Backshop Caught power at Hartland, Brighton, Brittain (Akron) and Gambrinus (Canton).
Had me going there, for a minute. Hartland and Brighton are adjacent communities in SE Michigan. AFAIK, though, there was never a railroad in Hartland...
And it wouldn't have been W&LE, either... C&O or Grand Trunk.

Still getting alternate light and heavy days of precip from the amazingly east-west linear atmospheric river. It is astonishing to see how much water inflow can happen on the larger reservoirs.
I've been watching the 'big 3 - Trinity, Shasta, Oroville' in Norcal which are over 1M acre feet capacity. Yesterday (one day) they came up 18,826, 90,045, 37,368 acre feet!
BaltACDAnything making it further East to recharge Lake Mead?
Some of the newer forecasts show expected increase in snow pack in southern UT and northern AZ which may feed into the Colorado River. Otherwise just Tehachapi leftovers .....
EDIT - just found a very cool reservoir summary map: https://cdec.water.ca.gov/resapp/RescondMain

BackshopThey are a few miles east of Norwalk, which is right by Milan, but not the Michigan one, either.
A recent FB post had a list of cities, the object being to see how many you had visited. I included several in my count that probably weren't what the OP intended: Rome, Vienna, Copenhagen, Philadelphia, Madrid. All located here in NY...
In a variation of that theme, you can take Metra to Manhattan (SW Service) or to Mars (MILW-W).

Saw a picture years ago of a sign pointing the way to the Military Affiliate Radio Station on a military base. The sign consisted of an arrow, pointing straight up, with a circle in the middle with the letters "MARS." It was opined that this was a good spot from which to launch a mission to the red planet...
One would suppose that the sign was trying to indicate that the MARS station was straight ahead...
MARS, by the way, is sort of a military version of amateur radio.
Mars, PA is on the former B&O/CSX P&W Sub. As a kid in 1954 there was a B&O Pittsburgh Division picnic held at a location at Mars. During the event a coal train went Westbound, climbing Bakerstown Hill with one articulated steam engine on the head end and two articulateds on the rear end. Cinders descended from the heavens for 10 minutes after the trains passage.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Hence, "the wrong side of the tracks..."

Ns has a powder river coal train in the siding at Archbold.Still have the cars in our building.College boy went and got the rest of his stuff.Everything is all set for his internship. With his extra time he is the special assistant to the historical society.Need to do some chores.
stay safe
Joe
Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Heard an Ns train after work. The coal train is still in the siding. We still have the cars in our building.Had a lost semi driver park right in the middle of the road just as everyone wants to leave.College boy reported the bluelick rd (near Lima)overpass almost claimed a semi when he turned in his paperwork.Guessers say rain to snow.Chores to do.
Got a little snow last night, which has all melted as the temperature got up to about +41F during the day.
We're about to get more weather, though, due to a huge system that ranges from Canada all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. In the deep south they are getting severe weather forecasts.
Aside from that, all's quiet here on the northern border.
Getting my packing ans shopping lists together for the trip to Springfield, MA and the big train show at the end of the month. I actually have a couple of things I'll be looking to buy.
Harrison will be there, as well as some folks who are coming in from Indiana. Among the 10,000 who attend each of the two days. After the big lockdown, this should be quite the event this year.
I missed it last year with a broken ankle.
And there's a little train show in Utica on Sunday, in the gorgeous Utica Union Station. It was built in 1914 (about the same time as GCT) and shares some architecture.
Did a daytrip in the opposite direction as the one earlier in the week. Hit Flint and Saginaw for the Lake State and Owosso for the Great Lakes Central. All three were pretty busy so it was a worthwhile trip (they all are).

