We have had several cold days--lows in the upper twenties and highs in the high forties, with no precipitation. Our maple tree has dropped perhaps a quarter of its leaves (and the pussywillows, which usually have lost all their leaves by now, are still holding on to their leaves. Today, I thought I should get out and mulch such leaves as were on the ground before the wet weather that is coming in tomorrow night. The last time I used the lawnmoer was a year ago, when I mulched the leaves (we use a landscaping service for grass cutting), and I was not surprised when the mower would not start this morning, despite having what looked like enough fuel in the tank. After lunch, I filled the tank, took one pull on the rope--and the mower sprang into life. I also made sure, this afternoon, that the snow thrower would start (I hope I can get all the leaves mulched before I need to use it, since one of the tools has to live behind the other in the tool shed). The gas preservative that I use works; all of the gas I have for these two is going on a year old, if not older.

Several of the ski resorts opened today, and they were well patronized by local people.

5 days later than the first we witnessed last season.

Since I've spent the afternoon at Walmart, getting computer ink and several other items we needed here at home, here is our menu for tonight:

1.  Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad

2.  Some of our Chinese Dinner selections:  fried rice (beef, pork, chicken, special), beef broccoli, chop suey, chow mein,, etc.

Temp is currently somewhere in the low to mid 40s, and supposed to get down to 31 by tomorrow morning, here in the city limits; outlying areas will see mid to upper 20s for lows in the morning.

Everyone have a good evening, keep warm, take care and see you all tomorrow.

+1

I have been feeling like that since Monday. I can't sleep when I lie down, and I can't stay awake when I am up. At times even the proverbial walking and chewing gum trick is difficult.

I haven't checked my usual news sources since the weekend.

I did notice the passing of Bil Keane. I was never a regular reader of "The Family Circus", it was in Calgary's other newspaper, but at times he could really hit one out of the park.

In case I don't get here tomorrow, I will post a link I have put on the Lounge in the past, telling the story of Canadian Pacific's involvement in war efforts through out its' history, in honour of Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the US. On the top right of the page see the PDF link for Canadian Pacific and War. An excellent read.

Peace be with you. 64 and cloudy, expecting rain and possibly thunder later. Still having computer problems, and will be happy to see them worked out.

More later

Partly sunny for us today....Frost on the grass and roofs this morning.  Noted 37 on the instrument.

Just a breeze today, but we've had 2 days of brisk winds....at least gusting to 45 mph, and...that swirled leaves everyplace.

So...still hoping I can get to mulching again on Saturday....and hopefully that will be it.

Nasty winds really cleared leaves off trees.

Terrible wind up in Alaska.....and with the cold, wow....Glad I'm not near that place.

I think that anyone who's read "The Family Circus" has had at least one case of "how'd he know that happened in my family?"

Yesterday's rain finally arrived later yesterday evening, then promptly disappeared.  Colder today, but dry, so I can continue working on the roof...

cw thanks for breakfast.guessers not sure what is coming today but it is colder. My dads favorite part of the family circus cartoon was the "not me" ghost.(who broke this? who did what?) The other day the maw derailed at the station restaurant here in town.it took off their awning. No one was hurt.Just glad I wasn't having lunch at a table out back.off to bed.

Besides "Not Me",  "Ida No" was one of my favorite Family Circus "sayings". We have Several "Clippings" of them from the paper on our fridge.

One of my all time favorites is where their neighborhood has had a power outage; and Dolly says to Billy: "Looks like the house ran out of batteries". Another, is where dad is showing(?) Billy some tools and he shows a woodworking plane; Billy says: "Dad, quit kidding, how can it be a plane if it doesn't have any wings".

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Very chilly 40 degrees here in Louisville  this morning, with a wind chill in the low 30s.  Temps should drop to about 36, 37 this morning, before "climbing" back to a high in the mid 40s?

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go.  Breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, grits, oatmeal, toast, and a selection of fresh fruits is on the warmer/serving station.

Read some sad news on the homepage this morning:  Bil Keane, who started the Family Circus cartoon, as passed away, at the age of 89.  Sure do hope that Jeff Keane, who has been doing the cartoon for several years, will continue it.  I'd sure hate to see that cartoon disappear by the wayside.  R.I.P. Mr. Keane.

The wind is really picking up here.  Quentin, guess the gusts are about what you said they are in your area.

Here is our menu for the rest of the day:

1.  Pork roast with saurkraut and mashed taters

2.  Beef roast w/carrots & potatoes

3.  Beef tips & noodles

Veggies for today, other than what is already listed above:

1.  Green beans w/shelled beans

2.  Creamed corn

3.  Cornbread

4.  Succotash (lima beans w/corn)

Desserts:

1.  Coconut cream pie

2.  Lemon meringue pie

3.  Chocolate brownies

4.  Lemon icebox cake

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, keep safe, don't let the gusty winds blow you away, and I'll see you all later on.

...."Warm", and rain this morning.  But we're to have some cooler stuff moving in by this afternoon.  25 / 30 mph winds, gusting today.  Once again moving leaves around.

Note Saturday to be pretty nice in our area.  So, perhaps we get another shot at leaf cleanup.

Several stops to make in town today.  One most likely, will be lunch.

Our fair city has had a change of Mayor via yesterday's voting....And a Party change.

Must check paper to see how our little town {Yorktown}, we're attached to made out in the election.  Council members, etc....

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Our current temp is 60 degrees.  It has dropped a couple degrees, as when I awoke an hour ago, it was 62 degrees outside.  Have had some rain overnight, but it is now heading east.  Winds are beginning to pick up a little bit; and the temps will continue to slowly drop throughout the day, getting down into the mid 30s for overnight/Thursday morning.  Tomorrow night's low is to be right at 32 degrees.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

Haven't looked at the paper yet, to see the results from our voting yesterday, but according to what I saw on the news crawler this morning, think we still have our current governor, going to be in office another 4 years.

