Thunder + Corn Snow + Lightning = Confused Clingy Pups
I am reminded of an elderly patient I once cared for. She was a long time resident and I knew her as the postmistress when we first moved here.
One morning, after an early morning thunderstorm rolled through, we were dispatched to her home for an "unknown medical." I walked over - it was two houses away.
We did what we had to do and sent her off to the ED.
I later found out that it had been an anxiety attack.
Seems that throughout her long life this woman had never been alone during a thunderstorm. Parents, a husband, and finally a dog had always been there to comfort her, or occupy her (comforting the pup) during storms. Her dog had recently died, leaving her alone to confront her fears when the storm arrived. Obviously, she didn't do well.
Her doctor's prescription? Get another dog.
I may have told that story before...

.....Above freezing temps in our area now yesterday...all overnight, and all day today, has taken perhaps 6" of the stuff. Water on roads, streets, etc....To be above freezing overnight too, so more will turn to water.
Then tomorrow the threat of some different bad weather...Watch, for possible damaging wind....and possible tornado action. I believe to be in the 50's for temp....Hence, bad weather possible.
Of course all the above brings the probability of flooding in low places. I'm hi and dry unless it gets {a lot} worse than it has in 42 yrs.

Weather starting to deteriorate around here; Chance of precip overnight is 40% with 50% for Thurs. Days have been really nice, Temps in the 50's. 30's overnight.
sOur English Pointer is telling me it is going to Storm tonight, [time for her Herb Pill ( Calmative)] otherwise, no one gets any sleep, until this the front blows through. Winds are supposed to be high tomorrow on Thurs, 50/60 mph, highs
There has been a CWR train laying rail on the T-con headed for Wellington, They've been replacing ties between Wichita and Mulvane. Traffic is getting back to Normal levels, over the last week. Sure seems to be picking up.
Mid 40's here today. Forecast for freezing rain tomorrow.

Beautifully sunny and 82 degrees here in San Antonio...
Murphy Siding Proof that everybody is sick of winter- Weather liars are saying we're headed for a high of 48 degrees (above) today, despite all the stuff that Nebraska keeps sending our way. Heck- it's already above freezing! One of our delivery drivers showed up today in shorts.

Thawing here, too - already up to +45F. Maybe I can get rid of the rest of the ice in the driveway.
In fact, I'm working on getting rid of a lot of the stuff that's been a pain ever since the ice storm in December. Our FD banquet hall sidewalks are still coated, so I'm hoping I'll have time to get back to them today.
The down side is that with all of the thawing (and forecast rain), the ground is still frozen, so the water will be taking paths of least resistance - probably into places it shouldn't go.
We'll be back into seasonal weather after the weekend.
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
Joe - you might want to consider "home puter" schooling for Matt if the weather doesn't shape up pretty soon. He would feel like a "business" person! I imagine a lot of people are now working from home!
They announced that the Norovirus is in Lincoln. That is the one they have had on cruise ships. So now we can stay home, get sick and all for free!
well Matt ended up staying home today.Snow is melting now. Csx made a mess on the Toledo Sub(totogony) Ohio. S 324 jumped the tracks.Have chores to do.

Larry, I'm sorry to hear that. My memories of being in that gift shop aren't all that clear, but I think I remember her. At the very least, a picture of her should have an honored place on the wall there.Norm, I know that feeling. We don't know which of our neighbors has a snow-blower, but we found that our sidewalks had been blown clear, possibly even last night already. Now to the driveway and patio! I'm showing 31 degrees out there.

