Mookie

"We" were wondering if you were going to do a "ski" trip....

Been there, done that.  Took me 10 minutes to clear the snow out of one switch.

Big Moose hill would be fun in the snow - five miles of 1.1+% grade.  It's enough fun on dry rail.

Took our brush truck up to the small parade in the next town.  It was nothing like the Memorial Day parades of my youth in Michigan - floats, bands, vet's organizations,  kids with crepe in the spokes of their bikes, you name it.

Probably mow this afternoon - looks like Joe may be sending us some wetness.  At least maybe it'll be warm...

Lightning !  How nice!  Did have some very high winds - S & W a tad from us, but nothing @ the homestead.  Just wonderful Lightning  Paradise

Daughter/SIL/grandson home from Hong Kong and Malaysia - to hot water showers, soap, soft beds and no leeches, etc.  3 happy campers!

Off to drown some plastic bait...it works - but I don't know how!  (silly bass!)

Been gone all day.  Boy do I have a "blob" to write!

Went fishing - lake up and over the sidewalk that runs around the lake that runners run.....on.  Part of boat dock on south side now on east side snugged up next to the darn.  Fish must have drowned since no bites except for a turtle that has no taste (plastic worm)

Then went to watch site so Driver could get in a nap.  All sorts of items:  UP engine (2nd motor) on freight.  NS engine (2nd motor) on freight. (NS was doing mosquito abatement.  Lots of white smoke!) Saw a scale car.  2 BN SD60 whiteface - freight.  Saw tarped gons - thinking dirty dirt?  Joe? Heading your way - so peek and see what it is and let me know.  And Tonka toys in and out of the excavation yard across the tracks!

Then had to do some shopping south of town and saw BNSF MOW doing crossing signal work on Kyle Line.  This won't mean anything except possibly to Mudchicken.  He and I have a long history of me keeping track of what is going on with the Kyle Line.  So far, nothing - which is easy to keep tabs on.  All from here - must write Brother Carl and ask a few, pertinent questions about car #s.

Tree - saw your doppelganger at Earl May's - buying plants or getting potted - not sure which.  Wasn't dressed as spiffy as your conductor pictures!  Person

Blob finished and me, too!

Schedule got turned upside down to accommodate the highway department. (Can't block traffic in the day) - You'd think they never saw a survey crew work in the dark. (Learned a few 4-letter words from some frustrated bumpkinsConfused) - Joseph, I don't know how you do it.

Really annoying when somebody decides to get on your side of the cones that was not invited.

Sixty miles of running today on a ferry move. Won't be long and I'll be officially qualified on a bunch more track.

Tomorrow we're playing with the FRA...

First post from my tablet - can't do my usual font and color from it, tho.

Tree - Ferry move?

And - I can't type on my iPad - I need a "real" keyboard....Takes me forever otherwise.

Update on weather - we live about 4.5 to 5 miles from "ye olde fishing hole".  We have had enough rain that the Driver ought to be able to cast there from our back yard.  A lot of underpasses around city are "under" and the lake is where the overflow goes from surrounding farmland.  It was full on Tues.  So we will go out there and watch from on high while the ducks and geese swim over the picnic tables.  Watched them do that a few years ago.  Something new to do!

Mookie, you do not need a boat to ferry something on a railroad; you just need something, such as a locomotive, to move what is needed there from where it is (here). Perhaps we will hear, from the engineer, what was needed where it was not.

Johnny - I hadn't heard that word used that way in eons!  However, I would suggest that he round up - a snow shovel, pontoons, lots of rain gear and ear plugs.

We are moving a lot of water that way - along with thunder noise and I see the Mts. west of Denver had snow - and he lives sorta close to Mts.

So Tree - ferry away!

Yes, Mookie, the weather out west of you has not been what we expect it to be here, on the back side of the Rockies, two months into spring. I still have to have some heat on my lower floor--Katie was surprised two or three days ago to see that I am still heating my living room-dining room-kitchen (she would leave a window open on her floor when it was cold so she and Jackie would not get too hot). We had cold rain here the first part of the week, so that there has been snow in the mountains is not surprising.

I also do not remember when I had last heard or seen "ferry" used in connection with moving a car or something else from where it was not needed to where it was needed--but I remembered, and I am only 77 years old.Smile

Mookie

Tree - Ferry move?

No, we didn't move a ship.

Occasionally we have to move our equipment from one point to another, sans passengers.  In this case we had to pick up two coaches that had been left on a siding for us by another crew, and take them to Thendara.

Today's job was to take an FRA track geometry car over our line (and the shortline's line), which we did.  Impressive piece of machinery, and nice people to work with.   Mud may have encountered these folks once or twice.  We had #220 on the line today.

These things get around.  I was told the car would be in Wyoming this summer...

Stuff to do here at home tomorrow, then back on the railroad.

Mad Mad Shocked ***!

For the past hour we had a winged visitor IN our house...a bat.

All three cats jut spent the entire time leaping, jumping, clicking, mewling and all else after this bat...

Help Shocked

I had to get my trusty squash racquet out and clobber the poor thing out of the air and into a little bag...and take the poor fellow outside...whereupon it flew around me then took off elsewhere.... HiHi Smile Smile

Several contractors, not sure how many feds (they weren't wearing hats), several state DOT people, as they own the ROW, plus our MOW guy and train crew (me and the engineer).

They run a tight ship - had to make sure we were on our best behavior!   On the other hand, they're still pretty laid back.  The jumbalaya was excellent!

Apparently one lesson they've learned the hard way is to officially test dead end lines on the way out.  Seems that they don't relish finding a "fatal" defect on the way in as it tends to trap them until the defect can be fixed.  We didn't find an such defects yesterday.

9:08 Houston time, Moore Ok getting hammered again by twisters…if you pray for others, now would be a good time.

Larry,

Four fire fighters killed, one in hospital so far for smoke inhalation and heat exposure, fire went 5 alarms in minutes.

My wife was in her agencies admin office, directly across the freeway from it, they watched and she said it went from a small first floor fire to engulfing the whole front of the motel in a matter of minutes….as fast as one of the people called 911, it had spread up and across the roof.

Older motel, common attic, cheap sprinkler system, you know the rest…roof and or wall collapsed on the fire fighters, who were doing a search and rescue for potential victim.
