The chops are even good warmed up!

Was on the road today for work, part of which route put me alongside the CSX Montreal Secondary for a while.  South of Philadelphia, NY, I saw something out of the ordinary - yellow, and looked almost like passenger equipment at first glance (I was driving, which meant I couldn't stare - much).  Turned out to be a rail grinder - a first for me.  They'd definitely been working - the center of the consist was black.  The person riding with me noticed that, too.

A couple of hours later, a fire department up the line a bit (at a point we'd passed before we saw the grinder) got called out for a grass fire, undoubtedly started by the grinder and missed by the track car driver who was following them.

The funny part was the description apparently given by the person reporting the fire, who said that a train had passed the spot about 45 minutes earlier, and was generating a lot of "black smoke..."

Good Tuesday morning everyone!  Looks like another beatiful, but very, very warm day today (at least in the Ohio River Valley).

Coffee is on, fresh juices are made, and there's hot tea brewing for our tea drinkers.

On the breakfast/warmer bar, you'll find all the usual breakfast items, including some fresh pineapple, cantaloupe and watermelon chunks and grapes.

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll see you all after I get through with Produce Tuesday.

Ugh...is it morning alread?  I dressed in the dark this morning and think I must have grabbed my 125 year old birthday suit.  I think it is the high humidity doing the dastardly deed this morning.

Tree - aren't those grinders fun to watch.  We have the whole set up through here quite a bit - the grinders, the inspectors, the "munchers" as the Driver calls them (ballast) and who knows what all.  We have also seen some rail trains going through to parts unknown.  When they are all connected, they look like a long, yellow, rather large worm.

Still have a bobcat on the premises, but we are undergoing a complete landscaping now.  Parking lot out back should be safe for cars in about another day or two.  They did a nice job and also sloped it for run off - I know - I dropped an apple this morning in the dark and could just barely see it as it rolled away from the back door.  I dare you to try that half-asleep in the dark! - Or just learn from my experience!

Nite...

Wish I'd seen it in action - they were on a siding, taking a break, I think.  I probably could have chased it in the evening, but I had stuff to do at home.

CN had one between Oshkosh and Neenah a while back (a grinder-not an apple and bobcat!).  My fiancee called to tell me that she thought the tracks were on fire as she drove past it!  I asked her to describe what she saw and she described a grinder.  I couldn't get pics because it was near an area where only US41 is near the tracks and there's no safe place to stop.  They are neat.  What's for lunch?  I'm feeling mexican of some variety if nobody has any other suggestions.

I've got the nachos cheese/meat, and chips plus taco meat, lettuce, cheese, tomatos, olives, and tortilla shells on the warmer bar.  I've also got some refried beans, sour cream, guac, salsa (mild, Mid, and HOT!) plus some taco sauce for other condiments.  Ole!  Eat up!

I also got two more jobs today:
-Head Bouncer at a local bar
-Lead Personal Trainer for the Police Department
so now I've got plenty to do to keep me busy when I'm not at my 40 hr/wk job!  Plus being in here...

Good afternoon, folks!  Dan, thank you so much for fixing lunch today!  It was after 11, when I got back to the house from Produce.   Then I took a very short nap.

We served 62 people today.  Had two trucks deliver the produce today.  We got potatoes, apples, lemons, lettuce, orange juice, limeade, fresh pineapples, bananas, and sweet potatoes.

Dan, think I'll continue the Mexican Fiesta for supper tonight.  Sounds pretty good to me, and I'll have everything on the patio by about 6:30 EDT this evening.  We'll add quasadillas and enchiladas, along with some other Mexican dishes tonight.

You're quite welcome CW.  I never mind doing my part.  These burritos sure are hitting the spot today.  I'll be on the patio for a bit.

Dan - the Driver used to do karate with quite a few of Lincoln's finest.  I used to watch them in the state games - would not have wanted to meet any of them in a dark or lighted alley!

Joe - our landlord uses a mower, a trimmer and a leafblower, about every 3rd day.  Wonder if our rent will go up.....Big Smile [:D]

Lunch over - nap time.....

Oh - rain here and there and headed east - Brian put your boots on!

....Spokyone....The only way to make it look better, use a 2.5 gal can and then you can get away with only $8.00.....ha.....That's a record for me, filling my gas can for that amount.  I can mow my 25,000 sq. ft. with that 5 times.....{14 horse John Deere}.

