Hi Joe,

Sorry about that, but I couldn't hear a thing on the phone with a train going by, not to mention cell service is hit and miss up there anyway. Heard you and Matt had a good time railfanning in Chicago recently. I sure would like to get out there to Chicago one of these days myself.

Anyway I am haveing problems trying to post pics from this computer (here at home) so it will have to wait till I get a free moment at work.

TTFN,

Congrats, Dan!

Well, it's pretty warm here today. The temperature is 78 degrees. More of the same is expected over the next couple of days before some storms on Wednesday.

I've got a little last minute homework to do, so TTFN.

Ooohh - I don't think I can move after all that food.  If someone is headed back in to the warmer bar, would they mind filling my plate up again?  Another burger, some potato salad, what's for dessert again?

I'm hoping to get back on my bike after work today and catch a train or two (wishful thinking) on the IC line.

Good afternoon!  Well, I just  woke up from a nap.  My throat seems to be getting a tad bit worse.  Guess it's time to start gargling with some salt water.  The lemon & honey cough drops aren't working toowell today.  Oh well.

At least it's a very warm day, about 85 or 86 right now, outside.

I've got burgers, steaks, pork chops, hot dogs & brats off the grill, and they're on the warmer bar:  along with baked beans and corn on the cob.  On the other end, where I have chopped ice, you will find:  potato salad, cole slaw, strawberry cheesecake, cherry cheesecake, and banana pudding (homemade from scratch, I might add.

So everyone fill a plate or two, and head out on the patio, to a table, and watch the trains go by!

Congrats, Dan!

We just finished feasting on some grilled steaks here, and then sent our daughter and future son-in-law on their way back to Des Moines.  It's an absolutely gorgeous day here, 77.5 degrees on the weather station with bright sunshine.  Time to head down to the Menards store to get some lawn care items...

Morning all!  Thanks for the congratulatory notes.  I'll post pics when appropriate.  I had the pleasure today of starting to show the next generation (12/13) how neat trains can be.  I took the neighborhood kids watching with me this morning and this afternoon we're going to the model RR club (I have keys!  YAHOO!) because they had so much fun this morning.  I'm glad they found this 'stuff' neat.  Back for dinner later!

Tyler and I had a great time with Joe, Stacey, and Mat also. Cincinnati Union Terminal was really hopping around with visitors.  They have the Titanic display going on. The wife and I are planning on going next weekend.

I have forgotten what it was like to have a five year old around. He is a very inquisitive young man. He's as sharp as a tack. And yes, he loves those trains. I'll get to look forward to that in 5 years from now with my daughter.

It was a great time and now I'm getting myself ready to head down towards Lexington. This will probably be the last weekend to explore these abandoned railroads in the state until next fall. The blooms are on their way out now.

Good Sunday morning to everyone!  Dan, congratulations!

Yes, Joe, I yelled so much, I've got a bit of a sore throat this morning!!  But, I'll survive.

Thanks so much for putting the coffee on, making the juice, and breakfast!  Sure does look and smell very, very good!  Think I'll help myself to two pancakes, and two sausages, and a little bit of the eggs.

Sounds like you all had a terrific time in Cincy yesterday.  Wish we could have made it up that way, but things just didn't work out that way.

Going to be an even warmer day today, supposed to get to 86 here today.  So think I'll warm up the grill on the patio for Sunday Dinner today.  So I'll be in the kitchen, preparing all the side dishes, along with preparing the meats to go on the grill.

Excellent day, today. We did experience some pretty heavy rain on Intersate 80 between Omaha and Lincoln, but things cleared out about the time we reached the symposium. There were some excellent presentations and also some very exciting storm chase videos from 2006. One presentation was on climate change and another on winter storms. There were also several others that I enjoyed.

We left the symposium at about 1:30 and spent a little over an hour with Mookie and The Driver at Camp Mookie. Five trains wenty by: four were coal and one was a manifest. Finally, we had a very nice dinner.

Overall, today was a very enjoyable day. It's too bad more days can't be this much fun.

.....66 degrees as we near sundown.  Partly cloudy...Finally, not raining and kinda nice.  Woe for people here in Indiana in low lying locations.  We have had a lot of rain and river is over banks and into the flood plain most places.

Upcoming week forecast is for 5 days of hi temps of 78 degrees and just a chance of rain each day.  Bushes and some some trees are now ready to sprout out green.  My lawn will have to be mowed this coming week.

Winter has gone....{might not be quite dead, but for now, gone...}.

Rare we have any bad Winter consequences this late in the season.

But with wild weather swings now happening everywhere one never knows.

