working a wine/beer train tonight, and then two days of rules classes.

That made me chuckle for some reason.

2 days?  Wow... we only get one.

Make sure the shades are drawn for that one.....Wink

Zug, we get two days for rules classes.  Maybe you don't have enough rules?Laugh

I'm sure though that your company, like ours, gives you plenty of Special High Intensity Training.Wink

Two days? Another day necessary for the details of handling tourist trains?

I did get back home yesterday morning, and spent the day catching up on this and that and taking care of necessary details--life insurance payment that was due 4/28 (I noted on the payment slip that I received it 1 May) and other matters.

It's chilly here, with the lows in the forties, but it is to warm up in the afternoons--and back down next week, with rain (hopefully not like that in Pensacola and the Northeast).

Started out damp and gray this morning, now the sun is out.  Still cool outside, though.

Up a little earlier than usual for an EMS call.  The ladies need to know that women's heart attack symptoms are not necessarily the same as men's.  Don't know for sure that this particular patient had a heart attack (I'm sure I'll hear later), but it's a real possibility.

Heard this morning that another of my generation has passed on.  That's two cousins (different famililies, but both on Mom's side) in just a couple of months.  Mortality strikes again.

Gonna be a railroad weekend - working a wine/beer train tonight, and then two days of rules classes.

Nothing running on CSX since about 1800 last night.  Wonder where the problem is ?
Which one? (No emoticons, but I would post the laughing one if I could get the options bar back.) Apparently 5 inches of rain fell in an hour in Pensacola FL yesterday. Wow!

In the news from the Green Valley tonight:

By early next week, we should know how Pat's new allergy medication works out. The three days she spent without medication were not as miserable as we'd been dreading, and getting them out of her system has alleviated some other problems, such as sensitive skin. She came out of the allergist's office with at least a half-dozen welts of varying colors and sizes from things she's allergic to, but there were even more spots that didn't react, surprising both Pat and the doctor. The good news is that she's not allergic to the area trees (including lilac!).

The railroad placed the control point at College in service sometime this week.  It was not in service yet last Friday, but the approach signals near Glen Ellyn told a different story as we headed toward it today, and the home signals were lit. These universal crossovers break up--almost evenly--the 10-mile stretch between Turner (West Chicago) and Grace (Lombard). The long-range plans for the line include express trains on Metra during rush hours, using the center track to get around trains making local stops. Even now, it can be used to increase the fluidity of trains on our line. The new crossovers can be used to put a train on any of the three tracks from any of the three tracks.

Wow - watching the news from way back east, looks like employment will rise dramatically!  What a mess.  Makes me glad I live on flat land.  Very flat land.

Still raining here.  Rain guage shows 1.2" in the past 24 hours, but that doesn't include the over half inch we got in the previous 24 hours (the weather station only shows the past 24 hours, unless I want to dig through the menus...)

No problems with changing fonts, or access, here.  I'm using Chrome most of the time these days.  My shortcut takes me directly to this forum (but not this thread).

Done with four nights at the PBS auction.  That's a long time on my feet!  We work in half hour shifts, but standing pretty much still on that concrete floor takes a toll.  I've got other commitments through Saturday night, but I'll be back in time for the last night of the event on Sunday.

It was pretty cool here today, too.  It was supposed to get into the 50s, and it probably did that early in the morning, but I needed a jacket by afternoon, as the wind was kind of buffeting me as I biked my errands.

We didn't get any rain to speak of today, but that is a small apology for the 1.25 inches we received yesterday (some in pea-sized hail).  We had guests with us when we walked the block or so to lunch.  We were kind of stuck inside the deli for a little while, and had to sample their ice cream...

Tomorrow I have to take Pat to see an allergist (she's been bothered by allergies for the 40-plus years I've known her, but she's actually going to find out what exactly she's allergic to).  Her appointment is in downtown Glen Ellyn.  She has to be in there getting tests for two hours or so, so I will spend that time either alongside the tracks or on them, checking out the crossovers at College (last week they still hadn't put things in service yet).

Groundbreaking for the Lombard pedestrian tunnel is in two weeks.  The ceremony is during the Lilac Festival, but work won't begin in earnest until after the parade on the 18th.

I don't have any trouble changing fonts or sizes here.  But I did have to take the back-window route in again.  I wonder what's up, and why the Forum doesn't like chatterboxes.

No Joe, not this particular one.  I got a decent hangover when they moved the Omaha one.  It was like watching the moon move thru the sky during a whole nite.  And that was just one day.  I have hugged the Big Boy, stuck my head in as far as possible in the cab, tried to reach the top of the drivers and had someone explain to me how it works.  It is like standing next to the Queen Mary and wondering how it all happened and how it all managed to move.  And the person explaining it all had actually been on one when it was working.

