Well, today was the day I went back to the opthamologist. Not a good report, unfortunately. Apparently, I have had a major stroke sometime. So, before she goes any further, she is contacting my GP to request a brain scan to be done on me. Needless to say, I'm very upset. How in the world can a person have a major stroke, and not know or realize what is happening to you?!?!?!?!
Our high got up to 71 today. After I left for my doctor's appointment, Walt went out for a bike ride, to take care of a couple of errands that needed to be done. Prediction for tomorrow: cold, rain, blustery (?) conditions.
For supper tonight:
You have your choice of meat loaf w/all the trimmings, or you can have steak with baked tater, salad, and dinner rolls or Texas toast.

CW, I just wanted to say I am very sorry to hear about your recent medical news. I can understand why you are very upset. It seems the medical community is getting a better handle on strokes all the time, so I hope they have better news for you down the line.
I haven't had a chance to peruse my usual news sources today, so I may drop in again later. For now, I just wanted to express my concern and sympathy.

Paula, it is indeed a puzzle as to how anyone could have a stroke and not be aware of it, unless it came while you were asleep. Is there a plan afoot for physical therapy? When Ricki had a ministroke in Denver a year and a half ago, we did not think of such at all, and I believe now that we should have; she did have therapy after her two last December. You will be in our prayers.

It's a relatively new concept that women's heart attacks present differently than men's - a distinction that may have cost lives in the past as doctors (and others) ignored signs and symptoms because they didn't fit the usual profile (chest and left arm pain, difficulty breathing).
But that difference is now being recognized. Still, it's not a bad idea for folks (especially the ladies) to become aware of how women do present during heart episodes, and not to ignore those symptoms.

Good Thursday morning everyone. Starting off the day with a temp in the 50s. Do not remember what our high is to be today. The predicted rain hasn't made it way into Louisville yet: they're now saying it'll be here around 9:00 this morning.
A very special Thank you! to Bruce, Mookie, Johnny, Quentin and Larry, for your kind words. Even though the eye doctor is going to contact my GP, I am going to call him myself later on this morning (his office doesn't open up until 9:30).
Coffee, oj, oj/tangerine, apple, grape, pineapple juices are all freshly made and ready to go. Breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

A woman brought a very limp parrot into a veterinary hospital. As she lay her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the Vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm so sorry, Polly has passed away." The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure? I mean, you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, shrugged, turned and left the room returning a few moments later with beautiful black Labrador. As the bird's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the dead parrot from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet led the dog out but returned a few moments later with a cat. The cat jumped up and also sniffed delicately at the ex-bird. The cat sat back, shook its head, meowed and ran out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry; but like I said, your parrot is most definitely, 100% certifiably ...dead." He then turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the woman. The parrot's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried. "$150 just to tell me my bird is dead?!" The vet shrugged. "If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would only have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, what did you expect?"

Interesting; she's already had 2 "Cat Scans" from the inside cats, and at least 4 from the "outside" cats, all that's cost so far is "kitty food". "Lab Reports" might be delayed until we find a "Lab" close by. (unless the cartoon strip "Dog Eats Doug" qualifies.)
All kidding aside, neither Sarah or myself have noticed any of the symptoms generally associated with a stroke, and I've been around her for almost 25 years. (and an EMT for a few of those years.)

Larry, thanks for the good laugh: I needed that!! My doctor called me back a little while ago. I told him what was going on, and he hasn't heard from the opthamologist yet. So, when he gets the report from her, he'll call me back and we'll be talking.
Since it is so gloomy and rainy out, here is what I've come up with for tonight:
1. Sloppy joes w/fries and salad
2. Vegetable beef soup w/grilled cheese or PB&J sandwich
3. Cream of Broccoli soup w/anything from #s 1 & 2

Visiting our "Family Restaurant" a bit after noon today for a late lunch also was good for watching trains go by.
We were there perhaps 45 min. and had 4 trains pass in that time...Both east and westbound. {CSX}.
Rain started this afternoon {big Low circulating around us}, and hopefully it will move out by tomorrow. Forecast does have sunshine so they think it will.
In the past--sometimes not all that recently--you've had symptoms and/or sensations that could have been the manifestation of--or a masking of--a stroke. She didn't say how recently she thought this occurred, did she?
We hope the scan (feline or otherwise) leads to a sensible, satisfying, and successful solution.

