Mutt:

I've done a couple of 'Sprint' triathlons (1/2 mile swim, 20ish mile bike, 5k/3.1 mile run) and have tremendous respect for those Iron Man triathletes.  If you can you should go watch.  It's pretty neat.

It's another drywall/help people move day today.  The curse of owning a truck!  Back in later for some 'za!

Dan, I have the utmost respect for those that want to do things like that.

I just wouldn't want to swim in the Ohio River.

(I don't swim anyway, well poor imitation of the Mutt paddle)

but with the currents and debris out there, no way!!

Joe, don't think you need the "bale wagon" or anything else to come this far south,

the only reason some people have cut their grass  in the last several days, is because

of the almost 1 inch of rain we got on Tues.  Other than that, we're about 7" shy of

our normal rainfall for the year.

Now, as far as the Heat is concerned, anybody want what we've had, you can gladly

have it!!  (PLEASE!!)

All righty, I reckon it's time for our SATURDAY PIZZA FEST!    On tonight's menu:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Canadian Bacon
3.  Cheese w/Extra Cheese
4.  Goetta
5.  Hawaiian
6.  Pepperoni/Sausage/Mushroom
7.  Sausage/hamburger
8.  Special (with all the above, except Goetta)
9.  Supreme

Hoping a lot of people come in tonight, so we don't have a lot of extras, since I made 3 extra large of each of the nine kinds of pizza!

Now, it's time for me to get back upstairs, and finish helping scrape off wallpaper.  (joy, joy)

Think I'll color outside the lines tonight and have Canadian bacon (ever go to Canada and ask for Canadian bacon?  The looks you get....)

Night - Trust me - making the little extra effort to frame your composition will pay you back in spades.  Like I said - you can change a snapshot into a portrait.

If there's something good to be said about all the rain in the upper midwest, it's that some of it might find its way east into the Great Lakes.

Well, I've decided to make at least a short appearance here in the diner this evening just to let everyone know that I'm still alive. Just haven't had the time to drop by recently and I was taking a break from the forums until things calmed down... which they have... for now anyway.

Went train watching today at one of my favorite spots. Traffic was a bit slow (4 trains in two hours. Often I'll see 6 to 8 in the same amount of time), but I met a new railfan that I haven't seen before. Real nice guy... hope to see him there again.

Welcome to the diner, Semper! Feel free to drop by whenever you like.

It's been pretty rainy. We had a good supercell move right across the city on Monday evening. Lots of reports of winds up to 80 mph in all parts of Omaha and surrounding suburbs which resulted in plenty of downed trees and powerlines. Got about two inches total for the week, so we don't need anymore for a week or two.

We had our driest June on record, but a very wet May and now a wet August have resulted in us still being 6.50 inches above average for the year. Funny how Mother Nature works.

Keiko thanks you for the Kibbles and Bits, and Angus really chowed down on the Alpo.  Fortunately he was busy enough that he didn't bother Keiko for the K&B, which is good, because I'm sure they have wheat in them, and he's allergic....

Sorry there was only half a can for Angus, I had to have some supper first.

As for the kitty... I'll start sneezin' the moment it steps on my property and by the time it gets close enough to leave its callin' card I'll have been so itchy as to have started takin' pot shots at it to get it to retreat.

Besides, the chocolate is always confiscated by the Porcelain Managerie as soon as I get it home, (dem Dolls is a eatin' me outta house and home, and they keep makin' faces at me when I ain't lookin', too).

Dan, better take Joe's offer on the "baling wagon".

SV Welcome,Sign - Welcome [#welcome] just make sure and leave some really good Kibbles for me.

Joe, Thanks for taking care of things this morning; after the thunderstorm yesterday

afternoon and our temps cooled down a lot, we apparently decided to sleep in this morning,

(went from 90 something to 70 something this morning, we did not hit the predicted

high of 100 something yesterday.)

and I've been on the computer doing other things, so CW hasn't had a chance to even

say Hi.(she will be in after a few.)

Duff, your pictures looked very good, take Larry's and others advice. For all the "good"

pictures I've ever taken, I have at least a dozen that weren't.  As far as Larry's advice goes,

He said to take lots of pictures; the only thing I could add to that it to; take Lots and Lots

of pictures!!

Here's one of my decent shots (not that good)

And here is a poor one. (you should see how many I deleted to get this one, and it ain't good)

Good Sunday morning (uh, afternoon), everyone!  Joe, thanks for breakfast this morning!!  And, even though I'm just getting in the Diner, I've been very busy fixing SUNDAY DINNER for  you all.  On the menu:

1.  Chicken and dumplings

2.  Meat loaf w/shelly beans, corn (mix of yellow and white), stewed tomatoes (I call them baked tomatoe pie, because of the biscuits and sugar in them),

3.  Roast beef, potatoes and carrots w/shelly beans,  broccoli and cheese sauce, cauliflower, sliced tomatoes, cole slaw, and corn

4.  Fried chicken w/mashed taters and gravy, corn on the cob, shelly beans, broccoli and cheese sauce, and sliced tomatoes.