Looks like we got four or five inches of the white stuff overnight. Now we are pushing the two feet on the ground mark. Problem is the temperature is going well above freezing for a few days. That's sure going to make the side roads fun.
Looked out the window this morning and my neighbor was sweeping the snow off my truck. Have to find a way to thank her for that.
Chinook winds in Denver tonight (Gusts at 60 MPH) - the building up here at my eighth floor perch is creaking and popping/ widows rattle a bit. Cool-it with the breezes guys!
Sorry to hear about the loss of your volunteer Larry --- rings awful close to home here. I trust Adirondak will find a way to honor her memory.
Carl - you may recall the wonderful elderly lady who worked in our gift shop. Sadly, she passed away last Saturday of complications from a broken hip. Plans were being made for a retirement party for her, as last year was the last she had planned to work. She was 87.
The space heater is making this the hot seat right now. We have 24 degrees outside, and the snow has stopped falling. We probably have five or six inches out there, from the looks of things. I'm going to be putting boots on and attacking the running (and walking) surfaces in our yard (and the neighbor's yard, if I'm not beaten to it) tomorrow. My friend from Michigan elected to stay home today; she'll head down tomorrow (her mother, 92, is undergoing rehab from a hip replacement in Wheaton). She's a high-school classmate that I haven't seen in at least 30 years, but we'll try and get together while she's here this time. Still working my IHRC file; it is nowhere near done, and I'm nowhere closer to the answers I wanted to pass on to my friends about the IHRC/GSOR gondolas. It doesn't help that the Surface Transportation Board website is apparently down today. So far, three new files have been created incidentally to all of this, so it's not a total loss.
Mookie Murray edblysard 81 in the sawmp, with a breeze off the gulf. Couch calling for a nap attack..... I have the windows open in the house...nice breeze. Well, not to be out done - I had a south window open by my desk for most of the pm. This after a snow/sleet squall early this morning. 59 may not be 80, but better than the -16 we did have not that long ago.

Murphy Siding How to tell when you're having a Monday. Power went off sometime in the night. Ice followed by snow after midnight cooked a transformer somewhere. But, no power loss at work. Being the good employee, I dressed by the light of a cellphone. Why not use a flashlight you ask? Because all the batteries are dead. Candles? Yeah-right! I found 2 little votive candles that were about burnt out. At least the kitchen smells good. Remember how you can pull a little rip cord on the garage door, and manually open it? Sure you can- after you rummage around in the dark garage to find an old curtain rod to untangle the rip cord from some frayed cable up above it, while standing on a bucket. To be honest, if you turn on the car lights, and open the door, there is almost enough light to see. Almost. So, I smell bad. I need a shave. My hair is standing on end. And I'm wearing a pink dress shirt, and a purple and brassy colored, patterned necktie that looks like it was made from the leftover material used to make a wing back chair in Liberace's den. But hey- the sun's shining, and the weather liars say we may get a few days of warmth before the next blast of deep freeze air.

You do, don't you? Maybe I should check the Chatterbox receipts?
Murray The fog has burned off here in San Antonio, and its now partly cloudy and 78 degrees.

Go ahead---- rub it in.
Up here at the east end of Lake Ontario, it takes a westerly wind to give us lake effect. If the wind is easterly, everybody is getting nailed.
Been clear here for the past few days - but we're supposed to get part of that storm Carl and Norm are seeing. This time of year, clear means cold at night, and -20F was about right.
Better go fill the bird feeders. The suet cakes are about gone, and the Yankee feeder is empty. The other feeders are OK, but need to be "topped off." The suet feeders attract several woodpeckers (downy and hairy) as well as the nuthatches. The goldfinches love the Yankee feeder.
Not sure this is lake effect, Norm...the winds are strong out of the southeast, and the storm has moved in from the southwest. Forecast totals are a little lower now, from three to six inches. The barometer's still falling, though, so I fear the worst is ahead of us yet.It looks like western Michigan is getting hit again as well. I'm still not sure about lake effect, though--with the lake mostly frozen over it doesn't have as much of an impact. Having said that, it does appear that there's a heavier band of snow at the southern end of the lake right now. There have been patches of ice in our area, but they've avoided us so far.I saw a train on the Rochelle webcam; they are getting a bit of snow, too. Theirs is supposed to end earlier than ours, probably in a couple of hours or so.
