CM3/Shane- The Seashore has had the car since it's retirement in 1956. It will likley be painted as Montreal and Southern Counties #621. The cars were transfered in '56 from teh MS&C to St Catharines all but the one that went to Seashore -technically it never ran on teh NS&T but it's sisters and their one off trailer did. Last we heard they tended to use it as extra trolley pole storage because those cars were quick and ahave huge motors , which also gobble huge amounts of power.

The 20th Century Limited was and probably still one of the most famous trains in the world, but just for the US, would you say that it was the BEST?
Good Morning Barkeep and all Present: coffee, please; round for the house and $ for the jukebox. It's snowing here and this morning's temperature (approx 22 degrees) was the warmest in about four days. The K9 Korps enjoyed the cold. He rides with me a lot of the time when I am doing errands, etc. and was some displeased that I didn't open the window so he could hand his head out. It was +3 degrees and I didn't think it would do either of us any good. Gas is at $3.09 today.

Cracker Barrel - home away from home to all hungry mining folks! Good thing about that is we work the breakfast off (yeah, right!)

Lars - Done and done again! Our Giants are finally beginning to get some respect. Now we have to endure two weeks of hype leading to a conservatively run game. I know, it's all about the money. My dad (die hard Patriots fan) has to explain to folks as to why I follow the Giants. Thanks for the book covers (I think) there are some real interesting ones this time - IOW another financial challenge.
Pete - Tractors - looks like some of the places near my father-in-law's. He's a Deere follower. Also, thanks for the excellent pictures! Time warp, indeed! I got some like that years back when they ran steam on the New River Train - you have to be willing to hike a bit, and know you'll just get a couple of shots. Glad the link worked for you to the CSX train. Power here is usually one or two monstrous GEs. Eastbound, which is what the picture showed, can be one or two road engines as needed. Sometimes there is a pusher which runs at the aft end of the train. Incidnetally, 50 and 51 get one locomotive per 10 cars; more than 10 cars they get a pair of locomotives. This is because what used to be the Mountain Sub on the C&O has some tough grades; it's now BBR territory (Buckingham Branch RR).
DD1 sent along some reference material which has been downloaded.
OSP as always is keeping things running. "Stone Cold?" Could have been filmed here the past few days. Your Yogism reminded me of the Three stooges bit when Curly was a photographer and he was working in the darkroom. Moe asked him about prints and Curly replied, "I'm positive about the negative, but I'm a little negative about the positive." Enjoyed all of the pictures - poor old A&S power - I hate to see that. Railroad magazine covers were interesting. First one was a generic New England scene. I enjoyed Enjoyed the ones of the G motor and of the VGN squarehead. The last one was a cross between Rutland paint and something that looked sort of like RDG signals. Your e-mail was rec'd and responded to as well. I'll be here Thursday for sure, but I am not sure about Friday (until late in the day).

How ‘bout those Giants, eh What's to say other than they "did it," and convinced me they were READY. Really blew my mind - which isn't that hard to do! <grin> Anyway, the Patriots better take ‘em seriously - for that game at the end of the regular season was no fluke either.
The Patriots game surprised me too, in that they didn't look THAT invincible to me. San Diego played a fine game ‘n made the New England guys earn that win. Now it's on to the Super Duper Bowl - which many a time has been a gross disappointment. Let's hope we get a good show out of it.

Very nice photos from yesteryear, when traveling by train was something special.Tom – Two good movies again! Especially Stone Cold! You are doing a great job finding good movies! The Park City you see is somewhere along the North East Corridor. Don’t remember exactly where but between New York and New Haven. I never got used to that part of the corridor. The Quiz question photo was taken at Penn Station, NYC. It shows a MetroNorth train leaving. The cheapest gas here now is $2.80 (rounded).Nice book cover, The Empire Builder! Are you taking a roundtrip on that train? Interesting magazine covers. It would be interesting to read #3 from 1944, Electrification! Looking from the inside of one GG1 at another GG1! Your first photo from St. Louis Museum of Transportation is something else! A sad looking steam locomotive covered by rust! Makes your photo look interesting and sad at the same time. In an effort to bring something to the table, I'm starting an "event calendar", beginning with the year 1934(my birth year) and progressing through to the present. I'm sure you all know everything there is to know about trains, but maybe there is a little I can slip in now and then without warning that will "catch you". I hope I can continue with this project as time flees. If I can finish, it will cover 73+ years of railroad history. Tom: Nice pics of your model railroad. I am especially impressed by the "telphone/power" wires on the poles. A lot of modelers don't add that bit of realism which stands out by it's absence.