Everyone have a good morning, if your temps are to be dropping today, keep warm, take care, and I'll see you all later.

...Another really nice seasonal day...but warmer than normal.  Didn't see just what was the high, but it was in the 70 area.

Lunch at Olve Garden.  Nap, then out with the tractor / mower and did another mow / mulch leaves....Got the place looking real nice again.  Neighbors trees have lost many of their leaves, so don't expect much more from them....But it will be some.

Was able to make the yard nice and green again.  Grass short, leaves blow on by easier too.  My trees are all evergreen.

Tomorrow afternoon, our temp is to fall about 10 degrees, and good chance of some rain.  Looks like that nasty stuff we've seen on the radar will stay south and west of us for the most part.

The closest I got to a train today, was when we crossed the Frankfort line, looking east...a train headlight about 2 mi. east of us on a nice tangent stretch of track.  In fact, that line is tangent all the way to Alexandria from here...A distance roughly 15 miles.

Our voting place was very inactive when we visited about noon today. In and out in just a few minutes....Electronic machines.

Took care of produce and the bread/pastry trucks this morning, came home, tried to take a little nap, but it didn't work.  So got up, and Walt, Sarah and I went to cast our votes.  We voted for govenor/lt. gov., sec. of state, agrilculture commisioner, and I forgot what the other one was.

Well, while I was over at Produce this morning, my doctor's office called.  Called them back, when I  got home.  I will NOT be in, probably at all, next Tuesday.  Have to be at the office at 7:30 next Tuesday morning, and will probably be there most of the day, for the CT scan and a Field Vision Test.

I have our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta ready, and it is on the warmer/serving station:  Burritos, tacos, Spanish rice, enchaladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chimichangas, etc.

Believe our temp is currently about 73 degrees; but we have a good breeze blowing.  At least, so far, it is a semi warm breeze.  Rain is supposed to be in sometime later tonight, and through most of the day tomorrow.  Our high tomorrow, whatever it is projected, will be in the morning, with the temps dropping throughout the day.

Everyone have a good evening, and take care.

Misting a bit here, unfortunately, because I have lots to do outside.  Just discovered a missing shingle that's letting light into the attic - never a good thing.  I'll be putting a steel roof on that part of the house, but not today.  It'll get fixed shortely.

Rain the next couple of days.

Voted today, but with the exception of one race, it was all academic - everyone else was running unopposed.  The only "race" was for district judge, and that was pick four out of seven...

Back to work.

Happy Birthday, Mutt!

Oklahoma is sending us some really interesting  weather for your day.  Yesterday, we had "rain by 6 pm" at 1 pm.  Rained really steady thru about 2 am.  Landlord got all our leaves up and in garbage before rain.  Now we have all of their family members back on our guest parking space, lawn and sidewalk.  Grumpy

AND.... 1-3 inches of snow tonite after 7 pm.  This means we will either get it this afternoon, not at all or 6-12 by tomorrow.  You just have to know how to interpret the weather-speak around here.  My bet is we will get little or nothing by tomorrow, but east of us is going to have quite a mess.  All water, people.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  53 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Supposed to make it up to about 74 degrees today.  At least around our area, no one should have any weather-related problems to prevent them from casting their vote today.

I want to wish a Very Happy 61st Birthday to my darling husband of 24 1/2 years:  Walt, hope you have a great day today; may you have many, many happy returns today.  Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go.   And breakfast is ready and on the warmer/serving station.

On a sad note, I did notice on the the computer's homepage, that Smokin' Joe has lost his battle with liver cancer.   R.I.P. Mr. Frazier.

I don't know how many on here are Joe Frazier fans, but I saw an article on the computer homepage, where he is fighting liver cancer.  Discovered it about 3, 4 weeks or so ago.  The article said he is under Hospice Care.

CW, I am glad you mentioned this, I too was a fan of Smokin' Joe. The news report I read about it had a sentence that said, Joe Frazier was the first man to ever defeat Muhammad Ali. That is still an amazing thing to read, even forty years later. I was very sad to hear about his illness.

34° now, but there is a west 16 mph wind, which is giving us a windchill temp of 23° We are looking for our next snowfall toward the weekend.

There has already been enough snow in the mountains that the Lake Louise ski hill opened last weekend. I fear this is going to be an interesting winter for railroading in the mountains. There was nowhere close to a total melt of last year's snowpack. When you have even an average year of new snowfall, on top of that base of old snow, you create a very unstable situation. My Dad had said various times that some of the worst avalanches have occurred under those conditions.

The problem comes about because although the railway has over a century of avalanche data, these unusual conditions create slides in places that don't normally have them. And if you don't know where they will occur, you can't build defenses against them. They are both unexpected and often severe. There is just no way to know what will happen.

As of earlier today I hadn't seen any new local railway news.

And even though there are no elections in Alberta at the moment I always support what Locomutt said, if you don't vote don't gripe.

Peace be with you. 47 and clear in Carolina at present . Yeah Johnny, the weather was against our thunderchickens Saturday. They have had a ruff time this year, what with injuries and personnel issues.

My computer died big time last week and ergo, I have a new old Dell that I am getting used to. It has Windows 7and 3 gig of RAM. It also has a defective keyboard that has to be swapped out.  I still don't have email yet,  Things will work out if I don't put a bullet in  it first

That said, everyone have a great day and stay safe

Tom, Hope you don't have to shoot your computer, but if you do and need any ammo, I think we might have several extra .40cal and .45cal cartridges around here.(pistol)

Not sure if all states have Election Day tomorrow;  here in Ky. we're getting to vote for a new Governor, amongst several other state offices. If you don't vote, don't gripe!
