Mookie, you just have to add less sugar in the filling:  that way, the chocolate pie isn't too sweet!  Next to pecan pie, chocolate pie is my favorite.

Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now under way.  Everything is on the warmer bar, ready to be consumed.

Produce went really well this morning:  83 or 84 people showed up!!  We had potatoes, romaine lettuce, apples, onions and milk.  We ran out of food.  None left to give to anyone coming in for their food boxes.

Everyone have a very good afternoon, take care and see you all later.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Hope you all had a good evening.  We're starting out with a temp in the low 30s.  Rain is supposed to be in sometime around 6 p.m

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is on the warmer bar.

Hope everyone has a good morning, take care, and see you all later.  (Not much to comment on this morning.)

I forget the details, but that Battle River bridge is not an insignificant piece of RR architecture

2,775 ft. long and 195 ft. high. It is correctly named the Fabyan Trestle.

It is a poor day when you don't learn something new, and I found a website with lots of new info I never knew before about all of the large RR bridges in Alberta. Since much of Alberta's western boundary with British Columbia is the Continental Divide, which gives flowing water a good downhill start to erode deep valleys, railways have had to create some very impressive structures in order to operate. Here is the link to a very interesting website:

http://www.forthjunction.com/railway-bridges-alberta.htm

41° now which is already 5° warmer than our forecast high. We are also experiencing a 30 mph west wind which is getting snow melting well underway.

S.L. is that a Ledgerwood Car in your photo?

Interesting story about CP over on the Newswire today. If hand to hand combat between shareholders breaks out on 9th Ave. SW in front of CP's HQ, I will post some pictures.Laugh

Very dull day; rain come in a few hours earlier than projected, having been raining for about an hour and a half now.  Nothing going on, neighborhood has been really quiet all day.

For the rest of the afternoon/evening, I've warmed up the leftovers from the past couple, three days.  Don't want anything spoiling or going to waste.

Everyone enjoy your evening, take care, and guess I'll see you in the morning.

Joe - Have you seen a FURX coal train?  We had one go thru here going south - first one I have seen.  I checked all the cars - they had two CN ones, but they were now FURX.  Wow - a $$$ train.  And it was right next to a BNSF coal train heading west.  Lots and lots of $$$$$ right in that small space.

We usually can tell by the cars where the train is going KCPL, Alabama, Georgia, DEEX, but have no clue where all the rentals were headed.

Darren - and an SP shall lead them?

Nice day.  Tomorrow not so.  But weekend ok and next week still nice for end of January.  Wonder if Feb will be rip your head off and snow in the hole month?  Grumpy

Peace be with you. WOW. January and the high was nearly 80! Right now 72 and cloudy with storms expected later tonight. With the passing of several fronts rapidly, these ole jints have been singing the blues over the past few days or so. I wish I was 18 again, but 28 will do....

Good Friday morning everyone.  Hope everyone had a good day yesterday, as I decided to take a day off:  didn't really have much of anything to say/write about.

We currently have a temp of 38 degrees, going for a high in the low to mid 40s.  Rain seems to be over, and moving out of the area.  I'm glad about that, as I go back to the cardiovascular dr. for my regular checkup later on this morning.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is on the warmer bar, including some doughnuts, danish, muffins, bagels, bear claws, bacon, eggs, toast and jelly/jam/preserves.

Everyone have a good day, take care and see you all later.

.....Our day is overcast, and temps seem to be very similar as last night and yesterday....Mid 30's.  No snow.  A mention of some snow flurries possible today, Sat. and Sun.

Hope so, only that.  Headed to pick up granddaughter in the next hour partway town to Indy.

Good morning everyone,

I was out early today for breakfast and grocery shopping. It is now 27°, but the windchill is bringing it down to 14°. You definitely want to stay out of the wind. It is shall we say, crisp.

I checked around and saw that CN got the Fabyan Trestle, where the grain cars fell off the bridge into the Battle River valley, opened back up, but there is a slow order on it for an as yet undetermined time.

