Cannonball..............The former photo of the 1950 Chevy Deluxe coupe was a vehicle similar to the one I drove. Ours was a 1949 Chevy 4-door Fleetline and a very similar green. The last I ever saw it was the night I closed the garage doors and next morning, headed for work with Uncle Sam. Dad sold it while I was busy helping Uncle Sam.
The current Avatar photo is one identical to my {deceased}, brother's Chevy as the first car purchased when He was discarged from the Service after WWII. And yes, it's a 1946 Chevy convertible, maroon in color.
The former photo of the '50 Chevy coupe had just 437 miles on it at the time of that photo. The photo was not mine.
Of course.....A photo with the better half setting on the fender has to be a great one. Don't let the heels scratch the paint.

Morn'n Railfans!
Day started out with work calling at 6:30A with issues on our Production systems so cut breakfast short and hopped onto the laptop to find and fix the issues. Not the most enjoyable way to start ones day!
Right now it's 26F and Sunny and trying to remember to pick up a special desert on the way home for a V-Day dinner or you know who will be hurting tonight outside in the dog house!

Afternoon all!
Sitting here in the Condo with the door open to the balcony listening to the waves crash over the beach. Got a cool breeze blowing through the room and life is good. We're looking at a high of 71* today.
Hoping to go out and visit Mobile, Alabama and do some railfanning in Pensacola although it doesn't look so promising. Not many trains go through here anymore...
-Have a swell day all!

Happy V-Day everyone.
Too much excitement in the apartment yesterday. I was watching a program I had recorded when a terrific spark emanated from the back of my TV, coupled with a loud snap. At that exact instant I had been looking away from the TV and you could see the flash light up the whole place. The DVR had been acting funny, so at first I thought it was the problem. But then there was that burning ozone smell. I called the phone company and they changed out the DVR and established that my TV is on its' way out. The TV started after the new DVR was hooked up, but the smell came right back
So instead of a 35" Stereo sound model, I am watching a TV I picked up back about 1985 for use in RV's. You could use a 12V Cigarette lighter plug or regular AC. It has a 4" Colour screen and a single monophonic speaker! And obviously not remote control compatible, so I have to get up and adjust the volume with each change of program. This situation can't and won't last for long.
24° with a few clouds right now. It was very cold last night with a light dusting of snow. Just enough to make driving very difficult, according to the service man.
Very sad RR news yesterday. In two separate accidents, two timezones apart, two teenage boys were killed while listening to music and texting at the same time, by trains. One was in Oshawa, ON, and the other was on CP's Calgary-Edmonton line at Leduc, AB. In actual time the incidents were only a couple of hours apart. This has generated all sorts of media and Social Networking activity, to get the word out to young people to be much more careful. They are even directing the kids to look at the US "Operation Lifesaver" site, which I know nothing about. I hope it has some useful suggestions. Very, very sad.

Wow, Bruce. That sounds like what happened when the ham radio took a lightning strike. Smoke, burning electronics, and flame to the tune of $7000 from the insurance co to replace the damaged stuff. It made the house shake and knocked out two antennas, three rotors, two DSP filters and two transceivers.
Currently, 55 and cloudy in Carolina with rain expected later. We really need that rain, 22" short on the stick so far.
Everyone have a happy Valentine's day and take care.

Our snow is just about all melted, and everything is drying out. The rain, I think, was over, as I came out of the gym, just before 10 this morning. Produce truck came really early (don't believe it was 8:30 yet), and, since we only had 26, 28 people, didn't take us long to get everyone taken care of. And the Bread/Pastry truck came earlier than usual, as well. I was really glad, since I had all of a sudden came up with a very upset stomach, and was really feeling quite lousy. Came home and after about 45minutes, went back to bed, and slept for a little over an hour.
Our menu for the rest of today:
1. Vegetable beef soup w/your choice of cornbread or crackers
2. Beef stew w/cornbread
Everyone enjoy your afternoon/evening, take care and see you all later.
P>S> Justin, sounds like you and family are really enjoying your time away from the cold of Indiana. You all take care, and have a great time.
Tom, getting a Amateur Radio license back when I was in my twenties is one thing I regret not doing. It seemed I either had time and no money, or money and no time. I worked with one fellow, VE6 AJM, and knew another from a church group, VE6 JC, back in the '70's and '80's. How hard would it be to see if you ever made contact with those fellows. I would be curious to know.
afternoon
well matt did have school today.our snow is melting already. At least they plowed the roads so they won't be ice rinks in the morning.Houseguest is here and being spoiled already.she likes to lapsit alot.cw thanks for supper.time to get ready for work.

