Thanks everyone for the well-wishes, I wouldn't change a thing here except to have her more healthy. Her knee problems are getting her down- two and a half weeks to go until the next orthopedic surgeon appointment.
I'll take some fish and fries as well.

Happy Anniversary! It's a day late, but I guess it still counts.
We actually got exactly one inch of rain at my house last night. Parts of Omaha just a little ways west of us measured two to three inches of rain. There were also very strong winds with trees, powerlines, and traffic lights down. It was certainly better than I was expecting when I went to bed. I just love a good severe thunderstorm!
Off to peruse the rest of the forum. TTFN.

Eagles?
What took you so long?
If you like them, try Bad Company, or a little known Florida road band that has been around since the late 60...The Outlaws...
Hey, anybody got a spare SCUBA?
Pretty soon, I'm gonna have to learn how to switch wearing flippers....

The common cockloft. Very common for many years. NYC firefighters deal with them regularly in "taxpayers," commonly known as strip malls. With today's lightweight construction, fire spread is fast and efficient. If you live in such a building, don't spend a lot of money on furnishings and keep your really valuable stuff someplace else, 'cause I'm not going in to save any of them.
As with anything else, they get built because they are legal, although they may be just inches from requiring something like a firewall.
And you're right - it is a big hole in the fire codes, which all too often are dictated by local municipalities, which lack the knowledge and experience to deal with the big builders.

thanks for supper tonight.I have been catching up on chores and zzz's.
larry I see these apartments go up or old structures too.like the wauseon fire if a building owner didn't put up the fire wall improvement the total block in wauseon would have gone up during the fire.as for trains matt and I have been reading since we got it today.
Thanks, CW
Larry, thanks for the info! And you can get on your soapbox, any time you want; the builders, contractors, etc., NEED to make sure they do everything they can, to build better homes, that meet all the safety codes!!
Now, for our supper menu tonight:
Tuna melt casserole, beef noodles casserole, corn on the cob, broccoli, brussels sprouts, corn on the cob, baked potatoes and garden salad.
Desserts tonight: chocolate cake, brownies, apple, peach and cherry cobblers w/ice cream.
Joe and Lance, as usual, there are containers made and in the fridge, for you all to take to work tonight.
I note everytime down in Indianapolis one of those kinds of structures catches fire, it races from one end to the other and the building is a total loss before it can be stopped, plus the tennents loose everything they have in many cases. I thought codes required fire walls every so far in these large structures but it sure appears not...
Here in Muncie, we have some of the largest {almost brand new}, structures and it appears they have no firewalls of anykind.

Hot weather = Air Conditioning = potentially overloaded circuits.
Add to that the lightweight construction they are using these days and you have a pile of kindling ready to go up at a moments notice. We're going to be saving less and less structures as a result. Some may point a finger at the fire departments, but the real blame rests on those who seek to erect structures that just barely meet codes, which themselves are under assault as the construction industry seeks to lower their costs.
Better get off the soapbox before I really get wound up.
Dinner at a fire house tonight - monthly dinner meeting.

I got mine yesterday!
....J....My wife, Jean totally agrees with you. According to her, there is not enough crackers in the world to allow her to eat any raw oysters.
Mookie wrote:Q - I don't think I can buy that many crackers!
Mookie, now you know that CW keeps a very Big supply of "Oyster Crackers" on hand here in the Diner!!
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
....Now J, you need to try them....Make sure they are good crackers...ha....
I'm not sure that we'll make it up to the predicted high of 86 today. Went to Kroger this morning, and they skies are very cloudy, looks like we may get some rain anytime.
For lunch today, I've warmed up the beef stew left from supper last night, and fixed a fresh batch of cornbread. Also on the menu today: tuna melt casserole, vegetable beef soup, fresh corn on the cob (both yellow and Silver Queen white sweet corn), broccoli, and brussels sprouts. Believe I have fixed enough of everything (minus the beef stew), that there should be enough for supper tonight, also.

Umbrella at the ready!
NWS is forecasting over an inch of rain for Cedar Rapids tonight/tomorrow, so keep that umbrella ready!
Naturally, it appears that Omaha may get nothing, which really shouldn't disappoint me anymore since that is just what happens this year and I should get used to it already.
Hope everyone has a good day!
....Finally, we did get a bit of rain....Not from the west flow, but it came down from the Great Lakes area....{north to us}, and deposited 3/4" yesterday afternoon and evening....Nice slow rain. But, much more is needed. Now we have humidity. So windows stay closed.
