BC - Here's hoping for the best for you.

Dreary day here today, but that's not a problem as I spent most of the day in the print shop turning out tickets for a local church's booster club.  Kind of a mist falling tonight.

Friday is our annual outing to the local elementary school, where we again try to instill some fire safety in the kids.  The paradox of any prevention program is that there's virtually no way to know if it's successful.  We can only hope that one reason we don't have any more fires than we do is because the kids have learned their lessons well.

The program we do has been going for over 20 years, so it's entirely likely that we're seeing kids of some of the kids we saw "back when."

I usually handle the fourth graders, who get some fire science, are amazed by the thermal imaging camera, then get a tour of an engine (pumper) outside.  In the afternoon, I generally do the fifth graders as they visit the fire station.  Following a lecture on how the 9-1-1 system works, they get the run of the place, and sometimes we'll do a timed donning of our protective clothing (bunkers), much to the amusement and amazement of the kids.

It's a fun day.

Nice day here in Bettendorf, IA, where you can sit in the sleeper with the windows and vents open and not cook. Supposed to get cool, though, might have a day where I have to fire up the heater overnight.....

Well, since I wrote the above, I got dispatched and loaded, am now about 20 miles north of Mount Pleasant, IA, headed for Oconto Falls, WI. Should be nice tonight, but cool tomorrow. Catch y'all on the flip-flop......

Any idea if you'll be around the area a while?

Good Thursday morning all.  Managed to sleep in until 6:40, so I've only been up just over an hour.  Think I needed the extra sleep.

BOC, hope everything goes all right today, and that you'll be getting a clean bill of health today!!

Our temp is in the upper 50s, going for a high of 80, 81 this afternoon.  But, I did hear something about maybe some snow flurries or very light snow showers for the weekend.  Definitely will like lower temps, but not looking forward to having any snow around here until more towards Halloween, or the first week of November!!

Everyone take care, have a good morning and see you all sometime this afternoon:  got a call from one of the ladies in our Dare to Care office last night.  She's not feeling well, and asked me to come in this morning at 10 and stay until 2 p.m., helping the other lady.  So that is where I'll be.

We had a storm!  2 flickers of lightning (tiny, tiny) and 12 drops of water!  Yesssss.....

It is 54, but very sunny, so seems a lot nicer - especially if you stay on the south side of the building where it isn't windy.

Interesting debate.  That's all I'm gonna say.

Nice out now, hopefully it's this nice in Alabama on Saturday, see everybody later.....

No hard feelings Randy.  Bills come first - believe me I know that!

Walt - thanks.  I'm just trying to help out.

Long days this week - my new (real world) responsibilities had me at 40 hours at around 12:30 on Wednesday.  5 AM to 5 PM today...tomorrow another 6 or 7.  Beats the alternative I say.

Gonna get chilly tomorrow & the weekend.  I'll be heading back to the woods for more hunting.  Kinda nice to have time and someone to go with!  Aedan should be joining me in around 4 or 5 years.  Will have to see how that goes.

Good Friday morning all.  Sorry about not getting back in yesterday, but things were just too busy around here, after I got home from my 4 hours of 'work'.

Mudchicken, it's 30 degrees cooler for you, because all the hot air left via airplanes, road vehicles, etc.Smile, Wink & Grin

Dan, congraultations on becoming one of the forum moderators.  I know you'll be fair in your decisions. BTW, did you find some of the chocolate cake you brought in for Tuesday?  I tried to 'hide' some so that you'd get some of your cake!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer part of the serving station this morning:  sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and fried taters; or, you have a good selection of doughnuts, danish, long johns, muffins, bagels and there's also some bear claws this morning.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all later.

Good Morning

Well...here in London ON the start of the cool down is upon us...yesterday we hit 77F today? 57F and falling...tomorrow will be the high of 50F...with a little tinkly shower or two....

We had to water the trees around here ourselves pretty much through the whole summer as we seem to  have had about 25-30% of the rain we usually get around here...and, apparently we look to be settling into a below normal pattern for the fall as well...yay.

Today will be not a relaxed day for moi...as I have a few things to still do...such as HD things have piled upGrumpy...so I better be working here...Whistling

Afternoon all.  Turning overcast outside, but rain's not supposed to be in until around 9 p.m. tonight.  Went to the library late morning and then stopped at grocery for a few things, in plenty of sunshine the whole time I was gone, which was about 2, 2 1/2 hours.

Here is our Friday Fish Fry menu:

FISH:  Bass, catfish, cod, flounder, haddock, halibut, perch, whitefish, shrimp (jumbo, popcorn) and Tilapia

SIDE DISHES:  Baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, cornbread, fries, hush puppies, macaroni & cheese, deep fried breaded mushrooms

DESSERTS:  Chocolate cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/caramel icing, apple, blackberry and strawberry/rhubarb, and pecan pies; apple and peach cobblers, with plenty of ice cream, whatever flavor you wish.

Everyone have a good evening, take care, and Mudchicken, hope the 'white alert' has disappeared from your area.

.....A damp, overcast, and rainy day.  Did I say it is cool too...51 right now, so that signaled me it's time to turn on some heat in parts of the house.  So....did so here in the office....family room....main bath.....and my bedroom...Just enough that the thermostats clicked.

So  far, haven't needed to do so, with sunshine and really enough heat coming off such stuff as the family room flat screen.....lights, and computer in here, and lights.

And since it's to be down in these numbers most of our weekend, nothing was going to help keep it up to living temp.  So added a bit of heat.

Still mowing, and now a bit of heat added....Doesn't really sound like they go together, but perhaps so, if needed.

I should mow again, but it's way too damp today.  Rain truncated some of our presentations for the kids - unfortunately, but that's the chance you take.

Gotta get packed for the railroad this weekend.  Two days worth, conductor both days.  I actually think we're running Monday (Columbus Day, although that's not really until Friday), but that's the day the truck goes in the shop.

For our Canadian neighbors, Happy Thanksgiving!  (I believe it's Monday.)

Back to my tasks at hand.

Good Saturday morning all.  43 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Our high today is to be only in the low 60s, I think is what I heard awhile ago on the morning news.  Quite breezy outside, too.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And our Saturday Brunch is ready and on the serving warmer station.

Need to check and see if we're having our Great American Fire Drill tomorrow.  So far, I haven't heard anything, or seen anything in the paper.  Maybe I'll have to make a call to Fire Headquarters to find out.  I know it is usually the first Sunday in October.

Larry, have fun being Conductor this weekend.  Which job do you like more:  being conductor, or engineer?

Everyone have a good day, take care and see you all later this afternoon/early evening.

Bright sunshine and blue sky here this morning...but cool.  38 earlier.

Turned heat on in various rooms...{almost all}, yesterday for the first time this season}.  Knew it was to be chilly all weekend.

Received 1.5" of rain in the last 24.  We should start to catch up on our rain deficit for this past season.  A bit of warming as the new week progressesl.

Everyone enjoy the weekend.

Since I can't decide, I will do one bacon, one sausage, maybe one more bacon, one sausage, and....

Did some trainwatching @ 7:30 a and 30 degrees.  That was brisk!  Millie got some exercise in the heating department.

Saw a couple of coal, an ethynol and a couple of freight.  Not terribly busy.  Doing trackwork on at least one of the 6 we have available.

Back to the debate - sausage/bacon/sausage.....
