Got a foot of snow in our panhandle and far north.  We got a 40mph wind yesterday.  Seems like a good trade-off!

Sunny, but 32 and cold today.  Little windy.  Week promises to be much better.

Going to go sit by the mailbox and wait for my boiled owl award.

Re:  page 11 scoop.....Bow   I had read that story, and didn't make the connection.

Both Friday and Saturday evening news had the local weathermen so excited they were going to pee their pants.  One guy did his entire weather "event" in one, 90 m.p.h.. five minute blast, without taking a single breath.  He was just so excited that the blizzard to end all blizzards was happening on his watch.  He was so overwound, he used the phrase "..and it's downhill from there"  at least a dozen times. Dead

We got 1.3" of snow.  Of course, some of our *local* viewers got over a foot of snow....but they're 400 miles away..  My son said, if they have to name another one of these blizzards to end all blizzards, that they should call it something realistic....like Blowhard, or Windbag.

Now, if I can just figure out the boiled owl reference...Huh?

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

"Weather weenies" can make foamers seem normal.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

"Weather weenies" can make foamers seem normal.

And they even have their own channel on cable!

Can you imagine a 24-hour channel full of just railroad shows (real and model), with "reality" shows like "Train Chasers," and "Railroad Police - LA?"  Never mind breathless, round-the-clock coverage of major incidents and events...

As has been noted here in the past, I like to feed the birds - they can be entertaining, if a tad expensive (40 Lbs of black oil sunflower seed is almost $30 now - vs about $12 for 50 Lbs before the big ethanol 'boom').

Just took a look at the feeders and counted 6 cardinal pairs - a personal "best."  They tend to congregate at the feeders at dusk, but this is the most I've seen at once.  Word must be spreading!

Not a good week or so for fires around here.  Two houses were heavily damaged in one incident in the south of the county, and a resident who normally medicates to sleep escaped when a neighbor spotted flames at his house before he called it a night (it was a good stop besides).  The resident of a trailer succumbed to as yet undisclosed (but not suspicious) causes when his home burned last weekend, and a fire in a neighboring county has claimed a life tonight.  Firefighters are still on the scene of that one.

How are your smoke detectors?

(1) Replaced all six smoke detectors in October and will change batteries come "spring forward"....It's not only "is the detector working?", but also is "the sensor working?". After one failed and drove BossHen nuts in the process, replaced them all. The CO detectors are another story entirely.

(2)BarkBrothers are bummed. No scottie or westie placed this year at Westminster. Get 'em next year!

(3) Mooks: We had two people go down with rotator cuff surgery and another to knee replacement. Posted two job openings and neither has filled yet. (to cover working in the field)  Nobody wants to travel or be away from home that's qualified. Lot'sa "sugar-boots" out there. The demographics got warped and where the heck did the work ethic go?

(4) BOC - will be in your backyard in less than 20 days.

Mudchicken Nothing is worth taking the risk of losing a life over. Come home tonight in the same condition that you left home this morning in. Safety begins with ME.... cinscocom-west

Tree - had to replace the CO detector a year ago.  If any go off, I will pass out from fright and have to be carried out!

Sir C - maybe feed da boyz a goose dinner?  I was rooting for the scottie and the sheep dog.  And the westie - memories of Andy.  Did you see that English Bulldog - walking toward the camera, it looked like a walking footstool!  And the French Bulldog - they actually do look like they are grinning!  How funny!

From the pix you send me, I don't blame people for not wanting to do your work.  I wouldn't drive by let alone stand in some of the places you go!

SJ, remind us not to take you to the restaurant we found in Gary, then, just the other side of town from where MC took those pictures.  It's a nice enough place, but to get to it you drive over roads and under bridges (and over tracks) just like that.  We hope to make it there for lunch tomorrow, on our way to the Land of Ice and Snow (and no trains Sad ).

BC - after visiting with der Chicken, I haven't placed Gary IN really high on my list of visiting spots.  And before I get a rotten tomato from Gary lovers, there are places in Lincoln that are not high on my visiting list.

Millie goes really fast thru those areas to get to our watch site and she never, ever goes there after dark!

Good Thursday morning and Happy Valentine's Day to you all!  Received a 3-piece box of Valentine candy from Allie Cat this morning, along with a Valentine bag of Skittles.  Although, even though there wasn't a message on it, the box of candy could have been from her big sister, Shelby.  The Skittles are still unopened, but the little box of Whitman's is gone, gone, gone.

Have a Valentine heart shaped cake out of the oven, and it has cooled and been iced and decorated, ready for you all to dig into.  Also have roast, taters & carrots in the oven, and will be ready for your lunch in just a little bit.  There's also plenty of it for supper tonight.

We got a little bit of snow yesterday morning, but it didn't stick around too long at all.  Even with the heavy, almost white out conditions for a little while.  High yesterday was in the mid to upper 40s, so nothing stayed around for long.  Sun is shining right now, and we're to see highs today in the low 50s.

Everyone take care, have a great day and keep safe.

SJ, you'd have to trust me on this one.  It's a nice "mom and pop" place, safe, good clientele, good food, and a step out the door to see trains.  Nothing threatening around it.  And main lines of both NS and CSX are within a few hundred feet--NS is the one visible right outside.  And Pat likes it...'nuff said!

But I have taken a couple of bicycle trips that went right through downtown Gary.  One time I got a flat tire, and remembered thinking, "This might make a lot of sane people nervous..."  But I was able to buy a patch kit (didn't have a spare tube), and sit on the steps of City Hall to fix it (temporarily...not so good at patching, but it got me to the edge of town, where I waited for rescue at Miller).

Mookie, sounds like a good diet to me!  We've got sunshine here in Shepherdsville, but not going to get very warm today.  High in the low to mid 30s, and tomorrow, temps may make it to 40.  Would be nice, especially if my niece gets to take me back to Church tomorrow.

Everyone have a great day, enjoy your weekend, and talk with you all later.
