Whew, what a long day I've had.  Think I've just about got the side dishes ready for tomorrow.  When Sarah's turkey is just about through roasting, I'll put on the green beans w/shelled beans on, and either make some mashed taters or do creamed/stewed potatoes (where you boil the potatoes, and thicken the liquid w/corn starch).  Then, after everything is ready, I'll pop the crescent rolls into the oven.  Spent from 10:00 a.m. until 5:15 in the kitchen.  Now, I need to head back into the kitchen, and start washing up my dishes/pans/utensils  that I've messed up this afternoon.

For supper tonight:  Grilled cheese sandwiches and vegetable soup w/salad.

For dessert:  homemade pound cake w/sauce, or Dutch apple pie w/ice cream.

Everyone have a good evening and take care.  See you all in the morning.

We don't get a lot of hail of a size that will make that much noise (fortunately).

I'm not sure you'd be able to pick my house out of the cacaphony anyhow, almost all of the houses around me have steel roofs as well.

Of somewhat greater concern is the fact that the nice, shiny surface sheds snow pretty well, usually in the form of an "avalanche," and without warning.  I don't spend a lot of time under the eaves in the winter, but it's a consideration.

.....Local weather for us right before the holiday begins, seems to be about seasonable.  Dry and overcast, but bright.  44 degrees.

Tomorrow is to be quite a bit warmer and full sunshine.

Such weather makes holiday time so much more pleasant.  Friday is to be real nice too.  Have a few outdoor items we'll take care of then.

"Mittens" to install on outside faucets for the season.  One area of spouting, must have some "whatever" in it as yesterday we noted it was spilling out over it in this small area.  Single story home, so no great deal to handle.

Wish everyone safe traveling out on the typicially busiest highway travel time of the year.  Many years ago we traveled our 400 mi. on this day back to Pennsylvania, but don't do that currently.

Actually left here early one Thanksgiving morning, and arrived {400 mi.} later at my home for Thanksgiving dinner, about 1 pm.  Wouldn't attempt to do that now.  '62 Impala SS did the task that morning.

Weather can be "iffy" back home this time of the year, but on that occasion, we had good traveling weather.  Dry and sunshine.

Turkey this time will be at Ryan's with our family about 10 mi. from here...Anderson.

Rain (some freezing) overnight, followed by snow this AM.  Hopefully it'll all melt later - I've got shopping to do.

Police, and some fire, are busy with minor accidents.  I heard our town highway crews out earlier, but apparently this first taste of winter for some folks came with the usual forgetting to slow down...

Aside from a couple of pieces of ridgecap, I got the steel roof on the garage.  It's so nice not ot have water coming in at places it isn't supposed to...  If the temps do what's forecast, I'll probably be able to finish up after the holiday weekend.

Peace be with you. 68 and light rain in Carolina, supposed to get to 74 and partly cloudy later. Saturday, the Thunderchickens take on Clemson and are preparing to whomp them good. This is the game that decides a successful season, no matter how the rest of the year went.

The wife is visiting her Sister for thanksgiving, so the girls and I will feast out of a can. Think of me whilst ye chow down on turkey and dressing! Oh well, I can be thankful without a feast, so it is really immaterial!

The girls got to arguing politics at 0400 and I got a bad scratch on my arm when I got between them. Laci will start a fight at anytime over anything, even without provocation.

Everyone have a great day and turkey day too. Stay warm and safe

Good Wednesday morning.  Well, we had a little bit of excitement this morning, just after 5 a.m.:  lights went out!  According to local power company, some wires across the street were sagging, due to the winds (they weren't that strong).  Our power was restored about 25 minutes ago.  So much fun going around resetting all the clocks.  Not!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is ready and on the warmer/serving bar.

I will be spending the day in the kitchen, getting most of the side dishes ready for tomorrow, and keeping an eye out next door.

Everyone have a good day, take care, and see you all later.

 Modelcar:

Rain to stay with us most of the day.  But tomorrow just cloudy, and Thanksgiving, Sunshine....and Black Friday, partly cloudy, mild.

45 now.

Many people believe that Hell is full of fire and brimstone.  I am not going to debate whether Hell exists or not (although I compare certain places on the RR to it), but if there is a Hell, I think it may be 40 degrees and raining all the time.  And dark.. don't forget dark.

bet you can't guess what the weather was here last night! Umbrella Laugh

.......And maybe -10 degrees, and snowing with 40 mph wind, might be a bit worse.....Ok, add dark to it too.

Ahem.  Thanksgiving.  Family will be scattered, so we will go grocery shopping.  That's our day and we don't vary the routine - (if we do, we will forget to go to the store), then ham sandwiches and paper plates.  I love it.

Oh, and did I mention - 65 degrees and sunny for the day?  I think I will go spread my blanket trackside and enjoy.  Maybe take our sandwiches with us!

I just realized I should get in here and wish our American readers Happy Thanksgiving before it is too late to catch those in the eastern time zones.

We celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada on the second Monday in October, so folks around here are no doubt glad they don't have to travel tonight or tomorrow. There is a weather warning out for 50-60 mph winds with blowing snow for the whole area between Calgary and the US border. We are along the northern edge of the area affected so they are not saying what to expect here. Some lesser level of unpleasantness, no doubt. 46° now.

