I really do not want to harp about the dangers of Li-ion batteries but there are many sites out about them.  Just be careful where you charge them and do not leave on a charger.  Here is NBC video about them.

There are bags and boxes available in which to charge the batteries.  I can't vouch for their effectiveness, but if they can contain any fire/explosion, that can't be a bad thing.

Yes, there have been several fires resulting in fatalities.

EV batteries are also a problem.  Reports of needing 30,000 to 40,000 gallons of water to extinguish such fires are becoming commonplace.  A GM rep at their Michigan Proving Grounds probably summed it up the best - "These are exposure events."  In other words, we aren't going to put them out, all we can do is protect the exposures.

In other news - I may have found the culprit responsible for my garage door problems.  It was sitting in my kitchen in the form of one of the old remotes.  I figure the battery was dying and would randomly send out commands.  The battery has been removed, and so far, the door is behaving itself...

Radio said it was national pizza day

Wow - Celebrated a holiday and didn't even know it.

Fundraiser at granddaughter's school was pizza makings.  My package showed up today, so supper was a couple of mini-pizzas.

I know it was a movie, and a comedy at that, but didn't a sub launch a torpedo that ended up running ashore and blowing up a truck?

Kudos to that crew, though - everyone wanted to volunteer for the mission.

During a torpedo attack one of the USS Bowfin's torpedoes missed and struck a dock, knocking a bus into the water. I believe it's commonly assumed that this was the inspiration for Cary Grant's truck kill.

You have recently been mentioning cars at your company's loading dock(s).  Are the cars SUPPOSED to be there?  Have they been released by your company and not pulled or is your company still handling the lading for the cars - either loading or unloading?

So the car's still being there is NS failure, not your company's failure.

Any company worth a Traffic Manger releases cars BEFORE they are empty, knowing carriers are not 'johnny on the spot' to pull the cars and prove the industry wrong.

I've seen it not work out.  Customer has a fit when the RR takes their loaded cars away because they lost playing the demurrage game.

They'll make their way back in a week or so.

In today's RR, you don't always have the same crew at the same time to service you.

That is the Traffic Manager v Dock Manager game.

If a car is 'released' and pulled before it is actually empty - then the company is on the hook for a 'intra-plant' switch charge for when the part load is spotted the 2nd time as well as another intra-plant switch charge for pulling it when it is really empty.  ChaChing!

Customers are entitled to one placing and one pulling of a car - all the rest are intra-plant switch charges.

Ns has another mess near Romulus Michigan

The Detroit News reported it as CSX, and steel products.  The slab train normally seen through Deshler?

My bad - my search for Romulus, MI derailment brought up a 2022 incident, and I didn't notice the discrepancy.

This incident actually occurred in Van Buren Township, which is to the west of Romulus.  Belleville would have been a better location.

Most schools delayed or closed today around here.  Early freezing rain followed by some snow.  Wasn't a disaster, but many schools are headed for winter break, so an extra day off.

Birds have been hitting the feeders pretty hard.  Time to go out and top them off.  Got to pick up another back of seed tomorrow.  Not going to make it out of winter with what I've got on hand.

I did have all three of the cardinal pairs in this morning.  Very pretty.

After many, many months the audio has been restored to the VR Cajon/Hesperia webcam!  When I tuned in on Wednesday, they were really running like (heavy) streetcars.

BNSF requires their UP tenant to be properly powered so their WBs don't run away on the downhill side of the pass. EBs seem to run as fast as the BNSF, probably until Yermo when they return to home rails and return locos to LA.
