Mowed front yard yesterday.  May have to call in a farmer to bale the back yard.

Rain today.  Looks like it should end soon, so I may be able to mow the back yard tomorrow.

Temps also down by 30 degrees since yesterday's record-tying high of +84F.

Good thing I've got plenty to do in the house...

Kinda explains some things about a survey field crew suddenly not being productive near Streator. (looking for buried section corners under slick wet roads not a healthy thing to be doing right now) - I cut my grass at dusk last night out of self defense. We are supposed to be getting wet shortly and I need some time at work to make-up for being off with my AREMA tribe on Tuesday and Wednesday.

No frost here, but to the north and west of us (Elgin, DeKalb), snow is falling!  It's May 16.

I wish something would kill the dandelions in the yards around ours.

Last night on the way west, we met a stack train.  The engine was the UP 4014.  No Big Boy in tow.

I mowed today.  It just doesn't seem right to mow when you can see your breath.   At least the sprinkles didn't turn into anything heavy.  I don't like mowing in the rain.

Jeff:  What is it going to take to stop  " Old man winter " predicted 45F tonight and the next 2 - 3 nights although have doubts.*  Yes mowing tomorrow at 60 degrees if it dries. t

Our lawn definitely needs mowing, but it's either too wet for me to push the mower, or we are too busy with being tour guides or greeters during Lilac Festival.  I hope I can get through the crop on Saturday and that weather allows it--that's probably the first chance I'll get (I'm not out there now because it's wet...we've had 4.5 inches of rain so far this month; the last half-inch hitting this morning).

Today, Pat and I were holding down the fort as greeters in the carriage house, for those who would like to take the historic tours of Lilacia Park.  It is a soft job (I was on the computer, but without Internet), but extremely frustrating to me, because (a) the trains that come through have to sound their horns for the construction workers who seem to be breaking a little more ground, and (b) I can hear everything, but see nothing.  Oh, well, no more Lilac Festival after Sunday...then I have to start working on eliminating the need for holding the Green Valley Bindweed festival in our yard.

I mowed today.  It just doesn't seem right to mow when you can see your breath.  Although it was a bit refreshing after only having a little over 4 hours sleep.  At least the sprinkles didn't turn into anything heavy.  I don't like mowing in the rain.

BC - this is funny - but also because we visited a shoe shop in a shopping center.  They are refacing all of the shops - probably 30-35 of them - at once.  And repairing the parking lot.  Businesses are all open.  Looks like a bad nightmare and parking is non-existent.  The Driver cruised the big dig while I went inside.

71 and nice here - rain in area.  But down into the high 30's at nite.  Blanket on!  Heat on, too!

UP, Metra, and the Village broke ground up by the depot this morning.

I'll fix it later.

Joe:  We would take about anything right now.  We are a shower only family (TMI?), so tub not necessary.  My daughter is refurbishing a small house and is getting a shower with a seat and shelves that looks like a modular to take the place of the existing tub.  It is beautiful!

Imagine that - you go pick out the cubicle you like and you can have a shower, home office and breakfast nook all in - well, whatever room you want it in, I guess!  And a door for privacy for all those uses! (pull the curtain!)  Cool

Ms. M.,

the nasty stuff missed us.  We had heavy rain around 11 pm local.

Today, I see cloudy skies and feel the cool 50 degrees.  I am sure the grass will love this and the mower will make its fourth trip around the yard this year.  Being scheduled for 48 hours this week, the mowing chore will have to wait for the weekend.

Mr. James - I looked at radar and the same storms that ruined a couple of small towns not too far from us, are headed your way.  Nasty business.  And they are really sloooow....

Nice day here in the north woods, which was a good thing, as I had lots to do outside.

Started the day getting a little more brush ready for the town crew to pick up.  Followed that up by fixing my water system.

Noticed the pump was running when I hadn't used any water.  Not finding any visible leaks, it was most certain to be a problem I've had before - a leak "down in the well."  Pulled 60'+ of plastic tubing (two each) and the deep well jet out of the well and found that, indeed, the short pipe between the jet and the foot valve had rusted through.

After a trip to the home improvement store for the necessary replacement supplies, it's all back on-line again, which is good, because now I need a shower...

And while I was at the home improvement store, I found a part I was looking for for another project - I'd thought I'd have to order it on-line.  But there it was!  It's here now...

Mookie

We were close, but no cigar here!  But did get a lot of really nice rain!  And 51 degrees and not higher for today.

Once again, blanket on, blanket off, fan on, fan off.

Ms. Mookie, I understand the blanket/fan routine.  After a few days, including today, in the 80s, rain is guesstimated for tomorrow and Wednesday with highs in the low 60s to upper 50s.  That extends to the weekend.

The flowering trees here are almost finished flowering and the "helicopters" or "whirly-birds" from the maples are covering everything.  Spring and Summer happen much sooner 80 miles south of St. Louis than when I lived 80 miles north and a little west of Green Bay.  Wink

Mookie - It's safe to come out of the cellar now.

Shovelled 8" of wet heart attack snow off the driveway. Glad I had not planted yet.

Freeways are giant stupid zones this morning in Denver.

We felt you needed it more than we did, so we did not snag any, except at high altitudes. At a mile above sea level, we had cold rain, and nothing more. The sun is shining brightly this morning, and I got my morning walk in before breakfast.

Watching the weather here.....Sort of wish we had had some of that snow (moisture!) down here.. It is now officially ( per the Wichita Fish Wrapper) the driest, ever) for this time of year.. Noticed yesterday that  a couple of sections had had their wheat crop bailed for silage...NOT a Good Sign.   WE did get some rain over night, but not nearly what was needed.    Looks like there 'might be' a little more for today(?).   Only one train wen through about 7 Am West bound ( JBH. cans and TOFC.  Probably exhausted the Boars over the Week-end(?)

Everybody have a great week. Be Safe.