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
grampaw pettiboneThat sounds like what happened when the ham radio took a lightning strike.
Reminds me of the morning at Chanute AFB that a storm rolled through before dawn. I had my CB antenna installed on a pole outside my barracks room. There was one of those "flash/boom" strikes that you know was really close, and I slowly opened my eyes, fully expecting to see a smoking pile of ashes where the CB radio used to sit.
In actuality, nothing happened to it. In fact, I still have that radio, although I haven't used it in years.
Weather-wise - very mild. A few radar echos floating around the area, but none of them have resulted in any precipitation here, yet.
The big OSHA Refresher Training Day that I've been planning for this coming Sunday is looking good. All of the instructors are ready to go, and I've got nearly 50 people confirmed to attend.

Good Morning Railfans!
It's 19F and Partly Cloudy right now but should turn out to be a nice day. Coffee to go please...
Goooooood morning everyone!
About 40* here in Pensacola. Looking for a high of 71* later with slight cloudiness.
Caught my first "new" CSX painted locomotive. Had a good ol' GEVo with the new "How Tomorrow Moves" logo.
Good looking locomotives indeed!
Have a swell day alll!

A little trivia on the power of lightning strikes.
About 1940, back at my home in Pennsylvania, we had a floor model radio, typical of the era....and Dad had a copper wire antenna installed for it, and it was about 100' in length.
He also had a grounding pipe driven down into the ground next to the house near where the antenna came into the house.
During an electrical storm....A terrible crash and lightning at the same time...{extremely loud, and massive flash}, occured, and the end result was: The tuning / vol. knobs flew off the radio a distance of about 28 ft. and slammed into the wall. I believe the power was interupted at the same time to the house. Needless to say, that was the end of the radio. And....we never did find any little bit of that copper wire am antenna outside the home.
No fire occured. No other damage. But that probably was the worse bang / crash sound I ever have heard.
I remember we had a Shepard type dog at the time, and it was so badly afraid of storms after that. No one was hurt, and nothing else in the home was damaged.
At that time, the AT&T cable that ran across the nation was located just perhaps 50' to the south of the home, and it was thought the lightning might have hit and run along that cable close to the home, but also got the copper wire antenna, and {Philco} radio.
Quentin ; oh the time of GM cars was great then . Ms. Shore sure told us about them ,to mention of the ladys. My 46 Chevy coupe is gone. However , I still have my 1955 bride. We also had a 49 Chev2 door and a 53 4dr, next was a 55 98 Holiday Olds. This was the last car owned for several yrs. Then began a string of trucks IHC and finally a few Red Oval 379s . Oh~~ some trucks were shipped by trains to St. Louis or Kansas City to be picked up.

P.S. I wonder where the years went.
Y6bs evergreen in my mind
guessers calling for rain.City wants a new message board for the viaduct until the construction is complete.Have a few ideas what the sign should say.Cw thanks for supper.work is still very busy so I must go.

