Aha! Love the creative naming process. My sister had a Buick Skyhawk that wasn't much of a car. She called it the 'Air Chicken'. I had an S10 once that rusted so bad I called an S7!
Love these short 3 hour workdays on a Friday! I think I'll go chase the WSOR today...
Dan
Okay, I've made it back from my errands (got everything done but library; will do that tomorrow morning), and I've got lunch on the warmer bar:
Our Friday Fish Fry includes: cod, perch, haddock, hallibut, fries, cole slaw, corn on the cob, apple, cherry pecan and chocolate pies for dessert.
Chad, good to see you in this morning. Hope you drop in more often!!
Oh Dan - I keep forgetting you are a newbie...
Millie is a 2002 Buick Century (ergo the Millenium - Millie.....)
The Driver is just that - he drives me everywhere I want/need/don't want to go. I have a perfectly valid driver's license and will never wear it out, since he won't let me drive! We are both married - fortunately it is to each other!

Well, did a little "digging" - I do it so well....
1824 is Caustic Soda or Sodium Hydroxide.
Wonder if that is Alka-seltzer and something to bleach your fur.....

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Good Friday morning, everyone! Sarah, back to the Diner!! Hope we get to see you in here a little more often, when you have the chance.
Coffee is ready (I'm having my first cup of the morning right now), iced tea, lemonade are freshly made, and on the breakfast bar, you all will find all kinds of doughnuts laid out for breakfast: crullers, chocolate covered doughnuts of every kind, including the long johns, with cream and or/vanilla in them, raspberry danish, apple and cherry danish, and bear claws.
One of you may have to take over frying the fish and fries today. I've got to go pay bills, go to the library, and get some groceries this morning. Hope to be back in time, but you never know with public bus transportation.
Everyone behave yourselves this morning, and DON'T DISTURB THE KITTY IN THE HAMMOCK!!
Willy's gone - Sarah is back! Now we have to wait until next week to get the whole family back!
Congrats Sarah - It is too bad more people can't accomplish their life's dream. Maybe the world would be a little happier.
Dan - I don't think I have ever seen one like that - or maybe I just didn't know what it was. I will have to start examining these cars a little closer. I always look at the placard and check the book that Houston Ed gave me to see what odd items are traveling past in the tankers. Some are pretty scary and others are just funny. (Edible Beef Tallow - makes you want to give up fries!)
More rain last nite - it was a nice rain. Weather cool - it has been a perfect May. Now we will see if June is going to be extra hot or just nice.....
Need to visit the hammock for at least a couple of hours. Will put out the Do Not Disturb sign and the ear plugs for the rest!
All right. We're off to the airport and to New York City. Of course I'll have a full report of the trip on Tuesday when we get back.
See ya!
Willy

CW, thanks for the plate. I can already taste it.
Sarah, A huge congrats on your accomplishments. When do we get to see some pics of you in action?
....Congratulations, Sarah....Walt did tell us of your accomplishments to RR employment. Good luck on the adventure.
And yes, still no rain right here at our home site near Muncie...Hot too.

That's where they put it if there is one.... Notice the little tube next to it.
Sarah! Welcome back! Doubt you'll wander up into my neck of the woods (still CSX territory), but if you do, some advance notice!
I'm about ready to start doing the "official" stuff myself - got the rules and stuff out of the way and will be on the schedule as a "trainman trainee" in July. The training part shouldn't take long - I've been paying attention to operations while working as a car host.
Supper is now on the warmer bar. On tonight's menu: grilled skinless boneless chicken breasts, mashed taters, peas, spinach, and corn. And for anyone who doesn't like green peas or spinach, there's broccoli also on the menu tonight.
Joe, hope the fundraiser tonight is a success!
Lance, there's a container in the fridge, ready for you to take to work tonight.

If you get some picks start a new thread. We may get more insight from members who don't frequent the diner.

I've seen folks use round bale 'grinders' to chip up waste wood. Given the appropriate teeth, I would imagine they'd handle spikes, as well as those metal thingies that they use to hold together marginal ties.
Our local landfill won't take the ash from the co-gen plant here on post. Something about the fact that they include ground-up tires in the mix with the coal.

Not up close, but WSOR had one working at Bardwell (jct of Janesville-Fox Lake line with Elkhorn Branch). Converted a massive pile of ties from what I assume was the WSOR's replacement program. The chip pile was hauled off by truck somewhere. Landfill? Given the gunk in the ties, I doubt if the chips are safe to reuse.
I wonder if the machines can handle the rare leftover spike?
Well, I just finished making more lemonade, and it's in the five gallon drum. Hope it's enough for this afternoon.
Mookie, enjoyed our chat in the garden. Always enjoy talking with you.
For lunch today, we have: tuna salad sandwiches, open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters and gravy, fries or chips to go with the tuna sandwiches, and BLTs are ready. We've also got some sliced red and yellow tomatoes and lettuce for sandwiches.
Now, after my nice time in the garden, think I'm going to take a short nap. So you all enjoy your lunch and afternoon.
Maybe we can get Mark to come in the Diner, and regale us with his experiences in Iraq. It has been a long while since he's been in here. And maybe he'll bring Tina in with him.