To all you guys. Just in for a quick visit today, the State funeral for Sir Ed Hillary has just finished and just could`nt miss the occasion which was live on TVNZ, it was a great send off for such a colossus of a man. Sherpa Tentsing`s son gave a very moving eulogy to Sir Ed, as well as all the family and friends. A very, very moving occasion!
Unfortunately will not be able to get in until Thursday again, we have to be in Napier tomorrow, so I will catch up with you all and acknowledge all your great posts, info, and pics then!
Eric. Just in case I don`t see you before your surgery, wishing you all the best and every success for the Op, just think of all those goodies you can catch up on soon!

Glad you liked Alan's photos. I enjoyed your photos, thanks for sharing. Was the quiz photo taken at a place called Pipe City, I guess on the East Coast. The DB electric is quite a good looking locomotive, I bet you could have stopped the loco right by the steps when you were a driver.
JAN Great to see you in the bar. I often found that it wasn't when the works was busy and I was working a long hours and weekends it seemed it wasn't when I was doing them I felt real tired but when things got back to normal.
Glad you enjoyed the photos.
The truck on the rails I think is used for the maintenance of the track but the day I took the photo was the only time I have seen one hauling freight cars. I am afraid I don't know anything about that Russian diesel I agree the loco seems to have a character to it.

Don't know where you get the idea I have seen the inside of a few pubs. It reminded me of when I played skittles, we played a game against a team from over 20 miles away who we had not played before, anyway the landlord of the pub came with them and seeing me came up and said "How are You", a team mate of mine heard this and said "How come ALL the pub landlords know you"
We are very lucky here to have a great pub, I was there Saturday and was talking to youngish couple from Columbia and they stay a night in a hotel now and then just to have a night at Pat's. Says it all.
OK it's a deal if you ever get to the Train Wreck saloon with Tom and I, I will get the first round and if Allan or any other regulars are there great.
Great set of covers from the Larsman Mobile. I bet ‘Follow the Flag is a good read and there is a lot of power on that train in the DVD showing the double-header led by the SP locomotive on Sunshine Livery.

Yes, the Larsman provided quite a trip back into nostalgia for those who recall the <dark days> of that summer of 2006. And yes, I think we are far, far better off today than then. QUALITY over QUANTITY should prevail - and for the most part is has. Sometimes the QUANTITY must be accepted when trying to get the material across. But the days of "data dumps" are OVER.

First an heartfelt apology for my absence from my chair and bar. Even though it has been rather quiet at work, I've been extremely tired for some reason and slept quite alot recently. I blame the dark, wet, windy and cold weather here....I can't wait for the spring to kick in so we get to the summer.....
I think that a suitable "punishment" for my AWOL is to pay for all the drinks for the rest of the month (writes a cheque).....this should cover it....here's some extra $$$$ for the cigar box and Mr Wurlitzer....

I understand your problem concentrating on picture taking at the same time you tried to keep track of Stealthy Pete. I remember what happened at the same place last May! Thanks for reposting DL’s old post. I have copied it, very interesting to read again. Nice photos to illustrate DL’s article! The first car (second photo from the top), does it have green blinds/curtains or are the windows tinted green? Pete – I am sure you will like your new scanner! If you ave any questions when you are using it, please ask me.You are an angel? Hmmm, I didn’t know. Acela was built by Bombardier who used some of Alstoms technical solutions/equipment building it. Some parts of Acela is basically the same as what is used on the French TGV.

