doug... does "sound board" have another name? I'll check on it next trip.

phish... Lionel "O" only.

Chief, I know better than to ask but we've taken the "despite public opinion that the bride's parents pay, we're not paying" approach to things, otherwise the two of them will not save a cent. Let them think they're paying and then whatever I have by then will be theirs to do with what they wish. Hopefully they will have saved enough to pay for it themselves and our gift will be clear money.

Woke up agin today to rain, temps will not get out of the 50's and frost is expected tonight. Gee, just when I thought I could turn off the heat for good.

Plan on drawing layout ideas again tonight while my wife watches American Idol. Boy this plan is taking a long time. Kind of envious of SARpilot, layout up and running in days.

When our daughter got married we gave her the option, she was put on a budget of X number of dollars. Use it all for the wedding and have nothing to apply to a home or budget accordingly, I call it learning the value of money. Fortunately she has more of my spending habits Whistling [:-^] . They chose to spend about 20% on the wedding and the balance was saved for a down payment on a house, my son-in-law's parents decided that they would match so they had a nice little nestegg to start with.

Chief, do you still have the info available for mike on the sound board/stop ? My senility must be kicking in I can't remember who you said made it.

ezmike, SoundStop is by Celotex.

http://www.knightcelotex.com/pages/soundstop.aspx+Soundstop&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

Homasote is a paper fiber and Soundstop is a wood fiber. Soundstop is dusty [especially when sawed].  Can easily be sealed with laytex paint.  Do not paint before gluing and screwing down.  Heavy pinted edges are hard.  You can stand or kneel on it witout denting.  Works great as a sound deadning.  I put down three layers to be able to cut out rivers and etc.  I glued mine to fiberboard [was cheaper than plywood at that time].

I picked up Hush Board by Georgia pacific.  I believe it is similar to the soundboard.  1/2" thick, and $10/ 4'x8' sheet.  I recommend cutting it outdoors if possible.  Gives off a very fine dust.

Good Afternoon everyone.  SARPilot, didn't see where you were from, but if you are close to Rich in Jax then you are probably close to my neck of the woods in south GA.  Hope you are getting your answers to your questions...this is a great group here.  Many of us are former service, and our hats are off to all who serve.

Crazy type of day today.  I am on call and was to come in later this morning, but then one of the other guys had an appointment that he didn't tell anyone about.  Had to move things along.  I don't mind taking care of the work, just don't like suprises.  Anyway, should be an OK day.  Wife went home as she was feeling bad.  This crud just hangs around.

Have a going away party for one of our heart team nurses tonight.  She is going to the "LifeLink" folks.  They are the ones who go and get organs for donation/transplant.  I thought about getting her a copy of 6th Sense....I see dead people.  Decided against it as some may not share the humor.  Anyway, I hope everyone has a blessed day.

Hello Gentlemen:

Just a quick note to say Hello.  I haven't had any time to check out the forum as we have had a few things happen around the house that have kept me busy.  I started back at work yesterday and, other than not being able to sit for more than 30 minutes at a time, things seem to be going okay.  From what I have been able to read, it appears that the York meet was fun.  I am still upset that I was not able to attend.

Jack:  Thanks for the kind words.  I appreciate it.  I am sorry to hear about your pooch.  I hope it works out.

Brent:  Great pictures with Thomas!  We had a Thomas day at the Illinois Railway Musuem last year.  But unfortunately, little John would not go anywhere near Sir Topham (Sir Topham kind of freaked me out as well. Shock [:O])

Chief:  Welcome to the 21st century!  HD rules!  We are also big Tivo fans.  I like the caller ID popping up on your television.

RT:  Congratulations on things continuing to move forward.  Good luck getting to the finish line.

Regards,

John

Oh Boy !

The difference a day makes, yesterday 101* today 84*, Approve [^] .

Brown just came by and dropped off my newest acquisition to add to the stable, Chessie Trainman GP15. For what this cost, new out of the box, I couldn't have upgraded any of my existing non-TMCC locos for less. Put it on the tracks for a quick test, runs & sounds great. I may be wrong but it sounds identical to my SD35's. So far everything about this engine can be summed up in one word "Sweet", after it gets a little run time if the first impression stands I will definitely consider getting more Trainman loco's. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

John, Glad to see that you are up & about, remember not to push it to much.

Thanks Chief.

It has been chaos at Roger's Corners.  It snowed this morning, yes snowed.  Shock [:O]  A hail storm hit last night and the freeway was coated with ice.  Cars were banging and sliding around.

