CW, thank you so much for making a delectable spaghetti and meat ball dinner.  I'll have an extra large helping with garlic Texas toast.  Hey, I think that I will have some of that peanut butter pie for dessert.  Dinner [dinner]

Jim, just got back from Eola. Great evening with nice light, warm temps, lots of trains, and lots of board members! Caught up with Jimitrain, EJE818 and AMTK161 out there tonight. If I get a chance between packing, calling the limo service, doing laundry, etc. tonight I'll get some pics posted. One of these trips I still need to meet up with you and PopZ, though.

CW, I'm flying this trip. I'll be sure to stop in and let you all know when I get back.

Hope you all have a great evening! Catch you later!

Okay, I've got  supper on the warmer bar for tonight:  spaghetti w/meat balls and your choice of garlic bread or garlic Texas toast.  Have freshly made garden salad in the cooler, along with some pies:  peanut butter, cherry, peach, and pecan pie.  Also took two more chocolate cakes out of the freezer, defrosted them (at room temp) and iced them.  Want to make sure we have enough chocolate cake when Mookie gets in here in the morning.

Didn't mention it when I posted the lunch menu; but Dare to Care called just after 10, and said there would be no Produce truck today.  So had to go to the store for the fresh salad fixings.

Chris, have a safe trip back to Colorado, whether it's by air or auto (or are you going to go back by rail?

Hey there CopCarSS, hope you enjoyed our unusually warm weather here and hope you got to come out to Eola Yard for a look-see (if so, how did you find it to be?).  Have a good trip back and drive/fly safely!

.....Willy:

Everything is still holding fine....sunshine and low 40's today {nothing in the snow dept. for some time now....}, so you must have the knobs set rather well in the back room for the mid west....Suggest you retain those settings.

Chris:

10-4 on the goodie lens you mention....Yes as you mention the short DOF would be better for fellows like you and not us pure amateurs.  Critical focusing.  Hope you have some more dramatic shots similar to the cut of tanks.

Well, I'm in trouble now! I've had a feeling of impending doom ever since I heard that Lincoln got up to 8 inches of snow. I figured I would be in big trouble with the kitty. I think I better make a peace offering of chocolate cake tomorrow.

The New Year's fireworks were very nice and the grand finale had to of been the most impressive I've ever seen. Naturally, a train decided to come and then sit in the way through the whole thing. I was still able to see fairly well through the space between cars, but it would have been nicer if the train hadn't of been sitting there. I hope the engineer and conductor enjoyed the show!

You're gonna skip over the worst of it. The snow on your car may have melted by half by the time you get here. Side street conditions are still butt-ugly and more snow (not much) is due on Friday. Today's forecast is mud and slush.

Want to know why BNSF sent the BN rotary here from Lincoln instead of sending the ATSF rotary from Topeka.

Sounds like a great performing lens.  Tamron is the lens  I choose to put on my EOS some years back...Not digital.

Quentin,

Yeah, she's fairly bright for what she is. Of course the ultimate would be an EOS 200mm f1.8L and the penultimate would be a Nikon 200mm f2 VR. Of course, those both retail for several thousand a piece, so it's not likely until I win Powerball or something (which will be hard to do considering I don't play). The Tammy 180 has proven to be quite a performer, though. She's sharp wide open (though DOF is thin, so focus becomes quite critical). Like I said, it's just a shame that there's only 3000 of them out there.

I also picked up another new toy at the same, also a Tamron Adaptall. This one is a 300mm f2.8 LD (IF). Also I great lens, though not quite as handholdable as the 180 is! I've got some shots from a New Year's day outing with Carl that I'll try to post by tonight with that one. DOF gets even harder to manage with that one when it's used wide open thanks to the f2.8 aperture. Makes me wonder what it's like using the very, very rare Nikon 300mm f2.

Well, I suppose I should get some pictures processed so I can post them. Also might head out this afternoon after the sun swings around to the western side of the sky. Have a couple shots that I might try out.

TTFN!

Homemade biscuits and ham smothered in gravy sounds just about perfect this morning.  With a large glass of orange juice, please.

Looking for a high today in the mid-60s.  That should be just great for all of the running (well, walking) around that I have to do today.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  And to those who have been gone over the holidays, welcome to our new DD/CS, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Coffee is ready, juice is made, and hot water is on for cocoa and hot tea.  There's also some hot chocolate this morning.

On the warmer bar you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, fried taters, tater tots, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, fried country ham w/red-eye gravy.

I really don't know if we're have PRODUCE TUESDAY, but I'm up and awake early this morning, just in case.

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll be back in after awhile.

Tonight Omaha will have their New Year's Eve fireworks. They were postponed until this evening due to the snow yesterday. It's my family's tradition to watch them from the Amtrak station, so that is where we will be this evening.

I've been spending today watching SciFi channel's Twilight Zone marathon. A few hours ago they played "The Hitch-Hiker". It's probably my favorite one just for the fact that it features a train. A lady gets stuck on the train track and there is a train coming. Of course she gets off just a second before it passes. It's really quite the drama! Wink [;)]

Swtch8frog, glad to hear you made it home o.k.  And HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND SHIRL!!

I've got the next round of corned beef and cabbage and black-eyed peas ready for supper tonight.  I've also got some Mexican leftovers from Ed's birthday yesterday. Everything is on the warmer bar.  Hmm, think I'll turn on the CD player, and play some good ole train songs.  Think I hear at least one train layout , so I guess everything's all right, and on the right track, after the move to our new location.  Way to go, guys!!

...Must really be bad in some spots.  As M C mentioned of calling out a rotary....Seems they use them only when it's really bad.  At least that's the idea I get from reading about their use.

Voss can keep the island. Building a bridge to get to it would be cost prohibitive. (carryover from the now locked DD&CS)

Southeastern Colorado is a mess. Pickle factory warehouse roof in La Junta collapsed under 8 feet of snow. Hospital in Walsh has roof troubles. BNSF has called out the rotary from KC. (La Junta to Amarillo and Las Animas Junction to Hutchinson need help. 10-18 foot drifts in many places...Something tells me Ruxton to Frick to Springfield is a nightmare)

Assume switch8 was in Lamar and got out of there just in time...

Greetings to all the folks at the new Diner .
It has been a long 3 wks. since I have been here .  Been truckin' lo0ng and hard to pay for new tires  for Rattler , all 18 .  Quite a chunk out of the monetary depository. Where I've been  has snow and more snow .  The pan handle of Okla. is not desirable this past week.  Spent Xmas . at a truck stop in South Colo.  The saying bout  the Pan handle winds  is the truth , they are your constant companion and you never get used to them . Beleive it. Met an old timer in Straight  Okla. , he told me of the winds , the brim of his hat was bent up . There isn't many hot spots for wireless laptop there .  Shucked the load in Liberal Ks. and headed home , with a load for Gallup N.M.  Gonna lay up for a bit at home , not too much upholstry on the sit down bones . The best of blessings to all you folks.  Cannonball & Shirl.

For whomever asked about chocolate cake, I've been baking this morning.  There are three already frosted, and ready for a couple of days, and there's about six in the freezer.  So dessert for the next couple of days is taken care of.