Also, I saw CP released their forth quarter 2011 results and got their OR down under 80. I actually didn't think they were going to do it. It is quite impressive when I think back to when my Dad retired a quarter century ago and OR's used to be about 90. The first time I ever saw such a metric mentioned was in a staff magazine, before he retired, and they were talking about trying to get it under 93.

Everyone have a good day.

Well, I made it back from the doctor's office.  He is ordering a test to be done on my right foot.  The little toe is discolored (most of the time red, sometimes deep purple), so he's wanting to see what is going on.  Don't know yet, when I will have that:  they will call me, when they get it set up, probably sometime next week.  Then, I go back to his office in March.

Our Friday Fish Fry is ready and on the warmer bar:  all the regular kinds/types of fish, along with the regular sides and dessert menus.

Don't know what our current temp is, but it is very chilly out, and overcast.  Definitely not a good day for taking a walk.   Everyone have a good afternoon, take care, and see you all later.

Stayed in all day - it wasn't too bad temp-wise, but windy.  Going to be in the 40's all next week.  Groundhog day should be sunny and maybe nice enough to train watch.

CW - did your little toe wander off w/o you and get hurt?  I have broken both little toes - tripped over something each time.  I am barefoot most of the time and both times the little toe was gawking around and not paying attention.  I now wear socks (keeps them home) and look where they are walking.

Fish - yum.  I'm ready.

.....Didn't do well enough to win our ball game tonight....but we'll have another try, I believe next week here in Indy.  Played the Celtics.  Won our game with them a week or so ago.

Went towards our meeting place down near Indy this morning and picked up our granddaughter, Heather for the weekend.  Weather cooperated just fine.

Overcast then, but got up to 40 degrees this afternoon and sunshine.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  37 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Should be somewhere in the mid to upper 40s today?  Haven't really heard the weather report this morning, only saw/heard the current temp.  And haven't seen nary a snow flake. Joe, thank you very much for taking care of breakfast this morning.

Mookie, don't know what is causing the problem with the little toe.  I don't exactly go barefoot, either have my mocs slippers on, or go around in sock feet; so toes are usually kept contained.

Everyone have a very good day, keep dry and warm, take care and see you all this evening.

But Indiana had a half inch of snow overnight. Windy this morning.  Temps are above freezihg though.

Yes, we expect to see quite a bit of 40's this coming week.

Joe - yes.....chocolate chip.

Also - Another almost 100% FURX train - heading south.  Someone is really paying a lot of rental $$$$ to haul coal to them.  There are now 2 of them out there, one WB and one SB.

Curiouser and curiouser.

First day of the biggest model railroad show on the east coast is in the books.  We had a fair amount of interest in the railroad - I'm busy folding some brochures I had printed tonight 'cause we ran out of them.

The show, which is in four buildings, is almost overwhelming.  One thing I like about it is that you don't just have dealers selling products, you have the manufacturers actually present hawking their line.  Some of the stuff is really impressive, like brass etched O scale high tension towers.

Of course, there are plenty of layouts, many of which are quite large.

Friday night several of us visited a local resident's layout for an operating session.  I actually managed to finish all my work, and I had a rather ambitious train to handle.

Wouldn't mind going back, but probably not until next year.

Back to folding brochures.

Ah, Pizza Night. I think I will have a Supreme pizza and a piece of Mincemeat pie with a scoop of ice cream on top.

It is 24° mow and it has been since 1:00 this afternoon. It has been OVERCAST all day today and I mean really dark and dreary. The wind has been up and down but at the last report we now have a windchill of 18°.

Now new RR news today.

I'll go for the Italian Sausage pizza with Peach Cobbler (though nothing beats the peach cobbler cooked in a Dutch oven on a camping trip in the Owens Valley).

It's 57F now, high today was 73 and high yesterday was 83. There's a Red Flag alert for the east county area due to high winds and low humidity.
