Jack, I got an idea for you that would really simplify your "Poo Patrol" especially with single digit temps. Go rent a really strong snow blower with a movable chute so you can aim it all to an acceptable location. Like maybe a neighbor's yard.
Got every thing packed for tomorrow's run, hopefully it will be "uneventful" from a problematic point of view.
Buckeye, Great shots from the canyon. Forgot to ask if your friend enjoyed his visit to this neck of the woods ?

Rock, glad to have you back here. I really enjoy your sumation in your posts as it refreshes my mind of what each of the others are doing so that I may comment too. Not getting lazy, just senile.

But as Brutus says, supposed to be drop into the cellar temp-wise later today, Had a good long meeting with guidance counselors at the high school re the middle boy this morn. Kurt, got the light out yesterday, fiddled around with it with Percy too. I'll email you some questions I have. Then set up the blinking water tower - or rather the water tower with a red blinker at the top. Finally tried to wire up the MTH tinplate semaphore with a lock-on and what-ever MTH calls its 153C - a TAD? When it buzzes but nothing happens, that's a bad thing, right?

Good morning all, Sunny weather finally changed to cloudy for the next few days. Some rain showers in forecast too but nothing like you guys in the ice box on the East Coast.
Don, someone gave me a copy of that "Birth of a Nation" film sometime ago. Had some stuff about the KKK and other things like that. Hopefully, that kind of stuff is relagated to the ash heap of history. It is part of history though such as it is.
Chief, I see you are gearing up with the new shades to look cool on the lake. Good that you can use your old frames. Sometimes they won't do it if the old ones are not strong enough.
I finally got my phones turned back on and have ordered a DSL system. I guess I will have to figure out how to hook that up when it gets here. I hate all this technical stuff. I'm a black and white, low Fi, one D type of guy except for the modern trains which I tolerate cause I like all the bells and whistles.

We are in the middle of a heatwave! It is up to the mid 40's! I may try to wash the cars because the other day deers were trying to lick my car there was so much salt on it.
Chief - Did you have the mamillary glands removed when Lucy was spayed? I would reccomend it. Our dogs died due to tumors on the mamillry gland.

Doug - I checked out the animated prairie dog on youtube. It looked great! I have pastures on my layout (or at least I will have when completed) and animation is my thing. Don't know much about it yet but want to learn.
I have the ORR book "Animations For Your Lauout" using Erector Set parts and electronic parts, all parts listed for each project. No PICAXE mentioned, must be before their time.
I searched a little and found the PICAXE web site. They have an active forum, but havn't had time to check it out. On my way ort to a birthday party. Will check it out more later. PICAXE appears to be electro/mechanical way of animating. I sure would like to learn more - find a book or take a class on line, Etc.
Maybe I will start a thread here on this forum for PICAXE (and maybe on the "other" forum as well).

Ah, Prarie Dogs...make good targets. I shot one with a 22-250 out at 585 yards in Colorado....in a wind. Doubt i'd have room for a big enough area for a "Dog Town". As a side note, we did see one on a mound in the little grassy area next to the sidewalk by a WalMart....area couldn't have been more than 2x 6 feet.
Patrick, that "Animations" book is nice, I just wish he had given the list of items for the transfere table that is featured. It was a great idea, but they didn't say much about it.
Well, they added a case on for us, so I still have some work to get done.

Just a quik follow-up on the "Prarie Dogs", apparently these are home made ops using electronics from the folks that Patrick found. On the Paradise & Pacific O Gauge Exhibit in Scottsdale, Az.
Paul Boston & Bill Rodgers of P&P masterminded these new automatons. Technical details: six prairie dogs, w/ ten servos under display, operating them, driven randomly by a micro-processor. Six raise & lower the dogs, four dogs also rotate - randomly.

