Good Friday morning, everyone!  And. . .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE AND SIS !!!! Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday]

For Birthday breakfast, on the warmer bar, you all will find:  turkey bacon, pancakes w/plenty of butter and syrup, sausage links and patties, scrambled eggs, blueberry muffins, and bear claws.  There is a candle in one of the blueberry muffins, for you, Joe.

Mudchicken, that's okay, about the 'dust' in the beef noodles.  Accidents to happen, you know; cause I know you didn't do it intentionally!!

Lance, have a safe trip.

Joe, hope you enjoy your birthday today, and is there anything special you'd like for lunch and supper tonight?  We don't have to go with the regular Friday Fish menu, if you'd like something else for your birthday!!

We're getting ready, weather-wise, for  storms to come through.  Said we may even have hail with the storms.   Man, I hate to have to close the windows because of thunderstorms.

Everyone have a great morning, and see you all after awhile.

Looks like Brian may have gotten some decent storms tonight. Perhaps he will provide us with a report?

No kidding...

Actually, here in Cedar Rapids we're "relatively" high and dry, with "only" 0.75 inches in my rain gauge.  The folks up around Waterloo and down around Iowa City weren't so lucky- upwards of three inches in both places.  Waterloo got doused last night, and Iowa City got theirs early this morning.  As I type this, though, things are starting to get pretty active outside my window here at work- it's getting darker with lightning and thunder, and the rain is beginning to fall again.

I hope I don't need a boat to get to Galesburg tomorrow...

.....And finally, some more rain to add to the one inch we got two days ago.  .55" over night.  We were forecast to get storms starting about 2 am but I heard none.  And it looks like we'll see some more rain today.  We sure do need it all.

Better warn the tractor it will be put back to work in a few days....Haven't mowed in 13 days...!  Unusual for me, normally doing it each 3 or 4 days.  No rain, no grass growing...

65 degrees now at about 8 am.

Everyone have a good day.

We had a huge thunderstorm come through Sioux Falls shortly after midnight this morning, and I woke up to the loudest thunder-boom-booms I'd heard in a long time. And the sky was lit up brilliantly with constant lightning. I should have made an attempt to photograph it, but I rolled over in my bed and went back to sleep. We got nearly an inch and a half of rain out of this storm system, I only wish it could have been diverted to other parts of the country that are really dry. We have 64 degrees right now, and it is supposed to warm up to about 82 later this afternoon. The humidity here though has been a real killer the last few days.Dead [xx(]

Happy B-Day [bday] Joe! Hope you have a great one (and your sis, too)!

Chad - Rim,River,Rim in August (which I'm assuming is a lot like May)? Color me impressed (and a bit humbled!)

Willy - Thanks for turning the heat down...if only the the lower 90's. I'm not a fan of living in an oven, so if you want to continue that trend, please be my guest!

Well, I must be on my way. Have four pooches that I must attend to over the weekend along with my regular duties. Hope you all have a great day!

Hummm...

After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that Chris can non railroad photograph us to death if these are just samples...

But from someone who lives in a swamp, that place looks awful dry!

Great photos, Chris, keep it up...

Joe, Happy birthday...Matt on cake duty?

Morning All,

Ray, congrats on the promotion!

Well, today is a big day for me. I finally got all my stuff from the recent Grand Canyon (with brief stops at Petrified Forest and Arches NP) trip up on my website! (I get excited about the minor accomplishments in life sometimes Wink [;)]).

I thought I might put up a few of my favorites to add a little Southwest flavor to the DD&CS. Sorry for the non-railroad content:

If you are so inclined, and wish to see more, I made a gallery on my PBase site.

Meanwhile, we'll be flirting with the century mark in much of the state again. That kind of reminds me of the GC Trip. We hiked to the bottom of the canyon while there. The temperature that greeted us at Bright Angel Campground (near Phantom Ranch) was 99ºF in the shade! (The temperature at the bottom of the canyon is usually 15-20º hotter than the rim temperature). When coming up the next day, I drank more than 3 gallons of water, and I still wasn't keeping hydrated as I should have been!

Well, I must be on my way. Hope you all have a great day. Stay cool!

