Tonight's the night.  I get lucky tonight.  My phone will stop ringing (11 calls yesterday), tomorrow will dawn clear and warm.  The caucus will be over, there will be a log jam at the airport, 2000 rental cars returned to one location.  The cows will come home, the pigs will be safe from politicians and the temps will go above 32.  It's a Wonderful World.  Trains will be running, bells will be clanging and we'll all give a big collective sigh.  No longer will we have to listen to back to back to back to back political commercials--some from the same candidate.

It will be a New Year celebrationCool [8D]

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the teens most of the day.  It is supposed in the 40s this weekend and near 60 next week.  I love global warming.  I watched part of a semi-free video sent by Kalmbach from their Trains division.  It was good, but I was watching it too late and fell asleep in the chair.  Anybody from the forum going to the Great Train Show at the Indy fairgrounds this weekend?  Welcome to the 'pot, Northwood Flyer!  It is good to see some American Flyer enthusiasts here as well because they usually do not get caught up in the MTH/Lionel "discussions" that some time occur.  We had a pleasant surprise last night as my younger daughter and her family stopped in on the way home to Bloomington.  I ran the Polar Express for the grandson, and he seemed to enjoy it.  Yesterday was a bittersweet one for the sister-in-law's family as they sent one of their sons off to Iraq.  He will be in Georgia for two months' training and then to the "sandbox".  I know we pray for the safety for all our servicemen and servicewomen, but I would appreciate a few extra for the nephew.  I told him to always duck.  Thanks in advance.  We had a little extra on the dining car this morning from "Points East".  It was the usual fare, but a little more of it.  I am trying to cut down on between meal snacking so I am stocking up a little more in the morning to see if it helps.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 9 degrees. Going up to 25 today, with cloudy skies.

Today is grocery shopping day. Yuk. Gas prices have gone over 3 dollars a gallon. $3.09. That means that all prices will start to rise again.

No time for trains today. Busy day.

Five ( 5 ) Stars look good.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Good morning from a frigid New England!

All of 3 degrees here this morning. But a warm up is due to arrive tomorrow and on through the weekend.

Tired this morning. Ran trains and watched tv well into the night. But I enjoyed myself. Will catch up on my sleep over the weekend. Oh, wait a minute, I have 3 little kids who wake me up at 5 am...They remind me of little prairie dogs the way they poke their heads in the room to see if I'm awake!

Welcome Northwoods Flyer!

Don:  OOooooo Shiny!  I'm thinking an espresso car for the PE!  Nice addition.  Are scones now available in the dining car with the espresso, or is the new machine just for after dinner?

Jumijo:  I almost clicked the top too.

Time to dig out the regular train table.  Covered in boxes from Christmas train stuff.  Mybe some re-design.

Evening all !

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Northwoods Flyer !!  Now you know with a name like that you will be expected to post some pics real SOON !  Since you are familiar with the "POT", I don't need to inform you not to take too many of the posts here seriously.  Occassionally there are some accurate and informative posts also.  (I noticed one today about SNOW in North Caralina).

Regarding the picture in the signature.  You usually need to have 2,000 post points before you get the code.  (But, I will let in on the secret, just don't tell anyone how you found out.)   After you select your picture post it on a website some where. I use http://www.shutterfly.com/  it is free, and the pics stay there.  Then simply enter a link to that picture.  To do that, once it is saved to a location, select picture, then "right" click on it, select properties, then hightlight the picture information and copy it to the signature area.  You will need to enter "picture information here and presto its done.

Doug (other So. Cal award winner), I will be coming down to visit the Kids Club on the 26th.  With the weather forecast for the weekend, I would suggest you stay away from the beaches this weekend.  I'm sure the TJ river will be flowing fast.  Or was it Blacks Beach you hang out at??  Whistling [:-^]

Since the Pot has such a high distinguished rating, probably the highest one I've see for any thread,  (including previous pots).  I think it is appropriate that the "fare" be adjusted.  As all "5 Star" establishments offer an upper crust menu, I have made arrangements to add some equipment.

YES, ESPRESSO !!!!!

Now for you that may have "forgot" how to blend a pot, are the instructions.

How to make espresso in a macchinetta:

  • Fill the bottom chamber with cold water up to the steam release valve (overpressure plug).
  • Insert the funnel filter (cone) and fill it with espresso-ground coffee, smoothing it without tamping.
  • Make sure the flat round filter plate and the rubber gasket are in place underneath the central column of the upper part of the macchinetta.
  • Screw the top on, but not too hard.
  • Put it on the stovetop with enough heat to cover the bottom, but not so that it heats the handle.
  • When you hear the macchinetta gurgling, remove it from the heat and allow it to sit for 30 seconds.
  • Use a spoon to stir the coffee, then serve. May serve with favorite food, "Grits"
Enjoy !

