Sounds like a nice journey, Mel. The Silver Meteor is never early.

More project work. Making the bobber caboose that came with the Thomas freight set more of a brake van: cut off the cupola, gradually widened its space so I could glue the roof right in. Took off the end ladders. It rolled off the bench and broke a coupler. Rats.

Building a lattice to hold up the roof on the Downtown Deco 'burger stand. It's far too small. I must've put the walls wrong. Intend to paint it some eve after the youngest is abed as I'll be using 'his' paints. Wink [;)]

Well, Ive been checking in on the pot every now and then, but figured Id start posting in 2008.  I would like to start out by saying Happy New Year!!!

Its sad to hear about the drunk driving.  Such a senseless act of stupidity.  There is always another option.  Hope everyone else got home safely.

After a fun night with friends I am enjoying some good old college football.  Hoping the big ten wins some games this bowl season...especially the BUCKEYES!

Happy New Year from Jacksonville,(South Georgia). Left Jax on 12/26 on The Silver Star. Left the Big Apple yesterday afternoon at 3:20 on The Silver Meteor. A couple of in compartment Harvey Wall Bangers, a bottle of Chardonay wine with dinner. Back to compartment and slept off and on until Hamlet, NC, at 11:50 PM. Popped the cork on a bottle of Sparkly, sang Auld Lang Syne with Madge (my wife) and a couple of other folks in the car and went back to bed. CSX wasn't running any freights so our only waits were for Northbound Amtrak trains and longer than usual station stops as we were early everywhere South of DC. Arrived in Jacksonville at 9:02 today, almost a half hour early!! The roadbed and speed beat us to death in our beds. Finally finished reading the last 10 pages of the "old pot" and the first 3 of the new one.

Thanks, Chief for starting the pot years ago and continuing it on. Best wishes and prayers to all for a new (and perhaps better) 2008. Eight things I ordered from the Vol. 2 catalog have been shipped. Just need to wait for LHS supplier to ship them and my 2008 budget goes to blazes before I can even get it started!!

65 this afternoon but hard freezes ( low 30's and 20's) coming up.

Happy New Year All! Yeah!! [yeah]

Well we survived NYE with teenagers out and about. Dead [xx(] At least they are all accounted for although the wife and I are just a bit worse for wear. I didn't let my daughter drive herself around last night and luckily for me she did not make an argument out of it.

New Year's Day football is interesting. As soon as a parade or bowl game ends the network immediately cuts back to Judge Judy (or whatever).

Good to see all the vistors to the New C'Pot today!

Well, Happy B-Day [bday]Happy B-Day [bday] edw and Happy B-Day [bday]Happy B-Day [bday] LAZ.  BTW: LAZ is a woodworking shop teacher in PA.  Now when it comes to math, he does pretty good with his fingers.  Toes are a problem.  School system now requires teachers to wear shoes in PA. Happy Birthday, Laz. Hey, you haven't been "Photoshopping" your avatar have you? You're looking awfully well-preserved for a man of your advanced years. Laugh [(-D]

By the way, if you haven't already seen it, check out the article in the January issue of American Woodworker, which tells how a Math teacher re-introduced woodworking shop classes in a California high school, after they had been discontinued years earlier. The math teacher, who had some previous woodworking experience, realized that taking shop classes was a great way to help kids improve their math skills. Great story.

Happy New Year to All! Been mostly a lurker, but thought I'd stop for some coffee today. Fixed Pork and Sauerkraut in the crockpot for the wife before she went to work last night, IT was YUMMY. She's an RN, interesting night at the hospital, mostly young people that where liquored up.

Happy New Year and esp Happy Birthday to Baby New Year!  Hope Eon doesn't get you, Laz(Gold Medal to any who can identify that tv show)!  Happy birthday, Good Friend!

My Coveted Award is now gleaming in the window for all to see!  Thanks Chief and a Big Thanks to Bob too for another Pot to keep us going to 2009!

We had a nice evening at some friends' house, got home and got the kids to bed about 12:45.  I wanted to get online, but wife said if I did I'd be on here until 3 AM or something.  So, I nipped over to Sir James for some phish icecream (try it - really good from Ben and Jerrys!) and didn't wake up until after 9 AM!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for the award Chief. I have decided that I will not be going to my cousins today because I have a bit of pain, even more than 2 days after the surgery.

Buckeye I just woke up so I have not turned on the news yet. I'm really hoping that I don't hear anything bad, specifiically about drunk driving.

Have a good day everyone, and again HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!

Good morning!!! I guess that is the time now.  What a great evening in Columbus where our NHL Team the Blue Jackets (has a nice Northern ring) beat some team from Canada.  Our star player Rich Nash scored a hat trick (3 goals by one player) and the crowd went wild.  After the game the crowd, hat-less, hit the streets of Columbus.

Of course this morning we awake to tragedy where the drunk driver has killed.  Warning to all who drive drunk and kill: You better hope that Buckeye Riveter is never on your jury, because I would show no mercy on you during the sentencing portion of your trial.

Wes...We we need to add Buckeye Jim from Portsmouth to our lunch/meeting plans after I get my money.  $$$$$$ Maybe CSXect will join us on High Street for a bit of barbeque or burrito.   Buckeye Jim, we need a date and time that you will be in the big city.

Chuck...Start packing your bags for the Great American Toy Train Tour of 2008.

LAZ... Happy B-Day [bday] You are only 40 years younger than the Chief.

and of course,

Morning from a snowy and very cold Crystal Lake where it is probably the only day of the year where the snowblowers are not out before 6 am, and I am placing my Major Award from the Chief in the front hall window. Happy New Year to a bunch I consider true friends. Thanks for your fellowship and help with my layout questions.