Had to get a small blanket out even with the furnace running today.  48 was our high and I think 192 was the wind speed out of the north.  I had put away my space heater, sweats and indoor jackets for spring.  HA!  Would have rolled up in the rug if it wasn't wall-to-wall carpeting.  Still beats the 21" of rain in FL.  Cold not so bad; just move a little closer to the lamp and get warmth from the lightbulb.  Tomorrow will be much warmer.

Or I get a bigger bulb.

This morning, while I was waiting in Stockton for my train to Sacramento, I saw several freights go by; one had many UP cars with ARMN reporting mark; they are reefers?

White?  Probably part of the "salad shooter" that runs from the west coast to Schenectady, NY (and back, obviously).

Well, my options are gone again; if I had kept my computer on last night, ?xxxYes, Larry, they were white. xxx In response to Mookie's concern over laundry, I pack only enough to carry me to a place where I know I can wash--the hotel where I stay in Bristol, my sister-in-law's apartment in Baton Rouge (her daughter and her husband were there also, and my niece started the laundry and moved it to the drier; I took it out and folded what needed to be folded. My third washpot was in the Residence Inn in Oklahoma City (these places cater to people who need to stay for several days). These were my laundry places this trip.xxxBack to the California Zephyr in the late morning, and home about three in the morning. Katie does not seem willing to come meet me, but she does bring my car to the station (she folds the rear seat backs down, and loads her bicycle in the trunk and on the rear seat).

Well our tornado of two days ago turned out to be 2 -EF2s that did little damage and no injuries because they both were skipping along.  This morning the wind is howling here and remind me of being in a minor hurricane with the sudden gusts.  Woke me with concerns about suspect trees nearby.  Pensacola's 15" of rain has kept the rain down here with only about 1" on the rain gauge

Johnny:  no sympathy here.  I did wave at you and you were asleep - remember?  Blindfold (that's a sleeping shade)

I don't know about you, but I am exhausted following you all over the US.  I already have a nap planned for tomorrow, somewhere around the lunch hour.  Ah - life is good!

Sounds like you had a good time and I am extremely jealous.  But then, I don't have lots of laundry to do now, either.

Oh, yes; Mookie, I'm sorry, but I will not pass through Lincoln on my way home; I will take #6 from Sacramento tomorrow morning, and get off about three Thursday  morning. If I can take a train or get home at that time, surely a friend can come and wave to me when I pass through her hometown?

Whee! I can choose my font and size again! I could not do so when I logged on early this morning. I also received three days' e-mail postings from Kalmbach about ten this morning; they were waiting for me when I logged on early this afternoon.

This morning, while I was waiting in Stockton for my train to Sacramento, I saw several freights go by; one had many UP cars with ARMN reporting mark; they are reefers? (there is a grill at one end of each). I also saw a looong shipment of what looked like sheetrock going south--and not long afterwards a northbound freight came by, with several cars with what looked like sheetrock on them.

Saturday, before we reached Alpine, Texas, we had an interesting meet. An eastbound freight was on the main, and we had to pull in in front of it so another eastbound (with many, many, empty FEMA cars--at least, those I could see into were empty) could keep going when it at last arrived on the pass track. For some reason, our engineer had to be cajoled into pulling far enough west so we would not foul the pass track switch. Once the superior eastbound was gone, we backed (after one of the conductors got off to flag a dirt road that crossed the track there) to where we could move onto the pass track and then ran past the inferior eastbound.

Mookie:   does it seem to you that many web sites not just this one is made for persons who think one way ?.  Find it hard to navigate as the sites are not intuitive ?

I can think of several that I almost hate to visit.  A national pharmacy comes to mind.  It takes several visits to figure out the set up so you can check on your scripts.  Even checking on my bank account is odd, once you get into it.  But some places to buy clothes are just a piece of cake.  Sensible, well set up, get in get out and go.

And the pharmacy?  Well, the local one is listed on the northeast corner of the intersection.  It is actually on the northwest corner.  McD's is on the northeast.  Food's better, but can't get something for a headache.

What is wrong with kalmbach trains ?  It will only allow me to view the 4014 live streaming if I extend my subscription.  though not one to get angry  ------------------  well  nuts to you trains.

I'm not going to criticize Kalmbach, since I am glad they have the forums, however, this not being able to get into the Chatterbox gets a little old.

Having said that, I have had to "visit", in last 3 days, with local delivery of paper - looks nice in the lawn with the rain falling on it or wind blowing parts of it up the street; visit with the dr office about a prescription that was so obviously wrong because someone didn't read notes; visit with grocery store about checkers finding it more fun to visit with fellow employees while customers stand and wait to be checked out, visit with pharmacy about other prescriptions that they never seem to have available, even after 2 years of ordering them every month after you waited in line in the drive thru for 20 min.

I feel much better.  Blue Streak hope you do too, now that we have had our say!.
