Good Thursday morning to one and all!  TINA!!  So glad to see you came by yesterday!  Sorry I wasn't in here at  the time.  We could have had a really good chat.  The way you feel, about wherever you live, as long as your sweetie is, that's the way I feel about Walt.  Ain't love GRAND?!?!

TO ALL WHO CAME BY YESTERDAY, AND WISHED WALT AND ME A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!  IT'S A GREAT FEELING TO HAVE SO MANY WONDERFUL FRIENDS (WHO ARE FAMILY MEMBERS, AS WELL AS FRIENDS!)

TO JOE AND RAY, THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH FOR TAKING OVER THE COOKING DUTY YESTERDAY, AND RAY:  THANKS FOR FIXING BREAKFAST THIS MORNING, ALSO!!  AND RAY, CONGRATS ON THE JOB!!

Now, I'm gonna go to the warmer bar, and get some of the goodies Ray made this morning.  Think I'll start with some COFFEE CAKE!!Big Smile [:D]

Walt and Paul

Sorry I am a day late, but my congrats to you too.  I have had my face in a 'puter screen for ten hours or more for each of the last few days and my finger tips are just about worn down to the first knuckles.  Many happy clients!  Many more to go.

Tina-I don't know if you would be so happy if you were in Wisconsin these days.  There is and continues to be a serious absence of heat in the area.  Must be the Canadians getting back to us for all of our "comments" about our friends to the North.

Speaking of friends, got a note from the State of Iowa that I will be banned from going into Iowa for the next 90 days, and when I am let back in, I will be required to mend some fences.

For the Map reader.  We are located about ten miles north of the Illinois state line.  Many Wisconsinites consider that dangerously close.  If you start at Lake Michigan and head west we are about one quarter of the way to Iowa.  That makes us pretty safe from retaliation by the folks in those parts.

Time to dress very warmly and head out.  Only relief is that my nice fancy car does have have seat heaters.  Is this a great life, or what?

Jay - did Iowa plant asparagus at the border like Colorado did?  If so, talk to Mudchicken.

And can I borrow your seat warmer - our electric blanket is on the fritz!

MS. Mookie,

Thank you for the encouraging words. In time I will get to know my neighbors. I have finally got them to wave back when I wave. That took a week or two.

Ray, congrats on the job. Job hunting is hard and it is always a relief when one comes through.

Jay, keep up the trash talk about Iowa and they might start calling your place Devilan.

Paula, yeah, love is pretty darn great.

Willy, keep studying weather. I love to chase storms, but apparently the tornado types aren't too common here. I can't imagine a spring without green skies.

Larry, taking classes? Recert time? I am auditioning Saturday for a school of music. I think I have caught Brian in Iowa's cold and am worrying that I will not sing my best. I have to laugh at the process. This particular school wanted letter of recommendation from my teachers. I think most of them have been dead thirty years. Then I remembered my paramedic professor. He's my age, maybe younger. Reminds me of the story my organ teacher told me. Old composers never die, they just decompose.

Later...I have to go back to staring down the cat in the window across the street. He thinks he's top cat around here.

It's 7:18 a.m. and a train is whistling. Do you know where your railfan is?

....2.5 degrees here now and bright sunshine but seems we'll wait a few days longer to get rid of this Artic stuff....Our longest super cold snap in a few years.  Sure do appreciate the sunshine though.

The 5 in. of snow still here will hinder it warming too....

One thing for sure though, Winter is working itself towards Spring.

Sure sounds like some of NY has had their share of snow....Sure glad we normally don't see that much around here.  But have lived in similar conditions many years ago in the home area of Pennsylvania.

Good afternoon, everyone.  Mookie, I'm sorry to report that I'm all out of goose patty, crabby legs and fishyswaaaa.  I do have salmon, so I've fixed some salmon patties, along with Tuna Melt casserole, and some lamb stew.  Will those help satisfy your cravings?  (At least for  today, that is>)Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

And for desserts, we have strawberry cheese cake, chocolate cake, and there's plenty of apple and cherry pie left, also.

Everyone have a good afternoon, and I'll be back in a little while.

No, Mook, it wasn't Mary's lamb:  made sure I got one we didn't know, from an organic farmer.  We had to travel to another county to get it.