I catch LS occasionally when I visit Milford. Durand is usually interesting, too. Got up to Owosso in 2009 for the big steam extravaganza. I'll have to head up there again soon.
There is talk on the GLC facebook page that they may be getting bought by Watco.
Had a storm heading our way this afternoon. Needed to pick up some food at feed and seed store so did not pay much attention until sirens went off at 1415. Checked and Tornado warning had track of it in Alabama directly pointed at our house. Went into storm war plan with a predicted hit at 1444. However by 1435 track had bent more to south of us so left shelter. Damage fairly extesive in LaGrange but unbbeliveable that no one even injured so far. Closest damage was I-185 closed just off of I-85. About 4 miles due south of us.
We aren't getting anything severe here. Just wet, packy snow on top of a little ice. The roads are flat out greasy.
I was watching the radar down your way - didn't look good. Glad you missed the worst of it.
Snow flurries on the way home.Ns dropped off a boxcar. The other 3 cars are outside in the siding. The coal train is still in the other siding.College boy went into town with Mom to the store.Have chores to do here.
Three more storms are coming through this weekend with a longer break next week. Several feet of snow (at least) should come to the high Sierra that hopefully won't be melted by rain before spring.
If you wish to drive up there now, check out this video first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGedAXES9DQ Mountain cabin owners must bring shovels to dig into their second story entrances.
Concerned about mobile real-estate in the burn areas?
I image that the railroads in that country are patrolling track frequently looking for trouble.
Checked Ns and Csx today. Both were plugged up.Csx had a double tanker train backed into the auburn spur.Plus they wanted M 352 to move his 2nd unit around and use it as a DPU.Which caused more delays in the yard.Ns must have a slow order on the diamond on their side at St.Joe.They ran a combo stack/manifest train south.L 096 had to wait quite awhile before he was allowed to go to work SDI.Going with Sis tomorrow to check on our brother. The more sunshine the better.
mudchicken Concerned about mobile real-estate in the burn areas?
MC, all real estate in California is mobile, just waiting for "the big one" for the move... Although some parts are more mobile than others, just needing some excess rain to move.
One impressive note about how the earth shifts after an eartquake was seeing the adjustment for the baseplate of the 200 inch telescope on Palomar Mountain that needed to be made after the 1971 Sylmar earthquake. The 'scope is mounted on a separate foundation from the rest of the dome with adjustment bolts for leveling.
Sis and I were able to take brother out in the sunshine.Went over to Butler and Ns had trains going across the diamond each way.A cp train 242 came and used the connection as well.Saw L 96 come up to SDI with new gons by NS but leased to AOK as well.Even saw I 169 come by Auburn on Csx while we had lunch.Brother was happy.College boy said my pictures were cool.Back to work tomorrow.
Didn't spend too much at the train show. Got a couple of cars and a never-seen-before DVD. Seems a long time member of the local NRHS chapter passed and his family discovered a stash of 8mm film from 1941. The chapter was able to have the film restored and transferred to digital. I haven't watched it yet, but it should be interesting.
Went whole hog and bought an Adlake lantern that came from the Pere Marquette. Got a break on it, though.
At least there was no snow in either direction of the trip.
Rain here in Nw Ohio.Ns looked clear after work.Great niece is working on a family tree project.I can give her some information.I sent her on to Big Sis for the rest.
Cold today, but at least we stayed above zero. Only+20.2F now, after a low of +8F overnight.
Took the day off, if you will.
Gotta shop for some tires, though.
NE Florida had a low of 30 this morning with a significant frost. Daylight brought the temperature up to about 65.
Ns was clear after work today.Talked to big Sis.She is thinking about planning something for Big brother in September. We will see how things go.Mother nature is doing whatever but we do not have to shovel it.Chores to do.
Heard an Ns after work but not sure which way they went.Everything else is clear uptown.Guessers say rain is coming.Saw a video where they moved the second section of the Hamilton depot.Chores to do here.
Just a reminder to be careful around the rails ...

Ns sent a westbound stack train after work.Mother nature filled the swamp overnight.Going to send more here soon.Guessers saying the "S" word for next week.Co-worker stopped by at our house just to see how we were doing. We are both glad tomorrow is Friday.
