Good afternoon all!
School was good today. Still working on my poetry project. That's due Thursday. (Sighhhhhhh.) My poetry is based mostly off the N&W 611. (The most beautiful girl on earth may I add.) Hope I get a good grade on it.
Cloudy with a temp in the 50's. Hope it gets warmer! It was pretty nice out around 1 o'clock today.
Hope to get out and do some rail fanning during spring break. I've started uploading my photos to Flickr. if you all don't I recommend it. the quality is very very good and you can upload multiple photos at a time, as opposed to one at a time on rrpicturearchives.net. Anyhow, hope to see lots of action on the high iron!
Have a swell day all!

Hello everyone.
Well, the Curling is over for the moment, and I an catching up on other things. Very unfortunate about the VIA wreck over in Ontario. Condolences to the families.
24° and sunny here today. After lunch I am going out for some groceries. Looks like not too bad a day for it.
Still trying to get the hang of the new sound system that came with my new TV. More time with my nose in operating manuals in my future, I think.
No RR news in my neck of the woods lately.

Good Afternoon Railfans!
Sorry for making my rounds a bit late today, we have a family medical emergency last night but all seems to be on the upward path today. Still poking along on building my new "Delaware & Hudson - A Rocky Mountain Empire" blog with 365 posts already done and have about 300 more to go to get current.

I felt sorry for Danica Patrick. She was entered in 3 races and was involved in a wreck in all three, none of which was her fault. She has had a fast car all week.
tree68 Q - I do recall reading that one driver got big money simply for leading at the halfway point. The only part of the event I saw was coverage of the "halftime show." They're lucky only one driver ran through the jet fuel running down the track (before it ignited). Might have gotten even more interesting. Running fire is always fun to deal with...

Larry....That was a wild Daytona 500 this time...even more so than usual.
That payout to the driver leading at half way, is done on occasion and is not new....But I believe the 200,000 dollars might be the most paid out yet for leading the 100th lap.
That fire with the track cleaning truck was one of a kind. Most were commenting of never seeing such a weird accident as this before. I know I never have and I've followed this series for decades.
The truck pulling the jet track cleaner / dryer was on the outer edge of the track...{high on the embankment of almost 31 degrees....moving slowly with a truck back of it severa hunder yards.....with flashing lights, etc... The race was in caution mode.
Car 42 was coming around the track {under Caution}, and was down on the very inside lane, doing just what he should have been doing, and just at a critical time....something broke on the car, and caused him to lose steering. The car took a right swerve and right up to the jet blower, and crashed into it backwards and on the driver's side.
Of course that caused sparks, and damaged the fuel system to the blower...{200 gal. of jet fuel} and it ignited. Well, the race car slid down the embankment and the driver was able to get out safely, and was not hurt....The race car was demolished.
Then that 200 gal. of jet fuel ran down the track embankment on fire. It took a bit of work by a dozen or more fire fighters to work on the fire, and soon fire trucks arrived at the top of the embankment, where there is a service road around the track, and began to work on the fire too.
It took some time to get that fire knocked down and to keep down. Eventually they conquered it. That was certainly a combination of strange events to happen just at the exact spot to make this massive wreck / fire, etc....happen. Race delayed for some time to take care of the track, having received some damage from the hot fire. The truck pulling the Jet cleaner / dryer was badly damaged too. It's driver got out safely too. Truck had to be moved down off the embankment, by 2 big fork lift type vehicles.
And of course the entire race was plagued with too many accidents. Believe all drivers came out of it with no moore than minor injuries. Speaks very well of the safety factors built into these race cars.
A lot of race equipment was ruined / destroyed during this race.
The race was started on Monday and didn't end until Tuesday....!
This race had just a bit more accidents / wrecks than a normal "restrictor plate" race usually has....There generally is a "big one", but this race was filled with "big ones"...!!
I'm sure the Nascar officials were glad to put this event to rest....finish....and especially not anyone seriously injured.

Darren; thanks for shareing the photos and videos. Is the apple farm and museum still there close to Grand Junction. They had a nice collection of rail cars from the way back then. Also the model train rail road was nice , but the Garden scale road was in dissaray. It really was or is an interesting place to see as well as the apples . Our daughter lives in Clifton and thats how we found the apple farm.

Rain here today. But temps around 50, so we are going out! Need some fresh air.
Q may not be up for awhile since he may have stayed up to watch the D500. Wonder how they will top the half-time show for next year?
Coffee time!