One of life's little ironies: Whilst driving to Longmont for a pair of bid openings through said "snoggy" conditions, I did not encounter any driving mishaps. Thankfully, there was no damage to the company truck. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the same can be said for my faith in the future graduates of the aforementioned educational institution. On tonight's supper menu, I have salmon patties frying in one skillet, potatoes frying in another, and there is some stew  and tuna melt left from lunch.

For desserts tonight:  plenty of chocolate cake left, and apple pie.  For cherry pie fans, don't worry:  there are a couple more baking in the oven, and they'll be ready in about 15 minutes.

Chris, glad you weren't hurt, and no damage to the company truck!!

Indeed - discussed drugs last night (I prefer "medications,"  the word "drugs" has so many negative connotations these days).  The scary part about the class is that there are only two of us actually recerting - the other two are there because they didn't do well enough on their first attempt at ALS.  There were 20 some of us when I first stepped up from BLS to ALS provider.

The daytime class is about our new trunked radio system at work.  Using them is relatively easy.  Setting one up in the first place is a real pain in the.....

Special notice to the DD&CS Fire Brigade:  Oswego County, NY has declared a state of emergency due to their continuing snow event.  They are looking for fire crews to do 12 hour shifts in relief of their tired fire departments.

They are well on their way to 8 feet of snow in some places - the lake snow event started last weekend is is still going strong.

I think I will take a large order of potatoes, a tall glass of sweet tea, some water, and a good dose of Tylenol.

I hate sinus headaches...specially when they turn into migraines. I should be better by tomorrow though

So much to say - so little time....

Chris - I get very excited in drive-thru's - so can see how it could happen.  Big Smile [:D]

Tree - I thought the 21 inches we got many years ago was a barnburner.  7 feet and more "feet" to come!  Unbelieveable.  Any chance that may swing to the north?  Maybe you should fill in that big lake with dirt?

Nighttrain - I suffered with migraines periodically for years and they were always sinus related.  I found that if I didn't "smell" really strong scents (perfume, oil paint, cleaning products, etc, I could avoid them.  But sometimes I would forget and be "retrained" immediately.  Old age hath its upside - no more migraines!

I was tickled pink (see avatar) yesterday.  We were watching trackside as is our usual thing right after work.  A young man (late 20's) stopped by and told us he sees us there quite frequently since he works in the area, so had to ask what we were doing.

That is the 2nd time someone has asked and so we gleefully tell them what and why - maybe drumming up future fans.  He said he asked a train crew person what he thought we were doing.  No clue was the answer.  I told him it is a hobby - like fishing or bowling - but then thought later - I have done both and no one ever asked me what I was doing (except the Driver when I snagged a tree or made a gutter ball again!)

I think this goes back to Tina's observation that the Midwest is really a friendly, comfortable place where people will stop and visit or inquire.

Well, I think a beagle sounds good - will push Tree's "bearpaw" into the warmer.  That's politically correct, you know.

Well, once again it looks like I am the first one in the Diner this morning. I've got the coffee brewing, the hot chocolate is ready and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. I will let CW or someone else take care of serving breakfast this morning.

Right now we have a temperature of 2 degrees above 0 on the frozen tundra of South Dakota, and with the wind out of the NW at 9 mph, we have a wind chill factor of 11 below 0. I'm going to see my barber later this morning and that will entail walking a couple miles, hopefully it will warm up here a bit.

I have never had anyone approach me and ask me what I am doing when I am watching trains, but I kind of think that if you have to opportunity to share your enthusiasm for the hobby with a stranger, sometimes it's worth it. Especially if you can share any historical information with them.

Good Friday morning to one and all!  Think we got down to 13 overnight, but the windchill was 0 degrees.

Ray, thank you for making fresh juice this morning.

On the warmer bar, you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, and I'll fix up western omelettes, is anyone wants one, and there are some doughnuts also.  Along with bear claws (paws).

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll be back in around 11, with the lunch/supper menu.

Spring is in full swing here.  The tender green shoots of grass make the ground look vibrant.  The budding trees are just begging for the opportunity to burst into full flower.  We are getting a bit more rain, which is really great.  I'll postpone my walk until later this afternoon, however.
