CW, I think I will have some of your beef stew.
Since Sunday, we have had our cleanup after the big wind, a blizzard warning, and a snow storm that didn't live up to its' warning status.
There are links on Youtube of the difficulty a Lufthansa airplane had trying to land in the windstorm, as well as video of semi's being blown off the road. I won't post the links because some of the OTR truckers here might find then to be, as they say "program contains images that might be upsetting to some viewers".
There was one funny thing though. The Leader of one of the opposition parties in the Alberta Legislature was in her home in High River when two large trees came down at almost the same time, blocking both her front and back doors. When I heard this news, I thought having a politician pinned inside their home is a bad thing?
Considering the weather we have had the last four days it is fortunate that there is no local RR news today.

Believe we are up to 40 degrees, and the sun is shining, although it isn't very warm outside. Think we're supposed to get another couple of degrees warmer for today.
Here is the menu for the rest of the day:
1. Vegetable soup
2. Mix of northern & pinto beans w/ham
3. Beef stew
All three served with cornbread.
Dessert: Peach cobbler, Chocolate cake w/white frosting, Yellow cake w/chocolate frosting
Glad our metro area did not receive any flurries yesterday/overnight. That bad, 4-letter word stayed north of the Ohio River. I'll handle cold temperatures over getting snow or ice anytime I can.
Mookie must still be trackside. Haven't seen her in here yet today.
Everyone have a good afternoon, take care and see you all later.
Beef stew with corn bread , hot coffee and warm peach cobbler for dessert. ? a good meal for switchmen who are cold~~ wet~~ and hungry~~ all at the same time.

Partly cloudy this morning, which indicates, some sunshine. To be more sunshine as the day unfolds. 33 earlier this morning. Don't really know what temp is forecast for this afternoon.
But our inch and a half of snow doesn't have much of a chance by this afternoon.....and that will be good riddance. Sunshine forecast for tomorrow too.

Back in Denver, gotta deal with 10 days of what evolved in the office.
Snow due tonight in Denver after dark, 8-10" by Thursday AM.

Peace be with you. 35 and overcast in Carolina right now. Only supposed to get up to the mid 50s today and down to 31 tonight. I do not envy you guys your snow, but later on, would like a little.
My joints are shouting that cold weather is here. I used to smile when the auld folk would say that they could forecast the weather with their knees or whatever, but it is literally true to a certain degree.
Thanks for breakfast. Everyone take care and stay warm

Good Wednesday morning everyone. 35 degrees here in Louisville, and windy, still. Only been up about 40 minutes, so running a tad bit behind this morning. Coffee is on, and just about ready, and have bacon & sausage frying, getting ready to scramble some eggs, pop the toast in the toaster, and putting biscuits in the oven. Literally "running around like a chicken with its head cut off" this a.m.
Our high today is to only be in the mid 40s, probably around 44 degrees. Mookie, I sure don't like all this rain we've been getting, but at least it hasn't been s n o w. Definitely not ready for snow and ice and bitter cold temps. But I guess it is time to face facts: winter is coming, whether we like it or not., right?
What would you all like to eat today? Going to take requests today. Everyone take care, have a good morning, and see you all later.
MookieAnd Tree is literally hiding - in the green.
Yep - it's been mostly miserable all day, and it looks like that rain is going to 'train' right over us for a while. At least it's reasonably warm (41F as I write this) which rules out snow for the moment.
One thing that makes weather "miserable" to me is cold (41F is still cold), wet, and windy, and right now we've got all three. Fortunately I've got more than enough to keep me busy inside.
Headed for the railroad on Friday for another round of Polar Express trips.

The official weather forecast for the diner is....blah! Everything east of Illinois is hiding. Can't find big chunks of the Ohio Valley. And Tree is literally hiding - in the green.
Future - well, I talked the Driver into going out for a little while tomorrow. They are saying 50's, but then it goes right straight down from there. 30's and maybe moisture thru next Monday. So.... if you are enjoying all your miserable weather right now - good news! There will be more to come from the true midwest. (not too sure just where you got your mess now, but suspect it might be from down Texas way. )
Seasonal greetings, I guess.....