Good morning all.....very surprised I'm the first one in here...{at this late time}...The sun is shining here. Saw 40 on the instrument earlier.
Believe it's to be a pretty nice seasonal day....Some more leaves down on my east side.....So perhaps tomorrow, we'll get the tractor out and do some mulching....Certainly, not needing to mow yet, but I'm keeping after the leaves, and perhaps we'll keep the situation under control that way....
That way, we'll have the yard look presentable all Winter. Guess neat is the word.
Getting ready to head out to breakfast....and then to the church to replenish envelopes in the pews. Do that each month once or twice. Most people do have the envelopes at home, but we keep them avail. in the pews as well.
No, Carl, she did not indicate to me, if the test showed a recent stroke, or sometime in the past. Guess maybe I'll find that out, when she gets the report to my regular doctor, which she hadn't done as of 5:45 last evening, when my doctor called me. Whenever he gets the results from her and goes over them, he said he would call me back. So, as of now, I'm still in limbo.
Quentin, sorry about you being the first one in this morning. If Walt hadn't awakened me, well after 7, I'd probably still be sleeping.
Our morning temps seem to holding right around 50 degrees, and it is quite breezy outside. Everyone have a good morning (what's left of it) and I'll see you all after awhile, when I'll be posting the menu.
Greetings from the Great White North. We have had our first real snow today. Currently it is 18°F and partly cloudy. There is more snow expected with the low dropping to 14°.
I don't have anything else at the moment.
Well, busy afternoon around the house. Good news is, we hit a high of 60 degrees this afternoon. But there is still a good breeze blowing, but at least it is a semi warm one.
Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way, with all the regular list of fish, and all the regular side dishes and desserts. And, if anyone isn't in the mood for fish, there is leftover meatloaf, just calling to be put between two slices of bread, for a meatloaf sandwich. Hmm, that doesn't sound half bad.
Haven't heard back from my reg. doctor yet. Don't know if I'll be hearing back from him in a little bit, or if it'll be next week sometime.

busy day today.went to Deshler and it was as busy as ever.Q509,q 241 and K 803 had a 3 way meet on the wye tracks.241 and 803 had to wait in south Deshler while the dispatcher could clear q 342 and q 500 and D743(lima local).Also q 010(former 110) and q 170 had to get around a broken rail in sherwood so things were getting backed up.Cw thanks for supper.Tomorrow going to go celebrate Grandpa's birthday. Syracuse train show this weekend. Sadly, it's getting smaller every year. Not sure why, but they're down to one building at the state fairgrounds this year.
My old home weather station died, so I got a new one. Put the anemometer up today - wouldn't you know they want it to face a direction that will make it hard to change the batteries, at least where it's mounted now. May look to change that when I get the new roof up on the garage (material here - just need time and good weather).
Plus that, they say it should be 30' up in the air....
Sheesh.
If anybody is going to be in Syracuse this weekend, stop in at the show and look me up at the railroad's booth...
Good Saturday morning everyone. Very cool, with a temp of 38, 39 degrees this morning, with a little bit of frost. But we should make it up to about 64 degrees this afternoon. Still no word from my doctor. Guess it'll be Monday before I hear back from him.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Saturday brunch is on the warmer bar: bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy, hash browns or fried taters, country fried ham w/red eye gravy, oranges, kiwi, papaya, tangerines, grapes and pineapple slices. Little bit of everything this morning.

Larry, if you really need a place that high to mount the anemometer, bring it to Louisville and mount on the roof of our house. 2 story, gambrel roof; I'm very sure it's about that high at the peak........
(and hopefully our roof won't have to be replaced for a bunch of years, we had that done about 3 years after we moved in.)

Clear blue sky, and as I just peeked out our east window here in the office, I note a jet stream very high. So clear, humidity must be low.
Watched the space station pass over here beginning at 7:41 last evening, and heading generally east from the west. Moves rather fast, and it is bright.
Paula, Walt and Brian, my Facebook has been hacked. Yuck! Look out for bogus messages from "Facebook Security". Oh well. Maybe now I'll start spending more time on the forums again?
