Just a reminder to be careful around the rails ...

I hate it when that happens...  [;-)]

Had to run into town today, all the while listening to scanner traffic about accidents on the Interstate.

Drove home in the rain, and after unloading some groceries and putting the truck in the garage, I discovered that the front of the truck had developed a sheet of ice on it.

Should be an interesting evening.  Think I'll skip that training I was thinking about attending.

Don't you have a block heater or a slightly heated garage that will take care of that? Haven't had to worry about such things since my trip to Delta Jct, AK many decades ago .....

Block heater wouldn't do anything - the coating was on the outside of the truck.  A garage only helps if the truck is in it.  I acquired that coating driving down the road...

I haven't checked this morning, but I imagine the ice is gone from the truck by now.

If only I could figure out what's opening my garage door at random times.  Didn't start until I got new remote openers.

Suspect someone in your near area has a opener operating on the same channels.  I know there is SUPPOSED to be some technology that prevents this, however, it would appear to not be working in your case.

I've thought of that.  Oddly, it only opens - never closes.  Thought it could be a prankster who figured out his remote did mine too.

It's been suggested that someone may have something in their vehicle (like Bluetooth) that's doing it without them even realizing it.

I was working in the garage one day with the door closed and all of the sudden it starts to open...

I may resort to putting the thing on a switch.  It's not a big problem in the milder months, but I don't relish the thing opening in the middle of a blizzard, or at extreme low temperatures.

Of course, there's only so many codes.

Went to the home improvement store a while back an inquired about getting several door entry sets with the same key.  Turns out that if you buy a package of four (at least with this one manufacturer) all of them are keyed the same anyhow.  I should have bought the fourth lockset.  Kinda spooky to think that there's someone, somewhere with the key to my house...

There is also a possibility that the sensor that opens the door when it hits something is set too low and tripping.

When setting up the new remotes, you may have hit the adjustment knobs.

That's been done.  As noted before, the door just randomly opens, or so it seems.  There have been a couple of times when snow tripped the sensors on the way down and the door opened back up, so I make sure the door is closed completely before I leave the garage.

But when I know it's closed, and even check it later in the evening, then find it open the next morning...

Could be the 'brain box' not FULLY acknowledging that door is down when it is down and is keeping the sensors active, when they should be turned off.  Something triggers a sensor and since the brain box 'thinks' it is still in the process of lowering the door and something is 'trapped', it raises the door again.

Had to go out and try that one - no effect.  Leaning toward a stray signal - that may not even be related to garage door openers.

The not acknowledging that the door is fully down, may be a intermittent happening - one time in a hundred or less.

At least Joseph Lucas provided smoke when his electrons failed.

My thoughts are on the same line.  If it was a rouge transmitter it would raise and lower the door.  I would check the limits and increase the down force.

Just checked on the location of the International Space Station, on a whim.

It was coming over, so I tuned in my radio to the ISS repeater and picked up some traffic.  Didn't bother trying to hit it myself.

Due back in 90 minutes, more or less, so I'll listen in again.

New slippers on the truck today, and I picked up a banner for the railroad's booth at Springfield.

Add supper (Moe's) and some grocery shopping and my day was done.

Already have a "must do" list for tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure there's at least one train there, although now serving only as a tourist line...

I hope you're enjoying Hawaii as much as I did; I've been there twice.

I think the saddest-looking people I ever saw were in the Honolulu airport, waiting for a flight out.  They knew, as I did, that no matter where they were going, it wouldn't be as anywhere as nice as where they already were.

I've been on the ground in Hawaii for more that a layover twice.  First time a couple of us rented a car and toured Oahu for a couple of days.  He drove one day, I drove the other.  That way we balanced out our "trucker tans."

Our departure from that visit was on the USS Granville Hall (YAG40) for an exciting summer bobbing around in the beautiful blue South Pacific.  That included several visits to Samoa, so it wasn't all bad.  The "Granny" was a Liberty Ship...

The second time was accompanying my mother and sister for a tour of four of the islands. Nice time.  Leaving from that visit, I was headed back to Canton Island (Kanton Island) in the Phoenix chain to finish my year on that remote island.  We were on Canton to track incoming missiles...

Two interesting events during our summer on the "Granny" included meeting up with "La Balsa," a bamboo raft replicating the "Kon Tiki" trip across the Pacific from South America.  We provided them with some supplies.

The second was as a back-up recovery ship for the Apollo 13 landing.  We didn't even come close to the primary LZ, but there was the possibility we could have had primary duty.

On one trip through "Hickalulu," I saw a young couple.  Somehow, they just had a look about them that said "honeymoon..."

Not to put too fine a point on it, but on a cold winter's day, as we get ready for another storm tomorrow, these might bring a smile and thoughts of Hawaii:

Not to burst anybody's bubble, but taking a vacation in a tropical paradise is quite different from living and working there.