Gas is $3.65 this evening.  It was $3.39 this morning.  Banged Head [banghead] The oil companies made record first quarter profits.

Boy did Virginia take a whipping last night.  Those people in Suffolk don't have basements to hide in due to the high ground water.

The Chief made the news again in Roseyville.  It seems that there were some guys trying to steal some land and build a school, so he just up and gave the school his cattle pasture for the new school.  His pond is going to be the naditorium.  (That's a fancy name for a swimming pool.)

It is about time to clean out the Garden RR and turn on the waterfalls, if it doesn't snow.

Hey mike don't get down about being in the planning stage. Ive been planning this layout for 10 yrs. Its just now that I've had the room time and resourses as well as getting the kids out of the house that I've been able to start. So it really has taken more than a few days to get this far. When you look at it I think most of us have been planning our layout since we were kids and we were looking through the lionel catalogs. Just keep pluggin away and it will happen.

Kurt, Haven't tried it on 031 yet, had it running forward and reverse for about an hour on the ceiling track, 042, this afternoon to give it a little break-in time. The only thing I found was that the screws holding on the sideframes were all loose, fortunately they are easily accessable without having to tear anything apart.

It sounds like maybe the truck is not being allowed to move freely thru the arc of the turn. Have you pulled the shell to check if there is enough slack in the wires going to the motor or the electrocoupler ?

Been pretty busy lately but still make time to read the pot.  Usually while keeping one eye on the TV.  Watched Deal or Nodeal last night too.  The models didn't dress up as the stormtroopers.  Howie stated they did that so even the models wouldn't know how much the first contestant won during the second contestants game.

Been getting stuff ready for the neighbor garage sale in a couple weeks.  It is absolutely amazing how much "stuff" accumulates over the years.  And all of it was real important at on time.  Now its just in the way.  Its taking a while to type this during the commercials.  Nothing to report on the job front.  Maybe next week.  Yeah right!

Almost forgot, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the new folks.

We bought an Atlas Trainman GP-15 for our son as a Christmas present in 2006.  He had trouble with it on O-36 Fastrack curves.

Sorry I am so late today.  I was mowing the lawn and my back yard is a hill that goes down into trees with a lot of crappy wild rose bushes and stuff.  I was mowing along the back edge up to the trees, around and between the bushes, and noticed some clods of dirt with grass on them.  I turn around and someone dug a big hole in the hill, about 1.5 by 2 feet and a good foot deep.  It was done with a full size shovel, based on the cuts in the dirt, so I guess an adult or older boy did it.  If I had taken another step back, I would by laying on the hill with a broken leg!!!  I asked the neighbor to have his kids watch for anyone back there, since they play in the street and yard at the top of the hill.  My guess is that they might know who did this, but it could have been an adult during the day or something?  Who knows.  What a mess.  I am so mad!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Well had to sit up to see if I was going to Phoenix tmorrow (actually later this morning) but the San Antonio Spurs prevailed.  Now I'm in limbo for a while but we're thinking we'll go to LA.  I'll have some train time now.

 Morning all.

Kurt  I would have to say Doug hit the nail on the head.  My atlas gp had the same problem it derailed on 0-42 curves. The truck felt tight turning it side to side. The coupler and pickup wires were holding the truck from turning all the way. I pulled the shell and gave the truck some more slack. There was plenty of extra wire, it just wasnt pulled down through the cut out in the frame. Now it will make it through o-31 switches.

HI GIZ,

36 and cold here this morning.  To get to 60.  Took dog for a nice 4 mile run in woods yesterday after school.  Nice day out.

CHUCK, that Cub Cadet with zero turn radius, NICE.  Took about 10 minutes to get use to but after that was pretty easy.  Sort a like driving a dozer or a little cat loader.  Push forward on lever goes forward, pull back goes reverse. Pull leftside and push right side forward will turn on a dime.  Lots o fun.  Neighbor lady won't use it so I guess I'll be having fun on this all summer.

  B GOOD or B GONE,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool and sunny 40 degrees. No frost last night. Going up to 60 today, with some sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I am going to Cambridge to do the grocery shopping. Prices are still going up. Gas is at $3.60 a gallon, now.  Doesn't look like anyone is going to do anything about it. Less driving is the answer.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Wound up mowing the yard last night.  Another crisis for Lucas....again.  I will be so glad when he is out of high school.  Flunked last math test, averaging a very high F for the nine weeks due not to doing home work (or not getting credit for it, depending on who you believe), and may flunk the semester unless he turns it around.  Every time I think I can relax just a little, something fouls up the works.  I left him a note this morning with some instructions and ended it by asking if he wanted to be Robbie Gordon or Kenny Brack in the 1999 500.  (Gordon ran out of gas with two laps to go and Brack won for AJ that year).  I thought with the musical and the prom being over, I would have some quiet time for myself before the graduation....wrong!  Sorry for venting, but this is just one more exasperating moment with Lucas, and I am tired of it.

