life financially (after the wife's aborted divorce of moi!) and these and a few other items will make everything better.  Suffice to say, the road ahead is gonna be rough, but the outcome should be worth the effort.

Charlie - Angel for you and the family

RT - Dude, seriously, you have no idea how welcome your e-mail was.  Good timing, for sure!!

OK, we'll check in later - have work already...(yikes TGIF Buckey & Laz!!)

Chief - can't think of the title, but we have that Doris movie on dvd.  It is cute, but not one of her best.  Sir James, I'll be there in about 10 minutes.  Oh, I saved your BBQ brisket sandwich and sweet potato fries, but someone ate your vinegar slaw.  Sorry, man!

Speaking of fishing.  Got a box of old lures in the mail.  Sure was nice.  Now I need the forum's advice.  If you got a box of old lures from someone [for free] and you found one worth $135,000 [because it is rare now], would you own up to it to the giver, split it with the giver, give it back to the giver or run with the money and say nothing?

Shock  Banged Head  Dead

Chief....In your case, it depends where the giver lives.

For example, if they lived in Ohio, you better split the money 70-30 or all the snow in the world would get dumped in Roseyville. If the person lived in say, Texas a 50-50 split would be appropriate, but if it was one of those California fruits or nuts, send them a thank you note with a package of new non-barbed hooks.  They will think you are the greatest guy on the planet and are being kind to the fishies.

Off to Walmart to buy a pack of barbless hooks. Laugh

Now hear this.  I DVR'd a movie and did not know much about it as the info on the guide was not too informative.  It is Untraceable with Dianne Lane.  It is simular to Criminal Minds [on CBS].  It is a must see movie.  Now to go see the other movie I DVR'd.  Not sure the title.  Doris Day fight a RR with her lobster co.  One of those good old clean movies.  Later.

Good Evening

No sun, no snow melt, maybe tomorrow.

Ran the GG1 a few laps whilst I was doing a little rewiring, very little though don't remember how I did all that stuff and not neat enough to have done it with a plan in mind. I did mark the wires though.

Not much else today so Brutus can come and take me away from here. I have root beer and banilla ready.   S.J.

Howdy guys - it's 47 degrees in St. Louis now and watching Extreme Trains on the Acela, pretty cool!  Nothing much going on here but work and more work.  Hope all are doing well and keeping busy like our buddy Dave L!  Kit Bond suggested that the prisoners be moved from Gitmo to Alcatraz since folks in that vicinity were so concerned - this way they could ensure the treatment was good --- security?  Good luck!  Sorry, that's as political as I'll get - seems like a bad idea to me to bring these people into our country and nobody else wants them either.

Checking out some Marx gondolas after talking to Doug, RT and Sir James - have an idea for a project....

Evening all.  Can see better now but still some blur.  No glasses for 10 days???  Thought that was a little lengthy.  I can read and see without them [do that a lot].  Now if I have to tie a 8lb. Magnithin on a tiny jig, different story.  Speaking of perscription sunglasses, the frames are HOBIE and cost a ton when I bought them 12 years ago.  The wrap around type with side pannels to keep sun out of your eyes.  Takes them to stay on when you are "blasting" across the water in a bass boat.  [Buckeye would not know as he can only putter across the water Whistling

Back to the grind.  Walked the Main Street Park trail with Lucy and Pam.  Saw 9 deer in one spot and 1 in another.  All close to my feeding station I have established in the park.  They got fed for the first time since the snow.  They do have a large apple/salt block.  Walked the lease and fed the deer there too.  Been feeding them since the snow.

Speaking of shooting.  I love to shoot ground hogs with my HMR .17.  Got two scopes for it.  One is a 3X9 and the other is a 3X9 and is the sniper type.  Can dial in the range and it comensates for bullet drop if you use the HMR with polymer tip.  Remington rounds, you have to adjust hold slightly.

Now, I am glad Dennis was shooting in prairie dog city.  Actually the one he shot was 5 feet over from the one he was aiming at. Shock Laugh

BTW: Pam found a nice cute puppy for David L's girls.  Think we should make him buy it.

Later.

Jon, that is how we would do it.  Take several rifles and 1000's of rounds along with a shooting rest.  We'd spend days just eliminating entire towns for the ranchers.  We had gone to one area where they had been poisoned.....trust me, shooting them is much better.  Regarding short fuses, It takes me quite some time to get upset.  I have seen some folks with short fuses...usually hurt themselves before anyone else.

 Dennis--

My former neighbor and buddy used to drive to South Dakota and shoot prairie dogs in the spring and fall, they would literally shoot hundreds of them.  He was quite the shot, loaded everything and had a huge collection and always carried plus he had a short fuse.  I always told the boys to never upset him, he was good to our boys.  He used to take them to his gun club to shoot targets, good guy if he liked. you.

Just a quik follow-up on the "Prarie Dogs", apparently these are home made ops using electronics from the folks that Patrick found. On the Paradise & Pacific O Gauge Exhibit in Scottsdale, Az.

Paul Boston & Bill Rodgers of P&P masterminded these new automatons.  Technical details: six prairie dogs, w/ ten servos under display, operating them, driven randomly by a micro-processor.  Six raise & lower the dogs, four dogs also rotate - randomly.

The "Fisherman" have been posted before, not the "Watchtower".

Ah, Prarie Dogs...make good targets.  I shot one with a 22-250 out at 585 yards in Colorado....in a wind.  Doubt i'd have room for a big enough area for a "Dog Town".  As a side note, we did see one on a mound in the little grassy area next to the sidewalk by a WalMart....area couldn't have been more than 2x 6 feet.

Patrick, that "Animations" book is nice, I just wish he had given the list of items for the transfere table that is featured.  It was a great idea, but they didn't say much about it.

Well, they added a case on for us, so I still have some work to get done.

Doug - I checked out the animated prairie dog on youtube. It looked great! I have pastures on my layout (or at least I will have when completed) and animation is my thing. Don't know much about it yet but want to learn.

I have the ORR book "Animations For Your Lauout" using Erector Set parts and electronic parts, all parts listed for each project. No PICAXE mentioned, must be before their time.

I searched a little and found the PICAXE web site. They have an active forum, but havn't had time to  check it out. On my way ort to a birthday party. Will check it out more later. PICAXE appears to be electro/mechanical way of animating. I sure would like to learn more - find a book or take a class on line, Etc.

Maybe I will start a thread here on this forum for PICAXE (and maybe on the "other" forum as well).

More later
