 Evening Folks,

Took the day off. Took the Mrs. out for Birthday and Christmas shopping. We had a nice lunch out. Hope the weather cooperates,  we don't need any snohizo or temps like Doug Murphy or Jonadel are seeing.  Been busy the last two days helping son format tables of data for his thesis.  As always it is up to the last minute and he is not finished.  Please say some prayers for him.  He is stressed to the max with this thesis and his new job.

Decided against making train table for my nephew as we don't have any way of getting it to his house.  He will get track, engines, cars and transformer.  Neither of our vehicles is big enough and it is too cold and nasty to drive 1.5 hours with the hatch open in my wife's CRV. Perhaps my Dad or my BIL can build something. I had sketched up a simple table to sit on top of a foosball table.

Tomorrow night is a concert at school, so that's another late night. Be glad for the break.

Mitch

Well, I found out last Thursday morning that I've just joined the ranks of the unemployed! They actually had me drive all the way in to work to tell me I was laid off.....cost more than I earned to dirive there! Don't know if it's good or bad but the previous week I just bought a 44" wide printer...figuring it would be awesome to print custom train backdrops. I don't think I would have made the purchase this week! Looks like I will have to concentrate big time on the photo and video business.

Hope everyone else had a better week! :)

Hello folks:

I was at a dinner this evening and the chap oposite me mentioned that he had this old Lionel American Flyer Blue loco and needed what sounded to be like a power pack (OK, confession time I'm in N scale & dcc, so I'm groping here LOL). Also he needed a new / reconditioned motor for it. He wants to set the train up for his grandchildren (for Christmas, but I guess there may not be enough time for that...who knows.)

If anyone is able to help out with sources and / or advice, please email me, and I could get you in touch with him directly.  I'll also give him the url here so he can drop by himself if so inclined.

Many thanks.

Evening.  Mayors' Christmas Party is over.  Great food and fun.  We have one Town Commissioner whose wife always frowns.  Partly because she thinks her hubby should be Mayor [Mayor material he is NOT] and can't stand it.  The rest is just mean.  Whistling  No one wants to be around her.

Jon, stay warm and hope you keep electrical.

Buckeye, good work on switch thing.  OGR guys are getting an education on this subject.

Had a thing I'd as a spyware.  Was not exactly a spyware nor a virus.  IDed as Vundo.  CA did not catch it.  Must have been widespread as suddenly this AM, CA sent patch and deleted it.  Did not clear it out of registry.  Time Warner guy pesonally walked me through removing it.  Got it out.  Came home tonight and it had tried to hit me again but CA deleted it.  Not in registry as I can tell.  I am now thinking it is trying to slip in through Facebook.  Not answering anymore Facebooks.  We'll see.  Vince [TW guy] will be back to work tomorrow at 10 AM.  Sent him another email of what tired to happen.  What it did was tried to over ride your sign on to the internet.  My computer blocked it and I had to sign on again.  Anoying.  Watch out for it.  If it gets in registry, it is junefare.dll.

No popcorn tonight as too full.  Busy day tomorrow.  Dr's apt about skin cancer on hand at 11:10, Dr's apt about cold at 11:45 [offices close to each other] and back to Roseyville for 1:30 with water treatment plant people ending with Public Hearing on ETJ extension at 4 till 6.

Good night.  Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Well the rain lasted until about 11:00 am here resulting in 2 inches, and then there were some minor scattered showers through the rest of the day.  The clouds were moving quick, and very cold.  Probably mid 50's.  Traffic was a bear!  Some area evacuations took place in the fire swept areas.  Im not aware of any mudslides yet.  I did get a couple of pictures of the river that borders our back yard.  We are located in LA county and the otherside of the river is Orange county.

The fiberglass in the foreground is our back fence.  The top berm on our side also serves as a bike path.  So added the fiberglass for privacy.  The riverbed is a trapezoid, and the base is about 250' across, the water level is between 10-12 feet.

As you can see there are white caps, due to the rapid current.  I have seen it as high as 1 or 2 feet from the top.  I always keep on I on it, but it has a 3-4 trickle running thru it 350 days.  The other thing that is strange thing is we are NOT considered a high risk flood area.  My inlaws live about 10 miles away and no rivers nearby, but they ARE in a high risk area.  (50 year flood)

Later

Morning all!

Busy, busy, busy...

Don:  Riverfront property!  Glad you guys are safe.

Doug:  I owe you a call on your LEDs...Not sure when...

Neighbor brought over his Lionel 242 he's had since his younger days...He wanted to put it under the tree, said it wouldn't run right...It still looked new!  Cleaned, oiled, Badda, Bing... I threw in an oval of Fastrack, and he's off to the races!  His Bride stopped by, later...In my haste I shorted a few curves.  (I was preparing for company)  So She thinks He needs to start on the trains as a hobby, and wants to buy some for Christmas.  I did the dog and pony show for her, with the cab-1.  I may have a new partner in crime.  Turns-out her Father was a C&O man for 30 years.

Barely survived the weekend, and so it continues...Date night last night, Pre-School Christmas program tonight, Wednesday, last Dress Rehersal for Church program, Thursday off, (yeh) and Friday and Saturday Christmas program shows.  Christmas + Birthdays, make for a busy season.