Cannonball....I'll send you a nice pic of a 53 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop....This is just like the one I purchased when I came home after Uncle Sam was finished with me. Also, a special {non production}, vehicle with Diana in it....
Quentin - you may have seen the picture of lightning striking a tree next to a farmhouse. One tiny finger from the bolt is extending from the main bolt over to the TV antenna. According to the caption (I think it was in LIFE magazine), the TV was toast.
Very close call early this morning. We (FD) were dispatched for a car fire near a building, as called in by a passerby (2AM). By the time we arrived with the apparatus, the owner and one of our assistant chiefs had dragged the truck away from the house, but not before some siding was scorched and a smoke trail was left on the eaves.
Had the passerby not been passing by, we'd have been dealing with a roaring house fire in that very old (and well seasoned) house.
....I don't recall seeing that photo Larry, but I'm aware that lightning can behave in very strange ways. Sometimes some photographer gets to show us...how strange.
Good afternoon/evening everyone. This is the first time I've been in today, since when I tried to get in the door this morning, received a message that everything was down, due to maintenance. So, I went ahead and did the Suzy Homemaker routine of getting caught up on laundry.
For your eating enjoyment tonight:
1. Pork chop abracadbra w/onion, corn, broccoli w/butter sauce, cauliflower w/butter cheese sauce, and made from scratch buttermilk biscuits.
2. Pinto beans, fried taters and baked cornbread.
Everyone have a very good evening, and see you all tomorrow.
Bruce, I did a log search on those calls and had no hits
Good Thursday morning everyone. 46 degrees here in Louisville, KY this morning, going for a high in the mid 50s later this afternoon. Rain should be ending here a little bit later this morning, and everything drying out.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Breakfast is on the warmer bar.
Hope everyone has a good morning, take care and see you all later.
Good morning and peace be with you. 48 and cloudy in Carolina. The high is expected to top out at 67 with rain later and maybe more tonight. We shall see. We are 22" below normal and really need the stuff. Most of the area is under a red flag posting and even a little bit would help.
Paula, thanks for breakfast.
I have a medical situation that requires a dr visit, and please wish me well in getting worked in this afternoon.
All for now. Everyone take care and have a great day.
Good Morning Modelers!
It's 17F and Sunny heading for 40F and they say it should be a nice weekend; to bad I have to work this weekend.
grampaw pettibone Bruce, I did a log search on those calls and had no hits
Tom, thanks for taking a look at that, I appreciate it. I hope your medical procedure goes well.
Joe, I liked the note about the message board on the viaduct. We have a new bridge across the Bow River here, that is creating all kinds of controversy. If a message board was put up at that site, and the message content was left to the readers of one of Calgary's newspapers, they would have to cover the sign as an affront to public decency!
Was out yesterday and bought a new TV. Trying to watch much TV on one with a 4" screen is not easy. The funny thing is, that with it connected to the digital set top box, I believe it is showing the clearest picture it ever did.
They still haven't shown the temp for 9:00 AM but at 8:00 this morning it was 9°. There are a few clouds and it is supposed to make it to 37° by this afternoon.
No local RR news.
Darren - they really need to put markings on that rail car.....
She who has no signature! cinscocom-tmw
Been out for my weekly walk. Walk slowly for about 2 hours, so my knee doesn't give out on me. Actually, if the weather cooperates, I try to walk like that a couple of times a week. Sometimes, its only once a week.
Tom, I hope everything goes all right for you, at the doctor's. It is no fun, whatsoever, to be feeling under the weather.
Darren, where did you find the camel?? Nice picture.
For the rest of the day, here's what we have on the warmer bar:
1. Sloppy Joes w/salad and fries
2. Italian spaghetti w/salad and Italian bread, or, if you prefer, garlic Texas toast
3. Pinto beans w/baked cornbread and fried taters or fries
Everyone have a good evening, take care, and see you all later.
During a Railfanning road trip (Jul 31, 10) we were heading south on a back-road from Sedalia, CO towards Palmer Lake, CO when we spotted TWO (2) strange cows out in a field next to the road and when we got close enough to see they were Camels I had to stop and take a few shots. Not something one thinks you would ever see in Colorado (outside a zoo) yet there they were...
Out playing with a neighboring fire department's aerial tower ladder tonight. I spent my time as "safety" at the base of the ladder, but a trip up in the bucket can be a real "E Ticket" ride...
Rained all day. Still raining. Sheesh.
good friday morning
matt is on time and on the bus.chores and a nap.maybe if the guessers are right we can see some sunshine and trains this afternoon.houseguest is comfortable on mammas lap.Cw thanks for breakfast.
joe
Good Friday morning everyone. Joe and et al, breakfast is now on the warmer bar (sorry I slept in a couple of hours this morning). Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, joining the doughnuts, danish, muffins, bagels and bear claws, along with bacon, eggs and toast on the warmer bar.
Didn't do much last night, just worked a couple of Seek & Find puzzles, and reading one of the books that Walt got me for Christmas. Have almost read all the books he gave me. Love to read!!
Everyone have a good morning, take care, and see you all later.
Joe - it is good that guests don't need a guest room and can sleep anywhere. Probably bring their own food, too?
Got to see some coal trains yesterday. Weather cooperated and actually had a car window down. Got a good dose of vitamin D, too.
CW - reading J A Jance right now. She is a pretty good read.
Tree - our fire station across the intersection makes a good alarm clock. Absolutely every day, they "go off" between 7 and 8 am. One of the busiest ones in the city, and the engine and paramedics have to pull out onto a very busy street and into a very busy intersection. They make it look easy - even the big truck.
Must find some coffee - for real! But it is downstairs and I am upstairs and sometimes that seems like several blocks away! It is one of those mornings.