My former neighbor and buddy used to drive to South Dakota and shoot prairie dogs in the spring and fall, they would literally shoot hundreds of them. He was quite the shot, loaded everything and had a huge collection and always carried plus he had a short fuse. I always told the boys to never upset him, he was good to our boys. He used to take them to his gun club to shoot targets, good guy if he liked. you.
Jon, that is how we would do it. Take several rifles and 1000's of rounds along with a shooting rest. We'd spend days just eliminating entire towns for the ranchers. We had gone to one area where they had been poisoned.....trust me, shooting them is much better. Regarding short fuses, It takes me quite some time to get upset. I have seen some folks with short fuses...usually hurt themselves before anyone else.
Evening all. Can see better now but still some blur. No glasses for 10 days??? Thought that was a little lengthy. I can read and see without them [do that a lot]. Now if I have to tie a 8lb. Magnithin on a tiny jig, different story. Speaking of perscription sunglasses, the frames are HOBIE and cost a ton when I bought them 12 years ago. The wrap around type with side pannels to keep sun out of your eyes. Takes them to stay on when you are "blasting" across the water in a bass boat. [Buckeye would not know as he can only putter across the water ]

Back to the grind. Walked the Main Street Park trail with Lucy and Pam. Saw 9 deer in one spot and 1 in another. All close to my feeding station I have established in the park. They got fed for the first time since the snow. They do have a large apple/salt block. Walked the lease and fed the deer there too. Been feeding them since the snow.
Speaking of shooting. I love to shoot ground hogs with my HMR .17. Got two scopes for it. One is a 3X9 and the other is a 3X9 and is the sniper type. Can dial in the range and it comensates for bullet drop if you use the HMR with polymer tip. Remington rounds, you have to adjust hold slightly.
Now, I am glad Dennis was shooting in prairie dog city. Actually the one he shot was 5 feet over from the one he was aiming at.
BTW: Pam found a nice cute puppy for David L's girls. Think we should make him buy it.

Howdy guys - it's 47 degrees in St. Louis now and watching Extreme Trains on the Acela, pretty cool! Nothing much going on here but work and more work. Hope all are doing well and keeping busy like our buddy Dave L! Kit Bond suggested that the prisoners be moved from Gitmo to Alcatraz since folks in that vicinity were so concerned - this way they could ensure the treatment was good --- security? Good luck! Sorry, that's as political as I'll get - seems like a bad idea to me to bring these people into our country and nobody else wants them either.

For example, if they lived in Ohio, you better split the money 70-30 or all the snow in the world would get dumped in Roseyville. If the person lived in say, Texas a 50-50 split would be appropriate, but if it was one of those California fruits or nuts, send them a thank you note with a package of new non-barbed hooks. They will think you are the greatest guy on the planet and are being kind to the fishies.

Now hear this. I DVR'd a movie and did not know much about it as the info on the guide was not too informative. It is Untraceable with Dianne Lane. It is simular to Criminal Minds [on CBS]. It is a must see movie. Now to go see the other movie I DVR'd. Not sure the title. Doris Day fight a RR with her lobster co. One of those good old clean movies. Later.

34 this AM (0600) up to a blistering 66 later - but I don't believe it.
Got some more stuff done, I'm really starting to take more control of my life financially (after the wife's aborted divorce of moi!) and these and a few other items will make everything better. Suffice to say, the road ahead is gonna be rough, but the outcome should be worth the effort.

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s before crashing tomorrow. Speaking of crashing, my world came crashing down around me yesterday. No health issues in the family, but lots of news came my way and none of it was good, mostly job related, but even some information from the YMCA (of all things) was not positive. Was considering not posting here any more as I think life will be more "interesting" than I can stand. Right now I have too many questions about my future and way too few answers. If I do not post for a while (or ever), I want all to know it has been a lot of fun and I appreciate all the support, stories and adventures we have shared. If and when I post again, maybe I can fill everybody in on what is going on, and maybe I will have some good news. Two positive notes. The latest CTT arrived and now I finally understand the track plan on the project section. Also, enjoyed watching my cousin's son play freshman basketball last night. They won in a barn burner. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast this morning. I hope everyone has a good life (including me).

Warmer this AM. Got email and then phone call. "Can you take Lucy to the groomer this morning?" "OH, can you pick her up as I car pooled and did not drive?" She did not drive yesterday either?????? That means I PAY for grooming. Just like I paid vet the day I took her because she couldn't poop because her Mom had filled her tummy with HAM. This isn't my dog!!!! Like all pets this family evr had, I end up tending to them. Got to go. Have a good one. Remember Mike. Thanks