Many thanks indeed for the Encore from DL on the history on the Nightstar Stock now Via Rail Renaissance cars. It is well worth reading again. I believe I was over in England when it was first posted but I recall reading it when I got back. Thanks for your great photos of the cars in Via Rail service.
I wonder if those Class 92 electric locomotives, which have been stored at Crewe, are still there or have they been put back into operation perhaps DL will know.
Had to go into town with the bride and as you say it is quite ‘brisk' out there today. In the freight yard there was 7 locomotives, 6 UP and 1 LLPX. One of the UP locomotives, #613 was originally a MP GP 38-2 I believe. The Eastbound Amtrak the ‘Ann Rutledge' running about an hour late rolled in, it had the horizon cars. Considering what we have talked about lately, the Amtrak locomotive hauling the train was a bit , its number was 33.

You are right about the profession sports now a days, although I only know much about the UK sports and then not a lot, but it seems, with the astronomical wages the top stars are getting, they have lost all reality with the ordinary guys who are the fans of the game. It would be really interesting to see what would happen if the TV money was suddenly to disappear from these sports.
Yes we are very lucky to have the museum and the TrainWreck saloon so near to each other and to still have a train service from here to Kirkwood, It certainly is a good feeling having some good beer under the belt and traveling on the train listening the engine's horn and the bells of the crossings.
What a great idea to encore two posts from the re-start of the bar, it is hard to believe that was a year and a half ago now. I think then, if could have looked forward to now, we would have been pleased how the bar is today. Looking back to the pages around the link in your post we don't have some of the guys we had then but we have new people since then who are very good, and I think the quality of posts are as good as ever. I still think of BK from time to time and I hope he is doing OK.
The only problem is, when I go back to look at the 'old' Our Place I am there quite a while.

This weeks photos from Alan are from England and Wales, the first 4 are taken at the Bluebell Railway's gala on August 11th 2007.
The only surviving Great Western Railway ‘Dukedog' 4-4-0. These locos were built using the older Duke class boiler and Bulldog class frames. It is hard to believe they were introduced as late as 1936. They were used on lightly laid lines like the Ex Cambrian Railway in Wales.
Unrebuilt ex Southern Railway West Country class pacific No 34023 'Blackmore Vale' with the SR numbering, can anyone guess the meaning of the numbers free beer for a day if you can. These locomotives were nicknamed' Spam Cans'. The signalman is about to recieve the singal-line token from the fireman.
These photos at the Bluebell have been taken at HORSTED KEYNES station on a field outside the station there was a collection of vintage tractors. Mainly Fordsons with a Ferguson,an Allis-Chambers and a Nuffield.
Another pic of the 'Dukedog' note the old vehicles in the consist.

As mentioned a time or three at the bar, there are far TOO MANY who think of the Classics as all being in north America . . . not so, 'n thanx to this joint - we know it even MORESO!
I can only base my observations on what goes on at the bars these days 'n times on the few that I've been in that past couple of decades. BUT for the most part, they can't hold a candle to the one's I recall from "back in the day." The TrainWreck Saloon is perhaps the closest to what I remember as a neighborhood bar - and even that isn't totally correct. There are times of the day when it too is nothing more than one of those "plastic atmosphere" places, catering to the lunch 'no go crowd. Then it reverts back to what we both appreciate . . . such are the times we live in, eh

No, I hardly recall ANY of those "flames" from St. John's . . . my guess is they've aged <considerably> 'n the few teeth they did have long left the orafice! <uh oh> <grin> Betty Hmmmmmmm. Betty! Ahhhhhhhhhh - nope. Don't remember! <grin>
In the "telling tales dept." the only time I spent an overnight in St. John's WITHOUT the ship was when we transported a severly injured merchant seaman to the local hospital. We had removed him from his freighter - the poor guy fell down several levels of decks and was rather "broken" to say the least. Two of us from the ship accompanied the guy aboard the ambulance to the local hospital - I think it was St. Mary's - but that was sooooooo long ago, Lawd knows what the name might be today.
Anyway, while we were getting to the hospital, our ship got called out on a SAR mission - no time to retrieve us. We spent two delightful nights in the company of some rather "friendly" gals at the hospital. Of course, neither of us had anything other than the clothes on our backs 'n what few dollars there were in our wallets. Didn't matter one bit for it was one hulluva time, I'll tell ya that! Betty Hmmmmmm. Don't think so . . . Could be . . . <uh oh>
Nothing like making a port o' call at St. John's in January. "Beating" the nor'easter only means there's gotta be another just waitin' for ya on the "outside." <yikes>
