Quentin, you're in the same general area; but this is about 15 miles or so north of the "Hill".  Your general description matches quite closely otherwise.

I too, have been to Alaska, and that was in September of 2003. I went on a Holland-America cruise tour with two of my sisters, their husbands and a nephew of mine. Our cruise tour included trips on both the Alaska Railroad and the narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Route. The avatar that I am presently using is from the White Pass itself.

I think everyone should make a trip to Alaska at least once in their lifetime, and I also think it would be neat if a bunch of us forum members were to go on such a trip like this together. That would entail a lot of planning, not to mention waiting a few years just to pull such a venture off.

Very cool.  Haven't visited that part of Alaska yet- maybe someday.  I've been up to Anchorage, Seward, Valdez, and McKinley though, several times back in my single days.  Rode the Alaska RR to McKinley.

Didn't I see you wandering off with the other half of that cake?Evil [}:)]

Well, all I gots to say is that was one huge piece.  But that's okay, nobody else wanted any chocolate cake anyway (yeah, right!)

Heading for the mid 50's today.  Another beautiful sunny day here in good ol' CA.

Brian, you can have the tin boots back.  "You-know-who" didn't even notice that you ate all the chocolate cake.

Currently -1 degree here, with the same deceptive clear blue sky.

That's because you're such a young lad.  The winters around here lately pale in comparison to the ones I endured at your age.  Twenty years ago this cold snap would've put us at -20 for lows.

Beef stew and Chili are a perfect ticket for a cold day like this. I will be dropping in at the Diner shortly. It had gotten down to 19 degrees below 0 here earlier this morning, and it is slowly warming up here, at last report we had 8 degrees below 0. We have a bright, sunny, blue sky, and it looks deceptively warm outside!! It is supposed to get up to about 30 degrees here by either tomorrow or Thursday afternoon, and I would consider that a heat wave.

Dry weather but below average temperatures are on tap for the rest of the week. I hope everyone down in Missouri is doing ok, I know it's pretty nasty down there.

That's all I have this morning. Everyone have a good day!

Well, we only had 43 people show up for Produce today.  And all we got was apples and potatoes.

Gee, if we could get close enough to the derailment and fire, I'd say we'd have a weiner and marshmallow roast for lunch today.  But, I know they won't let us get that close!!  So, guess we'll just keep the DD/CS where it is, and I am now serving:  chili, beef stew, cream of broccoli soup, cornbread, open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & brown gravy, and beef w/noodles and salad.

Very strange weather here.  Clear skies, temperature of +5, four inches of snow on the ground.  Oh right...It's winter!

Coffe and a hot bowl of oatmeal should do it.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  Overslept this morning, have only been awake and up about 1/2 hour.  Not a good thing on a Produce Tuesday morning, believe you me!

Good morning, Mookie, and welcome back!  We really missed you over the weekend, and yesterday!  Now, if we can get our distinguished owner, and BC in here, the gang will all be back.  Well, we do need Tina, Mark and Dan Harmon, too.  As anyone heard from any of these people?  I will try to get in phone contact with Jim later on this morning (after Produce); worrying about his parents in Missouri, with all the power lines down, and all.  And it's been forever since we've heard form Dan the Man Harmon.  He needs to show back up with a new installment on the detective series.

Mookie, I poured your milk for you!

And Dan #2, thanks for breakfast this morning.  Think I'll take a chocolate covered, cream filled long john doughnut, and a big ole slice of chocolate cake, please, along with an extra large black coffee.

I think I hear footsteps on my front porch; but I'm not answering the door until 8 a.m.!!  You all take care, and I'll see ya on the flip side.

Neat Chad!

Today is 'Baked Goods Breakfast Day' as I've made pretty much every kind of donut I could think of plus some more 'beagles' and cream cheese.  Feel free to heat them at your leisure.  Beverages are in their usual locations.

BTW, we ended up with about 3 inches of snow total when it finally quit this afternoon.  Tonight the freezer door gets left open- my weather station says it's 6.3 degrees right now, headed for zero.