Greetings,

I have been following this forum for some time now and finally decided to join. This will be my first post.  I think I have figured out how to post an avatar, but I don't seem to be able to post a picture in the signature section.  I have not been able to find the information in the Faq section.  So, can any one clue me in as to how to do it?

If I mess this up, be nice to the newbie.

 Thanks in advance,

Greg

Good evening guys,

Watching the WV /Oklahoma game and it looks like WV has it wraped up.  They played a good game, great defence.

Put my christmas train in plastic container under the layout, learning from Chief. Smile [:)]

Took the crusader off the layout.  Now have some space to work on scenery on the unfinished part.  Then can finish catenary.

Morning is going to come way to soon for this old boy, so off to bed.

I think Brent is right.  Lots of secrecy on this one.  The guy [Mark R] that is advising on the OGR TMCC TMCC II section was one of the software engineers for the contractor that did Legacy.  Bet there is a big clause in their contract.

Grayson,
I don't think Lionel will be releasing Legacy to other companies. They did this with TMCC and a certain company got them and then incorporated TMCC control into their system then locked their system down so no one could take advantage of their system... Hence all the secrecy and delays to Legacy - they wanted to keep it quiet concerning features AND they wanted to get it right out of the starting blocks (something that they didn't do with TMCC and MTH didn't do with DCS).

Legacy is doing fine. Still waiting for my SC-2 to come in so I can test my switches. My layout is starting soon. Getting the final deminsions so me and my daddy can build it. (YES, I say daddy! Its a country thing! Laugh [(-D] Wink [;)] ) I will post plenty of photos during the construction. I plan to have 3 mainlines in a 15x14' space.

All have a good night. Got to get to bed for school tomorrow.

P.S. I wonder when TAS or Digital Dynamics is going to come out with Legacy boards? Or if they will? Whistling [:-^]

Manamanah--

I bought the Lionel Thomas set just before Thanksgiving for our now 20 month old granddaughter and she absolutely loves it.  She found that the passenger car roofs come off and she loves to put her "people" in there and give them rides.  It's a simple oval in the dining room but she just loves it and we do to, I found the set on sale and we've already received more joy from it than I thought we would.  Money well spent.

Hello,
My youngest, Paul (2yrs) is a Thomas junkie. After reading the Sodar R/R comments, I’ll have to put a bit more pressure on the missus and invest in one although she thinks he’s fine with his plastic push around. She says I really want more trains for myself, not the boys! The nerve of her. We do enjoy our trains a lot, probably the best family hobby we found. Joe (11) likes bench building and wiring; he even built a good-looking operating sawmill from card stock and odds and ends. Patrick (9) enjoys making scenery and we all enjoy running the trains.

Evening all

Busy day at work; lost some recirculating hot water pumps and the lines froze and busted above a 480 volt substation.  Exciting!

I can identify with the garage storage issue.  My existing garage is 28 x 24 and the addition is 30 x 20.  The addition is primarily for my truck.  One of the great space savers is I have a Shopsmith 520.  It is a lot of tools in a fairly small footprint.  Table saw, lathe, drill press, boring machine, planer, sander, and joiner all in one.

Got some snow but very cold out.  Stay warm

May God bless

Cold but no snow - looks like it will warm up by the weekend when my son has a nother basketball game.  He's had 3 practices and 4 games (2 double headers).  They are completely defeated (opposite of undefeated).  I really feel sorry for these boys, but that's it and I can't coach as they have practice before I get off work (when they have it).  Plus, I can't turn down OT, if we ever get it again....  I think all the COLA's went through so you guys on Social should be getting a letter.  I think we get a 2.99 percent raise at work this year - not bad at all!  My wife did better than that, but she's not a GS employee, she's Pay Banded.

5 Stars for you Chief and all Da Giz and Galz!  I think we forgot Misty who was making a desert landscape for her son?  Since Miss Lisa got the Queen Award, maybe Misty should get the Co-Queen award?  I've rated a few of these threads, but it's cool to know you can see who did it and what they voted.

We have leftover cornbread for anyone who wants it - you can nuke it and put on some butter or honey!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Kurt

No sour grapes here. Honestly, my intent was to rate it with 5 stars, as I thought it would be a nice, friendly gesture for the new year. But as luck would have it, I clicked the first choice before looking close enough. I then blurted out a word that begins with "S". Why is Terrible the first choice at the top? Why isn't Excellent the first choice? I went back and clicked on 5 stars, but it didn't change. So here's 5 thumbs up instead. Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]. I humbly and sincerely apologize to the Chief! I enjoy the coffee pot thread as well as anyone. If Bergie or Bob can wipe off my vote, I'll be happy to re-rate it.