Good Tuesday morning everyone. 36 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high of 63 again today. But the clouds will be increasing later this afternoon, and rain expected sometime late tonight.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Breakfast is on the warmer bar.
Mookie, your little namesake is a real handful: almost every time we open the door, to come inside, she zooms through the door, and flies straight upstairs. She's in here now, and has been for at least a half hour. She won't come near me, so I can get her, to put her back outside. And with the other 2 sleeping members of this household, I can't make a a whole lot of noise, trying to catch her. Do you have any suggestions on getting an outside kitty back outside, when she darts in through the door????
Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all sometime this afternoon, with our Mexican Fiesta (unless one of you has a different request for today).
Well, I finally get to have a chance at the computer: Walt has been downloading his pictures from his week in Jacksonville, FLA. I would have gone with him and Sarah, but we didn't have anyone reliable to house sit and take care of the kitties. So, next time Sarah gets to travel somewhere, it will be my turn to go with her.
Believe our temp made up into the low 60s today. Very nice, but a bit breezy, which made it seem a wee bit cool. Otherwise, a good, sunshiny day.
Here is the menu for tonight:
1. Burgers and cheeseburgers w/fries, and salad
2. Steaks w/salad and steak fries
3. Meat loaf, mashed taters, gravy, green beans and salad or slaw
And, for DESSERT: Cheesecakes: strawberry, cherry, chocolate, and plain
and peach cobbler w/ice cream
Everyone enjoy your evening, take care and see you all in the a.m.
sunshine here in nw ohio.guessers saying 57 and rain with maybe thunder on wed.time to help matt with homework and get ready for work.

.....Hummm....But Larry, the remaining drivers beyond the first 10 are interested in that $$$ for their position at the finish line too...! Of course the amount works it's way back thru the "pack".
And at Daytona it's sizeable. Don't remember just how much, but perhaps even last place comes in at something like $80,000....!!
The winner will be accepting over a million...!
grampaw pettiboneCould we possibly have some cheesecake later on?
Hey, now - this is a family forum. Oh - you mean the food kind of cheesecake...
Good turnout at the Syracuse train event. Talked to a lot of people and may have convinced a few to come ride - maybe even several to volunteer with us. Many had already ridden on the line, but we piqued their interest in things like our "Bike & Rail" and "River & Rail."
Playing catch-up here at the house, since the weekend was a total loss for doing things here. But it was good for railroad stuff.
Not much into car racing. I figure they could just draw straws and let the top ten race the last ten laps. It would save a lot of wear and tear on their cars, and it's kind of a crapshoot anyhow.
Good Morning Railfans!
Work is starting to slow down again so I have a bit more time to spend time here with friends. It's 26F here today and once again they are talking about snow falling tonight. It's already the 2nd most snowiest February in history here and if we officially get another 2.1" before the month is over we break the 1912 record.
Have a great day everyone, time to make my rounds.
....A very nice sunny morning here in central Indiana...{mid west}....And once again, we see a nasty weather system coming and going to pass well above us on its eastern trek. We've been lucky this season. Seems that's the weather pattern for this Winter, as many times that is the kind of weather that passes over us on it's move on out east in a "normal" Winter.
I too am an interested Nascar fan, but I see no reason to be angry about the delay....That's Mother Nature, not in our control, or Nascar's control. And the first report I've seen earlier today, is prejecting almost the same weather pattern for today in Daytona.
The difference being, they seem to be saying it might be out of there by 5 or 6 this late afternoon....So it's a question when the track might be dry. 2.5 mi. of pavement is quite a bit to dry. Believe they said it takes up to 2 hrs. to do so.
I believe it's their intent to get the race run today, even if it's under the lights. And good lights they do have.
Here....We should be well into the 50's this afternoon as it was 40 earlier this morning. If it continues this "different" weather....we're going to see grass greening....! But we have plenty of time to have snow yet. But the average temps are rising on the graph now as we go forward towards Spring.
Wishing a good start in the new week for all.........
Peace be with you. 47 and cloudy in Carolina at present. The guess is for a high of 57 and some rain.
CW, thanks for breakfast. Could we possibly have some cheesecake later on?
Well, the oscars passed with little notice here. I completely forgolt about them, so you can see what a fan I am. Some of my friends are rabid NASCAR fans and are torqued off because of the delay. One of them decorates her car as a shrine to Dale Jr every race and is fuming. Also, so ist das leben!
Everyone have a great day.

