This is all in a thread on how to "Light a Dummy"

You can't make this stuff up, its too good ! Laugh

You are the DUMMY.  Posted a thread on CTT detailing the job.  Buckeye [yes Buckeye] suggested CTT run it in their magazine.  They never said a word.   Been doing that for years now.  How do you think I get all that smoke in the train room.

Cold tonight but not like last night.  Going to be close to 50 degrees tomorrow.  Going to take Lucy for stiches out and then eye Dr.  Have not had eye exam and glasses upgraded in 2 1/2 years.  Also getting perscription Polorized sunglasses in my old frames [last perscription was 10 years ago].  Later.

Boy talk about sensitive !  And I didn't call anyone a dummy either.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 30s.  Busy last night.  My dad and I went out to see a local person's layout.  Quite impressive.  He had four trains running at once.  Got back home and did the YMCA thing.  Good workout, lousy juggling.  Started to watch "Lost" but decided to catch the repeat on Saturday night.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sunny and cold (25) in South Georgia (Jax, FL) for second day in a row. Supposed to be up to 70 by the weekend. That won't come soon enough for me. Lots of plants in the yard have been "singed" by the cold. Went to Dentist on Tuesday. Did an evaluation, gave me 3 choices on the broken tooth repair. I chose to have the titanium implant but that won't happen for a month. I have 4 appointments to do a thorough cleaning of all the teeth I have left. First one today at 10:30. It's been many, many moons since I was last in a dentist's chair (torture rack). Saw an FEC train (Northbound) passing me while I was on the way to St. Augustine yesterday afternoon. No other train news at the moment. Stats class tonight at 7:30. Stay warm!

Good Morning,

Almost able to build snowmen here in south Florida, since midnight it has been quite cold, below freezing in a couple of cities just a few miles north of West Palm Beach FL. Out in western Palm Beach, Wellington area, it got to around 32 overnight and was about 34 when I got up this morning. Even Miami FL saw some cold temps overnight, high 30's or low 40's.

Wife had no problem with starting her car, so I guess the heavy duty battery I installed about 25 months ago really helped.

Cheif, I took your advice in the email.

Morning,

Mel has given the weather report, it was an observed 24 degrees at 0600 in the company truck!

Decision day is close at hand, made some local "trips" around the area, so far so good (as can be expected).  This deal is going to be real expensive real fast.Banged Head

Got in an MPC PRR observation car last night, possibly the last thing I get for a while.  I still have to pay for the C&O W/TMCC I've had for a month.  I think I can scrape up $200.....just need to liquidate some "other" stuff.

Princess sprained her foot yesterday climbing a fence of all things.  Not broken as far as I can tell, but very painful.  Gave 2 Motrin and hopefully she'll be ok for the day.  She has rehersals today and tomorrow and then, if she can dance, a basketball game tomorrow night.

 See ya inna bit...

Hey anjdevil2,

Is it cold enuff for you? Or should I call Jack Frost for some more winter weather?  For me it is too cold down here in south Florida. Heaters at work were working last night, it gets chilly in the toll booth at night. Speaking of work they have a new policy now; if you call out sick and don't have the time off to cover it you get wrote up, after so many write-ups you are terminated from the place. Not sure if that is legal under Florida law or not as Florida has no employee rights laws(it is a right to work state, in legal terms) on the books, so basically an employer can fire you at will and not get in trouble with the state.

Yeah, it's plenty cold, a 2 quilter for sure.  Even the cats are sleeping on the bed with me.  And they know how to stay warm!!

To me, it feels colder here than up north, but, that's just me.

Sign - Off Topic!!As if that is unusual for me!

Anyway, I don't recall what spawned my interest.  But, I was made aware of a film that was made in 1915, Birth of a Nation, by D.W. GriffithAnyway this film was one of the first "Block Buster" films, and is renowned for its technical and filming techniques for the time.  It resulted in riots through out the contry when it was aired in the early 20's, and was banned in a number of states including Ohio.  It has been also banned from television.  A local theatre in Santa Monica, which features old silent movies was going to air the film last year.  As a result of all the protests, the showing was cancelled.

All of this really spurned my curosity, first, never hearing of it before, and second, the fact that it has been censored so much.  So I got it from Netflix and watched it last 2 nights.  The film is almost 3 hrs and is of course silent.  It starts as a historical review from all the way back to the Revolution and procedes through Reconstruction after the Civil War.  There is also additional footage regarding some deleted scenes, and perspective on how the film was originally made. It certainly was quite interesting, and very thought provoking, especially when you consider the culture of our country at that time.

Now, what was the point of me discussing all this, I don't really know.  Other than sharing a piece of our history that I hate to see just being lost.  Because, somethings are not Politically Correct, in my mind certainly doesn't mean that they didn/t happen.  Thanks for listening.