....It is not very nice outside now. The rain and temp have changed. Down from about 40 degrees and rain over to very wet snow, and now 34 degrees.
Sounds like 2 to 3" of snow here possible, but just 60 mi. northwest of us they are talking about up to 8" of the stuff. The beauty of tomorrow will be it's to be full of sunshine. And the ground probably is really not cold enought to allow the snow to survive very long.
But, right now it's nasty. Went out for lunch, and a long stop at Meijer's, and that much time allowed it to be raining, and then almost a white out {but very wet}, as we came back home. No sand bags in the back of the little truck yet, but they certainly are available in the garage. Probably about time to put them in for the season. Did put my fur hat in and ice brush / scraper that also go in this time of the year for the season duration. Keep a coat there, this season too.
Do have the automobile that is AWD, but prefer to keep it there {in the garage}, this kind of weather.
Burr....Hate to think of all this just beginning.
Peace be with you. Your rain got to us yesterday with quite a downpour, but almost nothing officially. Right now, 52 and overcast. It is supposedly cooling down to freezing at night over the next few days.
I have been spending some time on the wireless lately. Contacts have ranged from Swaziland in Africa to Niue in the So Pacific It helps keep my mind occupied, I guess. Been at it for 47 years now and eventually will do it right.
Everyone stay warm and safe
afternoon
retrieved the trash can before it floated down to the creek.the rain is changing to snow now.matt's afterschool program is cancelled so he'll be home soon.work is busy busy busy.Cw thanks for supper.

Produce went well this morning. We had 54 people. We got: carrots, apples, lettuce, potatoes, sweet potatoes, little half pint cartons of milk, and I can't remember what else we had. Pastry/Bread truck broke down somewhere, so we didn't get anything from that truck this morning.
Don't think we've had any rain since the wee hours this morning. But it is very cool and breezy. The snow is supposed to be headed this way, so guess late on, I'll be seeing flurries/whatever, whenever I look out the window.
The menu for the rest of the day: Mexican Fiesta.
1. Tacos
2. Burritos
3. Spanish Rice
4. Chimichangas
5. Fajitas
Hope you are all enjoying your afternoon, and keeping comfortable and safe. Take care, all of you, and I'll see you all later.
Bacon, eggs and white toast. A wonderful way to start a Tuesday.
Good Tuesday morning everyone. Temp in the mid 40s, but the rain has left us for now. Supposed to be back in after awhile. Then, later this afternoon or evening, is when the snow is to come in. Streets are "warm", so there won't be any accumulation them, only the grassy areas. That is my kind of snow. But I always remember the Easter in 1971, when the day before, we had temps in the 60s or 70s, and woke up Easter morning to about 6 inches of snow. There was no going to Easter Sunrise services. My nieces and nephews had to have their Easter Egg hunt in the house. So you never know what Mother Nature will bring us, any time of the year.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the warmer/serving bar this morning: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, oatmeal
Everyone have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all this afternoon, after I get through with Tuesday Produce.

Mookie Bruce - trust no one named Chinook
Bruce - trust no one named Chinook
Mookie: Now wait a minute. That is the name of our Siberian Husky. And he does run like a Chinook wind. We trust him very much.
Joe, where is all this mystery weather starting? We have clear, sunny and 48 and nothing around us.
Bruce - trust no one named Chinook or Clipper! They both mean trouble!
CW - there should be a bowl game out there somewhere, yet this year. Should be televised nationally.
Went out around lunch - parked in the sun - and watched a couple of coal trains, a freight train and one ethanol train - ah..... peace and quiet and .......warm!