The dining car had English muffins and cereal on it this morning.  I hope everyone (especially me) has a good day (I could use one).

Keep on training,

MORNING ALL

Sunny 34 this AM. No freeze here as was the dire prediction, and only lite frost. Today is the day we are suppose to start getting warmer again.

Reg. gas is near the $3.60 area, I figure just a round trip to Toledo with my Ranger would cost about $40.00. with this kind of pricing, whats left of our economy is going to take one big dump. I still have not got to the train room to make some display changes, maybe I'm just not sure what I want to do yet. Oh well enjoy today and play nice,,,,S.J.

Hello...about 45 this AM, sunny bright & up to 80...so much for Global WarmingBanged Head [banghead]

Gas has run up to $3.60, wish the Prez would drill in ANWAR already...may wind up selling the Street Machine before it's even startedSigh [sigh]

Mike, it's ok, trust me I know how you feel.  If you didn't love 'em so much you'd just like to shoot 'em..Banged Head [banghead]

Looks like I'll be staying here at the "e", they caught wind of what was happening and made an offer "I couldn't refuse" (well, I could've....Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]).  I still have a standing offer at a dealership in St. Augustine.  The owner was impressed by the phone interview, he's keeping y name & number if he can't get who he wants.....who knows?

Been going to the train room just to soak it all in.  I think I did a great job with the shelving and storage, It looks more inviting and comfortable (just wish I had more room).  I'll try to post some this week.  Have softball practice tonight...I can feel the pain in the muscles now.

Don't let it get you down cheap classic,

My wife and I went through the same thing with my youngest daughter 2 yrs ago. Things don't always turn out the way you want or expect but they do work out. This daughter of mine failed her senior math class right before graduation. Had enough credits but not the GPA to graduate. She kept it a secret until two days before graduation. She only got a certificat of completion not a diploma. The kicker was that she had already signed a national letter of intent for a full ride scholarship to play softball at a nearby college. To avoid loosing her scholarship she took a make up class at a local junior college. She failed that also. Luckily her college coach arranged to have her make up the class while she was in school playing softball. After 1 semester of college she quit college and joined the US Marine Corps. What a knucklehead! I can't say that I'm not proud of her since I was a Marine Officer myself but I can't help but think how hard I had to scrimp and save to get a college education and she had it handed to her on a silver platter. WOW I guess I just vented too! Like I said, it don't always turn out like you expect or hope but it will work out. Hang in there!

Busy day, so quick stop over.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Wife is taking a turn for the worse in her crud.  Had to leave work early yesterday and took the first sick day today in over 3 years.

Ask a prayer request for a friend in spec ops who is heading to an undisclosed location for a mission of about a month.  Anyway, please lift him up and all our service folks in harm's way.

God Bless,

Morning all. Freakin' cold here again. I'm wearing a scarf and tomorrow's May! Brutus, glad you didn't fall into that hole. Maybe someone took out a tree - there's a lot of that here - stealing trees and bushes.  I would be  happy with anything wild growing on and about my lawn like those roses - the kids all pound everything into dust. I feel the disapproval of my retired neighbors who do such a good job with their green stuff. Ah well, rather have the kids around I guess ;)

Steve, that's an encouraging story. Mike and I have commiserated in the past about our teens - my daughter is spectacularly flunking her jr. yr. math class. She assures me she'll pass but I've taken to obsessively checking her grades online. This weekend's prom so her mind is completely gone to that.

There's new signage by our train station - kind of a Euro-look to the sign - looking down a track with an unmistakable F-unit's bulldog face looking back at you and a little man in front of a station. Guess it means get on a train here without using any words.

Prayers for your friend and your bride, Dennis.

Morning all! Another beautiful day here (sorry Doug) and headed to 82 again. Man was it nice yesterday!

Doug, Steve, and Mike - we can start a separate thread on teenagers Banged Head [banghead] and jr. high and high scholl exploits.

The only thing as aggravating as teenagers is people working on your house...Banged Head [banghead]

Doug - I have seen that train sign. I wonder if the average european person knows what an F7 is (our friends John B and Nick don't count Wink [;)]).

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Regards, Roy
