IIABSDISEI with temps in the 30s. It has been an interesting time since I last posted. My wife and I went to Chili's last night for supper. The food was good, but the service was slow. We went shopping afterwards and got some shoes and some shirts. It was a nice evening. I went over to my dad's today to watch the end of the 24 hour race. I see Ganassi won another one. I went to the YMCA to try out the new tennis shoes. They were good. I wasn't. I ran the 318E on the back porch layout, and I saw the segement on the Blue Comet on Antiques Roadshow. It was fairly accurate, but I kept thinking she pronounced Cowen incorrectly. It was a good day. Also, there were bacon and biscuits on the dining car this morning from "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.

Not to bad of a day here got to 35. Had a nice easy 6 miler, no problems. Came home ran trains for a while did laundry. Wife always shrinks my stuff, so I think it was a ploy on her part to get out of laundry doing. Took dog for walk saw 8 deer all running away from us dog to off then got tired of the chase. Going down to run some trains now.
ROY, passed on the Mikado, oh well maybe Lionel will come out with the Lagacy version?

Afternoon all!
Been going to a new to us Church for about 4-weeks, and did new attender lunch today...Looks like a fit. We'll pursue membership next! Congregation run church, with plans, and staff organized for growth.
All appliances in order! Glad that's over. Had a friend install wireless internet access. Bought a hard drive for the laptop, the old is failing. Ran trains this am for an hour. Bride is happy with the Christmas layout...she thinks we need more Dept 56 houses! Ok...ok... I'll look into it.

Bummed. Fox sports had Daytona Rolex 24 hr start yesterday and said they would have coverage of the finish today, but the jerky local Fox channel run infomercials instead.
Nice day here. Predicted for 70 degrees, but only made it to 58. Heavy fog until 10 am this morning. Very rare to have a fog event like that here.
Spent part of the morning with my daughter cleaning off all the shoe polish on the windows from the last several times her car has been "hit" by her friends. Never knew there would be a benefit to that.

Had class yesterday, the Catholic History in America is going to be interesting I think. It will have a final paper, bleh.
Went to early and late Mass then came home and worked around in in the garage on the truck. I think the interior dome lamp switch went bad and has been draining my batteries. I pulled the fuse for that circuit to narrow the choices. We will see. It is so nice to be inside working even though it was beautiful out today.

Good idea to replace all the traction tires if there is any question about their condition. I said measure the diameter of the tire when what I meant was the driving wheel.

Boy, didn"t think filing our federal taxes would be so expensive. First, there is the software, $19.95 (minus 12% for coupon + sales tax). Then to E-file its another $19.95 (H&R Block must be hurting as there is no longer a rebate for the first filing fee). Wanted to print the return to look it over before E-filing and discovered printer was out of ink. Run to K-Mart for printer ink, dang, over $40.00 for new cartridges. What a racket, IIRC I actually paid less than that for the printer and it came with ink cartridges. If you add in the cost for the computer and internet service. Seems like the taxpayer does all the work and still gets short end of stick.
I have used TaxCut software since it first came out. I buy the Premium Federal version so I can E-file the federal return. Ohio has a web site where you can do the state taxes on-line so I can't see paying for the Ohio state return software and paying again to E-file through H&R Block. Thought about giving TaxAct a try this year but decided to stick with TaxCut for at least another year. Anyone here have experience with TaxAct?
We will get some money back and it would be nice to buy something train related but most likely will go for some home improvements instead. Looking at replacing a set of French doors that are starting to deteriorate. First quote was bit more than expected.
Speaking of train related, anyone planning to go to the train show at the Ohio Expo center next month? I thought it was this coming weekend but it is weekend of the Feb 9/10. We plan to go to Columbus this weekend to see family and thought we could make it a "two fer."
Would suggest car pooling to the train show if possible, costs $5.00 to park. Found this out a couple weekends ago when Karen and I went to the Woodworking show. Spouses are free at the WW shows. Seven dollars per person for the train show and with parking would need to find some real bargain(s) to make it worth another trip to Columbus.

Great to hear that the wives are feeling better. Hope the Chief got some sleep with the kids running around, probably happy to go to work today. Went to to the Kids Club in San Diego, good ol Doug dagrump, was down there with the kids, just having a great time. My hat is off to all the guys at the club and what they have done. Talk about a diverse and well organized program, they are on top of it!! It was like a Christmas morning with all the excitment. It was very obvious that the club members working, were really enjoying it, and were having a good time. Some interesting items, some kids come 120 miles to be involved. They had 2 sessions yesterday, the second session was new, and for some new people that had been on a waiting list for as long as 6 months! It seems that once the kids start they don't want to leave. It was also interesting to watch how some of parents were enviously watching the kids scrambling around the floor layouts!! Again, a GREAT program and my Hats OFF to Doug and his Club !!!!!
Supposed to work today at an outside show, but that isn't happening. Rain is just to heavy. Some areas getting as much as 8 to 10" within 24 hrs, mostly in the foothills, and burn areas. Many areas under voluntary evacuation this morning. It is now forecasted that we will see the sun on Thursday. Unfortunately, we now have another disaster threat to add to our list. And that is Avalanche. Four people were buried and only 1 has survived.

