Flat Wheel Café 4th Quarter 2012
Posted by Deggesty on Monday, October 1, 2012 2:45 AM

I woke up and decided to spend the time in doing something useful, so I came down and started moving into the new quarter's quarters. I'll get the basic things done, and the rest of you may decorate it to your liking.

Thank you so much, Johnny!!  That was the reason I managed to get up this early this morning, so that I could finish getting things moved over.  How are you doing, Johnny?  So hard to believe we are almost through another year.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is ready as well:  Southwestern omelets (or you can have fried, scrambled or poached eggs), made from scratch buttermilk biscuits, bacon, sausage links & patties and sausage gravy.

We are starting off the morning with a temp of 59 degrees, going for a high of 64 degrees this afternoon, with rain showers headed our way, probably in a couple of hours.

You all take care, have a good morning, and see you all this afternoon.

Bright, but overcast....maybe some showers later....Maybe.

58 degrees now, and should get close to 70 according to weather people.

Still, no one has commented what the construction over at Roanoke video hotel cam view is...Curious.  Did read sometime ago of a passenger train proposal thru there, but don't know if any movement has progressed on that....

Figures - three days of clouds and drizzle (and leaf peepers), then today, when we aren't running trains (and everyone is back to work), it's a nice sunny day.

Trying to get caught up on chores and other necessary tasks.

Well, we are getting rain, seems to be slacking a bit right now, as I'm sitting here at the puter, looking out the front door, drinking a cup of hot chocolate.

Here is our menu for the rest of the afternoon and evening:

1.  Beef stew w/baked cornbread and garden salad

2.  Country fried chicken w/mashed taters, green beans, corn, buttermilk biscuits w/milk gravy and garden salad

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all in the morning.

I understand the Next Stop Tupper Lake folks are in the market for some ties.  They are very interested in getting trains to Tupper.

As are we - but at between, say, $500K and $1M a mile for rehab (maybe less in some areas), it's a tough go.

Too, we're dealing with a few well-funded, vocal people who are aiming for having the rails removed.  It's been suggested that they really aren't interested in the rails-to-trails they profess to support.  Instead, they may well be interested in removing the blight the railroad (and the snowmobiles that use the ROW in winter) represent so certain areas currently traversed by the railroad can be completely returned to "forever wild."

It's tough for an organization staffed chiefly by volunteers to keep up with the constant barrage the "pro-trail" folks provide, especially when it appears the local newspaper is also anti-railroad and won't run any pro-rail letters or other items.

Good Tuesday mornin' all.  And a Very Happy Birthday to our Buddy Dan, who has a Birthday today!!  Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day  I doubt we'll see him drop in, as, from what I understand over in the Trackside Lounge, he'll be hunting today.  But I'm wishing him all good wishes and many happy returns for today.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is also ready and waiting on the breakfast-warmer serving station.

We have a lot of things to get taken care of today, so I may not be back in until late, late afternoon.  So just in case, there are plenty of leftovers from last night, and I've also got a big ole pot of vegetable beef soup cooking on the  stove top.

Everyone take care, have a good morning/day and see you all later.

Mudchicken, I like your idea!!  Over half the phone calls that show up on our caller ID are political ads.  Sick to death of them!

Everything is heated/warmed up for supper and is on the warmer serving station.

Our workers did not show up today:  they got the date wrong, and will be here tomorrow, sometime between 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.  And we had everything ready for them, and just waiting to load the 2 indoor cats into the carriers, and everything else ready for them to start work.  Grrrrrrrr.

Everyone have a good evening, take care, and see you all in the morning.

Evening all. I just got the computer back after an extortion attempt.Somebody claiming to be the FBI locked the system and demanded that I pay a $200 "fine" by way of a money order bought at KMart or CVS Pharmacy in order to get it unlocked!! They also said that having malware on a PC was punishable by a fine of $100K and 4 to 9 years in prison, so I had better pay up within 72 hrs!!. My buddy, who is in the business got things unlocked and cleaned up, PTL!

Things continue to percolate along here in Carolina. Nothing else to report except to wish Dan a belated happy birthday.

Everyone take care and stay safe.

Good Wednesday morning all.  58 degrees here in Louisville, going for a high in the low 70s this afternoon.

Tom, how did they contact you and lock your computer??

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is also ready and on the serving station:  bacon, sausage links, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, toast, biscuits, gravy, and tater tots are on the menu this morning.

Gotta get a move on, get the bills paid, and get ready for our workers to be here later this morning.  It's going to be another loooonng day around here.

Everyone have a good morning, take care  and see you all sometime later.

Nice day here in Bettendorf, IA, where you can sit in the sleeper with the windows and vents open and not cook. Supposed to get cool, though, might have a day where I have to fire up the heater overnight.....

Well, since I wrote the above, I got dispatched and loaded, am now about 20 miles north of Mount Pleasant, IA, headed for Oconto Falls, WI. Should be nice tonight, but cool tomorrow. Catch y'all on the flip-flop......
