Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
....The hot stuff must be rather wide spread today.....Earlier this afternoon as I consumed my double Steakburger and choc. shake in the truck....I heard Ft. Wayne radio say it was 91 degrees. Now it's still sunny here and the wind is really whipping around. We are to possibly have some weather pass {some might be rough}, through later this afternoon / evening. I'll bet the radar shows it now, so I better take a look and see what is coming.

Q, not sure if you all are supposed to get the same stuff we're supposed to get here or not.
I've seen at least two different "Radar Tracks" on the News.
We got to 87 today with the chance of some of that very bad stuff coming just a bit later.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
....Walt, looks like we kinda dodged a bullet....Seems the warnings were a bit north of us as the diagonal line moved across Indiana....It kinda split up and modified as it passed here and it looks like the only thing we're going to receive from it is a bunch of wind, which we've been getting for hours now but still no violence in weather. Believe the warnings were to expire about 10 and that's just a half hour from now.

Wow, that's just like something that would usually happen to us here in Omaha. I looked at the radar estimated precipitation and it's amazing how there are half inch to one inch amounts north and south of you and Muncie is in the middle of a twenty mile wide line that didn't get anything. That hasn't happened much yet this year here in Omaha. I guess it's saving it for July and August when we really need the rain.

I guess "WE" did sort of "Dodge the Bullet" this time, we've had some Very heavy rain, small hail and strong winds, but not as bad as some of the stuff we've ever had this time of year.
The original "tracks" that we saw, had it going both North & South of the actual Louisville area.
Don't think we're supposed to get anything worse than hard rain for the rest of tonight.
Had to cut short "work session" in the yard tonight.
(I guess you could say we had a "Rain Delay"!)
//edit: meant to add while listening to the scanner, outlying city fire units and the suburban
fire companies are dealing with a few trees, limbs down, and power outages. Nothing more serious than what we usually have.

Pretty sure Joe and/or CW will sneak in here while I am pawing the keyboard.
Had an interesting day off. Breakfast out, eye dr appt for me, lunch out, Millie in for checkup - we are both healthy, and a short nap in the park, with some good train watching thrown in. Someone said freight was down - HA! Don't tell BNSF - we have seen CSX, NS, and the Warbonnet on point going through the yards this week. All pulling very long mixed freight. Business is terrific.
The Great Wall of Lincoln is going up in front of our house. They are putting up a very nice wall, about 3-4 feet high. But it is going very slowly, what with the rain and only being able to work on it in the evenings. It still isn't done, but what is done looks very nice. The landlord said he had several people stop to admire and ask if he wanted to do a wall for them! He declined (thank goodness, as you will see in a minute).
He had some (I will reserve my true opinion) young man come out with a bobcat and a stump grinder and a tractor trailer assembly that was backed into our doublewide drive with a roll-off type device (that he later drove the bobcat into) - who.....used the bobcat to completely dig out the two layers of small rock we had in the back yard. The landlord wants to pave most of the back yard so the occupants can park their 2nd &/or 3rd cars back there. (this is a duplex, remember)
The small rock was put there two landlords ago so people could park back there. It has, over the last 5-6 years been pretty well squished into the dirt. Well, he cleaned most of that out, leaving a large yard of dirt, then used the stump grinder and took out all the stumps in the back yard, leaving the stump grinder and the wood chips in the backyard, while the rocks, bobcat and tractor/trailer assembly took off. It rained about .75 that nite. We have the only mud swimming hole in Lincoln with a stump grinder in the middle of it.
Plus he took a chunk out of our side of the driveway on the edge!
Then yesterday, someone came out and broke up all the cement around our backdoor slab (we use the backdoor pretty exclusively, since the garages are right there), so we now have mud, sludge and heaps of concrete along with the stump remover.
I almost had to tranquilze the driver! He really hates to not be able to drive right up into the garage and go in his own back door. Now we have to drive around the neighbors 2nd car and until yesterday, two dirt piles that were in the drive for the wall. Kind of an obstacle course. Glad Millie isn't a Hummer!
If they redo the driveway, to repair the missing chunk, we won't be able to get into the garage at all. It is on our side and about two big squares from the garage door.
Oh the trauma!
Me thinks I would like a bagel with cream cheese, toasted, coffee and a nap, not necessarily in that order.
Lunch - maybe a quiet bowl of soup in the corner. And another nap....
Moo... literally!