If we can stay away from the wild Spring nasty weather this is my favorite time of the year upcoming into the real Springtime....

I will take a whole Hawaiian pizza, please!  Mmmmmmmmm...

I did some biking today and mosyed around the old IC line through Champaign.  I found a really nice place where a parking lot sits right up against a siding (3' off the edge of the tie).  You can see from the Amtrak station to the north all the way to the south of town off towards Tolono.  It is too bad there aren't more trains per day on that line.

STarted out nice this morning, then Mother Nature (or was that Willy's machine?) decided we needed a quarter inch of rain.  It's stopped now.

Emma - Nice show on your events!  I ran track and cross country in high school.  One track event that was part novelty, part serious, was the shot put relay - essentially a half mile relay (800 meters) run by shot putters carrying shot puts instead of batons.  I helped them with handoff practice once - not as easy as it might sound....

Off to dinner with a neighboring FD...

Congrats on shot and disc Emma.  I played with those implements of destruction back in HS and that was a blast!

Willy I hope the weather holds (read that either way!) for your convention.  I'm sure you guys wouldn't mind too much a live example of what's being talked about...within reason.

Off to the jewelry store today...going to buy a certain sparkly ring for a finger on the left hand...

I'm heading out for the Severe Weather Symposium down in Lincoln, and for some train watching with Mookie and the Driver. It's pretty wet out this morning, but it should still be a decent day.

Good Saturday morning!  Joe, thanks for putting on the coffee, making fresh juice, and thanks for the rolls this morning.

I believe that you should be very dry while you're at Tower A and CUT today.  Enjoy your time there, and HAVE FUN!!  Look a little towards the southwest, and yell "Hello Louisville!!"

Boy am I glad this week is over.  I havn't stopped by the diner because I have been going to school then sports practice then another sports practice and then going home to study for tests and work on presentations for school.  All this left me with out any time for the dinerSigh [sigh]. Now I need some Zzz [zzz]. At least I did well at my track meet yesterday, I got first in the discus and second in the shotput. Thanks for the fish CW, it is nice to come back here and read up on the goings on in the diner.  Maybe next week won't be so hectic. Tomorrow I am spending all day judging 4-H public presentations then on Sunday I have sports practice again, but hopefully I will be able to stop and look for some trains on the way.  If I see anything interesting I will stop in and tell everyone.  Hope you all have a good weekend.

Oh Ed,

Just today I was looking at ropers and Lucchase boots and was instantly transported to the land of wide open spaces, FAA shows and pick-up trucks with rifle racks against the back window for the fishing poles. I noticed on this boot website the current shirts being available to purchase for showing. My children showed sheep and hogs. Getting rightly dressed for "show" was almost as important as having your animal look its best. At least for my daughters; a little glitter in her hair, a little glitter on the lamb.

I passed a funeral possession today and pulled over. I was promptly passed. That bugged me. You can the girl out of Texas (I claim it as home,) but you can't take the Texas out of the girl. GTT- like some dream where Cowbows ride into the sunset with their girl and live happily ever after..wait, maybe the cowboy rode off with his girl to another state and the story still has a happy ending. I guess it isn't too bad. I have my cowboy, worn out boots and all.

Been wanting to go two-steppin. Tried to teach that cowboy of mine and he's good. Now to explain why that leg of mine is swelling again. Swells everytime I try to be active. But I can't sit still when there is a good country song on.

So, everyone here in the diner, I'm putting music in the jukebox, (do we have one?) and courtesy of John Michael Montgomery, here's one of my favorites.

Way down in Texas
Those cowgirls get restless
As they wait for that cowboy
Who will love them for life
And though they are certain
They'll meet him tomorrow
They're alone with their dreams for tonight

So dream on Texas ladies
About cowboys and babies
Hold out for that Lonestar
Who will love you for life
Dream on Texas ladies
About sunshine and daisies
Follow your heart
Where it leads you tonight

From Houston to Dallas
Those cowgirls sing ballads
About how love everlasting
Is love at its best
And they dream of that day
When they both ride away
As the sun slowly sets in the west

So dream on Texas ladies
About cowboys and babies
Hold out for that Lonestar
Who will love you for life
Dream on Texas ladies
About sunshine and daisies
Follow your heart
Where it leads you tonight

Dream on Texas ladies
About cowboys and babies
Hold out for that Lonestar
Who will love you for life
Dream on Texas ladies
About sunshine and daisies
Follow your heart
Where it leads you tonight

I was going to see if the DD&CS could cater the affair, but there might be contracts and unions to deal with, besides our cook and crew already work to hard.

Enjoy the weekend.