At those rates, that makes it $96.00 / season gasoline cost to mow my yard.

I don't even want to have to think about buying a lawn mower (which would be stolen around here, anyway) or gasoline for it!  Glad a friend mows the yard free of charge.  But next month, I'm going to try to get him to take some payment, to help him out with the gas for his mower and gas trimmer.

Joe and Lance, containers are made up and in the fridge for you two to take to work tonight.

Okay, everyone, our TUESDAY NIGHT MEXICAN FIESTA is now under way, on the patio.  But, you WILL have to go inside the Diner, to fill your plates.  I decided to cook in AC this afternoon!  We're at 85 or 86 degrees here at 6:17 p.m. EDT.  The cool breeze from this morning, has turned into a very warm breeze this evening.Sad [:(]

Everyone enjoy your supper, and have a good evening.

It's trying to rain around here, but all we're getting is light showers.  Humidity isn't high enough yet.

I'll take one of everything from the Mexican spread!

Not much rain expected tonight here in Omaha. Mookie has a slightly better chance of seeing some late tonight. Our time for storms will be tomorrow, tomorrow night, and Thursday morning. Severe storms will be possible and we could get a couple of inches of rain. If things keep going the way they are, this May might try to get into the record books as one of the wettest Mays ever for Omaha. We'll just wait and see what the next few days bring.

Now I'm going to spend a totally exciting evening studying for exams. What could be more thrilling?

Hey Willy. Here in northwestern Illinois we are very dry this month. The storms have passed to the south or west mostly. Good news is the corn was planted, then we had some rain. We should be OK if it rains before too much longer

Yep, you've got a chance of rain Thursday and Thursday night, but over the weekend too. It looks like much of the central plains/midwest is going to get into kind of a messy weather pattern for at least the next week.

Bob - Surprisingly, the NOAA drought monitor does not have northwest Illinois in a drought yet. I have a feeling that if you don't get rain soon, that will change. You've got a chance later this week and over the weekend too, so hopefully that will get things moist again.

Back to studying!!

You can keep that rain out in the midwest for a couple more days (actually waiting until after the holiday weekend would be nice, too).  My tower guys are almost done and don't need another rain delay.  It's no fun working 180' in the air in the rain....

Neighbor mowed his lawn today.  Usually he just mows right up to the driveway (I own maybe two feet off the edge of it), but today he left a couple of feet unmowed.  What's up with that? (Rhetorical question - you need not answer....)

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  Coffee is brewing, tea is brewing for fresh iced tea (sweetened and unsweetened), also have hot water on for hot tea this morning; have made fresh oj, oj/tangering/tomato, pineapple juice and apple juice.

On the breakfast/warmer bar, you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, hash browns, fresh pineapple slices, sliced tomatoes and sliced apples.  There's also a variety of cold cereals sitting on the counter.

This is REQUEST WHAT YOU WANT FOR LUNCH AND DINNER DAYSo, I want to hear some ideas/requests from you all, as to what you'd like to eat today.

Everyone have a good morning, and if you need me, I'll be in the garden, on the glider, enjoying nature this morning.  Anyone who wants to join me there, is welcome.

CW - the one burning question we have at our humble abode each day - "what's for supper"....this is as agonizing as "where shall we eat breakfast" on Saturday morning!  I can make life & death decisions (shall we watch trains, what to wear to work, etc) but can't seem to figure out supper and Sat breakfast.

I would like chicken  beef noodle soup and oyster crackers for lunch and porcupine meatballs with a broccoli/raisin/sunflower seed/apple salad for supper.

Willy - it drooled at our house and 37 blocks north of us on UNL campus - it puddled!  Nothing on radar right now.

Both were headed east when I checked in with weather channel.

Bobcat and dirt gone!  Parking lot open for business and the Driver used both sides of the driveway to get to the street - just because he could!  He Big Smile [:D] the whole way!

Glad to hear the Driver can drive in the drive way again.  I'll bet he was smiling!  Ms Moo I'm perplexed a bit.  What is a Porcupine Meatball?  I've never heard of that.  The soup and crackers sound good for lunch to me also.

A RR note: I finally got the picture of the CP GP40 near sunset uploaded on my website.  I forgot how loud that bright red is in the setting sun.  Check the homepage on my website out if you wanna see it.