MookieDo you do windows?
At 2:24 p.m., we have a very cold rain coming down, and a down right good wind blowing also. It is giving me the shivers, and I'm here in our nice, warm house. Current temp is about 48 degrees.
Mookie, maybe you'll have to email me, when you see a good Nebraska game, and hopefully, it'll be televised in our area.
The menu for the rest of the afternoon and tonight:
1. Leftover turkey vegetable soup, w/cornbread
2. Beef vegetable soup w/cornbread
3. Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad
Can't think of anything else that is going on around here. Everyone have a good afternoon, keep dry, if you're getting this rain, and you all take care.
Mookie An Alberta Clipper?
An Alberta Clipper?
Mookie, those are the cold winds that blow from our part of the world down to yours. These were Chinook winds. They start from out in the Pacific, blow over Washington state, lose their moisture as they pass over the Rockies, and then come downhill fast and dry across southern Alberta.
I was up way earlier than normal to hear the news and see about the damage. Fortunately, my part of the city did not receive any serious damage, although I haven't yet been out for a look. South of me, in downtown, there are many streets still closed and littered with debris. One reporter said the side of one large skyscraper looked like the building had been used as a target for a Howitzer practice. There were many windows blown out on many floors.
As far as anyone seems to know, this is the first time the city has ever had to shut down the central core. There has been a tremendous amount of construction in the last 30-35 years which has created new wind tunnels and the resulting vortexes caused never before seen damage.
As far as CP is concerned, their head office building is not on one of the closed off streets, and their mainline ROW through downtown is not near any of the worst hit areas, but there is still much debris about. There were no reports of crossing accidents here or in Lethbridge, or out in the country.
Right now it is 29° and calm. Amazingly, after being so warm during the excitement yesterday, there is now a skiff of snow on the ground that came down after the Chinook left.
Hope everyone has a nice calm day.
Tree: We all knew you would do well. Now you can be our resident engineer, roof fixer, landscaper, firefighter, puter guru, printer, - wow! Do you do windows?
CW : Pick a weekend when they are playing the way they are supposed to.....
Bruce: An Alberta Clipper?
Tom: a hundred years from now and the Husker fans will still be re-living all the games! They never seem to forget!
17 and cold, but going to be sunny and in 40's. Not too shabby for almost December.
Peace be with you. 62 and overcast in Carolina this fine morning. Thanks for breakfast.
The state is still abuzz over the Carolina-Clemson game. It seems that tiger fans are retreating into a defensive mode and trying to explain it as a fluke. Gamecock fans on the other hand are crowing from the rooftops. Come on people, it's just a game and 100 years from now, history will have forgotten it.
I had a fun weekend on the wireless during the contest. We had excellent conditions to Europe in the mornings and to Japan as well as the South Pacific in the afternoons. After such a long dry spell, it is good to see the new solar cycle taking affect.
Everyone have a greart day and stay safe.
Good Monday morning everyone. 42 degrees and rain here in Louisville this morning. Maybe see a high in the low 50s this afternoon, with the rain continuing. We have flash flood watches/warnings out for a lot of the western portion of the state/commonwealth. Bruce, hope the winds have calmed considerably up in your area this morning. Stay inside and keep safe.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the warmer/serving bar this morning: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, or you can have a bowl of cereal or oatmeal. There's also some bagels and bear claws, as usual.
Hope you all have a good morning, keep dry and take care.
....Bruce, that sounds like severe stuff....we wish you safety, and well being.
There's way more excitement than we need around here today. The southwest portion of Alberta, including the cities of Calgary and Lethbridge, have been hit with severe winds Chinook winds. Fortunately it has been warm, but winds were running from 50 to 90 mph.
CP has issued warnings to the media that grade crossings with arms have been rendered inoperable or are damaged, and urge all motorists to use caution. Employees have been called out for flagging duties all across the area. No accidents so far.
I live just north of the downtown area, which has been closed off since 1:05 PM. Winds were about 20 mph at ground level but over 90 mph, according to one report, at the 50 storey level of highrise buildings. Glass has been blown out of one building I used to work in many years ago, and fallen onto a vehicle. No one was injured. I have had one brief power failure here, and everyone is urged to stay indoors to avoid being hit by debris carried by the wind.
It was really bizarre sounding here earlier this afternoon. I live 5 or so miles from the airport, so you hear the jets passing by once in a while and then it is quiet. This afternoon it sounded like there was one airplane suspended over my place for hours on end. The noise has ended now. It is still 43° with a SW 20 mph wind. Everything is expected to calm down by tomorrow.
CW, a bowl of Turkey Vegetable soup will be nice to soothe my nerves now.