Good morning all,

It is supposed to be absolutely miserable here in SE Indiana today, but it was supposed to be like that yesterday and it wasn't so I am hoping lightning strikes twice.  I did some Christmas shopping yesterday and maybe some today.  I did not do a whole lot last night.  Wife and I did watch "Antiques Roadshow".  It showed highlights of people who resecued "stuff" from the trash bin that was worth a ton of money.  One item was a Lionel Mickey Mouse windup circus set with original box and tent in pretty good shape.  The analyst said it could go for $10,000 to $ 15,000 at an auction.  I need to start going to the YMCA again.  As much as I hate it, I need to be there.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all.  Warm [real warm], foggy and cloudy.  Suppoe to nose dive and drop to 40 by afternoon and rain.  Then bounce back up tomorrow.  Busy day with Dr's apts and meetings.

Underworld, sorry I missed your misfortune.  Not a good thing anytime but this time of the year.  Maybe I need to send you my back drop needs.  Been putting it off as they can be expensive.

Mike - you and me both.

Underworld - hang tight, prayers for you to get back to work.  Sounds like a neat little side business if you can get it going, custom backdrops....

Kurt & Doug - I'm off with the kids today due to snow Big Smile  Might try to call later.  Laz - are you working today?

Had nice chats with Sir James and RT last night - two fine gentlemen Thumbs Up

Don - my in-laws had a similar set up when they lived in Texas, but it wasn't a canal, just a big retaining pond.  It overflowed frequently!  This was in Pearland - always liked the name of that area.  They had some interesting stuff around there like donuts with sausage inside, never heard of that before.

Chief - have fun with the doctors.  Wow - 40 degrees, how can you stand it? Laugh

Good Late morning everyone!  Underworld, sorry to hear of your misfortune.  I think there will be a lot of that going on these next couple of years.  I too may have some backdrop needs, gotta figure out how I want to do the back section.

Chief, good luck at the doctors.

I will be attending the funeral today and then the bride and I have some work at the house.  I need to wire some houses on the Christmas layout so the wife will be happy.  Have a bunch of her kin coming this way.  Will be frying a turkey this weekend and again next week for Christmas.  Also will be doing one on Monday for one of the RNFAs who lives alone...will give him something to eat over the next week.

Read an interesting story a few days ago about a bank that gave all it's employees $1000.00 and each was told to "Pay it forward".  The stories of how they impacted so many lives was inspiring.  We do similar, but through the church, so God gets the glory.  It falls under the geise of better to give than receive.  I have also noticed that it is often those who give out of their poverty who give the most.

God Bless,

dennis

Quick check-in.

Fife:  I think I found something you might be interested in.  Mini Whinnies, by Breyer.  Various horses in various poses.  Very close to O-scale, and nicely done.  I found them at Target, a six pack for $4 & change, but available in a lot of places if you google them.

Here's the site URL.  Scroll down a bit to see them.

Chief,

The e-mail with the 2nd ammendnet thing was flagged by my McAfee as possibly having some funny content embedded within it.

My Time Warner Expert says through websites and not emails.  He is not sure of Facebook.  Could have been CTT.  I know several years ago Norton use to block CTT for 60 mintues every so often as someone in WI was trying to hit my computer through CTT's computer.  Interesting.  It would even give me the address of the "bad person".

Underworld.....I have been in your situation three times including once being asked to drive from Columbus, Ohio to Indianapolis the Friday before Labor Day Weekend for them to tell me, "The company is going in a different direction and we're afraid that you are not part of our new plan."   I then drove back to Columbus in shock.

Doug--it is our fault for your lousy weather and here's more good news for you-----it's going to get worse!  I just plowed off 4" of snow and when I quit it was almost like lite rain but how can that be?  we are in single digit temps right now.  It's actually my brother's fault---he lives in Nebraska and is just passing along the joy Smile

I leave tomorrow morning for Cedar Falls to take care of the princess for 3 days as her parents are off to your town for a national convention.  Travel is supposed to be good tomorrow but Thursday sounds awful--snow and freezing rain.  I anticipate lots of Dora The Explorer DVD's and many, many books.  I love reading to her as do her parents.

We did have a Jotul wood burning insert installed yesterday, I can't tell you how good it feels.  I'm sitting at the computer about 6 feet away with the fan on low,  very relaxing, good for the old bones.  Hoping also for a reduction w/heating bills, cutting/splitting/stacking/burning that wood has resulted in several times of heat.  I sure hope we can share some of our winter joy with that rascal in NC Thumbs Up

Well, for my day off, I goofed off all morning watching the new Batman movie - good!  Then, got a call from work and ended up on the phone with that mess for about an hour Banged Head  No highsigns this morning and was tired of talking (arguing) on the phone, so then I just made labels and covers for dvds I've burned from tv for the past few months.  I've been making dvds of the old New Yankee Workshop episodes and also some movies on TMC and other chanels -- ones nobody will probably ever put out on dvd in my lifetime, lol!  I find pictures of the old posters and put them on the covers - look pretty good actually.  I got a dvd recorder (like a vhs type machine) for father's day a couple years ago.  Wife picked up White Castles for dinner and now we're watching the last part of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Laz - I think a couple Old Mills would be great, I'll be over in a minute or two.

RT - that brownie/cheesecake thing looks really great!

Folks, I'll trade you up to 10 inches of snow for this freezing rain.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

For all of you poor unfortunate Southerners and West coasters I thought I would post a few pictures to show you what it looks like.

The first two were taken from our back porch, the second two from the front porch looking over our Son's small farm.  Just noticed I caught the neighbor checking his mail box.  These were taken about 3 PM today.  This is actually our second snow of the season.  Driving during the rush did not look to be fun.  Jean brought her car home at noon and I took her back to the office.  She got a ride home with the boss (our son).  It sure is nice to be retired and not have to got out on the roads in this stuff.
