Brian, sounds like you had a very good weekend!!

Since no one has made any requests for today, I've decided on the following menu for today:

1.  leftovers from yesterday's grill-out

2.  Italian spaghetti w/your choice of garlic Texas toast, garlic bread or garlic breadsticks, and garden salad or Caesar salad.

There's definitely plenty of leftovers from yesterday, for lunch patrons, and definitely enough Italian spaghetti, etc., to have for lunch and supper tonight.

You all have a great afternoon, and enjoy your meal.  Be back later on this afternoon, to check on things around here.

Hi Brian,

My grandmother was close friends with Chris Pennick's(sp) mother for many years. I don't know if he is still in the band or not but for many years he was a guitarist for Chicago. I knew him when I was a kid. His father was an HO model railroader with a sizeable collection of transition era rolling stock and buildings. When he died his collection was given to me. Many of the buildings I got from him are now on my dad's layout.

Good morning, Joe and ladies!

One other thing I failed to mention in last night's post that we did over the weekend- Friday night we attended the Great Jones County Fair up in Monticello, IA, where we got to watch Chicago perform (we think at least a couple of them were original band members).  Of course, Peter Cetera was not there, but his stand-in did his best to imitate Peter.  'Twas a great show, followed by a spectacular little fireworks display.

Gonna take out my attendance book and start marking.  People are starting to come back in- must be the good music I put on this morning.  Got the 5th Dimension on right now.  5th dimension - I think that's where I go during the night....

Had a quiet weekend - just The Driver, 'arry and me.  Big Smile [:D]

And like Trains magazine, he read it first.  I am a slower reader and was near the end of another book, so it was ok.

Will go hang out on the porch and wait for someone to come staggering in and get me down my small tub for coffee.

Sounds like everyone had a very good weekend!  Well, looks like today's going to be our last very good day, weather-wise.  They're saying the humidity will be back in tomorrow, and each day afterwards, will be getting hotter.  Oh well, it is the end of July.

Coffee is ready, as well as fresh juices, plenty of hot water for tea, and I've made fresh iced tea, lemonade, and fruit punch.

On the breakfast bar, you'll find:  turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, and if you don't want any of that, there's Cheerios and Raisin Bran for anyone who's heart conscious, and cholesterol conscious.  And there are warm bagels and bear claws, also.

You all have a very good morning, and if anyone has any lunch and supper requests, please let me know!

Barbara and I just returned from Aunt Mertie's 100 birthday party in Macomb. She was a spinster school teacher in La Harpe, and more than 40 nephews, neices and their decendants from 5 generations were in attendance. Mertie has told me about the trains she rode on weekends. She had a great day.

//comes dragging in

Hey all, super busy weekend here- took another run up to Minnesota yesterday morning and got back this afternoon, plus another family gathering here in town on Joanie's side after that.  Couldn't ask for better weather, though.  Gotta run, e-mail to check and pictures to upload...

Wow - take off for the weekend and miss all sorts of stuff.

After working on the railroad Friday, I went downstate to help another fire department with a major event for them - the "World Enduro" motorcycle event.  Nobody should treat a motorcycle like that!  Once I get them downloaded, I'll share a picture or two from the event.

The racing was held well back into the woods - the words "rude apology" fit the road in very well.  Still, it was well attended by people from all over the northeast and Canada, and the competitors came in from all over the world.  It was not at all unusual to hear a conversation you could understand.....

Missed the diner food, though.  The real stuff left something to be desired.  I think even Matt would have turned the fries down.

Time to finish unpacking the truck.

I have worked all morning, preparing Sunday Dinner on the grill.  On the warmer bar, you will find:

steak, pork chops, hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, Polish sausage, chicken quarters, chicken drumsticks, breasts, "baked" potatoes, grilled veggies.

Sure do hope some people come in to eat all that I have on the warmer bar.

Good Sunday morning!!  Joe, you are so right:  looks like it's going to be another beautiful day today!!  Thank you so much for making the juice, coffee and lemonade.  And the cinnamon rolls and leftover pizza sound very good this morning.

Guess I'll let the "cat out of the bag" (and not Mookie, either!!):  we went with Sarah to CSX's Family Day yesterday, after she got off work.  As you can tell by my new avatar, I got to get up on an engine, and had my picture taken.  I'm glad they had steps for everyone to get up to the engine, because my short legs would not have let me get up there, otherwise!

Got to meet several of her coworkers, saw an Operation Lifesaver Caboose, and heard some really good music!!  Of course, we had good food, also:  they had burgers, hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw, snack crackers, soft drinks, and small bags of chips and even had a popcorn machine.  They had all kinds of games for the kids, with prizes for them.  Even got a Frisbee with CSX on it.

Everyone have a great morning, and be back in here around 1 p.m. for SUNDAY DINNER.  Think I'll start firing up the grill in a bit, and grill out for Sunday Dinner.  Anybody have anything in particular they want me to grill today?!?!

Have a great evening, everyone!!

Weather here is terrific too. Looks like I just missed the rains that came through at the end of last week...

Just back. Sorry I missed last night's fish. Had a great Salmon steak from my fresh caught fish. Done great. Cooked over lump charcoal on a cedar board. We should try that some time here. It is awesome. Brought a few fish home frozen too in fillet form. Got one at the smokehouse to be shipped later...

Great trip all in all. Almost gets me ready to go play choo choo again.

Good Saturday morning, all.  Looks like it's going to be another beautiful, semi-cool day around here!!  Sorry I didn't make it back in last night; but it seems that the forum was acting up, and wouldn't let me log in, to even get to the DD/CS!

Coffee is ready, hot water ready for tea, and oj, oj-tangerine, oj-pineapple, etc. are also freshly made this morning, along with fresh iced tea and lemonade.

You've got many choices on the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, country fried ham w/red-eye gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage patties, sausage gravy, cooked rice, oatmeal, grits, country-fried taters & onions, cantaloupe and watermelon chunks, and sliced red & yellow tomatoes, pancakes, waffles, and plenty of maple syrup.  And if none of this tempts you, there are doughnuts, and muffins on the counter.

You all have a terrific day, and remember to be careful, and watch out for the idiot people who are out there, acting like goofballs!!

Wow, dead in here this afternoon, everyone must be out enjoying the day (about 77 or so here in Madison, very low humidity, going down to 50 for a low tonight).

Will take some fish, then off to play some poker in town, have a good one.....

Great to be back, Mookie, wish I could have been in earlier, but I don't have a laptop, otherwise I could have dropped in every time we were hooked up to IdleAire at the truckstops.  (Great deal, by the way, under two bucks an hour for heat and air and local channels and e-mail, high speed internet access for about four bucks a visit.)

I'll take breakfast and then off to do some errands, and get an appointment set up for my road test.

Geez Mooks, go back to work in your state and the temperature gets cranked up to near 100.

At least we spend the weekend playing in the ditches over here. BNSF and UP are both extremely busy building new RR around here. Bumped into a BNSF new track construction roadmaster that I've worked with before at the motel last last night. They are putting up track at a record rate.