OH!!:  Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner, SV.  And when you next visit, bring extra chocolate, not only for the kitty, but for the cook, also!!  I'm another choclaholic around here.

Hope everyone has a terrific afternoon, and hope you all see plenty of train action.  Hmmm, think I hear a train coming by the DD/CS!!  Gotta go watch!!

I've got everything replenished on the warmer bar (since it looks like no one was here, until Joe came in).  And Joe, there are containers ready in the fridge, with a variety of the meats and poultry, and the side dishes, for you and Lance for work tonight.

For everyone else, get off the tracks, and come fill up your plates!!  Been a beautiful day around here, and very pleasant and comfortable outside.  If you want, take your plates out to the patio, or up on the deck!!

I guess we missed a lot at the Diner . We bug outta here Tues. for SLC to load for Minot N.D. A flat spot in Mont. is hard to find ,it seems the state is all mountains . Really pretty tho. Temps. in the 70s. down to 50s. at nite. All is well with us and the equip.  Gonna pick up a load back from a mine for fuel. We willtake a cup of coffee and go to the deck and watch the sunset. ....Cannonball:  Your conversations come thru to the point of doing hard work, but you seen to like your over the road trucking type of life.

Seem to enjoy where ever it happens to be....by making the best of it.

You really seem to get all over the country and must have seen a lot, and all kinds of situations.

Good luck, and keep on trucking as that seems to be your thing to be doing......

'Mutt's estimate of one good picture in a dozen is optimistic.  One in a "roll" (24 or 36, your choice) is really more like it.  The nice part about digitals is that you can shoot dozens and dozens, and if they're bad enough, delete them.  Just remember, that lousy shot of a beat up old (name a railroad here) engine might be worth its weight in gold someday...

Was perusing a local news website today that had a link to a story about the tornados in Michigan over the weekend.  I have friends living in Fenton, which was about the hardest hit by the biggest of the twisters.  Heard from one of them today - she wasn't far from the action but suffered no damage or injury.  Fenton is about 20 miles from where I used to live - I took my driver's road test there lo, those many years ago....

A friend of mine's sister-in-law had a car that didn't get an oil change for it's first 24,000 or so.  She didn't know....

...

When I was married, my wife drove the car and I rode a Moped (all seasons, all weather... rain, heat, snow...) and since I wasn't driving the car, I forgot about oil changes, etc.  She drove it for 7 years.  Then we got a better car (and the Moped bit the dust) and I got the old car.  I changed the oil twice myself and the filter once (hard to reach and I just didn't feel like fighting it).

Then she divorced me and I got that car (she got the nice one).  I could not afford to take it anyplace and the appartment complex didn't allow open hoods (!!!) so I drove it another 7 years without changing the oil.  I got rid of the car when the CV joint began to click loudly in left turns and I was "warned!" that meant they were about to fly apart and cause a fatal wreck.  I was told the repair was about $2,500.  So I traded it in for a newer used car.

The car I traded it in for didn't click when I test drove it, but did so on the way home after I bought it.  I drove it for several years and complained to my son about what I assummed would be the same cost to repair... he says; "I can do that for just a couple of hundred!"  I drove that one another 4 or 5 years and never changed the oil in it either.  Got rid of it due to the body rusting away.

Car I have now, I changed the oil in it every 3,000 miles after I got it and after about 6 months I noted the temperature gauge wandering all over the place in the winter.  I checked the oil the next day and it was all white and frothy.  Leak in the head gasket between the oil and water passages.  Replaced the engine with one from a wreck (had only 400 miles on it!)  I have had the oil and filter changed twice since (week after the engine was installed per the recommendation of the shop that installed it and once before a long trip about a year later).  The "new" engine now has about 60,000 miles on it.

This is Diana in the same state:

Sorry, they got the whole bag before I got back.

I just can't turn my back on any of 'em.  After I got them cleaned up, I boiled the washrag to make some cocoa for me to drink with the last of the Kibbles and Bits.

Good Monday morning folks!  It's a nice, cool morning here, going for a high of 90, I believe is what I heard on the morning weather report.

Coffee, juices, tea and lemonade are freshly made.  Breakfast this morning:  bacon, sausge, hash browns, scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits and sausage gravy.

One of you will have to take care of lunch today for me:  I will be at the hospital, having my pre-op bloodwork and other tests for my knee surgery next month.  Have NO idea what time I'll be home.  But I know I'm leaving the Diner in good hands, with all the good helpers I have here.  You all have a great day, take care, and I'll see you all later this afternoon.

(creak...)  Anyone home?

School starts today, so hiding out in here until all students find their way to class.

SV - like your dollies.  They are beautiful.  Even with the chocolate.

I am going to go to a quiet corner and dunk my morning beagle.  Which reminds me - went to B & N for our Sat late morning coffee.  They couldn't make anything through the coffee steamer, (broken) so we had to settle for regular coffee (my usual choice anyway, but Driver likes the Lattes.)

That will put a lot of fur on your head!  I like it, but it really is pretty strong.

High 90's today - must rest, must really rest hard....
