DF, was your friend in Illinois--the Land of Lincoln?

Anyone who threatens to use tools on Willy will have to go through me first.  If you just listen to his forecasts instead of blaming him for them, you'll gain some intelligence--desperately needed, I must say, in some cases.

This post reverses--but does not alter--a long-standing policy of mine.  Nobody around, so I'm out of here, too.

We're actually down on snow this year - I've had substantially more than that here in the past.  Were I a little younger, I wouldn't even have bothered with the snowblower for what I did last night, but I've got it, so what the heck?

Well, the first round here last night didn't give us much at all- just a dusting.  Tonight they're forecasting 3 to 6 inches by the time it ends tomorrow afternoon for the second round.  We shall see.

BTW, had an e-mail exchange with Chad Thomas- he sends his regards.  Very busy lately.

Just heard we are supposed to have some more snow this Friday with an estimated temp of about 10 F. In Georgia that's a big deal!

Well, I survived my first three hour shift working for Wendy's today. At first it was a bit bewildering, but when I had finished at 2:00 this afternoon, "Al" told me that I had done good. Al and my supervisor had me doing a little bit of almost everying, and I am good at finding things to do, which gave my supervisor reason to smile. I am kind of looking forward to going back to Wendy's to work another shift tomorrow at 11:00 AM.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota is under a snow advisory for the next several hours and we could be getting as much as two to four inches of fresh snow by early tomorrow morning. We got about a half an inch of the white stuff last night. I'm getting awfully tired of winter, but I think that spring will eventually arrive here in the Dakotas.........in about fifteen thousand years!!!Banged Head [banghead]

I am getting ready to ship a care package to my sister who lives out in Gillette, Wyoming, and have been busy in my kitchen baking chocolate chip cookies. I might share my chocolate chip cookie recipe with everyone else out there in a seperate post. Anyone who would like a cookie fresh from the oven is welcome to drop in at my house!Chef [C=:-)]

CP2816's CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE RECIPEChef [C=:-)]

If anyone wants to go to work in the Diner's kitchen tomorrow and bake chocolate chip cookies, here is my recipe.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

2 1/2 C. Flour

1/2 Tsp. Salt

1 Tsp. Baking Soda

2 Large Eggs

2/3 C. Granulated Sugar

1 C. Brown Sugar - Firmly Packed

1 Tsp. Vanilla

1 Stick of Crisco Shortening (I use the yellow shortening that resembles butter, it makes for a better cookie.)

1/2 C. Chocolate Chips, or as Tree suggested once, Mint Chips

Bake at 375 degrees for EXACTLY 10 minutes.

You should get about 2 and a half dozen 3" cookies out of this recipe.Chef [C=:-)]

I'll take on the job of baking cookies. I will have to try the mint chip idea. Smile [:)]

That sounds like a good twist on the classic cookie and thanks for the hint about he crisco.

Maybe I can be the new beginner cook.Chef [C=:-)]

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Ray, thanks for the chocolate chip recipe.  Looks like the one I use (and yes, I've also started using the Crisco sticks when I make cookies).  Emmar, come on into the kitchen with me this afternoon, and we'll do a whirlwind cookie making session, around 1 p.m.

On the warmer bar, you will find:  bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, beagles (uh, I mean bagels), bear claws, cinnamon rolls, and country fried ham w/red eye gravy.

I hope all our friends to the north of us, are doing all right, as far as this latest round of snow, is concerned.

I'll be back after I get through with Tuesday Produce.  Sure hope they bring something besides potatoes and watermelons.  The watermelons they brought in last week, looked like they were frozen, so I didn't get one.  And the potatoes already had sprouts on them.

Everyone have a great morning, and stay dry and warm, please.

SNOWDAY!

There's actually not a whole lot of need for it as most areas only got 3 or 4 inches of snow, but the wind is really drifting it and I think that's why they ended up cancelling school.