morning
wow sounds like some heavy construction going on there mookie.we had to pick up some branches from last nights storm.we got over an inch of rain last night. cooled off very nicely at work.once this round dries will be mowing time again for sure.heres your mug mookie.
Gee whiz! - At least they didn't drag off the Centennial and the Big Boy you dragged-in there from Omaha three landlords and twenty-odd annoying neighbors ago......
// Empties blue gatorade container and lugs cooler off to work in the great wide no-where north of Denver.....(I hate working on shopping malls.....Think I'll tell 'em I'm working for WalMart when they start pestering us, asking what we're taking pictures of(?)...)
Good Wednesday morning, everyone! Very comfortable sleeping weather last night: which is what I did, until 8:55 EDT this morning.
Mookie, sounds like you had a very interesting day yesterday. Bet Driver was about ready to pound someone into that dirt!!
Notice someone put some breakfast out on the breakfast bar: thank you, whomever took over for me this morning!!
Think I'll fix some beef stew and vegetable beef soup w/cornbread for lunch today. Does that sound all right, with everyone?!?! If not, let me know what you'd like to have.
.....Willy: That seems to happen to this area of Muncie quite often...Especially rough weather approaching us from the west and much of the time it does pass across Indiana at an angle, just like yesterday, but as it gets close to us so many times it does seem to evaporate or split and vier either north or south of us.
Of course I've heard all the old wives tales, etc....of why it happens: Such as "the bend in the river at Muncie"...."The large Indian tribe settled here because of the protection from weather, etc...", and others....But who knows....?? The only thing I can say about it is...it does seem to occur often that way often under those conditions.
And you're correct Willy, we got just a wee bit of light rain for a short time late last night. My rain gauge {just checked}, showed 4 tenths of an inch including some we received this morning....Actually, that's more than I thought we got.
Quentin: You have the same phenom in Muncie that Lincoln has. It roars right up to us from any direction and then splits and goes around us!
I always thought it was because I glared and hollered at the tv weather warnings covering my already small tv screen! My good German stock brooks no arguments - just go around and go on!
Jen
.....Jen: Guess I have to ask, does Lincoln have a great big bend of horseshoe design in it's river....As I said, that's an old tale around here as to why the weather systems split, and go around us.....
In all seriousness....it does seem to happen often.
...Just got curious. So I pulled up a map of Lincoln and see you have a " Y" in your water systems running thru your fair city plus what looks like a sizable lake....
Q - the only "river" is Salt Creek or Salt Crick, Dead Man's Run (I have no idea) and Antelope Creek or Crick, so can't be the "river". Lincoln proper sits in a bowl, so that is our excuse!
'course - if you sit in the bowl, the rain clouds go over and sprinkle us, then someone puts a lid on us and turns up the heat in the summer.... Shades of Houston Nebraska!

Never believe those old tales/myths when it comes to tornadoes. There have been more than a few towns that thought they were safe from tornadoes only to be devastated by an F4 or F5.
We used to have the "Pollock Pool Weather Shield" in Oshkosh. Impending doom and storms of destruction would approach and split, usually just west or south and west of the outdoor pool I worked at. The saying went that you could have 75 and sunny at the pool, yet West of town there'd be tornado warnings. Seriously though I think the moderating influence is Lake Winnebago.
Hey Willy, any science behind these tales?
Dan
....Yes, Willy this is tornado alley too....Indiana is located such as we do see our share of them. Right here at our home....No, and hope never, but boy they have been close by.
Dan - Not much science behind those tales. Some of them (like the ones about cities being protected against tornadoes) are from old Native American myths, etc. People thought that since they were in a river valley, etc, they were protected, but they didn't get too scientific about it.
Bob - The fact that areas right around you get a foot of snow and Spokane only gets a couple of inches most likely has to do with temperatures and moisture. I'm not very familiar with the weather in the Pacific Northwest, so I'd have to do some research to give you an exact answer.
Mookie - Yes, I know I'm sensible, but being sensible makes me who I am.
....Right now the sun is trying to peak thru. Cooler here today after having 90 plus in the state yesterday. Doubt if we'll see 70 today. One thing I'd like right now is for it to stay dry for a few hours so I can do my mowing. Still doing it every 3 or 4 days.
But we do need a bit more rain than the 4 tenths we recieved the last 12 hrs or so.....
Well, everyone, the beef stew, cornbread and vegetable beef soup are now on the warmer bar, just waiting for you all to come and get it!!
Right now, we've got beautiful blue sky with a nice breeze blowing out. Think I'll start on some housecleaning, while the temps are comfortable.

Hummmmmm, You guys out there in the Mid-West know about "Cricks"?!
I was thinking that was reserved for us "Hillbillys" Appalachian-Americans!!
At least we still have our "Hollers"
We've got some 'cricks' up this way, too, although the more genteel prefer "creeks."
We have a huge weather moderator west of us. The lake is generally cooler than anything else and has taken the wind out of more than a few nasty looking storms.
The last really bad summer weather we got here snuck in from Canada and never touched the lake.
Rained here today - much to the chagrin of those attempting to finish our new radio tower. They don't take well to climbing in the rain, and doubly so if there's any chance of lightning....

Tree - Our wall was being assembled under a cloudy and lightning filled sky on Monday nite. I was wringing my hands watching out a 2nd story window, but they went ahead like it was a clear, sunny day. When it started to finally rain, they gave up and called it quits.
Willy - That's why you are a favorite of mine - you are sensible. That pleases me!
Mookie
....Sure and I know what "cricks" are being an easterner.....
we have a "crick" behind our house.i followed it back through the woods to the tiffin river.yes quite a bit cooler today compared to yesterday.tommorow it will be time to get out the lawnmower.now its time to get matthew off the bus.CW will take some stew and cornbread for lunch tonight please.