BRRRRR!  Was on the chilly side this morning.  Down to 28, but I hear it was colder by you David L.  Supposed to head to 70s tomorrow.  We have a train show coming this weekend, so I may have to make some purchases.

Wife called last night while I was here till past 11.  Seems our kids both won some art contests.  That is, until they found out the daughter is only 4.  The minimum age is 5, but the teacher had submitted the work.  While she can't officially win, it is a great honor for her to have beaten so many entries from kids who are older than her.  Son still wins his contest.  Not sure what all is involved with the award ceremonies.  Just looking forward to his "Major Award".  Perhaps a leg lamp for the front windows?

Well, I must head in the room as I am needed on a case.  Hope everyone has a great day.  And, before I leave,  David L., Why don't you introduce yourself to the rest of us?  Of course, if Uncle Sam prohibits it, we can wait till you get home.

Greetings from still frigid Taxachusetts,

My head is spinning.  If I don't read this thread daily, the world passes me by and am left feeling uninformed and uneducated.

The "horror" stories from the boys in the warmer climates make me laugh.  I'm basking in the glory of a "balmy" near single digit morning while I read someone's plants in FLA got singed by the cold.  What plants?

Mine are all buried under a couple of feet of snow which sits on top of solid ice which carefully annihilates my landscaping.  Wife asked me last night to go out into the back yard and perform doggy poo patrol.  I invited  her out onto the deck, handed her the shovel, pointed out about 8,000 square feet of untouched whiteness, and then asked her to show me how to find the buried treasure.  My perceived sarcasm was not taken well, but I was still welcomed into my bed last night.  Someone has to be close by to hear the whining puppy at 3am and take him out for a pit stop.  And that would not be her.

Chief.......stiches for Lucy?  Try as I could, I couldn't find your post explaining what happened.

Kurt......re the bathroom your little ones turn into a waterpark at tubby time, it must be the demon seed, passed on from your wife's side of the family.  I can't wait until you start posting about the warped flooring and the disaster it has created one story below.  Take heart, when you get done repairing and replacing the stuff the kids did, you get a very brief respite before the grandchildren assume the destructive responsibilities.  I'm on my 3rd toilet repair since the granddaughter learned how to go to the ladies' room by herself.  Those plastic internal pull chains must be replaced with reinforced steel cable or something similar.

Dennis......glad to hear the reinforcement has been hired and paperwork is the final frontier to some relief.  I'd like to know how you can break your ribs just hanging over a church balcony railing.  Hope the view was worth it!  Were you filming something interesting at the time?

Chuck.....it is so good to read that your trips to the train room have resumed and that the stairs to your den of train iniquity are no longer serving as an impasse to the fun.

DougM.......hope you have a snowblower.  My FIL says the flakes just won't quit and his last natural gas bill was a shocker.  Did you ever get over to the park on your lunch break for some ice skating.

Rich......hope your daughter's ankle injury isn't interrupting the truly critical things in life, like after school extracurricular activities.  That was your daughter, wasn't it?  Funny how the kids can shake off those injuries, gut it out, and take the field, except when it comes to the schoolwork.

Buckeye......great pics, especially the canyon shot.  I'd have some great ones taken from the road up Mt. Washington in the White Mountains of NH, but I couldn't navigate the car on the "no guardrail" road and take pictures while my wife clung to me like super glue with her eyes held tightly shut.  The sheer dropoff was on her side of the car, and she must have thought the car would break in half and only her side would tumble over into the abyss.

I'm going now to look at all of the SPF and Christmas layout pics I missed since the first week of December.  Then I'm going to see if I can backtrack on Fife, DougM, Laz, RT, Roy, MikeC, DogDG, Don, Jet, JimSP, and Mitch posts.  I didn't miss too much from Chief because the size 24 font, bolding, and Reb ribbing was too good to pass up on the first skim.

Just left eye Dr.  Eyes dilated.  Can hardly focus computer screen.  At Town Hall as Dr.’s office is only one block away.  Think I will call Pam and tell her I can not do any vacuuming and etc due to dilated eyes.  Can only run trains upstairs in the dark. Whistling Sign - Oops  Getting new lenses for my frames [they kept but do not have to wear glasses anyway] with transitions, progressive bifocals, anti-glare and anti-scratch.  Also getting my sunglasses updated but only regular bifocals with Polarized lenses and anti-glare.  The extra antiglare helps you see in the water better.  See those fishes swimming.  Cost me more than two new command diesels. Shock

Rock, Lucy had the “female fixing” as she kept taking her diaper off.

Later

BTW: got those funny looking plastic sunglasses. Laugh
