Willy - verrry interesting. Sounds like a reasonably good summer, tho.
Dan - I loved Tom Clancy and always figured his novels had a lot of "it will happen" in them. Thanx for the paw opener - fanfare is nice touch, altho not necessary. It will play at an inoppor"tune" time and then someone will throw rocks!
MC - they can't come. It's too far for them, so I am going to have to devise another way to get out that way. Maybe a westbound GE? Wonder if they would mind if I just sat in the corner and didn't open ma mouf? .....guess that isn't gonna happen either......
Drat - another missed opportunity!
PS - Dan - Ken Follett books always made my hair stand on end, too! He was sooooo good!

Many tanx CW.
Why did Mooks have the new screen door hinged on the floor? Fly swatter/ Atom smasher? industrial size waffle iron?
I've got a couple of his books also Mook. They're not bad.
I'm guessing that the door is hinged so as to be surviveable the next time someone steps on the catitude.

One of my favorite authors, along with Clive Cussler. I love to keep track of what Jack Ryan and Dirk Pitt are up to. I'll have to check out a Joe Buff book- does he have a recurring character?

Yes, but it doesn't taste very good!!
Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler are a couple of my favorite authors.
I have most of Tom Clancy's books in my meager library.

Uh sorry Randy, guess we'll have to check the door again.
Someone must have reset the Paw Switch.

Captain Jeffrey Fuller, USN is one of the recurring characters in the books. Start with 'Deep Sound Channel' as I believe it is the first book of the series. Tactical undersea combat using submarines...pretty neat/scary/could happen somedayish.
*Note: check switch.
Another quiet day in here...maybe the air freshener needs to be changed! I'll put in this one...//plugs in AirWick 'Diesel Aroma'//...ahh...much better!
Well, I won't be around this weekend. I'm going to Folkston for two days so, I'll miss out on the Pizza fest. There will always be next weekend though. I usually see 60-80 trains in two days so it's worth the 6 hour drive. Have a great evening.
MC thanks for the info.matt and i are keeping our eyes out on the diamond.csx has had tonka toys ballasting and re-spiking track all over.the new door seems to be working good now.just dont get your fingers caught in this one!!!(or tail).cw thanks for supper.

Joe, you're welcome! I made enough of everything this morning, so we have for tonight's supper menu: beef and noodles, open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, boiled cabbage, steamed cauliflower, and sweet green peas.
There's also plenty of chocolate and angel food cake for dessert, w/ice cream to top the cake of your choice with.
Everyone enjoy your supper and evening.

Good evening.
Not much happening here in the great city of Omaha this evening. The local TV stations are saying that at 9:52 PM CDT we should be able to see the International Space Station go overhead, so I'm planning on going outside and trying to spot it.
Like usual, all of the teams in the CWS that I'm rooting for are getting eliminated. It always works that way. I should root for the teams that I don't like and then maybe the ones that I do like will succeed.
A few storms tonight, a few more tomorrow night and Friday. At least that's what our local forecasters say. I'm not sold on it, however. We'll see.
Time to go watch the CWS and see if Oregon State will lose since I'm hoping they win. TTFN.

