Evening all, am safe from Sandy for now, turned down a Baltimore load to keep out of it, don't think the dispatcher wanted to send anyone there anyway. Everyone keep safe this week....

Good Evening

Got the last minute things bought..all stocked up on batteries for the flashlights, candles, and other whatzits...plus other groceries such as needed. Like I said before..generator at the ready and what all else besides....

Around here they are forecasting anything from 2" just west of us to 6" around the Toronto ON region...and winds around 40-55 mph...who knows what merry mayhem might develop....Dead

Here is hoping that everyone makes it through OK....Angel

Good Monday morning all.  Coffee, juices, hot tea and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  toast, oatmeal, biscuits, sausage, eggs, sausage gravy.

To everyone in Sandy's path, please take care, be safe, careful, etc., as we all want you back in here safe and sound, when Sandy is over and done with her/his havoc along the East Coast.

Good Morning

Well, they have a wind warning out for us'uns here...winds from the north this afternoon 35-45 mph then up to 55-60 mph all night into tomorrow before it all dies down...apparently we are only going to get about 2" of rain here...after all the dang rain we got all last week....

If you all do not hear/read me on this forum it will be because we have lost power as well....so take care, everyone!!

.....Here in our central Indiana location, we're seemingly in much better shape to not see much of the actual storm, but perhaps it will effect our weather for a few days.

Bright this morning....with some sun filtering thru light clouds and upper thirty's earlier this morning....Perhaps not much warmer now.  Some light wind.

Guess I'll have to wait to about Friday to do my next mow / mulching of leaves around my place.  Wet, cold and windy before then.

Have family and loved one in this Sandy's path in Pennsylvania, so must keep close watch, and issue Prayers for everone in it's path.

Waiting patiently for things to start happening here.  The wind is picking up a bit, but it's not a "storm" level's yet.

The models have the center of the storm tracking almost directly over us.  Apparently that doesn't translate to a lot of rain, though, as they're still only forecasting an inch or less for us.

I think I've got the hatches all battened, fuel tanks filled, and I even froze some containers of water to help carry the fridge over if we do lose power (apparently a virtual certainty).

Should be fun!

Guess our current temp is somewhere in the low 50's, but feels like mid/upper 30s to low 40s outside.I'm really glad that Walt decided to bring the flag in last night, because the wind has really been blowing here.

For supper tonight:

1.  Sarah is making s chicken & dumplings plus

2.  I have fixed up a big pot of beef stew and have cornbread in the oven as I'm typing.

Everyone keep safe, have a good evening and see you all later or in the morning.

Evening..

Been raining and getting windier as I type...winds trending north to northeasterly at 40 mph gusts up to 55 mph right now..supposedly getting higher later on.

So far power is still on although I did notice that down the road a ways no lights on....trees looking pretty bare of leaves right now.

Better be getting off the 'puter here...try to have a safe evening here....

Good Tuesday morning all.  Temp in the low 40s, right around 44 here in the city.  Going for a high in the low 50s again today.  Winds are still pretty strong, and gusting.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And you'll find the warmer bar has a selection of good hot breakfast foods ready and waiting.

Everyone have a good morning; hope all our Eastern Shore folks are hanging in there this morning, and doing okay.

Good Morning

Welp...here at our manse our anenometer read at 1:35 am a gust from the north of 110 kph...about 75 mph. We lost power for about 2 hours after that...London Hydro took care of that little interruption...there are a number of pockets around here that have yet to see power restored as winds have taken a lot of trees down. The big ol' Maple tree that used to sit in behind our crescent went down taking a number of townhouses with it..neighbourhood is taking care of the victims here....

So, with all that out of the way I'll be having a coffee as I look over the forums......help those in need of help...take care ...

The windy part is over, now we get to wait a couple of days until the center of circulation (and whatever it brings) gets here.

The anemometer at the weather station logged a 40 MPH gust, and I measured 30 MPH with a hand anemometer in the field.

We ran three calls.  Two minor "trees in the road" incidents, and one where the unusual-for-us north wind blew primaries against a tree, resulting in a tree fire and one of the primaries burning apart.  We waited around for the utility to show and were done with it.

A fire department in Oswego County fought a trailer fire in 60-70 MPH winds.

In NYC, 80 houses were lost in a beach area fire.  Access was an issue, and there are pictures of fire trucks parked in nearly knee deep water.

Haven't heard from my son - he's in the Annapolis, MD area, and I think they got hit pretty hard.

