May or may not drop in tomorrow...seems the ice storm is expected to drop all the power in the Houston area sometime tomorrow morning...2 to 3 inches of ice expected...and most of our infrastructure is not designed for such extreme cold conditions...and to top it all off, our power company sent all the "extra" line men to Oaklahoma to help them out a few days ago...go figure!

Oh well, thats what they make Coleman stoves and lanterns for, and got the old Dearborne gas heater out and hooked up!

You guys stay safe, and if anyone hears from the Mookie, let me know...

Good morning, everyone.  I'm moving just a little slowly this morning.  A nice warm bed seems to do that to me sometimes, particularly when there is a holiday in the works.

I don't know how cold it got last night - below freezing - but it is 40 now, and on its way to an expected high of the mid-50s.

I'll go for the BLT and fries.

Winter conditions aren't improving around here - the rate of vehicles off the road reports on the scanner is about constant.

You may be safe on the cake today - with the holiday a certain kitty may not be in...

I think I'll go with the BLT w/fries today, and (glances nervously around the diner) a nice big piece of chocolate cake.

Well, since no one gave me any suggestions for lunch today, you'll have to make due with what I've prepared:  tuna melt casserole, BLTs w/fries or chips, vegetable beef soup, beef stew and cornbread are on today's lunch menu.

Desserts today:  chocolate pie, chocolate cake, pecan pie, and coconut cream pie.

Hope everyone is  staying warm and dry, and also hope you enjoy your lunch.

It looks like Dan is happy with the snow machine setting. I see I have disappointed a few other folks though. Looks like I still have some fine tuning to do.

Here in Omaha, there is nothing to be disappointed about. The snow really got going again yesterday evening and continued into the night. This morning I measured 5.5 to 6 inches in various places throughout the yard, so this ended up about the way I wanted it to. It's rare that that happens with the weather. Now it is 0 degrees with a windchill of -22 degrees. Winter is certainly making itself known.

I hope everyone has a great, safe, warm Monday!

The snow has stopped, the "wintry mix" has started - there's ice on my windows.  I think I'd rather have the snow.

Hearing a few reports of vehicles off the road, schools were closed anyhow.  Good day to stay home, after a walk down to the convenience store for milk and the paper. Got a couple of projects to work on, anyhow.

I just finished digging myself out, and we got far more snow than I thought we had earlier this morning. I took my recylcables out for my garbage man to pick up and when I stepped out into the snow, it was three to four inches deep. But I understand that this is nothing compared to what a lot of people in the south are having to deal with. I heard on the radio that a lot of people in the deep south are without electrical power and have had to deal with freezing rain. Right now we have a temperature of 7 degrees below 0 in Sioux Falls.

Consider it done, Ray.  Disappointing snow total here this morning- looks like less than 2 inches.  I left the snowblower in the garage and used the shovel.  I'll probably need to get it out later today, though, after the streets department gets done barricading my driveway with the stuff.

Good morning folks. I've been up for about a half an hour here and it's another COLD morning here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Right now we have a temperature of 1 degree above 0, and the wind chill leaves us at 12 below 0. The wind is out of the NW at 8 mph. It started snowing here yesterday afternoon at about 1:00, and so far we have an roughly an inch to an inch and a half of the white Censored [censored] on the ground. But the white Censored [censored] is pretty for a while.

I'll be going to a job interview with the management at our local Hobby Lobby store at 11:00 this morning, and then another interview I will be doing tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 with one of our Hy-Vee Foods stores. I've been out of work far too long, and I kind of have a gut level feeling within myself that something may finally break for me this week. So those of you who believe that God answers prayers, please keep me in your prayers. Thank you!

Good Monday morning, everyone!  At least, everyone who doesn't have today off work, due to MLKJr Day.

Dan, thanks for getting breakfast ready this morning!  I always appreciate having good help here in the DD/CS kitchen!  Unless Mookie decides to go into work, with everyone else observing the holiday, I doubt we'll see her in here today.  But maybe she'll pop in for a little visit, anyway.

I'll start with a large cup of coffee, a small glass of juice, and I'll partake of some steak tenderloin, eggs, and some biscuits and gravy, also.

Here in Louisville, KY, we are at our high for today:  60, with light rain, and heavier rain on the way.  Temps will be slowly dropping, to about 40 by 7 p.m., then we get snow coming in.  Think the snow tonight will be just flurries.  And right now, they're saying our high for tomorrow will only be 32 around here, with snow flurries.  So far, not looking for any accumulation.

Does anyone have any requests for lunch and dinner/supper tonight?  I think, here at home, we'll be having black angus steak, tenderized, with baked potatoes & salad.

Everyone have a great day, and take care.

The snow has begun here, but not with the severity they were suggesting we'd see.  It's still early in the day, though, and being a federal holiday, I hear my bed calling me back.

I was at the B&O museum over Thanksgiving, and were it not for the several still damaged locomotives surrounded by plexiglass enclosures, you wouldn't know anything had happened since my previous visit there.  It's a wonderful place to visit, and I recommend it highly.  In fact, if you are in that area, you can throw in the inner harbor (weather permitting) and run up I83 a bit (take a right at York) to Strasburg and all it has to offer the railfan.

Bearclaw and tea, please, then back to my regularly scheduled pillow.

Morning all!  First let me say....

THANK YOU WILLY!  IT'S FINALLY SNOWING!

That snow machine of yours is awesome!  On to breakfast...
Since it's snowing and I'm in an even better mood than normal we'll start the week off with steak and eggs.  It's tenderloin steak trimmed so there's no fat!  Eggs however you want 'em.  Also there'll be some instant oatmeal available for those who want lighter fare.  Mook we've got some 'beagles' left that are still fresh so you can sink your fangs into those.  All the beverages are where they need to be so have at 'em!

I went by there a couple of years ago some time after the repairs and reopening.  They did an excellent job on the roundhouse, but at least at the time there was still severe damage to several locomotives that were on the floor when the roof collapsed.  Going out there next April and I will probably go up and spend an afternoon there.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I am ready for some of that country fried chicken with all the fixin's.  Still a little early to eat dinner here on the west coast, but I had a light lunch.

Ray, it is easy to convert pics from one format to another.  One of the easiest ways is to bring the pic up in Paint, and then do a "Save As...".  So, if you have pics in formats other than JPG and have been holding out on us for that reason, well,...