We've got some rain on the way with some embedded thunder-boomers. I'm hoping it's not too severe but we should get some needed rain out of it. I think I'll put away my rain dancing shoes for a while.
On a door-related note I'll make sure the DDCS backup generator has fuel and is connected to the door in case of power outage. The foam padding and clearance lights are marked so there shouldn't be any surprises when the door opens anymore. I also dialed back the pneumatic pressure so it shouldn't pop open too fast. (Sorry Randy!) There's some ice in the fridge with your name on it.
^yawn^ - (open my mouf and ma face disappears!)
It humid, no breeze, nice morning to just not move.
Let's talk books/authors: To give you an idea of what I like to read - I am reading James Lee Burke right now - but like Stuart Woods, James Patterson, some Nelson DeMille, Jeffrey Deaver, Sandra Brown, Sue Grafton, "The Cat Who" books, Janet Evanovich anything.... and anything that happens to be on the best-selling list. But those are some of my favorites. I don't usually do historical; I am really surprised I enjoyed Tom Clancy, since he is DEEP, but his characters were great. As I said yesterday - Ken Follett was one of my all time favorites. The Key to Rebecca and the Eye of the Needle were fabulous. And of course, I have Harry Potter's last book on order. There are more, but those come to the front of my pointed head.
Anyone have any further suggestions for me or the group as a whole?
Good morning, everyone! We're at a very comfortable 60 degrees this morning, and it feels really nice outside.
Coffee is on and ready; fresh juices are made, and in the cooler; hot water for hot tea, and there's a freshly brewed ice tea in the cooler.
On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs w/cheese, home fries, pancakes, waffles and french toast.
On the subject of books, I'll read almost everything, from autobiographies, biographies, fiction, mysteries, romance; but, don't give me very gory books, or books on the supernatural. And I love anything that is about trains, or has a train theme.
Everyone have a great morning, and if any of you have a special request for meals today, let me know, please. I'll try my best to oblige all requests.
Well if you like outdoor humor try Patrick McManus. He used to write for Outdoor Life magazine and has several books published. Michael Crichton's books (Jurassic Park, Sphere, etc) are pretty good page turners.
The weekend starts for me today at 1:00.01 CST and I can't wait! I love paid vacation time! I think I'll chase to Ripon and maybe down to Horicon today and see what I can see.
Generaly speaking, I am not into reading fictional works, but I used to read a lot of the westerns that were written by the late Louis L'Amour. He had written a few books that were hard to put down, even though they were fictional in nature, but almost everything that Louis L'Amour had written was based on historical fact. Two of his books that I would recommend include "Bendigo Shafter" and "The Walking Drum".
Yesterday afternoon I had received a promotion of sorts in my part time job working for Wendy's. On Friday of this past week, toward the end of my shift, the manager at Wendy's told me that she thinks I'm a jewel. And then yesterday afternoon she had remarked to me that it had been a pretty busy day for all of us, and that she thought I was doing a real good job. I responded by telling her that if she could give me more hours, I would be happy to work them. She was happy hearing this from me and she told me that beginning with Saturday morning, the 30th of June, I would be scheduled to work from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. She wants to put me to work on the sandwich line and will train me for that responsibility. Since I started working for Wendy's in mid-February this year, she has discovered that I am very reliable and consistant in my work habits. The added hours will certainly add up to larger pay checks.
Ray
Good for you, Ray! Maybe you can slide a grilled chix sand and chili (milk please) across the table for me? Put the charges on Mutt's nose.
If you liked Louis L'Amour, did you ever read Bret Harte (Outcasts of Poker Flats)? That goes back a few years for me, but I enjoyed that particular book.
Where is Joe this morning? Maybe he is coming and I am going deaf....
.
The clouds are thickening here- looks like we might get some rain sooner or later.
Dan, that bruise looks nasty.

good morning
mookie I was doing chores and giving the rabbits some fresh cut clover to eat.yard could really use some rain.as for books I would need a years vacation to go into Carls dungeon and look over all that he has.Ray congrats on the promotion keep up the good work!!! hey Dan I noticed the improvements on the door.I wonder who put the combination lock on the kitty door? time for bed.
Joe
Congratulations Ray!
I enjoy reading, but I haven't read any of the books that are currently being discussed in here. At this time, I'm in the process of plowing through The Scarlet Letter since that is the book that the Honors English students are forced to read over the summer. It's actually not too bad, but I would prefer to not have to answer questions on it and just be able to read it and enjoy it.
Brian - You've got rain coming this evening, tonight, and tomorrow. Could be quite a bit. In fact, it's the rain that was supposed to hit us tonight, but the system is going to go farther east than originally expected. You wouldn't mind collecting some of it and sending it this way via Union Pacific, would you?
Ok, I think I've covered all the bases this morning. Everyone have a good day!
Morning All,
Ray, congrats on the promotion!
Well, today is a big day for me. I finally got all my stuff from the recent Grand Canyon (with brief stops at Petrified Forest and Arches NP) trip up on my website! (I get excited about the minor accomplishments in life sometimes ).
I thought I might put up a few of my favorites to add a little Southwest flavor to the DD&CS. Sorry for the non-railroad content:
If you are so inclined, and wish to see more, I made a gallery on my PBase site.
Meanwhile, we'll be flirting with the century mark in much of the state again. That kind of reminds me of the GC Trip. We hiked to the bottom of the canyon while there. The temperature that greeted us at Bright Angel Campground (near Phantom Ranch) was 99ºF in the shade! (The temperature at the bottom of the canyon is usually 15-20º hotter than the rim temperature). When coming up the next day, I drank more than 3 gallons of water, and I still wasn't keeping hydrated as I should have been!
Well, I must be on my way. Hope you all have a great day. Stay cool!

Chris-no apology needed, those are some nice shots.
Joe-I have no idea who put that lock on there but 'twasn't I!