There was a 14 car derailment Sunday at Mortlach, SK on CP's mainline. It was a loaded grain train from the Soo Line coming up through Canada on its' way to the US west coast. Portal, ND-Moose Jaw, SK-Dunmore, AB-Lethbridge, AB-Eastport ID. Here is a report from The Moose Jaw Times Herald. It is kind of funny, it makes it sound like the train crew has to clean up their own wreck.Big Smile

Produce went well this morning, even with the rain pouring down.  We only had 54 people, but they were all well behaved.  On the Produce truck this morning:  cabbage, onions, potatoes, Romaine lettuce, strawberries and 1/2 size bottles of lemonade.

Walt and I are getting ready to leave in a couple of hours, to go to our neighbor's visitation.  Like I said in an earlier post, don't think we'll be going to the funeral tomorrow.  We'll just stay home, and keep an eye out on her house and property, watching to make sure there are no intruders.  That's what we did last year, when Aunt Sarah passed away.

Everyone have  a good evening and take care.  Anyone leaving to go out of town for the holiday, please be careful and take care, keeping you and yours safe and sound.

UmbrellaIt's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring; went to bed, bumped his head, couldn't get up in the morning.Umbrella  Good Tuesday morning everyone.  54 degrees and yes, it is raining, raining, raining this morning.  We may have some severe weather and storms later on this afternoon, to deal with, too.

Coffee and juices are freshly made and ready to go.  Along with our other morning beverages, including hot water for hot tea.  Breakfast of toast, oatmeal, bacon, sausage and eggs are ready and on the warmer/serving bar.

OK, finally heard back from my doctor last night.  The word is, I have had a stroke, although it was a mini stroke (not a major stroke, like the optomertist (sp?) said).  Dr. told me to keep taking my Plavix and my bp medicine, keep my bp down.  He wanted me to go on aspirin, and I had to remind him, that I can't take aspirin  due to being allergic to it.  So, I guess this little Indian cant get upset and go on the warpath anymore.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Anyhoo, everyone have  a good morning, stay dry, and I'll see you all later, after I get through with Tuesday Produce.

Joe, thank you for refreshing my memory on his name!  Also, very sad to hear about Matt's schoolmate.  Please give him my sympathy.  It's always sad to lose someone, and even more so around holidays.  Our next door neighbor passed away Friday.  Her visitation is tomorrow evening, and funeral Wednesday morning.  We are going to the visitation, but I doubt we'll be able to make the funeral.

Tonight's menu:

1.  Leftovers from Sunday Dinner

2.  Tomato soup w/grilled cheese sandwiches and garden salad

We currently have 57 degrees and cloudy skies.  Rain seems to be out for now, at least until the wee hours of the morning.  Then, we may see some heavy downpours around 9 a.m. tomorrow, before the rain clears out around mid day Wednesday.  We did have a little bit of fog here in the city this morning.   Everyone have a good evening and take care.

Ohhh, Ahhhh, what a beautiful job on the engine, Larry!  I know you came home dog tired last night.  And good Monday morning to everyone.  We're starting out with a temp of 57 degrees, with patchy fog and some leftover rain.  Still  have more rain showers/storms for later in the day.  Possibly some severe weather tomorrow.

Coffee, OJ and other juices and morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready also and on the warmer/serving bar.

We watched another movie last night:  the newer version of The Stepford Wives with Nicole Kidman and Broderick , dang it, can't remember his last name:  the one who played Ferris Beuler.  Anyway, prefer this version over the original.  Didn't care too much for that one, but this one was pretty good, and had me chuckling a few times.

Hope you all have a good morning, and take care whatever you'll be doing this morning, and see you all later.

Smile tree, would it be possible to post a photo of the train when it is all lit up ??  This must be quite a job for anyone to do, but the end result will be good to see.

                                             Cannonball

I'll have to work on a picture of the interior of our Polar train cars.

In the meantime, here's a picture of the locomotive we decorated for this coming weekend's Christmas and Santa Trains (same trainset, different trips):

Happened to meet a FEMA disaster worker this weekend.  She's been working a lot of disasters (she was in Joplin), and is currently (still) working the flooding that occured in NYS as a result of Irene and the subsequent storm.  We invited her to join us on the Polar Express last night, so she could see what we do (and get out of her hotel room for a while).  She very much enjoyed the trip and seeing how we pull it off.

And speaking of PE - we had about the biggest crowd last night that I've dealt with since I started running - hardly an empty seat on the train!  Lots of happy kids and their parents.

I'm home now, and I'm beat.  Time for bed.

Mookie

Off to wade thru the Sunday ads and find the funnies for breakfast.

That's an odd diet; I prefer shredded wheat (the kind without sugar) and a few slices of peaches, with semi-skimmed (2%) milk.Smile

We did get about two inches of snow Friday night; I let the sun clear it off my driveway Saturday. We were promised a low of about 22 this morning; it was more like 32 when we left for church.

Yes, Tom, I thought those cadets from Charleston were no real match for the Thunderchickens. Did you watch the Vanderbilt-Tennessee game, with its surprise ending?

Still getting light rain here in Louisville.  Mookie, glad to know the chickens made it to your house safely.  Hopefully, they'll make it the rest of the way safely, as well.

Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Burgers and cheeseburgers w/fries and garden salad

2.  Beef Pasta w/garden salad, your choice of brussel sprouts or peas & corn

Dessert:

1.  Chocolate cake w/white icing

2.  Apple cake w/cream cheese frosting

Hope everyone can stay dry this afternoon. Think I'm staying inside, and just relaxing.  Should make a trip to the library and pick up a couple of reserved books that are in, but think I'll just get out in the morning and make that trip.  You all take care, have a good afternoon, and enjoy whatever activities you are partaking this afternoon.