Good Monday morning everyone. We are starting out with a temp of 50 degrees, and a light breeze. Feels nice outside this morning. No rain expected until late tomorrow night, into Wednesday afternoon. Should be a beautiful day around here.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. And breakfast is on the warmer bar.
Everyone have a good morning, and hopefully, will see you all later.
.....Florida, rain. No race until noon Monday. Bummer. Believe that's the first time a cancellation was necessary for the Daytona 500...Meaning at the "new track", starting in '59.
Afternoon all, and HAPPY RACE DAY!
I don't know about you all, but I sure did like that CSX hat that Regan Smith had on during his interview! Good to see railroading back on the public map.
Sunny here in the Hoosier State today. School in the morning. Can't wait until spring break!
Be safe everyone!
Have been home from Church for about 45 minutes. After services, they treated us to dinner (We visited another church home today). Meats were chicken wings and fish (although I didn't see the fish), some kind of wraps, not sure what was in them, salads, baked beans, corn pudding, and for desserts, they had pineapple upside down cake, chess pie, "dump" cake, which had mangoes and nuts, peach cobbler, cookies, and some kind of cake. Really enjoyed the Church service and the comeradary with others. And it looks like you all have done a good job on what I had in the Crock Pots/Slow Cookers. And there is still plenty left for the rest of the afternoon/evening.
Checked our outdoor thermometer after getting home, and it read 57.6 degrees. No wonder it felt so good outside. Hardly any breeze, which is helping it feel so nice and warm. Beautiful day all around.
Everyone take care, and see you all later on.
morning
matt is off to sunday school then to G+G house.Been catching up on chores and taking care of the houseguest. She is suppossed to be going home Monday or Tuesday.Sunshine and no wind are making it for a good day here in nw ohio.Back to work tonight.Cw thanks for the brunch.
....The story here in central Indiana is a cool sunny start. Dry, no snow. Bright sunshine, which we've been receiving an enormous amount this Winter season....a bit different than normal.
Expect it to get into the 40's at least by afternoon.
Being a Nascar fan, I'm paying attention to the forecast of rain over Florida this afternoon....Seems we're going to have interuption from it if the weather people are correct. Just looked at their radar over Florida and it certainly does look "iffy".
Would hope Dianica gets a better chance to try her driving skills today than she's received in the last two competition events there this Speed Weeks events she's driven in. Two wrecks, put her out....and not really her fault. 5' 2"....and 90 lbs....! Wow...in the 3400 lb. car.
Looks like Ford has a bit of a jump on the speed, but Chevy's been to winner circle so many times in this event, I'd not wager too much either way.
Just for a wild guess.....Kurt Bush, now driving a Chevy on an outside chance to take the checkered flag....But who knows. Hope the rain will allow the race to have a good run.
Peace be with you. 36 and clear in Carolina this morning, expected to make it to 59 later today. We had more than an hour's worth of rain Friday which was so heavy we could hardly see the road. Afterwards, the weather people announced that we had a whopping .43" total. I just wonder where their rain gauge is and what is above it!
Thanks for breakfast, and everyone have a safe and warm day.
Good Sunday morning everyone. I'm not sure what our temp is, but supposed to get up to mid to upper 50s this afternoon. Hopefully, we'll see sunshine today, and less wind blowing around.
Justin, I, too, prefer Mozilla Firefox. Walt prefers Chrome. Whenever I've tried to use that, I have nothing but trouble, so I'm sticking with Firefox.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Breakfast is on the warmer bar: bacon, eggs, sausage, blueberry muffins, some doughnuts and pecan rolls.
Have a couple of Crock Pots/Slow Cookers going with our Sunday Dinner: roast, taters, carrots, and we'll have gravy from the roast, dinner rolls and made from scratch buttermilk biscuits. Haven't decided on dessert yet: anyone have any ideas for our dessert today??
Will be heading out to Church in about 3 hours. Everyone have a beautiful morning, and take care.
Greetings everyone! Hope your Saturday went very well!
Currently 26 here in the Hoosier State. Man I hope spring "springs" soon! Saw 2 trains today and got a shot of one of them. Pretty stellar. Also saw a CSX train with BNSF power leading. VERY RARE in these parts!
Just got Mozilla Firefox. If you don't have it I recommend getting it. Really is better than Internet Explorer.
Church in the morning. Thanks for supper CW, your the best!
Be safe all and have a good Sunday tomorrow!
pizzas were great Cw.Time for bed.
Mookie Sorry Tree, Pushed wrong button and sent you our 50 mph winds from the other day. Corrected it and sent you the snow that missed us, instead.... My bad....

The snow didn't amount to much here, but it looks like the Adirondacks got some - which I'm sure the winter sports enthusiasts appreciated.
Need good weather tomorrow so I can drive down to Syracuse for the second model RR event of the weekend.
Got several possible volunteers today - they took applications and sounded promising.
Maybe we'll have some luck in the same vein tomorrow.