Happy Birthday Joe!! Happy B-Day [bday]

Congrats to everyone who is getting the rain. I hope you get more to ease the drought conditions that are happening. I am very unhappy though because we didn't get a single drop of rain last night here in Omaha. Angry [:(!] We have one more chance this afternoon and then nothing for at least seven days, so everyone please pray that we get something today. So far in June Omaha has only measured 0.23 hundredths of an inch, so we are very dry.

I am going to get my driver's license today, so by late this afternoon I could train watch on my own. Of course, my parents say that that won't happen for at least another month. Oh well. A month will go by pretty fast. And it is just as well. I do need a bit more practice before I can just go running all over the place on my own. In Driver's Ed they said it takes more than two years of driving before a person can be considered an experienced driver so I'm still on the very inexperienced side of the spectrum.

I'll check in again later this afternoon to join in the festivities for Joe's birthday.

Well - Happy Birthday to today's honorees.  I'll be in for cake later.

Fire apparatus at the ready.Wink [;)]

They kept threatening us with severe storms yesterday, but they never amounted to much.  Did put a damper on activities at the Moving Wall (travelling Viet Nam Memorial), but they carried on nonetheless.

Today was safety day here at work - many of the units and activities put up safety awareness displays.  Ours was based on fire safety - and included some actual fire.  We assembled a small wall with a window, scorched it good (an old-fashioned rag torch worked wonders) and put a burned stuffed animal in the window.  We also built a small fire out of sight behind it so the was smoke wafting around the display.  Looked pretty good.

Back to the grind...  On the bright side - I get three train rides tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Joe

Great shots of the Grand Canyon.  It is on my list of places to visit, though at this stage the only way I get down to the bottom and back is on the escaltors when they are insatlled.

Another half inch of rain here last night.  No shortage here for now and lawn looks great.

Got to run to the dentist now and other errands for the day.  My reward is a trip to Galesburg tomorrow.  Should hit the Trains tent by noon.

Well, since I haven't heard from Joe, about a special birthday menu, I've gone ahead and fixed our FRIDAY FISH FRY for lunch.  Maybe we'll have heard and have something different for supper tonight.  On the menu:  cod, catfish, flounder, hallibut, perch and shrimp, along with fries, cole slaw, and a chocolate w/chocolate frosting decorated with HAPPY BIRTHDAY greetings on it.

HAPPY EATING, EVERYONE!

Good morning, everyone!  Gee, looks like action in here was "dead" last night.  Especially since no one was in, after I fixed supper, and set it out on the warmer bar.  I came in this morning, and had to clean everything off the warmer bar, and wash everything up.  Oh well.

Coffee, juice and hot tea, along with freshly squeezed lemonade are ready.

Breakfast is laid out on the breakfast bar:  doughnuts, muffins of all kinds/flavors.  And there's some bear claws, if Larry gets to make it before heading out for his day on the rails.

Everyone have a good day, and be careful whatever you do today, and wherever you go.

I would say that the past 24 hours might be the quietest 24 hours the Diner has ever experienced. It's just been dead in here. I guess that means more pizza for me, though. Dinner [dinner]

The UP 844 comes into Fremont tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, so I will be leaving the house at about 8:00 AM to head to Fremont and see it and get pictures. If the pictures turn out good, I'll post a few.

Good morning, everyone.  We're getting some more rain this morning.   Don't know about here at home last night, but we were in the east end of Metro Louisville, and it was raining very much.  For awhile, it was a good downpour, from what I heard in the restaurant we were at.  When we finished our meal, it was still pouring.  When we got home, about 10:30, you could see a few damp spots in the parking lot across the street, and a few damp spots on our sidewalk.   Not sure about the total rainfall amounts for last night.

Coffee, juices, tea and lemonade are freshly made, and for breakfast, we have leftover pizzas from last night!

We're to have more rain today, looks like it's going to be the off and on kind.  Don't think anything is to be too serious, just showers.  Everyone have a good Sunday!!

Hey, another beautiful day. Hope everyone is having a glorious sunday. Just our of bed after a late night putting away the big toys (Dash 9s) and looking forward to a 16oz glass of OJ and a bagel with lox and CC...

Gonna kick back with a favorite book, "The Railroad, What it is, What it does" to try and learn a bit more about how the RR is SUPPOSED to run and I'm hoping to spark up the BBQ and clam steamer later unless there's something better goin' on here. Perhaps I could bring the steamer and a couple big bags of littlenecks if there is interest...

Have a golden day...