I got out of bed a little better than a half an hour ago, and right now I am guessing that we have about 2 inches of fresh snow on the ground, it could be a bit less than that. Right now we have a temperature of 3 degrees above 0, and with the wind out of the north at 9 mph, this leaves us with a wind chill factor of 11 below 0. I guess we are back in the deep freeze once again. I would almost rather stay home in the warmth of my house than to try to go anywhere today, but the reality is I can not afford not to go to work, both in terms of income and what my new employer and co-workers will end up thinking of me. In other words, my reputation here is at stake.

I also turned out a batch of molasses/sugar cookies last night, and being a bit tired, I forgot to set my timer and almost burned the last dozen cookies......they still make good coffee dunkers.

Well, just breezed into the diner!  We got snow overnite - about 5-6 inches, but unlike wimpy Omaha which is about 50 north and east of us - we kept everything open - including the 24 hour fast food places!

I came in a little later since had to get up at regular time and then get the remote snowblower out of bed at his regular time.  Our pod faces north so the garage had big drifts in front of it.  He spent about an hour getting just the driveway and walks done.

I love that - I push a button and voila.....my snow is shoveled.  Where was he when I was single and lived in a rental on a corner lot and owned a cheap snowshovel!

Tree - I like your pictures.  Makes me feel right at home.  Pictures of San Diego would make me really feel much better, tho!

Anyway - I will snitch a chocolate chip cookie that I think Joe hid away for me.  Brother Carl!  Glad to see your smiling face was in da diner!  Next time, we will get coffee and sit on the back porch and sniff the garden.  It is always nice weather here in the diner.  Plus, since I buried something out in the garden last Xmas, it smells much better!  Evil [}:)]

Beware east of New-brass-key - it ain't gonna be pretty!

Bob - looked you up - you are practically our neighbor!  I am getting so I think of travel from here to Chicago and all points in-between (Cedar Rapids) as being our neighbors.  My world has shrunk considerably since I have been on the forum!  (Just not quite to New York yet!)

Snow and Ice should be a normal winter for you! But like our city - they drive like they are all late to something!

What a beautiful day!  The birds are chirping up a storm.  Literally.  Well, okay, maybe "storm" is an exaggeration, but it does look like we will get some more rain today.  And as they say, "February showers bring March flowers"!

It's often hard for me to tell just exactly how much snow we've gotten until I have actually stepped out in it. I have roughly a half an inch of snow on my front deck, but our local news paper, the "Argus Liar" (I could call them worse names than this) says that we got better than 2 inches last night. So go figure.

....The dreaded winter weather system is here and doing it's thing.  Started about 12:30 last night and snowed during the night and basically looks like it will continue all day today and into the evening and supposedly then taper off during late night and begin to tail off to the east.

We are one of 5 Indiana counties under an emergency alert..{stay off roads unless an emergency}, this being Delaware Co.

Very low visibility now....with the strong east wind pounding us.  Must be 5 to 6" of the stuff added to us by now and seems if it continues as forecast we'll get that foot or more before it starts tailing off....

22.8 degrees now as we type....and almost a white out.   Very heavy snow fall now.  The kind that adds up.

Enjoy the day all....Hope all can be safe if in any part of this massive system.  But this too, will pass....Hopefully.

Carl, nice to see you in.  Like the others who have been misssing (and a couple still are), don't be a stranger.

The weather "people" say that when this cold front comes our way later this afternoon, this rain will turn to snow and ice.  And I'm thinking they're talking about mostly ICE.  Since it is raining, they can't pretreat the streets around here with the brine solution, because the rain will just wash it away.  Since our street is a state highway link, we've not seen any of the brine trucks.   All we see are the regular salt trucks.

Mookie, glad to see that you made it in all right.  Thumbs Up [tup]

On the warmer bar, you'll find Carl's (Pat's) Soup, along with some cream of potato, tomato, vegetable and cream of broccoli soups.  There are also grilled cheese sandwiches, "fried" bologna sandwiches, and some tuna salad sandwiches.  In the cooler, you'll find:  Caesar  and garden salad, fruit salad, grape Jell-O w/fruit cocktail in it.

If none of that suits anyone's appetite, I'll fix you a burger and fries.
