Good Friday morning, everyone.  Hope everyone had a good night.

Coffee is ready, juice is made, and on the counter, you will find all kinds of doughnuts, danish and muffins.  Bear claws also.

Heard on the local news this morning, that around 1:30 this morning, on the P&L (Paducah & Louisville) tracks, a teenager, around 15,16 years old, was hit by a train.  He's in the hospital, and is expected to survive.  I'm not too sure exactly his injuries are, or why he was sitting on the tracks at that time of the morning.  I sure do feel sorry for that train crew this morning.

Gave Sarah a wake-up call at 6.  She has to be at school at 7 this morning, and will be out at 10:30.  I'm asking for help from a couple of you guys, to help me put up CONGRATULATIONS streamers this afternoon, please.

Sarah - Way to go!  You've had to work a lot harder (but will have a lot more responsibility) than I'll have to be able to officially call myself a conductor - and when I do, I'll have a whole 50 miles or so I'll potentially be qualified on..... (and maybe only 16).  I'm sure you'll do us proud.  If you wander into the wilds of Northern New York, we'll have to see about meeting up!

Emma and Mookie, tomorrow night is the CELEBRATION PARTY FOR SARAH.

I don't know about Saturday.  Did hear from my twin brother.  He wished me a Happy Birthday, since he will have to work all weekend, and won't be able to talk with me.  If anyone here is planning something for Saturday, I don't know anything about that.

The beef stew and cornbread has been relaid on the warmer bar.  (Was almost empty, so need to get more stew heated, and more cornbread made.  So now everything is in order for supper tonight.

Emma - great!  Are we partying tomorrow or Sat/Sun.  I think Sarah is back on Sat just in time for "Darby" day and someone's happy day.

I will be here off and on tomorrow.  We are entertaining some VIP's for lunch tomorrow and my presence has been requested.  (wonder if they will serve hot dogs?)

Off to check out the BNSF - 'til tomorrow

Congradulations Sarah!

I'll take some stew and cornbread. Think I'll lay off the desserts for today, I have had a bit to many of them lately. I will stop in tomorrow for the big party. With all the excitement we might even hit  3000 posts.

P.S. Mookie, I will hide some cake in the back of the fridge for you, so you can party when you get back.

Congratulations Sarah!

Today has been rather dreary. It's cloudy and showery and in the 60s outside which is kind of sad compared to the sun and 70s that we've had for the past few days. It looks like we're entering an active weather pattern with lots of thunderstorm chances for the next week, so we'll see what happens.

Lunch is now being served on the warmer bar:  the beef stew, cornbread, and the usual lineup of desserts are on hand.  Everyone enjoy.

Mookie, you'll definitely be missed tomorrow!  But, I'll make sure I save you a plate, along with a couple big slices of chocolate cake!!

I got so busy reading, I forgot to leave a note!

Congrats to Sarah.  I won't be here for the celebration day, so will miss all the festivities.  We will have to have another party next week for anyone that missed this one.

Someone save me some cake!

Walt

Sorry, I forgot that you also have a special interest in the C&O.  A few years back I saw the 490 parked outside, but the last time I went up to the museum it was inside the car shop and was not open to the public.  Good to see that it is stored inside.  Unfortunately, quarters are somewhat close so photo angles are limited.

I shot the rods to show the absence of the eccentric.  A museum volunteer who was a steam locomotive engineer did a great job of pointing out features of the engines in the shop.  I am not a steam expert and I think he said the valves on the 490 are "poppet" valves.  Did I get that right?

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Ray, thanks so very much for taking care of breakfast duties this morning.  No, I didn't sleep in:  woke up at 5:50, got Mutt up at 6:10, and made breakfast for us.

Mutt is on his way to the Greyhound Bus Station, to go to Huntington, W VA.  Because:

SARAH GRADUATES FROM CSX CONDUCTOR TRAINING SCHOOL TOMORROW!!Thumbs Up [tup]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]

We felt that someone should be there, to see her graduate, so we decided that he should go, and represent her family and ours.  After her graduation tomorrow morning, they will be heading home here to Louisville.  Then, next week, she starts two week field training in Atlanta, GA, and will be returning here afterwards, to work at CSX's Osborn Yard.

Think I'll start planning a Congratulatory Dinner celebration for tomorrow night in the Diner.  Of course, everyone is invited!!  There will be plenty of chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream for everyone!!

Since it's a rainy day today, I've got a big ole pot of beef stew simmering on the stove top, and around 11 a.m. EDT, I'll be putting cornbread in the oven to bake for lunch.  Making enough stew for us to have it for supper tonight, also.  Along with a garden salad

Everyone have a great morning, and try to stay as dry as possible, if your area is getting rain.

Jay, Nice Pics. of # 490!! I've got a picture of her that I took in 1968 when she was still in the roundhouse at Huntington, Wv.

Ray, be very careful about calling that engine ugly, if you want to see ugly, check out

one of 490s sisters(494) that never had the streamlined jacketing applied. If you want

to call something ugly, that would be the one!!

CW isn't sleeping in today and will be in after just a bit. She's been up a bit longer than me, and has been helping me get ready for a long road trip via a Greyhound.

She'll provide details when she does come in.

Good morning everyone. It appears that I am the first one in the Diner here this morning. I've got the coffee brewing and the orange juice is ready for pouring. CW must be sleeping in this morning, so I will take charge of serving breakfast. Haven't done that in a while.

On the menu for breakfast this morning: bacon, pork sausage links, scrambled eggs, ham slices, blueberry pancakes, french toast, english muffins topped with all kinds of good stuff, and bananna nut muffins, fresh out of the oven!Chef [C=:-)]

Something for Carl when he checks back in.  Inside the "Car Shop" at the B&O museum from my trip last week.

Notice anything a little different in this picture?

I'm very glad to hear that everyone enjoyed having pizzas for lunch today.  Maybe I'll alternate the day of the week, to include pizza on the menu, along with Saturday nights.

Joe, got some pizza in a container in the fridge, for you to take to work tonight.

Now, for tonight's supper, you will find on the warmer bar:  tuna melt casserole, BLTs w/fries, burgers, cheese burgers, onion rings, and for dessert:  strawberry cheesecake, banana pudding, chocolate cake, and white cake w/white icing , and grape Jell-O w/sliced peaches and pears mixed in the Jell-O.

I guess I was wrong! It's just that I usually notice young people drinking it, not people that are middle-age and older.

I know Gatorade is healthier than pop, but I prefer cold water over either Gatorade or pop.

Willy it's good for maintaining good electrolytic balance within the body.  I know, and work with, many people of that population (and older!-note the careful phrasing Big Smile [:D]) that benefit from sports drinks.  I even keep a small bottle of it chilled for diabetic emergencies in the weightroom.  Man...what a gorgeous day!