I will be going to a train show soon, all these shows sound good for those who don't have this many and I like going, but we do see the same faces with the same stuff all over the place. We use to include Toledo shows but the state made all table sellers get a venders sales tax license so now when you make an offer you will hear"I can't lower the price got to pay sales tax". So I just remembered that I asked about traction tires for the Allegheny, thanks GregM and Buckeye. GregM how do I check the diameter? I don't have a set of calipers here. Checked the other 3 that are still on, and they are dry rotted, so I need 4 not one... Sent email to Dean at the train doctor.Put the 491 Yellowbelly on the track this morning, along with her 7 running mates... looks awesome. She had some problems across a couple switches, so I drilled holes, dropped power lines, and connected them to the Z1000, now no problems. So now the plan is to drop power lines before and after each switch, and then install insulating clips between the switches between the mainlines, the switch leading up to the second level, the switch leading into the yard, on each yard spur, and on the reversing loop inside mainline 2. In all that is 22 power drops. Next step is determining where to isolate the rails so I can run multiple trains on each main line if necessary (when reversing to go to level two, or when bringing a train from level 2 to level 1). Once that is done I'll get the ceiling tiles so I can start installing the sound barrier. Then it will be on to laying out level two so I can determine where the terrain features will be located (river, stream, water fall, mountains, tunnels, etc). I almost forgot how much fun this is!

Had a family get together yesterday and saw my grandpa who, along with my father, was why I am into trains. He sold his HO years ago and hasnt been into the hobby since. I spent the whole time yesterday trying to get him to get some flyer and/or build a coffee table n scale layout.
Today I am going to get some breakfast with friends and then talk my dad into taking a trip to the hobby shop that is closing for one last look.

It is 31 degrees. Cloudy. Going up to only 33 today, with no snow. We got a little snow last night, but nothing serious.
Today is a relaxing day. Usual chores and then I will run trains, later. Ran them about 3 hours, yesterday. Did some scenery work. Trying to figure out how I want to place some buildings.

Got ERNI fixed. did a general upgrade 5G processor, 5G HD, 4G graphics etc. top of the bill, keeping clear of Vista though, the lad says this machine will do great with Vista, appears that it is too much for your average run of the mill pooter, MS are quiet on that one!!
Black as your Grandfathers here in a vv cloudy Stockport 10degC and dry, white stuff forecast for mid week, Lionel running OK! I find I can get another 6x10" FasTrack straights in and then it will have to be benchwork as space in the lounge is now used up and I find scrabbling around on the floor a trial.

Sounds like the Chief is in "hell" snowed up in the Holiday Inn. Have you guys called in the rescue chopper yet?. Head for the bar Chief maybe the kids can't get in.
Lad has a friend over today so maybe will run some trains...if they get bored of the Xbox 360.

John, you got it! I DONUT want to make you hungry! Glad your wife is feeling better too. In the past few years, a lot of older computer equipment has been purposefully obsoleted by the manufacturers including WIndows 98 and Windows ME - my friend was trying to reinstall an old computer and the SRPs are not available for download from MS anymore, only 3rd party versions. You'd think they would leave the old stuff out there, even if they stop upgrading the security etc on a particular OS.

10:44 PM in chilly (49 degrees) Florida. Time to go to bed. Trip to New York City and back-December 26-January 1; Jax to Indianapolis and back-January 10-January 18; Fly(ugh) out of Jax at 6:00 AM tomorrow to Pittsburgh, drive to Girard, PA outside of Erie for a funeral of one of my closest freinds from High School and drive back to Pittsburg and fly home Pittsburgh to Jacksonville Monday evening. I hope I don't have to do any more traveling for a while. Did pick up the Great Northern RR Art and 1948 Catalog Art box cars at The Train Works last Wednesday. Still waiting for my Legacy set and then have to decide whether it goes in the dining room or the train room.

Snow flurries here in Tidewater, but no accumulation.
Fife - Yes, Roanoke is an amazing place to spend a few days. We found a great place to park where we could watch the trains coming in from up north plus watch the cars coming down off of the hump. Seems like a good place for someone to model, if you have a LOT of room. All of the talk about doughnuts reminds me of Hagelsteins bakery on Woodward in Royal Oak. Any of the Detroit folks know it they are still there? They were probably a heart attack wrapped around a hole, but man were they good....
Laz - The SD-40 sounds nice, especially since it's NS. Have to pick one up eventually.

Getting snow flurries now no big deal. Ran my MTHs tonite all ran great NO PROBLEMS or NO PILE UPS. Lots o smoke. Did some work on layout, planted trees today all pines need more. Started to do some ballast, last section but then said nope not today. Maybe tomorrow.
Went to church then out to eat with wife and bro and SIL. Great meal, CHESSEPEAK CHICKEN. Chicken *** stuffed with crab meat and marinarrow suace with baby shrimp in it. EMM GOOD.

Chief, I hope I am never lucky enough to pick that hotel by accident. And yes a lot of todays parents are not. They just turn them lose in hotels and restaurants and ignore them.
Happy to say that my wife is doing much better today, must have been the 24 hour virus.
Mitch, Keep us informed on the new car. If you have a long commute it should be a good buy for you. I drive my PU less than 5K a year so gas is not a major concern for me.
I spent the afternoon helping out some senior citizens (my age) with computer problems. Got everything working except the sound card. The machine they were given did not have a sound card to I pulled one out of my junk box only to find that I couldn't locate a driver on line for it. I ran out of time but found another card at home and downloaded the driver to a CD so I am ready to go next time I go over.
