Slush.

Woke up about 4 to find minor freezing rain, but it's pretty messy outside.  Schools delayed to the south, some closed to the north.

Gotta take a fire truck to the shop for some work.

Mookie

FYI - I didn't fall - It was the diner - it fell to the 2nd page and I had to bring it back up.

However, I do run into doorways - my elbows don't seem to fit sometimes.  Either that or I wobble?

Tom, hope things improve for both of you.

Sir Chicken - we traded in the snow for just plain cold and windy.  Nary a flake here so far.  And that's not all bad.

You're correct, Larry--she was your first cousin, once removed.  Your kids would be her first cousins, twice removed.  You and her kids (if she had any) would be second cousins.

I now have a first cousin three-times removed, which means that my cousin (only two years older than I) is a great-grandmother!

I hate it when that happens...  Indifferent

Nice day here so far.  I think we're supposed to get a piece of "Rocky" tomorrow and Thursday.  Might be wet, might be white...

Will be attending services for  a cousin this week.  She was actually my mother's first cousin, which makes us first cousins, once removed, I think.  I can never keep that straight.  She was the grandmother of one part of that young couple I've mentioned before to whom I am related to both by blood and marriage...

Good Tuesday morning all.  Raining here in Shepherdsville, Ky this morning.  Woke up around 4 something this morning, hearing thunder, lightning & pouring rain.  I did manage to go back to sleep, until just before 6 a.m.  Brother was getting ready to leave for work:  he's back on 7a to 7p shift, last week and this week, at least.  SIL gone to work also, and girls at school.  This rain we're getting today is to turn to snow sometime between tonight and tomorrow; but temps are staying in the mid to upper 30s, so shouldn't cause too many problems, just a little bit accumulation on grassy areas, and roads remaining on the wet side.

Tom, hope you and Mrs. are beginning to feel better.  Saying prayers for you both.

Everybody take care, have a good day, keep safe and talk with you all later.

Peace be with you. 39 and rain in Carolina this morning just after sunrise. We are supposed to have thunder through noon and scattered showers through the afternoon.

Things have been tough healthwise for me  and the wife is coming off a nasty virus.

Everyone take care and have a great week.

BOC - I don't know if Boeing has a specific schedule thru here, since I don't get to go watch on a regular basis, but during the summer months it seemed like it would go thru here at least twice in a week.  Back then they were doing at least once out and back, but could have possibly been more.

Well, everyone got really excited again over a possible snow storm and in doing so, made it go south of us for the most part.  I hope they can stay excited until about mid-May to keep the snow away.

I was watching the weather report and it always amazes me that the weather seems to stop right at county or state borders, ie - the border between KS and NE with only one slop over in SW NE near McCook.  Smile

Q - we will take a couple of gallons of the extra water you have.  Our last snow melted and managed to leave only a couple of puddles of actual water.

Sigh....

Not much going on here weather-wise until Wednesday, when it's supposed to rain.  Hopefully not too much, as the ground is mostly frozen so it'll run right off, and that often creates problems.

The train show in Syracuse yesterday was fairly quiet - probably partly due to competition with the big race, at least in the afternoon.  Still, we made lots of contact with the visitors and may gain a few riders as a result.

Yea, Joe....I see it coming.  First outline of it's path puts the worst of it slighty north of us, but we can't depend on that....It has time to move about.

Actually, our water table is back up from the drought last Summer, so if anyone would like to have our share, be free to seek it....

Mooks:

The snow started last night about 10PM and has not stopped. 10-12 inches now and double that in the drifts.

Fortunately, the promised blizzard was a no-show. The boys are now sno-snarks. You will get some of this.

Went out about 2 pm to watch trains; 42 degrees and very sunny.  Sweatshirts only.  Home @ 4 pm with clouds and east wind, mid 30's.  Maybe snow tonite and tomorrow.

Did see 1/8th of a Boeing train coming from the south (one body) and quite a few trains.  Joe - we watched a young man with a toddler (about 18-20 mos) sitting in a seat on his back, watching trains.  They live nearby and he was introducing his son to train watching.  A Joe & Matt moment.  He talked about the trains to the toddler just like the toddler knew exactly what each engine was and what it was hauling.

But what was most interesting was the toddler took his knit hat off for about 20 min and held it in his hand the whole time and then when Dad said it was time to put it back on, he did so.  What kid ever held a hat and didn't drop it in the first min?

Four hours of driving for a two hour meeting.  But it was important.

Unfortunately, I left the house without my cell  phone, so had to drive 15 minutes back to get it, putting me a half hour behind (and a half hour late for the meeting).

The driving wasn't bad, though - some slushy roads, but for the most part just wet.

Old Railroads Never Die Department - On the way home I heard the fire dispatcher in the next county over send out an ambulance for a medical emergency on one of the snowmobile trails - described by the dispatcher as "the old Glenfield & Western roadbed."  The "Gee Whiz" was taken up over 80 years ago...

Tree,

In my state, New Jersey, it is illegal to drive your car without clearing the snow off the roof and the law is enforced.  This is because snow blowing on other peoples' windshields has caused accidents.

However, I keep my car in a garage.  I'm a traditional conservative.  I want a garage and I want my car in the garage.  It helps a lot.

Your truck sounds clean enough to eat off of.  I don't clean my car as well as you do but I do clean all of the glass -- all windows, mirrors and lenses on the lamps.

I laugh in your general direction Smile, Wink & Grin.

This time of year you'd be eating with a healthy dose of grit and an unhealthy amount of salt...

It's not that the truck is all that clean - but I've seen too many cars with a foot or more of snow on their roof (and trunk), driving down the road.

Too, I have a light bar on the roof of the truck, and it would be helpful if people could see it if I'm enroute to a fire call or on the scene of a traffic incident.

As for the inside, cluttered would be a good description.  Laugh

I usually clear everything, including the top of the cab, hood, and even the 'camper' over the bed.

Deggesty

Larry, be sure to clear your windshield (I am preaching to the choir, am I not?)

Fortunately, the mist that was freezing on was thin and easily removed using the wipers and washer fluid.

It does, however, always drive me nuts to see the folks who clear just enough to see where they're going...  Barely.

Since my truck is usually in the garage, I rarely have to clear it off unless I get caught out in weather.  When I do clear it off, I usually clear everything, including the top of the cab, hood, and even the 'camper' over the bed.

After the dinner meeting last night we were greeted with a freezing mist.  Which stuck nicely to the windshield until it got warmed up.  Drove out of it on the way home though.

Looks like it's going to come over us, but shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.  I've got a lot of driving to do this weekend, though.  Don't need slick roads to be part of the equation.

Time to check the snail mail and get back to the project at hand.

Larry, be sure to clear your windshield (I am preaching to the choir, am I not?) Two or three days ago, a woman here cleared just enough frost from her windshield so she could see ahead--and hit a man she did not see and knocked him into the path of a Traxx train, which mortally injured him. She is in great trouble now.

Q - I am going to have you e-mail me a copy of that wand.  That would really come in handy!

Well - we got a lot of publicity and Jim Cantore, but only 4 inches of snow.  And it is light and blowy; no moisture at all.  Sun is out and while not exactly warm, the direct rays should melt some of it.  The drought is really bad when it won't snow because there is no moisture.  This summer I will be looking for the delivery of sand for the yard.  No water, no grass.  And the state we are trying to emulate - AZ had snow, too.  Wonder if they had more than we did?