Seems our little home town area {southwest Pennsylvania}, survived with even keeping it's power on...But snow flakes were falling.  Everytime I checked the wind there yesterday, we here in central Indiana had higher sustained....14 vs. 21 mph.

Lots of rain in eastern Pennsylvania...Haven't heard from a niece in Phila. yet...A friend in Levittown.

We're still under a wind advisory here until 8 pm.  Could see gusts of up to 50 mph a possibility.  But believe we are in very little potential trouble here....light rain, temps in the 40's.

We send {and sent}, out Prayers for all people in this storm's path....

At 2:16 p.m., winds are still very brisk, and temp is still in the 40s, I believe.  Feels like late November weather here in Louisville.

Joe, I like you idea for supper:  I'd already put on a big ole pot of vegetable beef soup, for anyone who doesn't want leftover chicken & dumplings.  We also have beef stew left, and I've baked some more cornbread.

We had Produce inside the gym this morning, and it was nice and cozy in there!  On the truck today:  potatoes (we had our choice of 5# and 10# bags of potatoes), cabbage, onions and 1/2 pints of skim milk.  Ended up serving 52 people.  So that's not bad for a very cold, windy Tuesday.

Larry, hope that whenever you do hear from your son, that they are okay, and made it through with few problems.

And Joe, glad your relatives are all safe.

Quentin, hope your niece in Philly is safe & sound, as well.

Everyone take care, have a good afternoon/evening, and see you all later.

C.W. We had 152 folks for our produce day on thurs. The usual folk who live here,(65- to 70) were here ,also some new faces appeared. Winter visitors made up the lot. Produce row in PHX. gets several carloads in from Cal.  and Mex. by trainfor the grocers.  There is plenty to go around  for the food programs  from the chain stores  grocers.

Looks like we're going to dodge a "direct hit" by the remains of Sandy.  The "eastern" midwest is going to get it instead.  I would like to be able to check out the waves on Lake Michigan first hand...

Getting things ready for the train show in Syracuse this weekend.  If anyone is going to be going to be there, stop by and say hi!

Good Wednesday morning all.  Very cool out, with a current temp around 44 degrees; at least the wind has decreased, so not too bad outside when I stepped out on the porch awhile ago.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is ready and on the warmer/serving station bar.

Cannonball, it's been several years since our little center has seen that many people at Tuesday Produce.  And the only reason we saw that increase then, was because the other main center in this part of town was closed for inventory.  Otherwise, our usual high is about 80 - 90 people.

You all have a good morning, take care, keep safe and see you all later.

C W:  Niece and family are ok in Philadelphia.  But they did have some excitement.

An oak tree in their front yard gave up a large limb, and went down over some power lines....It did start to smoke, but didn't sever the power line...

Then that same tree gave up another one, and it came down over the lines incoming to their home...{but did not break the wires}, but the impact did rip the electric meter from it's mount on the house...and continued with continuity...Amazing..!  Lucky it didn't start a fire....

Well, I have had a busy busy morning:  my friend from Church, who was also confirmed Sunday, came by to see if I could fix/bake/decorate another friend's contribution to the first lady's Halloween Party for tonight.  I told her I would.  She thanked me, and told me if I did the cupcakes, I wouldn't have to worry about my contribution:  homemade brownies.  I told her she had a deal.  Was busy icing them, and heard the doorbell:  it was her, back an hour early to pick them up.  As I was just in the process of icing them, she pitched in, and helped by putting the Halloween sprinkles on top of the icing.

Since most people will be busy either working, taking younguns out trick or treating, or passing out candy, here is our supper menu for tonight:

1.  Sausage balls, tacos, burritos, barbecue sandwiches, burgers & hot dogs, along with fries.

Walt and I will be guarding the door, and passing out  candy here at home.

Good Thursday morning all, and Happy November 1st.  Starting out with a temp of  39 degreees F. here in Louisville this morning.  At least the winds have calmed down, now 5 mph or so, so very different from the last several days.  Our high today should be around 55, 56 degrees.

BC, thank you so much for fixing breakfast and the coffee, etc.  Sending thoughts and prayers your way, that after today, you won't need any more chemo & radiation.  Take care of yourself, o.k.?

Well, as far as trick or treaters went last night, Walt and I figure we had about 10:  mostly preteens, along about 2 or 3 little ones.  So a pretty calm night around our street.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all this afternoon.

Matt was named student of the month for his class.

Congrats!  Good to know those french fries haven't hurt him any!

Rainy morning here, which is good, since I've got lots to do inside.

A trip into town on tap for later - gotta hit up the after-holiday sale at the Halloween store!  More decorations for the Pumpkin Patch next year.
